OK, here's some better statistics, which imply that the payments DIRECT to the performers (or labels) are 10 TIMES HIGHER than the royalty payout that Lady Gaga Got in that last article... that's a bit better... but also that indies may be making MORE money, due to some possible deal that Spotify has done with the majors, in exchange for selling VERY cheap stock in the company to them, to pay a lower rate (probably for a fixed term or until the company becomes 'profitable')...
