Yeah, sorry I couldn't respond to that one before. :-)

well i be darned .... we now can rejoice, since fast paced additions to already good product are surely fastly coming about off the feedpipe ... it'l be a hectic season of finest upgrades ... I'm sure they'l start with keyboard shortcutze. ... I mean Google Reader rules on that. Intelligent to the extreme. ..Google.com, on the other hand - are we sleeping? .. not even "/" ??.. and that...

Congrats Ben! Totally agree with Jason. Our latest project wouldn't have become feasible without Ben -- I'm just so glad we managed to get a fraction of his time before he left! :)
- Simon
Congratulations, Ben! You're joining an awesome team.
- Anne Bouey
Congrats, you are now a "big company"! ;))))
- K.D.
That's not my picture! They got the picture wrong! In fact, I didn't get the letter of hire either. :( Oh, Hi there, Ben...if that's your real name. ;)

Good luck Ben! With you our preferred service will go more interesting

from fftogo
I think there were a bunch of spam comments made to some 2009-era posts by FF employees. For some reason even after the spam is nuked, the post stays bumped.
- Stephen Mack
Yes, I blocked a spammer that was bumping old posts about FF themes and what not.
- Zulema ⋅ spicy cocoa tart
Well, let's see this as an opportunity to raise a virtual glass to Ben and FriendFeed-that-was!
- Kevin Fox
It probably had something to do with the Tornado 2.2 release. I noticed Ben was the one who posted about the release on HN earlier. Edit: Or it could have just been a spammer. *shrugs*
- Jimminy, CoG of FF
I don't think it had anything to do with the tornado release - a spammer bumped a bunch of Bret's old posts today.
- Ben Darnell
Stephen, very happy to see new features like this, but I think the "death" part is the major users reducing their activity. I'd love to see some support from Facebook in promoting FriendFeed more to encourage those users to go back. Or maybe they don't want to? Regardless, bonus for me! Thanks Benjamin - you're awesome!
- Jesse Stay
Jesse, fair enough but major users always did come and go. Some of the departees who left said they were doing so because there was no new development. Clearly not all development is halted. Last week Paul hinted that FF may receive a major new feature, and characterized his participation as "20% time" -- I'll take that.
- Stephen Mack
I backed down off the all caps. The group "best of" is really useful, love it.
- Stephen Mack
Stephen, I agree - I'd just like some confirmation that Facebook cares about all this so I can know whether to focus my efforts on Facebook or FriendFeed or both.
- Jesse Stay
I noticed the best of on the iPhone the other day, wrote it out on a cake and then ated it.
- Josh Haley
Jesse, I think you should focus where your users are focused. What do SocialToo users want? But if they want Facebook focus, you should still keep an eye on FriendFeed, since the future Facebook will look a lot more like FriendFeed.
- Bruce Lewis
Paul Buchheit said the FB acquisition was attractive because of shared vision/direction. I would be surprised if a lot of that vision wasn't already embodied in this product right here.
- Bruce Lewis
not enough, best of day should be like a stream that can be traced back

Ross and Dan made this video to illustrate the advanced technology we use behind the scenes at FriendFeed. (Ross and Dan, you are amazing - I can't believe how awesome this thing turned out)

How very creative. This is very fluid and cool.
- Louis Gray
OK, not exactly what I was expecting, but very cool.
- Kevin Arth
Anyone have the video somewhere other than Youtube? it's banned here in Turkey and I can't wait until we get home (next month) to watch it!!
- Chris Myles
Bret, this video should be titled: A Love Song for FriendFeed ! Great vid (and music) !
- Ahsan Ali
This is superb. I just showed it to my 5 year old son who enjoys Lego and has already taken some great photos, including one or two of his toys. So now he has the seed of the idea that, in time, he could take multiple stills and put them together to make moving pictures. Thank you very much for posting it and giving me and him that opportunity. Maybe, he might use FriendFeed one day too!
- John W Lewis
I think they need to make a full stop-motion version of the Matrix in legos. Now THAT would be awesome. I wonder what bullet-time looks like in LEGO?
- Bret Taylor
i'd pay to see the stop animation lego matrix, but not the sequels

"Equipment Generously Provided By Casey Muller" - hahaha!! THIS IS AWESOMESAUCE!!! I love the creative energy and vibe in this video... LOTS of work went into that one! Thanks guys!! :)

