When I click on the the Podcasts directory on iTunes, it says: "The item you're requested is currently not available in the (country) store"
- Paul Sarcia
I know certain content is only available through certain country stores. They generally work out which country of origin you are from by the credit card you used to register for a store account (or maybe your IP address for free stuff?) It's a real pain when you want to get something that's say for US only buyers.
- Scott Mackenzie
You need to check with your provider. We use Optus and had no problems although our business plan meant it was cheaper to send text messages than talk. You get charged an access fee by the local telecom wherever you are as well as what your service provider back here will charge.
- Kim Baillie
Yes you can use it and unless your using wifi it will coat you a FORTUNE!!!!
- Ed Dale
when my son comes to visit from Australia, he just buys a sim card and puts it in his phone. It's cheaper that way.
- Nancy Sutherland
What about using skype phone on your iPhone?
- Claude Pelanne
I once made two calls on my mobile (to another mobile) while abroad... that was a $700 mistake :(
- Jorge Blanco
Hi, I work for one of the big phone companies (can't tell you which) in iPhone tech support is AUS. you can use your iPhone overseas. Here's some links to the roaming charges for optus http://tinyurl.com/5b6mw4 and Telstra http://tinyurl.com/4afrwm and vodafone http://tinyurl.com/7zul6e . Just remember data is the real killer when roaming. On the iPhone go to settings/general/network and make sure data roaming is switched off unless you want a second mortgage.
- Scott Mackenzie
If you want to unlock your iPhone for use with another carriers sim card you had better allow about 10 days to do it because that's how long it takes for most carriers to complete. You also have to restore the iPhone with iTunes to complete the unlock so make sure you prepare in advance unless you are taking your computer with you (restoring will wipe your data on any other computer
- Scott Mackenzie
You might want to find Tweeter -- it takes anything you send on Twitter (you can set exceptions) and makes it your FB status . . . I like hitting all three services at once! (Tw, FF, FB) 8-)
- LJF Wolffe
LJF - does that annoy your friends with your status changing so often? It was mentioned to me recently
- Alistair (alpinefolk)
I don't tweet that often, and nobody's mentioned it to me so far. I've made sure @replies don't change my status, so that helps. My bigger problem is stuff getting posted twice on FB, once from the status change and once from the FriendFeed. 8-{
- LJF Wolffe
I heard about a website called http://www.hellotxt.com through another IM'er and have only this morning signed up. It looks really good and you can update your status across heaps of different networks. Facebook, twitter, friendfeed, tumblr, and on and on...
- Scott Mackenzie
Has anyone else setup their website page on Facebook? I've started but have a lot of work to do on it, I think it could be good if I set up some groups that link to it
- Catherine
Just realized that the #30DC broadcast will be at 10am in my timezone. It is so bad, I'll be sitting in front of the computer yet unable to see the broadcast :( I'll try to get a glimpse of it while the boss isn't looking ;) Hope the show will be recorded and somebody saves the chat.
Is anyone saving the chats? Every time I've done Ctrl+A and Ctrl+C to try to copy & paste them, they just won't go into my clip-board :-(
- Isha (Marysia)
Marysia Kurowski, I was trying to do exactly the same thing, as I love all the banter that goes on, let me know if you find out (by the way do you know who elliot13 is?)
- Groobers
Elliot Web: were you Elliot13 on last night's chat? why do you ask, Groobers - did he have some good jokes? Heh, I'm the same person as Isha by the way - weird the way that FF shows our full names instead of our nicknames.
- Isha (Marysia)
No it's not that, just I was so busy trying to work out the copying thing that I missed him saying hello and I felt rather rude as by the time I said hi I think he had gone. Just wondering who was saying hello to me, that's all. I worked out that was you by the way (do I get some sort of prize?) and loved the stuff you sent to keep us all entertained. Thanks again
- Groobers
If you can't copy and paste you could always do a screen shot by pressing print screen (on a windows computer) and saving it in a photo editing program. Not really as pretty but at least you'll keep the information...
- Scott Mackenzie
No, Scott - that doesn't work - you can only see a few lines of chat at once.
