Yay! The big update, Math Ref v2.2 (http://bit.ly/2rMgO8) is out on the App Store and Math Ref Free v2.2 is under review as of today. Now that this update is out, we're already working on the details regarding the next one. In our previous post we talked about what we have planned for the update: New Feature: -Searching! New Section: -Algorithms and Data Structures -Financial formulas -Real Estate formulas Additional Content: -Differential Equations -Series and Sequences On top of that, there are two things that users have been requesting. The first is some way to zoom in on the equations and the second is more examples. With respect to the first, the way the app is currently set up we can't do this. And as for the second, the app would crash everytime if we tried to load all the equations for one subject in the Examples section. So, to fix both these problems we're reworking how we display the equations. Currently when you press on an equation a view comes up with some information...

We submitted Math Ref v2.2 to Apple last night and we're really hoping for a fast review process. We've added a ton of content to the new version and are really excited to get working on the next version. Here's a list of the new stuff you can find in version 2.2: New Sections: -Chemistry -Interactive periodic table -Probability and Statistics Algebra: -More functions -Help on graphing functions -Solving perfect squares Differentiation: -Functions and derivative tests -Typo fixing Integration: -Integration by partial fractions -Typo fixing Table of integrals: -Typo fixing Discrete: -Typo fixing Vector Calculus: -Differential Geometry Physics: -Quantum mechanics -Navier-Stokes equations -Friction term added to Bernoulli Equations -Sonic velocity -Added precision to constants -Typo fixing That's a lot, we know. We're going to start making the updates smaller in size, so we can get more out faster. The next is going to feature a lot of stuff you guys have been asking for. Let us know...

It's come to our attention in the past few days that there was a bug in Math Ref that was causing a crash for those using iPhone OS 3.1.2. We just submited an update to Apple that should fix this bug and we are extremely sorry to our users who have experienced this issue. This update is not the massive update we've been working on, but rather a patch update to fix this crash issue. However, along with this fix we've also taken some time to fix some typos and add a bit of clairification to a few equations. We are still hard at work on the major update and it should be ready for submission by the end of the month. We're sorry for this issue and for the delay the major update has taken us. If you have any questions or comments feel free to either use the form to the left or leave a comment below.

This past week has been absolutely amazing and surreal. A week ago to this day we found ourselves in the "What's Hot" section on the iTunes App Store and through the week, as of this writing we're ranked #1 in the Reference section and #41 in all paid apps, and to be honest we couldn't be happier. Through this week we've gotten a lot of feedback from new users via email, blogs, and reviews on the App Store to know what needs to go into future updates to make Math Ref the best it can be. We already have the next update well under way and we've begun to plan what's going to go into the next version. Here's a list of what's going to be in the next version: NEW! Chemistry section NEW! Differential Geometry section NEW! Statistics section Algebra: More content such as inverses, more fundamentals of functions, solving roots and perfect squares and some more examples. Trigonometry: Better clarification of the unit circle. Integration: Adding some clarification to some formulas. Table of...

Amazing news, Math Ref has broken into the Top 50 paid apps category on the iTunes App Store! Thanks so much to everyone for your incredible support and all the awesome feedback we've received from this. We know there's a lot of work that still needs to go into Math Ref and we'll continue to do our best to get it done. Thanks again everyone, we are absolutely humbled and owe it all to you guys, our users.
- Chris
We just wanted to thank everyone for supporting us and helping make Math Ref one of the top 10 reference apps on the iTunes App Store. As of this post we're ranked 8! Not that long ago we were thinking about moving on to other projects and only doing minor updates to Math Ref as it wasn't justifying it's development cost. We then decided to make one more super polished update with some new features and content that users had asked for as a sort of "Thanks for the support," last update. A few weeks after that update and some nice pieces on a few blogs around the same time (http://bit.ly/dM5MR, http://bit.ly/bi4Dm), we started to rise in our rankings. After lots of recent emails from users requesting new features and the obvious support for our app we've committed ourself to Math Ref as our primary app and are working a little on other new apps. We just wanted to say thanks again for all your support and encouraging words. We appreciate every bit of it and we know we wouldn't be here...