This morning we changed the format of FriendFeed subscription email messages to include more information about people who subscribe to you. Please let us know if you see any problems, and keep an eye out for more email improvements in the future.
I'm all for improving the format of notifications, but wonder (aloud) if it is such a smart move to include the Approve/Reject link right at the top (unless it only appears in private feeds to which someone has requested access). Right now we have the option of blocking/ rejecting a subscriber at any time but presumably not at the very outset. This may lead to more of a walled gardens' mentality, already very prevalent at FF.
- ianf ⌘
ianf: approve/reject is only for private feeds. Public feeds just have a link to subscribe back :)
- Benjamin Golub
I noticed this one! Such informations about people who subscribe to me on FriendFeed are useful, and makes it easy to quickly get in the conversation. Thanks for the good job!
- Thierry R. Andriamirado
Gmail automatically showed me the images in a subscription email, even though I never told it to (you know how gmail has the 'display images below' option). further, it doesn't give me the option to hide the images. not that I'd want to, but how are you bypassing gmail's security feature to hide the images?
- chrisofspades
Chris, we don't do anything special. I'm not sure how gmail decides what images to show, you'd have to contact them or check the gmail help.
- Casey Muller
Casey, you sure FriendFeed's founders didn't use some of their "we created Gmail" mojo? ;)
- chrisofspades
Chris, the "show images" only applies to external images hosted on other sites. Gmail doesn't show those by default because doing so would allow people to "bug" email. We include the images with the email so that they can be displayed immediately.
- Paul Buchheit
When I first came on to ff today, this is what I saw at the top of the feed. As I leave, it is at the top again. Thus, I both start and end the day smiling.

It looks just like Derrick is about to say "Goo goo ga ga"
- iTad
I'm just gonna go ahead and let this be my embarrassing photo meme entry.

Yes, Mo asked to participate in the Ass Roasting. I wasn't really serious about it until Mo asked. Then I had to make it exist.
- Kamilah Reed (K. Gill)
LMAO, Kamilah so awesome, but you missed Sean's half-stache and goatee. Those would have made it even more awesome.
- Jimminy, CoG of FF
aw, shoot. I checked, but I wasn't sure about the status of his facial hair.
- Kamilah Reed (K. Gill)
This is THE. BEST. THING. ON. THE. INTERNET. EVER. *weeps for joy*
- MoTO Bott
I'm tempted to lie about it just to see what I'd look like in one of your illustrations
- chrisofspades
oh, though sketch is good, ever had an exhibition?
- testbeta
I always knew it. The first time I saw Mo Kargas on FF, I knew he could roast asses with his eyes.
- Joshua
Thanks, everyone :) I don't know that I can sell the original sketchbook, it's really my personal journal. As I say from time to time, though, my goal is to do some larger drawings and paintings, and eventually I hope to sell those, I just need, like, 48 hours in a day to get everything done... it's going to happen somehow, soon. I have had some of my work exhibited at various times,...

- Kamilah Reed (K. Gill)
Kamilah, you're here! You should subscribe to me. :)
- EricaJoy
What happens if I subscribe to you, Erica? Is something in particular happening over on your feed?
- Kamilah Reed (K. Gill)
Nothing interesting happening on my feed but I bet $100 I could make your day. :)
- EricaJoy
By the way Kamilah? I want the MoBot on a t-shirt.... Pleeeaaaasssseeee???
- MoTO Bott
Yes, giant robots are made of win. I dunno, Barry... last time I tried to make a t-shirt, people got all excited but no-one bought it (DYSP!). I might just make a design but not bother to try setting up a Spreadshirt (or whichever one it was that I used) for it. I'll have to see.
- Kamilah Reed (K. Gill)
I could do that somehow, I guess. I've taken payments through PayPal before. I wonder what pose the MoBot should be in? Have some source material I could work from?
- Kamilah Reed (K. Gill)
If you use the FriendFeed Facebook application make sure you've configured it properly. We are switching to a new method of publishing in the not too distant future. If you see this message at http://apps.facebook.com/friendf... just click on the link to provide the proper permissions.
I disabled Friendfeed wallposts a while ago to avoid duplicate aggregate streaming there.

Orpheus' music was so powerful that no one could resist it—not even the fairest maiden. He chose the lovely Eurydice to be his wife. But their joy was brief. As Eurydice walked through a meadow shortly after their wedding, a poisonous snake bit her. She died, leaving Orpheus alone and deeply saddened. Overcome by grief, he decided to travel to the land of the dead to get her.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in...