- Isha (Marysia)
That's weird, I just tried to copy the chat in ustream and it worked... Maybe it just doesn't let you copy that many lines at once. (There wasn't much text there now...)
- Jorge Blanco
Yes - I got about 1 1/2 to 2 A4pages of chat - but that's only from 00:30 to 00:41 (that would be UK time = GMT)
- Isha (Marysia)
Oh Marysia thanks for the prize, just watched the first one and tears are literally pouring down my face an absolute classic love it, you are one classy lady thanks for sharing..
- Groobers
Marysia did I hear you say ff uses our, god forbid, REAL name? All this time I've been thinking it was using my user name and wondering why everybody was using their real names. Thank God I've been well behaved (which is probably they use our real names, ha). Just to confirm what name does it show right here ->
- Russ
In RTFF I see "Russ:" at the beginning; does that help?
- LJF Wolffe
If you highlight the entire chat area then right click and choose copy it works for me. I am using FireFox 3. In August they did have a thread in the 30DC forum for the chats that were copied. Warning - If you refresh, you will loose all text (in the chat box) prior to that when it pulls back up.
- Sheryl Loch
Lol Russ! Your nickname is russcooperdc and the name we see is Russ. I think if FF was displaying your nickname we'd kinda guess what your surname might be. Like some kind of knitwit I gave my full real name for "Name" when I created my FF account and now find that my full name is the one that FF displays instead of my nickname. How stupid is that?
- Isha (Marysia)
Sheryl, are you able to get the *whole* chat like that? Whenever I've tried to do it I've only been able to get a few minutes'-worth at a time. Anyone got any whole chats from any of the TV shows? I'd love to have any.
- Isha (Marysia)
Marysia, have you had any luck getting the chats yet? Here is a little prezzie for you (not the chats) but may make you smile http://www.youtube.com/watch...
- Groobers
I like the japanese version of that one. Of course it is only funny if you understand japanese though. If by some weird chance you do, check http://www.youtube.com/watch...
- Jorge Blanco
ROFL Groobers! - thank you - that was great fun!
- Isha (Marysia)
The live chats: so far I've found the chats for up to (and including) 14th August this year. Thanks to Sheryl Loch for the pointer, and to apoermandya (Adrian Poermandya) for posting them in the forum. They can be accessed here: http://www.thirtydaychallenge.com/forums...
- Isha (Marysia)
Hi all - anyone know if 30D strategy works with ordinary web pages rather than blogs? Worked like a dream for my blog - social bookmarking hasnt worked for my webstite! (Did all same sites!)
Hi s thomas, I used the 30 day challenge tricks on my website http://www.krmaa.com and they worked a treat, getting me ranked in Google at about 37 when I hit it pretty hard with the promotion. It died off and now appears to be non existent as I haven't kept it going. I think it takes longer because most sites besides blogs aren't set up for SEO as well. Keep at it and see how you go though because it's still worth doing. Add your site in here too so we can have a look...
- Scott Mackenzie
Thank you , I will keep plugging away then! You can see how blogs would stay up there better - theyre made for it - more like journals being updated all the time- as a customer I far prefer websites though as blog posts are boring and difficult to find and navigate to - decisions, decisions!
- Inspired Writing Research
An Idea would be to try and utilize a blog "with" your website then you can increase your chances of ranking better on the SERP's
- Ron"micronet"Harwood
Hi all. It's great looking in on the wealth of knowledge being passed on in here - you guys are proper good people! I have a pretty simple question - does anyone know of a reliable site to get the number of back links my blog currently has? I have tried a few with varying results. Thanks in advance.
Yes, exactly that. I have found a few sites from various forums but they all give varying results. If you know of an accurate (or as near as) site, that would be great. thanks.
- san
If I remember correctly, Google is blech on this; but if you use the same syntax in Yahoo (link:yoursite.tld), it gives a closer-to-accurate picture. I seem to remember other sites that give that info, but I don't remember them right now . . . sorry. 8-{
- LJF Wolffe
Thanks Wolffe, I'll give it a go... in the mean time, if anyone else has any input, I'm happy to receive it!
- san
Actually, just tried Yahoo again, and I have 2 inlinks to my site. I have submitted 5 articles from my blog to about 9 bookmarking sites per article over about 10 days... surely I should have more? Sorry for being slow if I'm missing something here!