Good news everyone! The new full version of Math Ref (2.1) is available on the iTunes AppStore (http://bit.ly/jFlaz). We're super excited about this update as it includes many new features and sections. The first big change is the new Favorites section, which allows users to "favorite" just about any equation and have them stored in this new section. This allows for fast reference of equations. The next big change are the new sections. We've added the Greek Alphabet section as well as the Prime Number section from the free version of Math Ref and also added a new Physics section. Here's a list of some new subsections and where they can be found. - Zero, Radicals, Complex and Absolute Values in the Algebra section - Theorems in the Geometry section - More identites and Laws of Sines and Cosines in the Trigonometry section - Better organization and refinment of definitions in the Linear Algebra section - Fourier in the Series and Sequences section - Limits added to the Differentiation...

Sad news today. The full version of Math Ref v2.0.1 has shown up on Appulo.us, a site devoted to linking to cracked versions of iPhone/iPod Touch applications. Now to be clear, we actually don't have a problem with the existence of Appulo.us. On the contrary, for the most part we do agree that there are a lot of "get rich quick" or junk apps on the App Store, however, Math Ref is not one of those apps. We've put in a lot of effort in making Math Ref the best math reference application for the iPhone and iPod Touch and even offer a free version for people to try before they buy. Many of the points Appulo.us makes regarding why they exists we feel just doesn't describe or pertain to Math Ref. That being said, again, we realize the need for something like Appulo.us to exist and have no problem with it. However, after Math Ref appeared on Appulo.us we saw a significant drop in sales. Because of this, we've decided to delay the update to Math Ref 2.1. This update includes a new Favorites...

