Ted, if you haven't dozed off- i'll have you know that the coastal winds tend to keep a lot of the storm systems at bay- if you're close enough to the water - a mile or 5 inland can make a big difference some days - and spot t/storms can be localized around here big time - for instance yesterday it rained (for a short period) at my house while i was at work 5 miles away getting no rain - only knew cuz the ground was wet when i went home for lunch... ok - it's really time for sleep now - g'nite FriendFeed

I usually read all the comments of something I'm interested in. I don't just read the top and bottom ones so I don't care where I come in. I comment on what I want to because I want to say something. It's nice if the original poster reads/responds to it, but not absolutely necessary. Most of the time the most fun/interaction comes from other commenters.

Anita: there are dozens of journalists and bloggers in jail. Amir took the iconic image of the protests and now is the iconic leader of those who are in jail. I hope I am able to shake his hand someday. He is a hero to me. It is why I carry my camera almost everywhere. Today I will write Amir on my Canon 5D. He is being held in the notorious Evin Prison in Tehran since his arrest on Saturday. His family received a phone call from him yesterday and they are hopeful of his safe return soon. God only knows what they are doing to him in that hell-hole. Pray for him.

HTML5 has yet to be finalized, whereas phone manufacturers have to get their wares out now, not when W3 deems it stable and mature enough for them to invest in a brand new parser/renderer (latest editor draft http://w3.org/html/wg/html5/ says out right: "Different parts of this specification are at different levels of maturity.") The Studio Edition drives have a 5 year warranty, which is PRICELESS. However, if you're going RAID striped, you run a huge risk of data loss. I had a 'dual disk' external once: one drive fails, both drives useless.

All I have to say is don't do Maxtor if you can avoid it. I'm actually surprised my two OneTouches are still alive, but I had a 250GB Maxtor which died and I have a pile of HDDs that died over the years that I decided to start wiping entirely -- only the Maxtors in the bunch do not spin up at all. I have no idea how I'm going to wipe my old data on those - maybe sledgehammer...

here in the netherlands, they don't even sell movies yet or tv shows, or you can't rent movies either... so that sux, no blu ray support.. As far as i know, macs with vlc or perian can play ts mpeg streams.... thats not the issue

In all fairness, there are 16Mbps connections available for Residential users now in India. The problem is they are fixed data limit (20 GB) and fairly expensive (~$60/mo). And 3G EVDO Data Cards with 3.1 Mbps are available as well but again, expensive ~$13/mo for 1GB, ~$25/mo for 10 GB.

250GB per month at a monthly price? I was earlier at 256Kbps to 2Mbps 1GB/monthly cap at $5/month. Now shifted to 256Kbps constant uncapped at $15/month.

Yuvi: Airtel is providing 16MBps for home, but it was a joke. 20GB cap on 16Mbps line is a joke. Even if you bit mistake hit download and it gets download before you can cancel, then you have wasted a lot from your allowed cake.

Manish, the speeds one gets on EVDO are very highly correlated to the signal strength. I have used BSNL EVDO and I consistently got upwards of 1Mbps.
