"Electronic Arts has recently launched The Sims FreePlay in the App Store. The application, which is a universal app and is free to download, allows fans of The Sims to interact with their own virtual friends, build houses, care for pets and even grow gardens all for free."
- Victor Ganata
I like the goals, but I wish it did a better job of explaining. I haven't been able to play Sims since the first week Sims3 came out. Some of this stuff is new to me.
- Anika
My sister and I have been playing the Sims game on Facebook. It made us both nostalgic for the PC game. Then today I got a call from her. Target has Sims 3 on sale for $20. That was just fate....so I bought it....
"The last weekend was busy and no matter how much I wanted to check out all the links about The Sims 3 Pets (along with doing updates for S4S, too), I couldn’t bring myself to do so. But here we come! Here’s all what I’ve been able to compile so long. Hope you’re getting excited for Pets as much as I do. I’ve never been too much into Pets (I liked them, but they were really just okay for me). But now I’m so excited! The pets look cuter than ever, don’t you think?"

"here will be a limited edition for PC/Mac which will include a new lot (an exclusive pet store venue). The Xbox 360 and PS3 versions will get new breeds. Cats, dogs and horses are the main species. There will also be lizards, turtles, snakes, and birds to collect. No new neighborhood confimed yet. There will be new lots, though: Dog Park, Cat Jungle, Horse Ranch (Equestrian Center) and...

That could be a lot of fun. Wish games weren't so hard on my RSI.
- Spidra Webster
I used up a gift card on this thing. I'm not regretting it. I like the quests. It is a different way to play. Even though your sim gets married, the spouse doesn't become a playable character. Neither do any children you might have. When they go in buildings, it is like playing with a dollhouse. You really only get to play facing in. You can't zoom around the house.
- Yolanda
Oh yeah, the graphics are kinda disappointing. No where near as pretty as 3.
- Yolanda
Wise choice, Michelle. I'd wait for that price to come down.
- Yolanda
I actually think the graphics are more detailed than Sims 3. The verisimilitude may make it unpretty. Everyone has that grimy I-don't-take-a-bath-except-for-special-occasions look. I can almost smell it. :D
- Victor Ganata
Perhaps it is just my machine or the settings then. Have you played a sim with the glutton character flaw? They are hungry ALL the dang time!
- Yolanda
I'm waiting for reviews. I'm highly dubious of this expansion.
- Akiva
It isn't an expansion, Akiva. It is a completely separate game.
- Yolanda
"Electronic Arts keeps cranking out the expansion packs for its hit people sim game The Sims 3. Today the publisher announced that the latest such addition to the game, The Sims 3 Generations, will be released sometime this spring. This expansion pack goes all over the age map as players will be able to have their sims take ballet classes as kids, go to parties as teenagers and even deal with rumors of marital infedelity as middle aged adults. One new feature is an in-game camera which can be used to take snapshots of the game world. Those shots can then be uploaded to your Facebook address for all to see."

I thought there was always an in-game camera? I remember using one to take screen shots back in the original Sims. Or are they talking about one your Sim can actually hold up? Cuz that's kind of silly.
- Hookuh Tinypants
There has always been an in-game camera, as far back as Sims 2, if I recall. I've used it a few times to record video of my sims doing stupid things. :)
- Jonathan Hardesty
There is an in game camera so I'm not sure what they mean.
- Michelle M
And as far as one you can hold up, they added a photography hobby in one of the expansion packs. So they can already take pictures.
- Michelle M
Don't even have the Sims 3 yet. At this point, I may as well wait for the Sims 4 :)
- Roberto Bonini
I don't enjoy Sims 3 much compared to Sims 1 or 2. Dunno why. I played it for about a week and then uninstalled it and sold it on eBay.
- Hookuh Tinypants
Amanda, I don't either. I think the UI was really confusing to me and I felt like it was more cartoonish in design and less open-ended. What I used to love was modding the hell out of the game and that community just hadn't built up enough for me. My family has a long history with the Sims (my little sister went to the first Sims 1 expansion release party in SF when she was like eight) and I don't even have the latest expansion for 3. I miss the days when Maxis was independent of EA.
- joey
EA's execution leaves a lot to be desired. There are tons of bugs--especially memory leaks--from the base game that never got fixed, and each xpac seems to introduce even more bugs. I can't even play without having tons of mods that were created practically for the sole purpose of suppressing several game breaking bugs. That said, I'm probably still going to get this xpac--at least once all the mods get updated for it.
- Victor Ganata
Oh, Victor, exactly. I can't leave it open when I AFK at all because the memory leaks are RIDICULOUS. And yes, I'll probably get myself updated, too. What mods do you have?
- joey
Oh I miss all the good modding. I had a Borg mod that I loved back in Sims 1. I didn't mod as much with Sims 2. My brothers did though. Only one of them has stuck with Sims 3. The other one was like me, totally turned off by it. I sold his copy on eBay too. LOL I also got tired of the gajillion xpacs, especially when, like Vic says, they couldn't even be bothered to fix the obvious issues with the base game.
- Hookuh Tinypants
Joey, I have almost all these mods installed: http://www.the-isz.com/nraas... -- but without the Overwatch mod, I probably would've had to abandon this game a long time ago
- Victor Ganata
Heh. The Grim stopped by to kill the mother of the guy in the pic. Then, he hung out just long enough for the wife to go into labor. Even the Grim freaks when it is baby time.
Haha, that's awesome! What are the chances of that happening?
- Michelle M
The thought bubbles over the wife were of the lady who had just died. She standing there huffing and puffing and mourning and giving birth. O__o
- Yolanda
This has to beat Yolanda's example http://friendfeed.com/yolanda... of the worst Sims video ever. "TOO YOUNG FOR THIS(episode1 head over heals)teen pregnancy sereis"
I bought the new Sims 3 pack. I really love the cityscape. However, I think my most favorite thing... the street food cart. It has tacos, burritos, and other junkie fare. It moves around the city.
The Sims 3: Late Night Updated Hands-On - Star Power, Building the Band, Going Full Vampire - PC Previews at GameSpot - http://www.gamespot.com/pages...
"Late Night will be the next expansion for The Sims 3, and while this new addition adds tons of minor features, there are a handful of major ones that we'll focus on in this update: the ability to become a vampire, the ability to form a hip rock-and-roll combo, and the ability to become a celebrity. We did our best to achieve all three of these lofty new goals, and we have to tell you…it was really hard, you guys. It's almost like you're not meant to become a brilliantly skilled musician who has a popular music group and is also a high-profile celebrity who rubs elbows with showbiz elite and is also a powerful vampire with a close-knit network of bloodsucking buddies in just five minutes flat. Becoming America's next top bloodsucking rock band talent takes time in The Sims 3: Late Night, just like it does in real life. (Wait…what?)"

