My point was just that it seems totally wrong to label it "the other major English / European train" because it's still (if wikipedia is to believed) built on TGV technology. On the other side the article doesn't mention ICE, which is a completely different train, that competes on international level with the TGV. "I was wondering why do you say the Eurostar is a "English / European" train? It's just a TGV with different colors on it... The european concurence to the shinkansen is the TGV and the (german) ICE. For the rest, i agree that trains, be they fast trains or slower regional trains, work great in europe (if you have the money to use it). Sadly the european trend is to make traveling by train more and more expensive, at least in France and in Germany.