- san
From those stats, so am I! I know there's a time delay on recent bookmarks, but that's ridiculous! I must be misremembering. Phooey, and sorry 'bout that. 8-b
- LJF Wolffe
No worries Wolffe, I'll wait and see what comes up in a few days. I have had better results from other sites - but only up to about 8 back links. I am using the recommended social bookmarking site from 30DC, maybe I'm not using that correctly!
- san
And this looks handy, too: http://www.searchenginegenie.com/yahoo-b... Seems to have quite a lot of tools listed on that page. And this is the Yahoo page I use http://short.to/4yd; it has another url already set up in it (that you can replace with your own url), just so that you can see what the results will look like.
- Isha (Marysia)
just another suggestion that may help, is if you have Market Samurai you can use it to check as well. Another thing i was told too, that your backlinks will only be counted when google crawls the site you got you backlink from. Which the social bookmarking sites would be crawled very often i imagine, but other blogs and forums you link to, may not be crawled so often, so it can take a while for them to show up. I use Samurai and the SEO plugin in flock to see mine. Hope this is of some help :))
- Tash
I use Market samurai too, just set " site: www.yoursite.com " as the keyword. You should win that ranking war... then check the SEO competition tab to view your backlinks.
- Scott Mackenzie
Thanks everyone for your help - especially th MS advice. I shall check again later!
- san
How do you all keep up with so many social networks. I am not only getting confused, but find it difficult to keep up with. Which one should I focus my time on?
Depends for what purpose: for promoting your blog, or for building your social network? If for both, you might like to focus on the former for a while?
- Isha (Marysia)
promoting my blog which is also a way to promote my business website. Social networking leads customers to both right? So I want to maximize my benefits from the social networks. But there are so many to follow and if you are not active in them you loose ground. twitter, twirl friendfeed, blogcatalog, bloglog, my head is spinning!
- Chris Dahl
Gosh, yes, I agree. When you've got a blog that's actually connected with your biz blog that's a toughie. I've been trying to do both too, and since I'm a bit of a gass-bag, guess which suffers... I too would love to have advice on this one, from more experienced marketers than me.
- Isha (Marysia)
Well then let's hope some of our more experienced marketers share their knowledge with us. As I spend way too much time and effort on this now. I need to get back to creating material for my website and creating quality posts for my blog. (which suffers sometimes)
- Chris Dahl
It's like an addiction, I am going to try and go cold turkey for a while and keep away from the twitter, it's so easy to get sidetracked, because it's fun and if you are like me and love "one-liners" and someone makes you laugh, your focus will be lost and the next time you look at the clock its time for the kids to come home from school and you are no further forward. I think the key...
- Groobers
I have a hard time, too -- so for the community thing I stick to FF, FaceBook, and Twitter (and I keep telling myself not to read stuff all the time, but just to keep up with my stream!); for the social bookmarking thing (Digg, SU, etc.) I tend to only use those occasionally -- and to send in 3 other entries for every one of my blog posts. Not spamming, in other words, but not living there either. I live here! (you lucky people . . .) 8-)
- LJF Wolffe
Wouldn't it be nice to have an assistant who would keep up with most of social networks for you, so you can concentrate on a couple of networks that you actually enjoy? I am dreaming of that :)...
- Rita
I've always found google reader's good for keeping up with what's going on in the world. But it would sure be nice to find some software that posted your entries to all the social sites for you... Friendfeed is great but a bit too easy to get stuck reading so much information about anything and everything.
- Scott Mackenzie
Dude, you might want to go edit the titles of your modules . . . there are, like, three in a row that say "Text/Write Module" in the middle of your text . . . sorry. 8-}
- LJF Wolffe
I have been using WPD, but this is my first blog in WP, so still getting use to everything, but I installed the wp-sticky addon, same one that my WPD blogs use, and it says on the post that it is 'sticky' yet it's not!! when I go to my blog, it is just displaying my posts in the most recent to oldest order, so the sticky function doesn't seem to be working. Any one know what could be wrong or another way around it? any help would be great :))
- Tash
Access your WP control panel at yourdomain.com/wp-admin with the username admin and the password you setup in WPD. Check out the plugins tab to see if the sticky plugin is activated (you can do this directly from WPD though). And go to Manage Post and click sticky.
