I can't even write anymore. It's like chicken scratch.
- Sarah Perez
It's been some time since I have experienced the "southpaw smudge" also.
- mace
I have no idea what you are talking about... ok, googled it.. heh.. makes sense now :)
- Socom
finally a name for this nasty condition I have suffered all my life... the only downside to being left-handed.
- Stewart Rogers
This is why the WACOM tablets don't work for me
- Fleagle
Ugh. Eraser mates were the worst pens every for lefties.
- Dylan McIntosh
How do you smudge using a Wacom tablet?
- Rodfather
damn that 1%, cheques & birthday cards (and in v.b.'s case, autographs)
- Pierre Houston
Sorry, I should clarify: No, the WACOM didn't work for me as a lefty because the way I wrote had my palm resiting on the tablet, which made the WACOM go all wonky on me.
- Fleagle
that happens with right handed too.. you have to learn to write with nothing touching the tablet but the pen, not so fun :)
- Socom
In college I retrained myself to write. I used to have a death grip on the writing instrument and my hand position (while not pretending to be right handed) put my knuckle in position to be smudged. Watch how someone who writes well holds the pen, then consider your position. Oh, and write your parents on paper once a week to practice. They will love it.
- Byron Servies
Ugh! So annoying, yes. That's why the earlier WACOM tables were so lame for us lefties. The newer ones are supposedly better, but I haven't tried them.
- Fleagle
How is it over-the-top? Is the kindle iphone app so vastly superior to the other ones mentioned in the article? (I wouldn't know, it's not available in Canada :\ )
- Jasmin Patry
Yes. The difference between reading on the iPhone screen vs. the Kindle is immense. Having done both, I'm shocked that someone could say that with a straight face. EDIT: OK, I'm a dumbass, this is not what the title says at all.
- Veronica
Kindle v. iPhone - I don't know who to route (root?) for when pretentious is fighting pretentious.
- Matthew DeVries
I don't think loving a piece of technology makes it automatically pretentious. Bit negative.
- Veronica
Books are so 2nd millennium anyway...
- Jason Wong
Not ducking my retribution Veronica, but I'm late for leaving work, sorry if I scratched too hard. I'll promise to take what ever knocks I get for it with grace when I get home late tonight.
- Matthew DeVries
I would like to say for the record.. I love my Kindle2!
- Socom
Socom: cool I like to get one for my mom, she reads alot, but i just wondering how easy would it be for 71 year old to read? I never saw one in person.
- Fee501st
Scrolling left to right and back while reading is one of the most tedious experiences on the planet.
- Bernie Goldbach
I dont know for everyone, I find it very easy to read. Being able to change the font is easy as well. I think the hardest part for her would be the selecting of books and things.. as that uses the little menu thinkpad type button
- Socom
Oh for the love of god, yes. My iPhone is barely usable because every time I restore from a backup it dumps all my apps in there, and doesn't even care what screens they're on. They could even let you rate your apps and then sort by rating. Insertion sorts are a pain in the ass with a touchscreen across multiple virtual screens.
- Kevin Fox
I was expecting there to be something just like this when I first got my iPhone (just a few months ago), and I was kinda shocked that it wasn't there.
- Jasmin Patry
Oh how I wish this was real... 9 screens almost full its killing me
- Socom
Nice. While we're at it, folders would be nice (even if they were just shortcuts to other screens). Flicking screens is fun (for a while...)
- Alex Gawley
You know, its funny, but almost every female I know hates those commercials.. creeps them out, however almost all the guys think its cool.. lol
- Socom
Yeah, her vacant crooked smile, can't stand it, then the camera starts to pan and she's missing the back of her skull - I mean there's very little to like in those opening moments!
- Marko Bon
from fftogo
Don't tell Felicia Day but the girl kind of reminds me of her.
- Akiva Moskovitz
That girl reminds me much more of Shelley Duvall.
- David Wilson
I never watch TV so I never saw it yet. I am going to have to go to youtube to see if its there
- Andy Breeding
There was one like that for Guitar Hero, too. Or Rock Band? I forget. Anyway, yeah, the whole concept is creeptastic.
- Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
@david, is Shelly Duval the actress from Annie Hall and who played Olive Oil from Popeye? Because then Yes, absolutely.
- Marko Bon
from fftogo
Yeah she is. She was also Jack Nicholson's wife in The Shining.
- David Wilson
You all probably think cows with doors are creepy too.. sad.. so very very sad (and if you are interested in being creeped out.. do a Google image search for Fistulated Cows, but don't say I didn't warn you).. wow I went a little off topic with this one.
- Socom
Yeah, I don't think I realized it was an Xbox ad before I fast forwarded! But yes, it's definitely the smile that creeps me out the most.
