I think the Dupont tunnel question is pretty perplexing. I'm sure we'll hear some good ideas, but it's got to be totally gross down there, right? I can't imagine it has good ventilation, and there's probably a rat problem.

I find it preposterous that Yglz isn't more of a soccer fan. But I love his increasingly frequent soccer commentary. I think his point is interesting, but I'd add the caveat that there IS a lot of "cheating" in soccer. Usually this refers to diving, or "simulation," but the point is that there is such a thing in the game. Now, that said, the hysteria directed at Henry is outrageous. He did not cheat. He didn't call his own foul, but then again, I've never seen that happen in soccer. The real takeaway from this episode is that we need instant replay. The entire officiating philosophy of the game is obsolete. We can't honestly expect one ref and two linesman, even with all the training in the world, to call-it-like-they-see-it and expect them to get it right. The game is just too fast, too quick.

"Abortion coverage will not be outlawed in this country. It will simply be tiered, reserved for those rich enough to afford insurance themselves or lucky enough to receive from their employers."

The GOP obsession with nuclear IS interesting. I'm mostly ambivalent. But if giving them some nuclear power is what it takes to get them on board for robust energy legislation, I think it's a pretty easy trade.

Pennant is a wreck. No wonder he failed at Arsenal: In 2005 Pennant was arrested after crashing his car without insurance while over the drink-drive limit and serving a 16-month ban. He was sentenced to 90 days' imprisonment and forced to wear an electric tag. So, are England scared of him? Pennant's response is immediate: "100%." For Pennant that fear is unfounded. "I've played at every level, why would I suddenly be a problem in the senior team?" he asks. "But the FA is all about clean and perfect images and I haven't got the best background, so ...If you've got someone with great ability and you don't pick him because of his background, that's a bit silly."

Unimpressed. There are two huge parks within two blocks, and another smaller-but-brand-new park down the street. This space could easily be turned into low-cost housing, or sold to a developer for goo-gobs of money. Way too many parks. We need an end to this madness.

Question: have we reversed the Bush Administration rule that prevents slaughterhouses from voluntarily testing for Mad Cow? That seems like an obvious place to start...

Interesting. Stan Kroenke owns 40% of the Rams. If he is selling his stake, it would be an ENORMOUS payday, which could afford him the opportunity to buy all the Arsenal shares he wanted. Like, say, Nina Bracewell-Smith's 15%.
