im teaching a class right now and im trying to show the value of social media and networking, care to comment?
Jorge, Social Media can definitely be useful. Obviously its uses vary depending on the context it is being used in :) - Matt Hooper
Hello class :) - Nir Ben Yona from twhirl
Hi Jorge - I don't know you, but our interests brought us into this conversation - thanks Social Media! - Steve Isaacs
Okay guys you're at the cutting edge right now, here on FriendFeed. The blog used to enable the conversation via comments, but this sucked. So Twitter then enabled conversation in real-time, but also sucked because the conversation stream couldn't be tracked easily. But now friendfeed enables conversations, real-time threaded topics, and also sharing of media, social bookmarking, links and more. So this is where its at, and this is where we are all best connected. We can communicate better and faster here. - john conroy

Well said, John. - Steve Isaacs
My students are fairly resistant to SM though I plan to inflict it upon them yet again this year. Any suggestions for getting them excited about micro-blogging and social sharing would be appreciated. I will say that I've learned so much participating on FFd, Digg, Plurk, etc. that I otherwise wouldn't have encountered. THANK YOU! - Kimberly J
maybe start with explaining them how they can use networking to cheat within the classes.. than they might get really interested ;) Good luck with the project.. - Jaap Willem
Here is a link to the social web technologies class blog at UMBC http://socialwebtechnologies.blogspot.com/ I would say starting a group class blog is a great idea -- get your students on friendfeed, flickr, twitter and stuff! They will love it! - FallStreet
How about a group bookmarking network using delicious or diigo so you can find online reading resources for each other, tag them, make notes etc. How about creating a wiki on a subject together. Collaborative learning anyone? Watch Mike Wesch's portal to media literacy for some great education ideas using social media: http://www.youtube.com/watch... - Tom Beardshaw