- Veronica
the Rock Band 2 commercial is the same way, I have no idea who thought that was a great way to show off the experience. it is not the same thing as those Wii commercials that focus more on the faces of people playing than the game itself, although I'm sure in a meeting or focus group somewhere someone thought it did. It's just creepy.
- Richard Lawler
I'm enjoying Camino so far, but it has one tiny and frustrating bug that's been driving me batty. When I hit "R" to reply to email within Gmail, it doesn't put the cursor in the text field! I'm so used to it, that I continue typing and end up muting or deleting the conversation via hotkeys.
I'm giving Camino 24 more hours. If by then I don't feel "at home" I'm back to Safari. I found that Camino doesn't render well some pages I use a lot. And the Gmail buttons look ugly, and the Gmail foreign language corrector doesn't work...
- Tunico Lage
Sorry to hear about the problems. Of course, everybody has their own unique way of browsing. For me, Camino is my main browser. I use FF at times when I need the plugins, but I have to say that Camino gets 60% of my time.
- Fleagle
Its strange, I use Chrome only at work.. and FF only at home.. yes, I know, I am strange...
- Socom
V: do try Webkit's nightly releases? r38852 is impressive with rendering and javascript speed so far. Compared to Camino's Gecko and SpiderMonkey engines, latest Webkit or FF 3.1 should be much faster with a smaller memory footprint (assuming no mem leaks :P)
- Berk D. Demir
Take a look at the Webkit vs Firefox 3.1 benchmark. People are reporting other browser results too. IE 7 is pathetic :) http://friendfeed.com/e...
- Berk D. Demir
Mayhaps they were lonely.. first you kick them when you unsubscribe, then you kick them a gain when you say I never asked for it in the first place, and after alllll that.. now you wont even let them say goodbye.. so cruel
- Socom
I'm finally getting over mine, (full bronchial works, 5 weeks of hell) Be happy you live in a more temperate clime... but you've been gallivanting around the world now, haven't you? :)
- Krash Coarse
Apparently you did not take my advice.. more alcohol
- Socom
I hear you - I had a cough for about 6 weeks. It's finally gone.
- Jen (SquirrelGirl)
yeah, the traveling isn't helping! lucky we're having thanksgiving at home, so i'll have a 4 day break :)
- Veronica
well, it never leaves me, so be glad you will be off in one month :P
- Dan V
Words don't express what a miracle that appeared as. That was beautiful. Reminds me how small we are in the universe. How blessedly small.
- Tinu Abayomi-Paul
i watched people flock around a book store 8 hours before it went on sale and couldn't believe my eyes with the 300+ geek queuing midnight in front of city's popular bookstore. (that can be a norm in US but pretty weird for a weak geek population of Ankara/Turkey)
- Berk D. Demir
I've been dying to join my friend's guild. I'm afraid to commit to it. Who has the time??
- Mickipedia
I liked Borean Tundra as a level 68 starting area over Howling Fjord but Utgarde and Nexus are a bit of a toss up.
- Mattb4rd
Micki... I don't have the time. I MAKE the time! ;)
- Veronica
Emm, don't know, think I will just stick to Ikariam
- Socom
@Mattb4rd I dunno, I think I like Fjord better.. BT is such a HUGE area, it reminds me of Barrens a little too much.
- Haggis (Sean Loyless)
It's actually 32 copies per second, 1944 per minute
- Veronica
Coincedentally, 2.8 million Warhammer Online trial accounts were cancelled roughly the same time.

You were kidding? you cant take that back.. you said you were ready for the aliens to come get you.. no stopping them now!
- Socom
it's very easy to understand whether it's interference or bad grounding. cover the backside of speaker with enough aluminum foil, tape it to secure and listen again. a misbehaving chinese made cordless phone in the neighborhood can cause totally annoying amount of interference. if not, blame PG&E or wait for the arrival of aliens.
- Berk D. Demir
Ya, like the mountains one changes which mountain range you see, and the one I use changes the color pallet of the erm.. water? really not sure what mine is.. lol
- Socom
So.. my theme (had to go look it up) also seems to change based on the time of day, last night it was all dark and scary (as scary as water can be).. this morning.. not so much.. oh my theme is Phantasea
- Socom
I wish I could have themes. Me and my IE6 life.
- Great Scott!
Yes. LOL - I went for the graffiti gmail theme - but like slick as well.
- Tony
Anything theme other than "ASCII Terminal" is wussy - only "Punch Card" could be geekier.
- John Craft
Ya, I am with you, I just delete them.. never even bother to read what it is about.. figure if its really important I will see it on other news sources.
- Socom