- Jorge Blanco
thanks Jorge, but that is what I have done and it says it is sticky, but it is still isn't. The pluggin is activated and says it is sticky, but it just isn't. I just can't work it out. I wonder if there is some other pluggin or way of doing it?? but thanks for replying :))
- Tash
Hey Tash - don't know if this will work for you but have you gone into the WPD login and made the post sticky there? I had success making a post sticky from there. I didn't try it from the admin. I have been finding that some things work better from the WPD login and sometimes better in the Admin login. Don't really know the logic - may be worth a try???? Luck to ya!
- Elizabeth
yeah this one is in Wordpress, not Wordpress Direct, I wanted to see if i can do a wordpress blog and have it work just as well as the WPD setup. Just getting a little bit hard to keep paying all these subscriptions and still not making anything yet. I have the right plugin for the sticky feature, but it just isn't working. I just wasn't sure if maybe there was another pluggin that does the same kind of thing. thanks heaps everyone :))
- Tash
Tash, could it be a "broken theme"? I don't know if that's only a feature of WPD, since WPD is the only kind of WP I've used.
- Isha (Marysia)
Hi Tash, Is the version of Wordpress you are using the latest? Check if the Sticky plugin is compatible with that version. Some plugins haven't been updated to the latest version of WP yet and will not work, could be what is happening. Sticky is going to be built into the WP version that is coming, the 2.7 version, don't know how long that will be but should be soon.
- Carmel Baird
Thanks Marysia, I tried another theme and same thing, but it was worth a try ;)
- Tash
Thanks Carmel, I never thought of that, now I will have to look into that, thanks heaps :))
- Tash
Hey Tash, A very dodgy hack that I've been using to make something stay on the front is to create a new page and then copy all the content from your post to there and change the settings in the settings>reading>front page displays: section to show the static page that you just created. Not perfect but it worked for me at http://farastech.com
- Scott Mackenzie
I've had much more success with SocialMarker
- Bob Perry
Love social marker. Not that big a fan of only wire. Maybe because I'm a lazy control freak and really like to do it all myself but just can't be bothered going to each site individually...
- Scott Mackenzie
I was told by someone that we cannot put our website in this room. I thought that it was only like that in the 30dc forum? It is sometimes nice to have fresh eyes look at it for errors and stuff. ???
Although I've seen a couple of people criticise for "self-promotion," I have never heard of a rule like that, and I've seen a lot of people get good help and advice when they do. I say, go for it! 8-)
- LJF Wolffe
I've never seen anyone jumped on for that in this room, except for one person who spammed the room several times in about 4 hours. And even they weren't deleted. See the top 3 items here: http://friendfeed.com/search...
- Isha (Marysia)
If we can't put our website in here, how come Ed keeps doing it? I say go for it too. Now you've gone and made me want to look at it... What's the link?
- Scott Mackenzie
The only risk is that some other guy could run for the same key phrases you have. But if you don't have any problem with that just go for it!
- Nicolas Mendez
from twhirl
Life is all about self promotion, go ahead put it in. And while we are at it, check out my new project I am doing for some people right now. This is a brilliant fat-loss product that is just being launched http://www.osoeasy.info If anyone would like to do me a favour & critique this page I would be grateful. Thankyou!

2 Pronged Question - Anyone know where I can get a book published? And is it better to have a traditional Publishing house publish it over an Online Publisher like Lulu? To that end anyone had experience with Lulu? Are they any good? TIA Tim
I've got a friend who's had a few books published through lulu and he swears by them. Apparently very prompt service and good support. I guess it all depends on how many copies you think you'll sell? I hear traditional publishing can be pretty expensive.
- Scott Mackenzie
Lulu worked for my husband and me. It depends on how you plan to market them.
- Glenna
yeah mine isn't being logged by google yet
- IanBowland
Do you mean indexed? Takes a few days, how long has your site been up for?
