“For a few friends whom it's impossible to schedule time to hang out with, I've now resorted to saying "you know, there might be a terrorist attack in Beijing. How bad would you feel if I were to die in Beijing and you didn't see me before I left because you didn't reply to my email?".”
My plan has backfired of course. In my friend's words: "if death in Beijing is a real possibility, maybe I don't want to get too attached to you before you leave. :-)" - Ana
Heh, I just got an email like yours because I'm so deep into email bankruptcy. I bias my life so that I do email last in the day, and that almost always means i don't answer a lot of my email. I'm not going to be a slave to the inbox. I refuse. Instead I'll be a slave to Twitter and FriendFeed. :-) - Robert Scoble
A better carrot/stick would have been, if I don't see you before I go, I won't remember to bring you back a wacky souvenir, like a chocolate snack cake where the slogan promises: "This tastiness cannot be carried, even with both hands." (Scoble, I'll have to find an extra-wacky souvenir for you :) - Ana
"Al Gore—or, as he is known in his own language, Gore-Al—placed his son, Kal-Al, gently in the one-passenger rocket ship, his brow furrowed by the great weight he carried in preserving the sole survivor of humanity's hubristic folly. "There is nothing left now but to ensure that my infant son does not meet the same fate as the rest of my doomed race," Gore said. "I will send him to a new planet, where he will, I hope, be raised by simple but kindly country folk and grow up to be a hero and protector to his adopted home."" - Dan Hsiao
This was too good. Had to reshare from a private feed. - Dan Hsiao
I can't really tell. Their site is way too complicated for me to understand. I wish they could give me the information in the form of a "feed" :) - Ana
It offers geographical balance. It offers experience (as Mondale did for Carter). But does it offer "change"? And will the coal miners vote for Biden? - Ontario Emperor via fftogo
Remember, a VP candidate has the same electoral function as the Presidential candidate's neck tie, so the question is, does Biden do a good job in that neck tie role. - j1m
Exclusive interview with The Times, legendary songwriter publicly supports Obama. Says he is "redefining the nature of politics from the ground up". - Steve Isaacs
She's 91 and she might be Barack's biggest fan in China (as some may readily point out, she is not a hardworking white American, she does not live in a state with a lot of electoral votes, and she was, in fact, accepted into all the elite universities) - Ana
wow- she looks fit as a fiddle - whats her secret ? - Peter Dawson
"And then, as the boy who sold his bike and video games looked on, Hillary Clinton's campaign blew his entire donation on confetti. Food for thought for Dalton Hatfield as he walks to school, and then home again, to not play video games." - Robert Konigsberg
West Virginia seems so circa 1859. I know it's a generalization and not everyone there is like that, but c'mon! - Mike Reynolds
Is there anything else we can do? Is there some sort of org that will receive donations (clothes, etc,) and direct the items specifically to the cause? - April Buchheit
There may be, but I don't know of any good, coordinated effort. There are still a lot of logistical problems w/ getting other stuff out there--first to China, and then, to the stricken areas. Money may just be the most practical, unfortunately. - Ana
"After arriving home to Fremont in the wee hours Wednesday from her campaign stint in Indiana, she was back to work the next morning at FriendFeed, where, even for a start-up, the days are more predictable than campaign work." :) - Ana
Congratulations on the interview, Ana. I made sure to highlight your stumping for Obama in Scoble's Qik video from the other day, and Kristine enjoyed meeting you as well. - Louis Gray
Here is a version w/ photos: http://www.mercurynews.com/loc... You have to click on "2" under the photo of the Hillary supporters though. That said, it's not really worth it, since I look sort of strange. Must have caught me in a moment of naive, wide-eyed support :) - Ana
"Clinton's apparent loss of the nomination was a consequence of her campaign's incompetence, but it was also a result of her reliance on the same-old. The shameless populism that seemed a possible game changer to media observers, micro-ideas like the gas-tax holiday, the willingness to go negative — which Obama tried intermittently, in halfhearted reaction to Clinton's attacks — appeared very old and clichéd to Obama's legion of young supporters, who were the real game changers in this year of extraordinary turnouts." - Ana
To sum up the article, Clinton thought being the obvious choice with lots of experience would be an asset. Turned out it was a deteriment, as voters really want change. They also underestimated their opponent and didn't react fast enough. In my mind, the way she managed her campaign is a fair predictor of how her presidency would be. - Jason Kaneshiro
Actually, I found the article a lot more interesting b/c of Joe Klein's analysis of how easy it is for everyone, including the media, to get wrapped up in what turns out to be “smart politics” instead of smart policy. I almost wish he’d gone on more about the “two minds” he had while listening to her campaign, and how the impression she gives when you watch her is very different from when you’re reading what she’s actually saying. This was definitely how I’ve felt since the couple of weeks leading up to the PA primary… that watching her, it’d be pretty easy to be swayed towards her candidacy. - Ana
Personally I think Obama's understanding of how to organize groups of people using the tools of the Internet were a very important component, as I describe at http://digitalpresidency.com - Ranjit Mathoda
=Ana, if only more of the press would be so introspective. It's interesting to listen to someone who seems to basically enjoy "the game", who is at least partially smiling and chucking when Hillary does her thing at the gas-pump. (I just want to throw something at the screen.) - ⓞnor
But let's not forget that the majority of the Rules and Bylaws Committee are Clinton supporters, which is to say the Michigan and Florida delegates could actually be successfully used to steal the nomination. (Dean et al are clearly open to this possibility.) There must be a good reason, after all, for Clinton's refusal to exit the race (beyond her "personality"). And it would be naive of us at this point to think that an election couldn't or wouldn't be stolen on account of popular support. - joneilortiz
Come home, Ana. FriendFeed needs you. - Louis Gray
I am home! Headed to the Fort Wayne airport as the polls closed, and saw the results at SFO :) Starting tomorrow, I only canvass for FriendFeed :) - Ana
“Tomorrow, I leave for Erie PA. It's close to Ohio and is definitely "Hillary country." I've started telling any Obama supporter I meet that if we actually win that congressional district, they owe me dinner :)”
This was a very long speech, but definitely worth reading (and watching if you have time--it's not short at 36 minutes). The news outlets' summaries really don't do it justice. It's very full of nuance, and understandably, the media is not able to fully capture it. That said, the same can be said of the issues that Obama tackles in the speech. Personally, I felt it was the most honest speech I'd ever heard from a politician. - Ana
"I see Senator Clinton this way: 'She’s not running for president. She’s running for valedictorian.' I love her smile, her grin and her blue eyes. But the smile borders on hysteria." - Ana
'The Obama campaign came up with a pretty good response to Hillary!’s 3 AM ad. But, really, just slapping “I’m Barack Obama and I approve this message” on the end of this would have been more effective' - j1m
An article that sums up the mathematical issues Hillary faces... a helpful reminder for people who were feeling down after Tuesday. For Obama supporters, it's important to keep positive and keep doing whatever we can :) - Ana
This guy's got a good point--and, it made me laugh out loud. I'm in the group of people who've written emails with the word "inspiration" in them (or some derivative thereof). That said, I printed out Obama's 60-page "Plan for America" last night and read through all his policies. And I agree with nearly all of them. - Ana

KFury, at least you didn't write “money shot”. - John Lam
