Is FriendFeed a cross between a wiki and blogging?
FriendFeed is a mix between the longest email thread ever and a takeout ordering service. I'll have the chow mien chicken... - Rafael Robayna
If I made an analogy.. I'd say FriendFeed is most like putting the NYSE trading floor in a library. - Phil Glockner
With the exception of scraping other sites to generate the first post of a thread I can't really see how FriendFeed is too different from usenet. (at least what usenet was when I was active on it) - awilliams
@awilliams agree. FF is cross between usenet of old and a reader. - Barbara K. Baker
Usenet! The True Usenet! - Igor The Troll יִצְחָק
Usenet is soooo 1993 ;-) - Ethan Klapper
There's nothing vaguely wiki about it since we're not constructing collaborative documents with version control. These rooms are a bit like Usenet though, topic based threaded discussion - which is actually very powerful. And with RSS too, and dynamic profiles. In which case we're going to need at least 200 subscribers so that 8 of us can keep the discussion going... - Andy Roberts
Andy have you edited Wikipedia? I have done it for 9 months, so FF is a wiki type of community! Actual I invited a few Wikipedians to join Igor The Troll. - Igor The Troll יִצְחָק
Yes Igor, I have edited several Wikipedia pages but I'm not part of the hierarchy there by any means. I run a few mediawiki based community sites of my own. I still don't understand how FF is like a wiki, but I suppose it's the potential for learning and relationships that matters more than the shape of the technology. Not sure the Wikipedians will hang around here very long if they don't get the chance to delete other people's work. - Andy Roberts
Yes it is a learning community that is built by consensus! And you are right about the "Delete" LOL - Igor The Troll יִצְחָק
Look at the FriendFeed entry for Yuvi's blog post (http://friendfeed.com/e...). There are some elements of wiki right there, in terms of design for Yuvi's new app which analyzes people's Likes. - Hutch Carpenter
These conversations are unique in a couple of ways. It is strictly topical: threads are initiated by a picture, a link, etc. Unlike other forums it is more difficult for the topic of the conversation to shift and to be redirected. I think the short maximum length restriction and the lack of paragraphs in comments keeps the comments short--kind of twittery. - Ming-Chih Kao
FriendFeed will be very popular because its a niche; it's a lot of things. - Ethan Klapper
i nominate rafael for comment of the day "FriendFeed is a mix between the longest email thread ever and a takeout ordering service. I'll have the chow mien chicken..." - jaybol
Like any good tool, FF is what you make of it! The users (us!) will decide and shape it! - Wil
e.g. The im@mojipage.com XMPP bot was created so that you can do twitter style chats without cluttering your main feed, and conversations stay within the room so it's easier to follow. - Wil
I think Forum 2.0 is more like it. - Muhammad Saleem
Interesting take on the Forum 2.0 I run a forum and I see the similarities! - Igor The Troll יִצְחָק
It's difficult to define FriendFeed as Wiki because length of posts is limited and you can't reorder messages later. But in some way, it could be. And yes, FF can replace blogging for quite many people in long run (at least lower the amount of small posts). - Daniel Schildt