So it's since Tuesday huh? The ultimate thread. How will the thread die then? We must have a limit for that, let's say 24h without one comment.
- Zu from AOD
As a side note, I do have to applaud the endurance and pettiness of those of us on FriendFeed. No one on Facebook gave this status update a second look!
- Mike Nayyar
We pride ourselves in our pettiness and obsessiveness. Um, wait.
- Tinfoil 2.0
Remember. It's not whole Scoble likes. It's who likes Scoble.
- Akiva
According to FriendFeed, that's everyone. And some Twitter marketers and SEO experts.
- Mike Nayyar
Mike will get in the last word. Eventually. Everyone else is an idiot for playing his little game. Me included. :-)
- Robert Scoble
I'm not actually playing. Or, if I am, I'm playing to lose.
- Akiva
HAHA! You see that? Robert Scoble acknowledges I will eventually win! HAHA! FINALLY! For once in my life, I win! :) :) :) :) Unless Logical shows up...
- Mike Nayyar
Only mostly dead. There's a big difference between mostly dead and all dead. Mostly dead is slightly alive. With all dead, well, with all dead there's usually only one thing you can do.
- Tinfoil 2.0
We're testing the limit on the number of comments.
- DGentry
Nah, the FFundercats live chat pushed that one way over the top. We are, however, testing the limits oh how sick people are getting of setting my face.
- Mike Nayyar
This thread has a lot of comments, that must mean Mike is an expert of some kind...or maybe an A-Lister. Must stalk^H^H^H^H^Hinvestigate him...
- Rah-PM 2012
Olympus too? Good thing Logical doesn't know any Japanese mythological figures.
- Mike Nayyar
All right, if you're going to play that way, Raijin AND Ajisukitakahikone are BOTH mad at you. And Raijin was especially unhappy because you interrupted his NOMmage of children's bellybuttons.
- Tinfoil 2.0
Dude, my best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw Raijin put down the platter.
- Tinfoil 2.0
We'd be content, of course, if you (Mike) issued a public retraction of the assertion in your post, followed by allowing someone else to post the last comment in the thread ;-)

805 comments!! I'm afraid to click on the more link....
- Jeff P. Henderson
Nicholas, as long as it's not Mike, it's irrelevant.
- Tinfoil 2.0
I'm sad that Logical saw this Facebook status.
- Mike Nayyar
You know at some point, expanding this comment will really put a strain on mortal browsers. It already has a 3 second pause to expand it.
- Mark Philpot
I wonder if at some point we will hit a soft limit and FF won't let it keep going. That or they look at this as a great high-bounds test case for the system.
- Sparky, lurking
Great experiment there, I'm somewhat scared opening the thread here. Funny thing, Even the explosion of words spawned through this, making it a wordle madness. http://www.wordle.net/gallery...
- Zu from AOD
I'm scared to expand the comment thread :)

There are few computers with the processing power capable of handling the comments in this thread. Except for, you know, quantum computers.

If anyone gets these emails in their gmail and got sick and tired of them like me, just press 'm' to mute the conversation (if you have keyboard shortcuts enabled) (haha i got the last word)
- Daniel Morgan
No you just don't know I posted this.
- John D Reasor
cant the person that started this block the comments now? and thereby win.
- Morgan
If you can get buddy buddy with mike and figure out his schedule, you can prevent him from stopping the comments because you'll always be able to get the last word in. We must prevail for great justice!
- Jonathan Hardesty
That would be cheating, and he knows it :)
- Tinfoil 2.0
That's how the FriendFeed Mob rolls. :-D
- Steven Perez
from IM
you didn't disable the comments yet? you could comment and then do it and then you really would get the last word. but then again, that's cheating. and cheaters never prosper.
- Trish Haley
You're not supposed to make sense of it. It exits only as an opaque, monolithic data structure that is constantly being updated and evolving. ;)
- Tyson Key
Attempting to parse it in a manner that is not approved by FriendFeed, Inc may result in disruption of the space-time continuum, and a series of Bad Things(R) occurring.

this thread could go away right now. but you people keep posting comments...wait....didn't I just do the same thing? OK, nevermind. Long live this Thread!!!!

Yeah, we should all totally stop bumping this post.

I'm surprised Friendfeed can still expand this thread.

OMG, doesn't even want to image what would happen if Nayyar tried to use #fftop20. Actually I kind of do, but I bet it would be slow. Scores would be off the charts though.
- Jimminy, CoG of FF
Probably still under 9000, people should try harder.
- Jimminy, CoG of FF
Indeed, I do. I was so jealous when someone posted from the west coast about eating crepes filled with Nutella, whipped cream and strawberries, but there was nowhere I could go for that. I was in Cincinnati yesterday and took advantage of Jungle Jim's proximity to pick up some things I can't find in town, and when I saw crepes (which I will NOT make myself), I nabbed 'em! Now I need the other three ingredients.

Nope. Neither the chocolate nor the hazelnut flavor seems to pop out to me, it just tastes sweet. I'd rather have the fresh ground chocolate peanut butter from Whole Foods.