You guys have spoken and we've listened. The ads have been removed from Math Ref Free 2.1.2, which has been submitted to Apple. We'll admit, we were making some money from the ads, however your support is worth way more than the ads money. We thank you for all the support, comments, and emails we've received regarding Math Ref, Math Ref Free, and Happy Maau in general. We're just about done with the next full version of Math Ref we're sure you'll be happy with. More content, a new physics section, and a favorites feature to name just a few of the new things to this version. So, just to reiterate, NO MORE ADS in Math Ref Free! Math can be hard enough, the last thing you want to look at is an ad for something you don't need.
- Chris
We feel like we should apologize for the 2.1 update to Math Ref Free. There was a big image rendering issue that we didn't catch until it was too late. As a result we've recently submitted a patch update, version 2.1.1 to Apple. We've not only made changes to how the images were being displayed, but we also fixed some typos. We think the presentation of the equations are much better and we hope you all love the new version. Let us know what you think when it comes out.
- Chris
We're still hard at work on the next version of Math Ref and wanted to share with you some of the new things going into this next version. We're adding three new sections; Primes, a Greek Alphabet, and Favorites. Primes is a list of the first 10,000 prime numbers. Who doesn't want that handy list in their pocket. The Greek Alphabet section is a list of upper and lowercase characters for the Greek alphabet with the name of the character. When reading a math book, homework assignment, or some reference material, it can be frustrating to see all the Greek and other variables. We hope this helps a bit. Lastly, is the Favorites section which you can read about in some previous posts. The way we're handing the change from portrait to landscape is also changing. In the current and previous version the size of the equations did not change to reflect the change in the orientation of the device. We've now fixed that and each equation will scale up when you rotate to landscape and scale down...
- Chris
We've changed our image pipeline and now the equations look great. We're now handling the change from portrait to landscape and the equations are resizing properly. Check out this pic to see what a difference it has made.
- Chris
Well, along with implementing the new features and sections for the next update to Math Ref, we've also been squashing some bugs and cleaning things up. We were recently reviewed by The iPhone Blog and have been fixing all the errors and suggestions that were raised. Check it out and comment on it. The more people that let us know what they think about the app the better. We're making this app for you guys, so let us know how we're doing. We've got just about every error and suggestion taken care of, but there's a few more that will be squashed out today. With respect to the equation editor, we're going to make the input similar to a calculator. This seems like the most natural way to handle the input and won't be as cumbersome as if you had to write the equations with your finger. What do you think? We're open to suggestions. Hope you all are enjoying the app and if you love math or fun little characters check out our store for some cool shirts and other merchandise.
- Chris
We're working on a new version of Math Ref that will include an equation editor, a favorites feature to save items for quick reference and we'll be expanding just about every section to help you get more out of Math Ref. As we continue to develop this full version of Math Ref, in order to keep our demo version free, Math Ref Free, it will be ad supported. Math Ref Free contain just about all the great things that the full version will have, except without the equation editor, favorites, integration table, and a bit less content per section. We think this will let those that don't need the ability to make their own equations, or don't want to keep track of their favorite equations a good feel for what the full version has to offer. Also, Math Ref has been spotted on these site and we'd love for you to check them and our revamped Cafepress store out. http://thomas.infoxenter.com/app-sto...http://iphoneapplicationlist.com/2009......
- Chris
Next week we'll be releasing a free limited version of Math Ref. This limited version will be missing some of the great things the full version has like examples, tips and some topics and sections. We've made a chart showing the differences between the two apps with respect to sections to help you make a more informed decision when you go to purchase the full version. We like to think of the free version as a try before you buy. With additional content, examples and tapping equations for tips, you'll want the full version. We're confident that after using this limited version and knowing what the full version has to offer you'll want the full version. So, if you're a student, a teacher, or just someone looking to brush up on their math skills for a project or work, we hope you'll give this free version a try when it hits the iTunes App Store.
- Chris
We've finished the new site and are very excited to say that we've also created a store filled with some awesome goodies. The Happy Maau Store is up and running and we'd love it if you checked it out. There's a ton of new content on this site compared to our last one. We've expanded our projects sections to allow users and anyone interested to leave us some feedback. You can do this by selecting any of the projects to the left. Not only that, but we've also expanded the IPs page to give users a better interaction with our content. Have a look around and let us know what you think. We hope you like the new site as much as we do.