- Seang-Lim Tan
nah, just found out that hostgator are doing some upgrading - which has caused problems with my blogs.... hopefully it's fixed soon
- besht
looks like hostgator was going through changing everyones cpanel to their custom one. Maybe that was it? I didn't notice I was at work all day but mine is with hostgator and seems to be fine now...

30DC Meet-Up planned for April 2009. There will be advanced topic presentations on internet marketing. Contact me for further information. argarcia1@elp.rr.com. - http://www.thirtydaychallenge.com/forums...
Dude, I have to thank you. I didn't know BattleBots was coming back! I love good, clean, wholesome destruction -- and amazing engineering! Yay!
- LJF Wolffe
Okay, my apologies, it was just my computer. I think I need a Mac...
- Scott Mackenzie
tee hee hee! Well, just because I have Bill Gates on my dartboard doesn't mean I'm giving up the OS and software I've used for 20 years, so I'm not gonna encourage that one . . .
- LJF Wolffe
Does anyone heard of or know of any social book marking or article reading clubs? The idea would be to really read each others articles and give true ratings of them
I think this is a good idea. Why not create a room on here or even a facebook group for people who are genuinely interested in doing this. Maybe needs to be a closed group but would alos need to be monitored as well. Invite me if you do create one.
- Wayne Brewin
I just set up a group on my social networking site http://www.krmaa.com where internet marketers can list their sites for bookmarking, talk about articles etc. if anyone's interested your free to join in. You'll have to register for the site (it's free and you only need a valid email address) and then join the internet marketing group. Just thought I'd throw it out there...
- Scott Mackenzie
30DC skills work on every site! I've built a site that isn't a blog, it's a goal setting social network experiment, but the 30DC tricks and tools are sure helping to bring in the visitors. They're also getting me indexed by google quick smart. Thanks ED and the gang! - http://www.krmaa.com
Am I the 1st person to sign up Scott?! - would be nice to be able to see something when I click on each section :-D But otherwise looks v. good. Have stumbled it, will put a goal in soon.
- Isha (Marysia)
Hey Marysia, i have to admit there are only a dozen people signed up at the moment. The more people that join the better it will get, but it's only about 8 days old. Most of the pages are customised for each person so I think what I'll do now is go and write up a page on how to personalise your page. I'll put the link in here once it's done. Thanks for the feedback and the stumble!
- Scott Mackenzie
Make sure you keep a close eye on it. I had to cancel a campaign because one of my keywords went to something crazy like $14 in a couple of hours! Cost me about $150 for one day on one keyword on a site that was all unique content. Apparently the better ranked your site the cheaper it is for you to get on the front page. You'd want to have a fantastic conversion rate at $3 a click...or really high margin
- Scott Mackenzie
Adwords was covered so lightly on 30DC that I was alittle surprised. This was my first 30DC but I've studied and have done adwords for 6 months and Perry Marshall's book is the #1 seller on the subject. But never have I heard of anyone paying $3.00 a click for something not proven to sell. 25 Cents is usually the starting point. If your keyword is $3.00 or $14.00 you will never make a dime and lose your house. Try to come up with adwords that are similar or more specific. Check out a free video just..
- Bob Perry
out for PPC Classroom. They are doing a new release next week but the free videos will help you a great deal in this department. goto: http://www.ppcclassroom.com/blog...
- Bob Perry
Tough one to cover in a comment...It's about relevance - Google rewards relevance. It starts with your keyword/phrase - Market Samurai should be able to help you find lower cost phrases in your niche - within the campaign, have one ad group for each keyword/phrase - split test two ads for each ad group - your keyword/phrase should appear at least once in the ad - the landing page should be optimized for the keyword/phrase too. That will help with relevancy and should decrease your cost-per-click.
- SteveH
Thanks for the help, it ended up pretty well, my max CPC was $3.10, but the clicks I got cost me about $1.77 on average, no one bought anything but it was a valuable lesson for me;)
- Elliot Webb
Elliot - if you need help later on, tweet me and/or leave a comment on my blog. I just tweaked my brother's AdWords campaign last month - his clicks are up by 135% - his impressions are up by 183% - his cost-per-click is down 44%...All figures based on 2007/2008 year-to date comparisons. Maybe I could help you too
- SteveH