- Apostocosì (Vulvia)
Hi :) I'll write recipes with nutella a.s.a.p :P
- SanalMutfak (M)
No, it's disgusting. The worst such hazelnut cream produced, sticky, oversweet and at the same time flavorless. There are bunches of much better similar creams around, not necessarly hugely more costly: Novi cream is hugely better and still in the same price range!
- Alice Twain
Alice come on... a little spoon of Nutella could make you less ... :P
- Eta
use translate button keiko :) (I know It doesn't perfect)
- SanalMutfak (M)
@Eta, nutella is disgusting. not hazelnut creams. The point is that nutella has next to no hazelnut in, that's part of what makes it so bad. Again, try some better hazelnut creams, stuff that does not feel like sugary glue in your mouth but rather is silky with a distinct taste of toasted hazelnut. You will taste the difference.
- Alice Twain
In Italian, "Slurp" is an onomatopoeia, i.e. this word means that someone is licking him/her own lips while thinking about the goodness of a food.

even a flat cat... faxes just can't handle the hair. You'd have to shave the cat first, else the hair will burn and stick to the drum... a mess! (I am extrapolating from transparencies, mind, i don't have access to a cat to test)

- Simon Wicks
Ah right. Yeah. There is always a little video between acts as it showcases that country whilst the stage is being setup quickly for the next act

Is this what they call re-inventing the wheel? Apart from the 'front' (steer) wheel being at the back, this design/concept has been a round for a very long time.
- Kevin J Hatton
Kevin, the Terratrike, a tadpole-type (the other one is "delta") tricycle steers in the front (Ackerman steering), not in the back, only Leo hasn't figured out yet how to adjust it properly and screw down the handlebars. This model is too small for him, as he'll soon be bound to discover, but there are other brands on the market, of bigger size and far better quality.
- ianf ⌘
Thanks for the info ianf⌘, it is good to know that this wasn't truly representative of this new design.
- Kevin J Hatton
Well, Leo's mouth-agape reaction was typical, representative of the initial awe one feels while riding a recumbent trike. It's like being in the fairground "radio cars" of the fifties. But he's quite mistaken that he is "very low to the ground." This is average height for such trikes, with eyes on the same level as in fast convertibles; there are competition trikes with 20 degree seat...

- ianf ⌘
It is NOT too small for him and in fact was custom sized for him from the factory. He rides it daily and loves it.
- Jeff Yonker
jnman, google's translation service has it's limitations. I don't know what is different about that particular comment, though. This is anecdotal, but I would roughly estimate that 20% of the posts I've tried google translate responds with at least some null translation results.
- Micah
Thank you Micah! Josh just showed me how to do it. I didn't know you had to open an individual post by clicking the time. I'm tech challenged. :)
- Trish Haley
Trish, thank you for the honesty. Ahhhh, _documentation_ so often an afterthought *scolds self*. Actually, if someone wants to pitch in help make a tutorial, please let me know. I'm working on a full set of pre-loaded configurations for each support translation language ~ maybe it will get released tonight (hard not to be in all the great conversations, though - that's the rub :D
- Micah
Thanks, chrisofspades. I've been meaning to ask how the activity on ffThreadKiller is lately? If ya-all haven't checked it out yet head over to http://friendfeed.com/friendf...
- Micah
Micah - tried out the bookmarklet on safari :))) Awesome. interesting how much better the translation is that the google.com/translate .(google.com version doesn't seem to do transliterated text. - the version your script accesses is getting a fair amount of it.)
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
activity waned. and I've been waffling on some back-end decisions that's preventing me from updating it.
- chrisofspades
from email
Rob, cool. That's an interesting comparison.
- Micah
chrisofspades, yeah, I guess for a lot of people the statistic is interesting initially, but doesn't have legs. Have you considered expanding what statistics it gathers? You've already worked out how it spiders, what other calculations are feasible? I've seen a lot of requests for date range searching. Maybe some slice of data related to the timestamp.
- Micah
date range searching would be sweet chrisofspades! if there's anything I can do to help please let me know! test maybe?

