Why do Women Get Attracted to Married Men? ~ Capture His Heart Review - there are two reasons for women falling for married men. Firstly, wild attraction. And secondly, vulnerability. For a woman, a married man represents a certain security she craves. A woman feels that a married man - compared to a bachelor - can meet her emotional and material...

Because when YOU look at yourself in the mirror, you see that front tooth that's a bit crooked, the line where your bra presses in (you call this your “back fat”), the too-small breasts or the too-wide rear, your goofy knees, funny toes.... Blendr: A Smartphone App To Broadcast 'I'm Single and Looking' - Forbes
"Sick of first dates being the result of intense online research and communication on dating sites? Would you prefer to just walk around and meet people by wearing a t-shirt that says “I’m single” and lists your interests — but is only visible to other swinging singles? Now, there’s a virtual way of doing that. You have to 'put yourself out there' to meet someone. Are you willing to be this out there? There’s been a popular app for this purpose for a while in the gay community called Grindr — a “geosocial” dating network that shows users single types that are in their immediate vicinity. It’s a nice filtering tool: Rather than having to narrow an infinite pool of prospectives on a dating site to those with whom you have something in common, you can just see whether you have anything in common with the limited set of people within walking distance. The app now has over 2 million users world-wide (and at least one big political scandal), so its creators decided to launch a version for... more... - Spidra Webster from Bookmarklet

‘Weed dating’ is like speed dating, but dirtier | Grist - http://grist.org/list...
"I don’t know what you all look for in a mate, but if one of those qualities is “a willingness to trade farm labor for the possibility of romance,” you might skip speed dating and go for “weed dating.” The AP explains: Typically, speed daters meet at a bar or restaurant and switch conversational partners every few minutes, in hopes of finding someone compatible. With weed dating, this rapid-fire courtship takes place on the farm, with singles working together in the fields. Women are assigned to particular rows and instructed in the art of weeding. Men have to switch rows every three minutes and learn from women what they’re supposed to do. Weed dating is preferable to speed dating in many ways. Instead of sitting on your butt in a depressingly lit room, at least you are outside. And you can get a lot of information about a potential partner: Does he or she pitch in or sit idle while you do all the weeding? Is that cute guy intelligent enough to distinguish a zucchini plant from a... more... - Spidra Webster from Bookmarklet

Magazine - All the Single Ladies - The Atlantic
"Recent years have seen an explosion of male joblessness and a steep decline in men’s life prospects that have disrupted the “romantic market” in ways that narrow a marriage-minded woman’s options: increasingly, her choice is between deadbeats (whose numbers are rising) and playboys (whose power is growing). But this strange state of affairs also presents an opportunity: as the economy evolves, it’s time to embrace new ideas about romance and family—and to acknowledge the end of “traditional” marriage as society’s highest ideal." - Spidra Webster from Bookmarklet

In defense of single people - Salon.com
"If the trend pieces and studies are to be believed, we’re living through a new golden age of the single person. Fewer Americans than ever are getting married, and they’re waiting longer and longer to do so. More people than ever are living by themselves, often by choice. And yet, if pop culture is to be believed, a lot of them are awfully unhappy about it. In everything from “Girls” to Carly Rae Jepsen singles, our culture is obsessed with the prospect and possibility of finding a partner and escaping the lonely purgatory of singledom. Singleness, the message seems to be, is merely an unfulfilling wind-up for the far greater thrill of a real romantic relationship. But what would happen if we stopped hating on singledom, and started loving it? In his new book, “Single: Arguments for the Uncoupled,” Michael Cobb, a professor of English at the University of Toronto, argues that our negative attitudes toward single people aren’t just hurting singles — they’re hurting our relationships... more... - Spidra Webster from Bookmarklet

Sniff Your Way To Love: The Pheromone Parties Waft into L.A.: LAist
"The latest dating trend to hit singletons has us shifting a little uncomfortably in our seats today. Maybe we're all germophobes, but one of the last things we prefer to do during a first date is sniff the well-worn shirt of a potential mate. However, young singles in Los Angeles are apparently turned on by matchmaking via body odor and turned up for a pheromone party earlier this month. The Daily chatted with The Pheromone Parties creator, Judith Prays, whose fêtes invite prowling men and women to pick mates based solely on the chemical triggers of sexual attraction. The 25-year-old Atlanta-based Prays says the only items attendees need to bring to her parties are as follows: an open mind, a well-worn shirt and a Ziploc bag. The Daily explains the events leading up to and of the evening: Prior to attending the events, guests sleep in the same T-shirt for three nights, and on the fourth night they put it in a plastic bag and bring it to the party. The bags are numbered and labeled... more... - Spidra Webster from Bookmarklet

"Grindr is a geosocial networking application for the iPhone, iPod touch, iPad, Blackberry OS and Android devices. Available for download from the Apple App Store and the Android Market, Grindr comes in both free and subscription-based versions (Grindr Xtra). The app makes use of the device geolocation, which allows users to access other gay and bisexual men within close proximity. This is accomplished through a user interface that displays a grid of representative pictures of men, arranged from nearest to farthest away. Tapping on a picture will display a brief profile for that user, as well as the option to chat, send pictures, and share one's location." - Spidra Webster from Bookmarklet