A quick note to let you know that your reputation in our home has significantly gone downhill, thanks to your recent twitter concerning porn stars who, er, “Twit”….My husband and I have just gone through a recovery of his left over bad internet habits from adolescence, to put it mildly (we just got married). He *use* to follow your twitter, but... - http://leo.tumblr.com/post...
I have to agree with this lady you severally tarnished you reputation with this post......Ok my wife is gone, i loved it i now follow more porn stars than anyone else.. Ok not really.. It was an interesting post keep them coming
- Todd Proffitt
What sad little lives people must have that they get offended that easy. I will still spread the word of Leo and tell everyone who asks me a tech question that they should listen to your radio show.
- MarkCarras
People need to quit caring about the small crap, if they didn't want to read the list then ignore it, no big deal
- BCK
from twhirl
Wow. Feel sorry for that lady's poor husband.
- Jasmin Patry
No matter what you say or do, somebody gets pissed off. Ignore it Leo.
- Todd Brunner
from twhirl
A link to the tweet please? I don't see it.
- Todd Hoff
Was it signed "all mighty and righteous"?
- Al Degutis
from twhirl
At first read I thought it was a joke or satire. That woman is a bit off balanced. I mean, why do you care if your husband is following twittering porn stars.
- Chris
from twhirl
nowI'm off to find Leo's porn tweets... Can't believe I missed them.
- Al Degutis
from twhirl
I can just imagine the conversation where she made him decide to not follow the porn stars. Now he just gets his porn fix in ways she doesn't know about.
- MarkCarras
Well that's just a bizarre statement. How is it your fault he has an issue with porn. Or should I say his wife.
- Eric @ CSTechcast.com
The funny thing is that the porn stars' tweets are even more mundane and boring than everyone else's. They're far from salacious.
- Leo Laporte
I especially liked the very last bit. "Glad you failed, Leo." WTF? Why be glad about something like that? (and he didn't fail, so WTF? again) She's a sad old cow, and she's probably not even that old. I think we should start a pool on how long their marriage lasts.
- tinypants - Hagitha of FF
I RT’ed it so I found the humor, I’m sure they have someone else to follow. Anyone else feel sorry for the poor guy how married this prude?
- Chris Jenkins
Silly silly people against porn. Why not enjoy it?
- Richard A.
On a seperate note poor guy married to her ;-). I'm sure he has no problem with it :-)
- Richard A.
I totally feel sorry for him. Why do I think that he didn't have a real "internet problem"...that his activities prior to marriage were just typical dude behavior and this woman totally whipped it out of him?
- tinypants - Hagitha of FF
i hope they don't reproduce before their marriage ends.
- todd
Anyone who follows tech has to realize that, except for the defense industry, the porn industry has made some of the largest contributions to tech advances. So it's kinda hard to avoid porn...
- Ontario Emperor
Riiight.'Cause unsubbing would solve the problem. Why doesn't she shut down his internet while she's at it?
- vijay
lame! For every $20 sub you lost on that post, you probably gained three more. This Week In Porn, FTW
- Jim Shireman
i don't mind p0rn tweets from you leo. and you didn't fail.
- Oliver Hörold
If they just got married, shouldn't they be too "busy" to post crap like this? One other thing, how come no one told me there was porn on the internet?
- J. Abdul-Qahhar
I understand that it was a re-tweet, but Leo's got kids - he should know better than to post NSFW stuff.
- Steve Webb
@webb - if you let your kids on the internet, then you have already told them what porn is, else you're a crap parent who'd rahter their kids learned things alone and without context like you did when you read the 10 page World book encyclopedia entry on sex.
- Matthew DeVries
from fftogo
This is histerical, keep this for those moments you need a good laugh... maybe this is the next internet memes, the email from the crazy wife?
- Brad Arsenault
from twhirl
Wow....Can't this guy hide his porn habit from his wife like everyone else??
- David
I'm a little conflicted with this. I love Leo and I know his tweet was just a commentary on how cliques and groups are existing on twitter that some would never know existed. It's quite fascinating actually. However, there is a large group of young impressionable people that follow Leo closely. Perhaps including the link was a smidge ill advised. It is NO reason to go to the extents that this woman (who obviously has her husband whipped) did. Thats just stupid.
- Jim Bednarz
So one little innocent tweet about porn stars on twitter is enough to send that husband spiraling back into bad internet habits? I've got news for that couple. He's never going to change and she's never going to get the control over him that she wants. And then blaming you? Ugh. Pathetic and lame. You're better off without them as fans.
- Lise
This post was a tribe-oriented post, with the interesting point raised by @jim about groups. It showed at least to me that there are different twitter streams. I don't believe this was anywhere near a NSFW or offensive post. Excess of prudery for some?
- Jean-Charles VERDIE
from twhirl
Apparently she didn't even know about Leo's previous porn career.
- Kevin Leroux