The swap box has arrived at it's first destination; moi! Thanks for getting this put together and for the nice items Tina. I will post more thoughts in a little bit (and I'll update the map)
Just to let folks know I kept 4 things from the box (hope that isn't too greedy): 1. Mini Moon Pie; I've seen these before but never had one. 1. GooGoo cluster: Never heard of them but it sounds good. 1. Magnetic bookmark; I love to read so can't go wrong with a bookmark. 1. postcard - a great photo. My wife and I are always looking for neat cities to visit and now Greenville will be in our queue.
- Bill Rawlinson
GooGoo clusters and MoonPies are both about as southern as it gets (my vote goes to GooGoo clusters, BTW). When/if you come visit, make sure to let me know: every FFer in town gets beer or BBQ my treat =)
- FFing Enigma
I've seen moonpies in the store here but never bought one before so this was a good excuse to finally break down and try one (my step mother makes really good homemade ones) I am trying to resit eating the GooGoo cluster right away so that I can stretch out my enjoyment of the swap's stage here as long as possible. I'll post again when I've added some stuff and then again when i've shipped.
- Bill Rawlinson
Did you eat your GooGoo cluster yet?!?
- FFing Enigma
No I'm going to eat the GooGoo cluster tomorrow. My wife and I have identified a few things we want to gather to put in the box and she is stepping up and going to drive around looking for them tomorrow! They aren't edible though but hopefully someone in the chain will enjoy them :O)
- Bill Rawlinson
Ok - I ate my GooGoo cluster. It seemed a lot like a round BabyRuth bar but a bit chewier. I think I'll get another to put in the box so someone else down the line can give them a try too. It turns out you can buy them here. I am thinking of putting a "Flat Stanley" in the box and asking everyone to take a photo of Stanley somewhere special in their town. Then, eventually, when I make it back through the alternate queue, Stanley will arrive back to me with a full album of photos accompanying him :O)
- Bill Rawlinson
What a cool idea about Flat Stanley! :) I'd take a picture of him somewhere in Chicago, perhaps visiting the Cloud Gate at Millennium Park.
- Cheryl Jones
cool! thanks for opting in Cheryl.. I hope to have the package out of my hands within the next two days and on its way to Janet in PA...
- Bill Rawlinson
Looking forward to the next stop and Flat Stanley will be photographed doing something 'tourist' for my area. I have my items and anxious to get the package 'across the pond'. Did anyone get a flickr.com site created for the photo uploads? My dog did get into one of the items I was going to send. Naughty dog!
- Janet-The Bottley Crue
I finally started to use the bookmark I pulled out of the box yesterday. More than 1.5 years after getting it. Thanks for the bookmark Tina.
- Bill Rawlinson
You're welcome Bill! I took a picture with another friend's Flat Stanley this Saturday and that reminded me that our FS has been wandering for almost two years. The box should be on it's way to Aden by now though, we're almost there!
- FFing Enigma
I just found my bookmark and couldn't remember where or why I had it! Yeah.
- Janet-The Bottley Crue
It was easier to eat without sauce, but we had gravy on it. It wasn't bad.
- Trish Haley
I had some on rice with brown gravy. Damn if it wasn't tasty.
- Josh Haley
And yes, Pea... definitely All-American style is best.
- Trish Haley
i would break the spaghetti into shorter lengths, i'm thinking it would work out better when it came time to eat. also, less pasta and more sausage that way.
- Joe The Sausage
I put cut up hog dogs in my macaroni and cheese all the time. This wouldn't be that much different, I guess, although with no sauce at all? Not sure.
- Jandy
This was my first time eating hot dogs and pasta. I've never had them in macaroni and cheese... I think a cheese sauce would go great, Jandy.
- Trish Haley
I MADE THESE THE OTHER DAY!!!! And yes, they are just as awesome and as fun as it looks. I got cheeky and put cheese on top, too. Om nom nom!
- Will Higgins™
Sarah wants to know how your faces got on your minifigs. Did you draw them on? Or did they come like that? She wants to know if Lego made ffundercat minifigs for you.
- Trish Haley
Several have requested that we could star/fav posts please? We could then have a starred/faved post feed and could be used for a kinda read it later or track the posts.
well, isn't that was "Like" is for?
- Nathan Chase
Nathan, gosh no I use "Like" for all sorts of things, to share, to bump, to say I like...
- Kol Tregaskes
And I think the starred posts should be private feeds, or there would be no functional distinction between the two.
- Ahsan Ali
Ahsan, I'm not worried about it being public or private myself. :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
Kol what I mean is, if they're both public, what's the difference between a Like and a Star ? You can un-like stuff, too .. so the only difference is their names ?
- Ahsan Ali
Ahsan, I use like for all sorts of things like I say above. But if I can star something for tracking and for reading later that would be useful.
- Kol Tregaskes
my solution to this problem was to create a private Friendfeed room and reshare items to it that I wanted to look at later. But resharing seems to have vanished from the beta for now.
- Nathan Rein
Nathan, yeah that sounds like a good idea. Reshares are coming soon to the beta.
- Kol Tregaskes
A like is functional in terms of having an impact on ranking of posts ( for want of a better term). A watch should have no effect.
- Roberto Bonini
@Kol, well I guess the issue is there are power users, like some of us - and then there are people who don't get FriendFeed in the first place. To give them the ability to like, star, hide, comment - it's just too many things that involve comprehension and explanation as to why they should do any of it... it's a fine line for FriendFeed - meeting the needs of information junkies AND people that just share with their close friends and family
- Nathan Chase
Nathan, Roberto pointed out that resharing wipes out the comments are it's only a link to the original so you couldn't follow the comments. I guess the currently solution would be selective with your likes.
- Kol Tregaskes
I always use Like becuase I, wait for it, Like the post.
- Roberto Bonini
Earl, people use "like" for all sorts of reasons. I have multiple purposes for likes (for one it shares it to the people that subscribe to me), to have a way to fave a select few to track would be an interesting addition.
- Kol Tregaskes
Roberto, "like" are more features than that, of course (see my comment just above here). :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
You could expand this idea to be able to configure multiple "switches". E.g. switches for "like"/"star"/"track"... This can function as a kind of tagging.
- Meryn Stol
yeah, my solution is only a partial solution - it's a way of bookmarking posts I like, but you'd still have to click through for each one to follow the discussion. Not perfect.
- Nathan Rein
I've been looking into an RSS feed for individual entries. Did there used to be that or a way to do it?
- Araceli
you could potentially do what Gmail does with their "multiple stars" add-on in Labs - where you click the star, and it becomes a checkmark - click again it becomes an exclamation point, etc. - the drawback being that you'd have to choose ONE option ultimately... you're either saving it, liking it, or neither
- Nathan Chase
..................... hmmm... interesting Mo......