Yes, I go dutch on dates. No, I don't expect the guy to pay for me just because he's a guy.
LOL I take it you're reading Mona's discussion on FB. :) - Hookuh Tinypants
Yeah. :) - Spidra Webster
I don't understand why some women want equal rights and then insist on the parts of the previous structure that suit them, like guys paying for dates. I understand we haven't got true equality yet and that men are paid more for the same work as women, but we're not going to get there in my opinion if women are asking for equal rights but insisting on chivalry as well. - Spidra Webster
I'm more of a "Person who asked is person who pays" type. But I'm also the person who says "You know you're not paying for me, right?" and then steals the check and pays for the whole thing. :) I'm kind of frustrating to date. I actually hate having a man pay for me because I don't want him to think I expect to be "taken care of" like this is the 1930's and I'm a poor helpless woman. - Hookuh Tinypants
I've not made much money most of my adult life so I go dutch rather than taking turns because I honestly don't know where I'll be next week financially. Like a lot of people I live paycheck to paycheck. So rather than having them pay and then maybe having me be flat broke when it's my turn, I pay as I go and make sure no one's having to carry me. - Spidra Webster
I had to develop a little bit of flexibility because there were a couple people I met who really wanted to pick up the check, seemed to feel bad if I offered to go dutch, and assured me they'd prefer it if they paid. But I feel pretty uncomfortable with that and would try not to let that rack up too much because I'd personally feel guilty about it. I don't like an uneven "balance of trade". - Spidra Webster
I have never dated much either, but I totally agree with the "person who asks" rule. Most of my dating has been more like group outings. Of course, I usually (try to) pay if there was some type of romantic interest involved. Most of the relationships that actually went somewhere were women who took charge. Who at least attempted to argue about the check if not paying it when I wasn't looking. LOL. - Rahsheen
I'm also to a point more now where I am completely open and honest about whether or not I can afford a date or if I am expecting to pick up the tab. I know that's kind of taboo but I figure, how can it hurt? I also have no problem saying "Hey, it gets kind of expensive doing all this. How about we make dinner together and just see a movie afterwards?" Easier to do when you have your own... more... - Hookuh Tinypants
I'm with you, Tinypants. If someone can't accept that THE RENT IS TOO DAMN HIGH then we probably don't need to kick it. LOL. - Rahsheen
Absolutely. If someone gets offended because I'm talking frankly about that kind of stuff (especially when we're in the worst economic depression since the Great Depression), we're not going to get along. - Spidra Webster

Where’s my reply, @OkCupid? (Prelude to a lawsuit) | Avitable
"Some of you may have seen this tweet from me on August 30th: OkCupid, the self-proclaimed “best dating site on Earth”, is a mostly free dating site that, while completely legitimate for people who are seriously interested in dating, is also filled with people looking for threesomes, married browsers looking for sex on the side, or, occasionally, Nigerian princes who want to give you money. I had a profile on there at one point and ended up going out with a few people as a result of it. As far as free dating sites go, OkCupid made me pretty happy, until August 30th. On the morning of August 30th, I awoke to several emails from OkCupid, all sent to the email address I have associated with this site (my first name at my last name dot com). The first email, sent at 12:55 AM, welcomed me to OkCupid and thanked me for creating an OkCupid dating profile. Needless to say, I was a bit alarmed, since unless I was sleep dating, there was no way for me to have created any type of profile at... more... - Spidra Webster from Bookmarklet

Rant inspired by a tweet I saw: Look, I am 6 feet tall and I have never complained about a man's height. WTF do you care if he's shorter than you? Is he intelligent? Is he caring? Is he funny? Is he there to listen, really listen to how your day went & give you hugs when it went shitty? Does he have your back? WhoTF cares about his height?
This goes the other way, too. I can't tell you how many men wouldn't dance with me and/or date me because I was taller than they were. I didn't care about the height difference - THEY did. - Spidra Webster

Dating Startup Steals One Million Profiles From Facebook
"We’ve asked Facebook what its legal plans are regarding LovelyFaces.com, which appears to have pulled its dating site that launched earlier this week with 250,000 profiles stolen from the social network without members’ permission. Wired reported that the online dating startup publicly discloses that the profiles come from Facebook. The LovelyFaces.com, Paolo Cirio and Alessandro Ludovico, say on their corporate site, Face to Facebook: Facebook, an endlessly cool place for so many people, becomes at the same time a goldmine for identity theft and dating — unfortunately, without the user’s control. But that’s the very nature of Facebook and social media in general. If we start to play with the concepts of identity theft and dating, we should be able to unveil how fragile a virtual identity given to a proprietary platform can be. The founders’ Face to Facebook page includes a reasonably visible link labeled “legal,” where they say: If your identity has been hurt by this website, just... more... - Spidra Webster from Bookmarklet