"Looking for a virtual metropolis in which your Sim can par-tay down? EA just announced the next expansion for The Sims 3, called the "Late Night Expansion." The add-on will include an "active downtown scene" where players can "become a local celebrity, member of a music band, mixologist, director, and more." You can also apparently become a vampire, but if the announcement trailer past the break is any indication, you'll just loiter around a lot of alleys. We imagine it's kinda like being a teenager ... forever."

I finally did a doctor sim. While she was studying at the library, there was a medical emergency! So, she whips out her iHealthPad and some other doohickie and made that teenage sim all better.
Is that a drill in the second picture? *doesn't call Yo for medical advice*
- Michelle M
lolz... No. Looks like some handheld radar thingamabob.
- Yolanda
I know someone who saved someone's life with a drill once, even though she'd never been trained to use one in the manner in which she had to use it :D
- Victor Ganata
I need to get crackin', I haven't done any of these professions!
- Michelle M
I decided to start working my way down the list. I was sitting there wondering why I'd paid for the EP if I wasn't going to, you know.... PLAY. AYE! Also, this isn't the tattoo artist profession, this is the doctor sim getting a tat.
- Yolanda
I have only tried the interior decorator and the self employed (gardener) one. I think I may try the others this weekend.

Totally creeped me out. The mama retired from her job. Suddenly, the toddler sprouts their alien limbs and starts cheering with that sign. Then, after a few moments, she returned to normal. Reminded me of that little old lady from the movie "Legion".
"Even though The Sims 3 is gearing up to give console gamers the chance to live vicariously through its virtual, incoherent inhabitants in October, it doesn't mean EA has ceased support for the PC version of the game. In fact, there's a new expansion coming this fall, titled "The Sims 3 Fast Lane Stuff" pack. This new content pack gives players the choice between four different lifestyle options: racing; intrigue; rockabilly; and classic luxury. Each option provides your Sim with custom furniture, outfits, and vehicles suited to the respective lifestyle choice -- there's even a garage for storing and/or pimping your rides. Suddenly, Xzibit's services don't seem so valuable. If you want to pre-order the $20 add-on, head on over to the EA Store and have at it. In the meanwhile, feel free to swerve into our gallery below for some new screens."

There was an earthquake in my sim town! Here's a sim buried under rubble that the fireman had to rescue. Later, there was a ceremony where he received the key to the town.
I created a gym for Anika three different times, but I guess it wasn't up to her specifications. She told me she 'could not live in this squalor.' I am not amused.
Me neither, joey. This is the first unacceptable, and I have no idea how to fix it.

I guess I am the worst designer ever. One dude told me it was so terrible that he was embarrassed to invite friends over. Sheesh.

Broke down and bought Sims 3 Ambitions. I've only managed to play with the Interior Design profession and apparently I'm not very good. I've gotten more bad reviews than good. The first screen is a sim with her legs crossed. Is that new? And the second, the kids can run a bake sale instead of a lemonade stand like in Sims 2.
I wish sims could sit down when they are chatting on the phone.
- Yolanda
I'm so jealous of you guys. I wish I had a computer that could just run it. I miss playing!
- Anika
Something else I noticed just now is that there are now sims who pick same sex partners on their own. I don't recall that happening in Sims 2. The sim I'm playing right now has 9 brothers and sisters which I've moved out. In reviewing the town households, found two of the siblings had picked same sex. :)
- Yolanda
Oh, watch out for that bake sale stand. You can't just set the kid to work the stand and move on. You have to keep an eye on them because if someone decides to speak to them, they stop working the stand and start chatting.