It would be stylized of course. I think it represents an intersection of your erm..interests. I suppose the minifig could also be holding a lightsaber
- Mo Kargas
I'm sorry but this is unbelievable:) I'll give credit to the artist upon more convincing proof! The photogenic look of the tiger and lion really helps the artist's case though:)
- Roney Smith
I'm with Roney... I find this hard to believe... or maybe I'm just jealous that I can't even get stick people right!
- Jasmin Smith
I'm really happy everyone liked these. They're my most liked entry to date, Thanks! There also seems to be some question about whether these are actually Pencil Drawings.I can assure you that they are. When I get home, I should have the links. I have more drawings, too.
- Michael Fidler
from fftogo
Thanks Enrique, I'll post some more soon. They are a little more obvious than these ones. As Luke points out; without being able to look closely it's impossible to tell. He's right; but up close it's more obvious. I'll upload the originals to Picasa later, and then you'll be able to zoom in with any photo viewer and see for yourselves. I can't believe how many people liked these. A few people have reposted them already. Thanks!
- Michael Fidler
Absolutely awesome, Michael. You are extremely talented. Everyone should repost these pix and help to make you famous. You should be doing this full time - you obviously have some passion for this. Bravo.
- Chris Loft
These are really beautiful, Michael. Do you sell them?
- Shannon Jiménez
Chris, I would love to say they're mine, but it's not true. I've had them for a while, but I'll find the artists names. It will just require a little backtracking. Besides, they deserve the credit; all I did was find them:-)
- Michael Fidler
Cut the bullshit! :) Photos are very good.
- Burçak Çubukçu
I draw alot in pencil, but they are amazing, the best for me is the girl, that is the most photo-like one. :o)
- Rob Sellen :o)
I agree Rob, the girl is amazing. My favorite by far! Wait until you see it close up! It's really had to tell, even up close!
- Michael Fidler
Burçak Çubukçu If these were photographs, they would be very good. As Pencil Drawings,(which they are), they're amazing.
- Michael Fidler
@Burçak Çubukçu I can't tell if your serious now or just kidding around. I hope your just having fun! If you are serious, I've never given you a reason to question my integrity, nor do I ever intend to. However, the second set is up now, so judge them for yourself, but don't judge me! http://ff.im/1BJh5 BTW, I messed up and reposted the shot of the women again. Oh well. Hope you like them:-)
- Michael Fidler
@Michael: try deviantART, not Picasa, to submit your artworks
- LouCypher
LouCypher, I know it well, but I don't see why I would want to do that. I hope everyone knows by now that they're not mine? I'm sorry, but I can't say it any clearer than that.
- Michael Fidler
nah, i don't believe it is done in pencil. i am sure it is photoshopped :)
- hasin hayder
I'm finding this both interesting and humorous at the same time. There's a separate message board where this post is being discussed and it has another forty comments on it already. I think its great how this has created some lively discussion, considering that when I posted this I was doubtful if anyone would even like it. When I went to sleep last night there was only had 3 or 4 likes...

Very interesting. I would like to see them up close and in person...just to make sure. Bill said it's real and possible. Your 2nd set of picts look like pencil. Nice work in finding these!
- LaFern Cusack
Kol, I can't thank you enough! Kol found another post which helps to prove that these are done in pencil. I had my doubts about a few of them because I collected them from several different sites over time, but the site Kol found has done a great job pulling together an impressive collection of these drawings and more. Take a look - http://www.flickzzz.com/2009...
- Michael Fidler
Actually there are more than what this site shows. There's an entire set with the cats(little cats), which I have, and there's a new portrait set.
- Michael Fidler
Found your post here, Michael. :-) I tried my best to find the artists.
- Kol Tregaskes
Amazing and very very very good.... Very impressive ...
- Linda Zeek-Bobinski
Yeah we know, thanks though, James. :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
Excellent pictures - how long did it take you to scan the photographs into Photoshop and then edit them? The only pencil that has come into contact with these "drawings" is the Photoshop pencil. A tip - stop trying to fool people into thinking you are a "real" artist, because all you are doing is cheapening proper artist's works whom have spent hours creating real pictures as opposed to a few minutes on a graphics editing package.
- The Wimp
A bell does ring here. And I am remembering why I was so attracted to the tiger...and the lion for that matter. These are exact replicas of prints I had in our bedroom when I lived in Dallas. I had bought the prints (in color) at a department store,
- Melanie Reed
Actually, I have learned quite a bit about these drawing since I made this post. Not only have I discovered all of the artists, but I've learned more about how they are created. They are always copied from a photograph or painting, but usually a photograph. It is extremely time consuming and detail orientated work. There are many other artists besides the ones featured here who practice...

