Newcastle Service Design Jam 2012 www.globalservicejam.org one weekend, just 48 hours...to design a brand new service. Who? What? Why? When? On 24th February, people interested in service design and customer experience will Newcastle to take part in an event taking place in cities all over the world! We hope to have designers from all disciplines, students, academics, business people, and customers. In a spirit of experimentation, innovation, co-operation and friendly competition, teams will have less than 48 hours to develop and prototype completely new services inspired by a shared theme. County Durham Development Company is delighted to welcome a NASA astronaut back to County Durham following the successful visit of the crew of space shuttle mission STS 132 in June 2010. Colonel Ron Garan was selected by NASA in 2000 following a successful career in the US Airforce. In April 2006, he became an aquanaut through his participation in NASA Extreme Environment Mission Operations, an exploration research mission held in Aquarius, the world’s only undersea research laboratory. In 2008, he took to the skies on shuttle mission STS124 and in 2011 was posted to the International Space Station. He participated in the last space-shuttle-based spacewalk during the STS-135 mission and has logged more than 178 days in space and 27 hours and 3 minutes of EVA in four spacewalks.