"both our choices, not just mine..." Always nice to see a husband that knows his place. Let us know what you really think whenever she's not hovering over your shoulder...if that EVER happens.
- Fleagle
1 vote for starting This Week in Porn! :)
- Jim Lecter
from Nambu
gradually "meh" is becoming my most hated word used on the web. Complete lack of constructive discussion/meaning.
- Zee.
Strong competition will only make twitter better.
- Frank Senseney
My network on Facebook is completely different from my Twitter network. These two will never be in competition for my attention because they serve different purposes for me.
- Mike Doeff
Right... We all need to know what we're all doing. It won't be long before we text our friends to find out what we think about things, and what we're actually doing at that moment.
- Carolyn Ann
xavier - nice post. I agree with you 100%.
- Mike Doeff
I agree with Mike D. Two different worlds.
- Chris
from twhirl
They have just made sure that facebook status updates will be less personal if suddenly people on my network can have them visible on a widget in a public space
- Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
Both personal and friends status have always been available as RSS feeds on FB and therefore it was already possible to read friends statuses from any feed reader, or through a private room on FriendFeed (and even on a widget Joelle!); so where’s the change?
- Flavio
@flapi First, you shouldn't need to be friends with the people to read their status updates...which you need to be now. Secondly essentially, the excitement lies in the fact that you will be able to share video, images, links with ease via various online/offline applications - creating more of a public news feed setup for both individuals and companies. In addition, the api allows for...
- Zee.
@Zee: I was referring just to the status part, not media. True that you can access non-friends status, but what for? I follow non-friends on twitter or FF as it's a sharing of information, while FB status I would not find interesting. And they have already been attacking FriendFeed since long, when they started to include a lifestream-like feed, then comments, and already announced likes, but even though FB has 1000 times more users, FF will always be better for the quality of conversations.
- Flavio
Very few people understand twitter, even fewer have the time or inclination. Everyone I know (almost) has a facebook account and uses it. I'm really interested in seeing what facebook do with status messages, as they become more open.
- Richard A.
@flapic I am referring to the status part too. The status will include audio, video and links...Also "True that you can access non-friends status, but what for?" - well for the same reason you do it on Twitter...hence why it's competition.
- Zee.
Zee, the average discussions on twitter and FF are of a higher level that what you can find on FB... so the signal/noise ratio will be extremely low. Hard to find interesting people to follow on FB I think
- Flavio
@flapic Facebook is about friends you've had for years though, from uni etc. twitter is random strangers from around the world.
- Richard A.
Richard, that was my point above. I don't follow strangers on FB but just friends, while twitter can give me interesting info also from people I never met. And about the media on status: FB already has posted items, also with RSS, the only addition would be showing them also on top of the page. I keep preferring FriendFeed.
- Flavio
Is that just a customised theme/UI for Windows Mobile?
- Tyson Key
Well, even if it is running Windows Mobile you must note that it is running on a 1Ghz processor that is almost 2 times faster than any other chipset used today on a mobile phone. That should at least deliver a good user experience. Anyway I agree that Android would have been a much better choice (also from a pure market point of view). I just wrote about this yesterday on my blog.
- Alessandro Galetto
from twhirl
I know that WinMo might not have jiggling breasts and Ocarina, but I've been using CE-based devices since 2002, and I've not been under the impression that the PPC platforms suffer from a dearth of apps.
- MiniMage TKDteacher of FF
I like the 1Gz process they went with. Should be good enough for any type of mobile app.
- Robert Peña
Hmm, isn't a 1GHz CPU overkill for a mobile phone? I didn't know they made ARM or MIPS architecture CPUs capable of it.
- Tyson Key
That's not terribly surprising, no? Although I was hoping they would switch to i7 - A quad-core that can shut down two if its cores when not needed.
- sdfx
sounds like a natural progression for iMacs. I would think they would put the i7's in the Mac Pros.
- Rob
now i may wait... was planning a MacPro purchase this summer but this just might fill my video processing needs
- andy brudtkuhl
I'm going to wait to see if this is true. Planning on getting a new iMac for iphone dev work.

Got my first mac 5 months ago - 24" iMac... so this will be my first round of my-mac-is-old-now pain
- Blake Caldwell
Blake, I got my first Mac four years ago - still using it... you'll get used to the pain, unless you've got the cash to keep up, and in that case you'll only feel a little pinch ;-)
- Chris Heath
Aren't current iMacs already Core 2 Duo, i.e., dual core? I'm confused.
- David Chartier
David, I think the idea is that they won't switch exclusively to quad-cores.