- Michael Fidler
Most of them have portfolio's on deviantart.com and their work is truly amazing even if they are copies of other artists work. I suppose with this level of detail, they have to start with something. Nevertheless, I'm still in awe of their talent. Melanie, the animal prints you refer to are from a very well renowned photographer. The originals are B&W I'll look it up later but I do have...

Has anyone ever corrected the record and pointed out, with the exception of the Charlize Theron drawing, that these are indeed photos by Alexander Von Reiswitz?
- erik weisz
Erik, thank you for bringing this up again, but I think I already mentioned something about this in my prior comment. However, since it appears that you only signed up to friendfeed to leave a single comment, (ok, why?) I will try to summarize what I wrote previously. In brief, I learned after doing a little research that all photo-realistic drawings like the ones that I shared here,...

I can assure you that what are claimed to be drawings of animals, in your post here, are photos. I used a website to that allows you to do an comparison of the Von Reiswitz photos and the images you have posted here. There are no differences. Every hair matches up. As a pencil artist myself I can tell you that it's pretty much impossible to get that kind of accuracy and have it look...

If you have any questions regarding friendfeed, please feel free to ask and I will do my best to answer them. - Iphigenie
I'm amazed that people are still posting these photographs of animals and calling them pencil drawings. This is at least the third case I can remember (and there are probably more) of this happening. The myth about them being drawings was debunked long ago. It's also funny that whenever they get posted the person posting them doesn't make it clear that they aren't the artist, exactly as you have done.
- canadianmaple09
@canadianmaple09 I posted these back in March, 2009 when I was beginning to use FF regularly. I ran them through TinEye hoping to find their source, but it returned no results. When I ran through again yesterday, TinEye returned over four pages of results. If I had it to do over again, would I? Yes
- Michael Fidler
The people you refer do don't join "just to slam" someone, they are concerned members of the online art community that want to see real art appreciated and fake art or photos being passed off as drawings revealed for what they really are. Artists such as Brian Duey, Armin Mersmann, Paul Lung, Zindy Nielsen, and many others do not receive the appreciation they deserve because of scams like this.
- canadianmaple09
canadianmaple09, the worthiness of your motives notwithstanding (and they are worthy, definitely) you could definitely have approached Michael completely differently by say, giving him the benefit of the doubt rather than attacking in a highly accusatory tone.
- Chieze Okoye
When you've seen these same pictures posted multiple times by people that just find them on the internet and claim they are pencil drawings, when it has already been established on multiple occasions that they are not, the "benefit of the doubt" approach seems a little too generous. People post these images and claim they're drawings to get views for their own site or blog or page or whatever it is they post it on. It's wrong and it needs to be stopped.
- canadianmaple09
I can understand that, but you should also keep in mind that everyone is not as well-versed in the issue as you are. All I'm saying is that you would probably be more effective in this case if you weren't setting this up as a us-vs.-them, "must destroy with the validity my argument!" attitude when talking to a guy who's been actively having a discussion on the issue in what seems to me (having been around when he first posted the images and the follow up thread and what not) to be good faith.
- Chieze Okoye
Look at his first comment here. People clearly thought he drew them. He doesn't set the record straight. He also claims that they "are actually pencil drawings" and that "I have more drawings too." Later he claims that you need to look at them closer to see they are drawings and that he will "post the originals". Once again, this makes it sound like they are his. This follows the same...

Greg and Chieze, thanks for your support. I really appreciate it. @canadianmaoles09, for what it’s worth, I share your concerns about giving proper attribution when sharing also. However, I admit that I'm more conscious of it now than I was at the time of this post. Nevertheless, I have never taken credit for anybody's work here other than my own!
- Michael Fidler
BTW, I didn't realize it before, but I just noticed that you're new here too. I hope you like it so far and spend more time here. IMO, friendfeed is still the best thing around!
- Michael Fidler
I would probably qualify as an image analysis expert, but there's no way to prove that online. One thing we can do is look at color. Even though the images are black and white, they're actually RGB images, meaning they contain cyan magenta and yellow. If you look at the image of the rhino you have posted then look at the photo of the rhino at the photographer's site you can see they both...

friendfeedCommentAnchor [v0.1.0] - http://wittman.org/project... - A user script, a bookmarklet and an alternative configuration userscript (has autoCommentAnchor turned ON). To add a permalink to each comment. The hyperlinked text default is "#" (you can change it in the Configuration section to "permalink", "linky", etc in the user script). Works in single post and stream modes. Tested on Firefox and Safari.
- Micah
Special Note ~ Post image: NOT A HASH TAG :)
- Micah
I started the group ffhacks to house a concise listing of user scripts: http://friendfeed.com/ffhacks . If you have a script that works on the current version of FriendFeed, and you're its author, write a comment on http://friendfeed.com/ffhacks... with the link and I'll share the original friendfeed post to the group.
- Micah
Does it only work to other users with the script enabled?
- Andrew Trinh
The anchor is the comment <div> container id which has been there all along; there simply has not been a user interface to conveniently access it. So yes, a URL with the anchor will work for anyone regardless of script usage (tested in Firefox & Safari).
- Micah
ianf, yep. I try anyway. I remember one or two conversations you had anchors - I've wanted access them for a while too. Cheers!
- Micah
#hashanchors should have been there by default, so that you could spend your time on more creative things rather than fixing FF. In fact, absence of this key element of hypertext, granular addressability, tells me that FFeeders really do not care for comments - they're ffodder to the OPs, which are the only ones that rank anything in the hierarchy of submissions around here. I don't...

All you have to do is take some photos – which you never delete from your camera – so when someone finds your camera at the bottom of the gorilla pit they are able to locate you and return the lost property to its rightful owner. http://www.andrewmcdonald.net.au/a-picto...
I like how everything is clear and readable except the email address.
- Alex Scrivener
LOL That's funny, but yeah...what's with the email address being so small?
- Anika
At any rate, I had a video I made with all my info on it. I accidentally took it off my chip, but I'm positive I copied it to my camera. Unfortunately, I don't know how to access my camera's memory and the cord has been lost. One of these days, I'll RTFM. =)
- Anika
The other pics build empathy, encouraging a border-line thief to return the camera. Otherwise you may as well stick a label on the case and be done with it.
- Alex Scrivener
Does anyone else want to make out with this guy for being SO DAMN AWESOME? Srsly, total panty-dropper this one was.
- Hookuh Tinypants
wow, this is very close to being the most popular thing I have ever posted to Friendfeed. Just goes to show, um, something. Always use pictures?
- Alex Scrivener
Yes, Always use pictures! For one thing, I might sketch your stuff one day! Also yes, it helps your posts stand out.
- Kamilah Reed (K. Gill)
I'm the opposite. I tend to ignore posts with photos (unless the post itself is just a photo). Why? The image usually detracts from the text and people spend time talking about the picture and making it clear they didn't bother to read the text or link.
- Anika
=/ (not about the original post. I already expressed how much I love it)
- Kamilah Reed (K. Gill)
Or you could just put an address sticker on the camera...
- Lix
No, the pictures try to build an emotional connection with the finder. It helps convince a not-so-honest person to return the camera rather than just keep it. It won't stop a real thief, but it could tip the odds in his favor. A sticker can't do that.
- Alex Scrivener
There should be a place in your camera for email address, like cell phones have "Home" so when you lose it, someone can call you. Hmmmm.
- anna sauce
I wouldn't ever think to go through pics, but if I found a lost cam (or phone or whatever) with an address clearly visible on it, I'd pop it in the mail, or call/email someone, no problem. Same holds true for some lost and found places. They might call you if there's easy contact info, but I don't see them taking the time to flip through photos to figure out how. Maybe do both?
- Lix
I was putting a README.txt file on my USB sticks with contact info if it got lost. This is way better! Now take this board with your contact info.... smile, no! put a sad face.... and you're done!
- Nenad Nikolic
This is now far and away the most popular thing I have ever posted. Even got a FFundercats Best of the Week!
- Alex Scrivener
Reserved an iPhone 4 to pick it up in store? Good luck actually getting it since Apple have said they may sell your phone before you've even managed to get to the store!
I am! But it's all still a bit confusing. I *think* you keep your current plan. mins and texts etc. Best bet is call someone and ask where you stand. I called them up after my 18mo was up and downgraded my contract to a simplicity £20 a month one. So i'm screwed. As i currently get a better deal than on the £35 a month one, but as it's only a monthly contract they can change anytime and my next month will be under the new plans.

Thanks, Simon. I'm currently on T-Mobile and looking to move to another operator. It was going to be O2 but not so sure now. Also HTC Desire is becoming available from most providers now.
