Hi, polish room! I'm useless with polish so I learned to do UV gel. Gives you time to get it right, but mostly it *does* dry (polish never does!) and so thick and solid, I'm no longer breaking my nails all the time. This is LeChat Nobility Gala Ball aka "is it pink or purple?"
obviously I didnt learn that out of the blue. Years ago when living in SE England I found a nail studio which did Biosculpture gel. I went from having nails that didnt keep polish and broke all the time to polish that lasted weeks (obviously) and nails that just grew and grew. Then I moved 500 miles away and none of the studios I tried were any good. They either used used products that didnt work for me (I'm not very careful, bang my hands/nails all the time and most gels, it seems, will show cracks) or they did a very bad job compared to what Sam had. I figured I could do at least as bad as they could, so did my research and now I do them myself most of the time.

there was a discussion back then 2008? 2009? on FF but it's long vanished

I use LeChat (mostly the nobility range) as my research showed they were a good choice for these annoying clients who keep breaking or chipping their nails through being careless (yup, that's me). Find it easier to get right than with polish, especially since polish just never dried well on me. Nowadays I know a studio where the lady knows what she is doing, so now and then when I am...

Aah. Checked your page just in case you'd posted a new picture, and there he is! Laura, Peter is absolutely adorable. What about a photo-a-day project for his first year? (After all, what *else* do you have to do?!)

[Verbose Aside:] Last night on my walk I went to a local spot that is a bunch of shops in a converted Uniroyal factory. They've kept a lot of the 'factory motif' in the corridors, including a couple of heavy duty truck scales that are still 'working.' Against my better judgement, I stepped onto one and waited as the needle swung like a pendulum across the huge circular dial...

I feel kinda sorry for Emily. Being the second child, she gets lugged around to school drop-off and pick-up, even on wet, windy days like this. I rarely took Josiah out in this kind of weather when he was Emily's age.
Well, if it works anything like it did for my family, the 2nd kid will actually have it easier in most ways. The first kid has the tougher rules and usually breaks the waves for the following kids. So it'll even out.

That's a good point. We're already more relaxed with Emily. Though Josiah is allowed to get married (when he's 40). Emily is going to be a nun.

Plus there's something to say for getting out of the house every once and a while.

Know when you have a crapload of stuff that needs doing, but your head is such a mess you don't know where to start and just want to curl up in a ball and disappear? Yeah, that.
That was my plan this weekend...haven't started yet :|
- Tamara
Aaaaand finished! Tamara, don't be hard on yourself if you don't get to it. There's always next weekend. ;)

My motto "if in doubt, throw it out" has served me well over the years.

I am being ruthless this year about throwing out old stuff. I've been amassing and collecting STUFF for so long, it's overwhelming me. Now, I am thinking about George Carlin's "Stuff" comedy bit. :)

Thanks! I'm so totally OCD about this stuff... I spend a lot of time thinking, "I just need ____ and this room will be PERFECT..."
- teleken
I am a far cry from that, but moving somewhat in that direction, I think.

This is my office/"studio" (insert pretentious artist/musician reference here) so it's challenging to pop together a room for both that doesn't look like a garage sale.

Considering a month ago I almost drowned on my second lap at the Celeland Pool and barely made it 200m, my triumphant return is most triumphant.

super glad I archived all her flickr photos locally before they started slowly disappearing from the photostream. super sad I cannot share those missing photos which pop up on my desktop background now and then and beg to be shared.
My "godmother" passed away last night. She'd been very ill, so I'm glad she's not hurting anymore, but my heart is broken. She was there for me when my own mother wasn't. She taught me how to cook. She'd beaten cancer twice, never had it particularly easy; she showed me that no matter how bad things were, there was always love and joy in life.
I'm praying for my sisters Shelley and Anika, they moved away years ago and I can't go to the funeral, but I'm glad they both have loving, supportive men in their lives to stand with them. RIP Marva Jackson, you will be greatly missed.

She sure was awesome. She taught me so much about life, she's a big part of who I grew up to be. Thank you everyone, please keep Shelley & Anika in your prayers too, they are a very close family & even tho this was expected, they're taking it hard.

I'm so sorry to hear this. Having just lost my grandfather, who was also suffering at the end, I know how conflicting it can feel when they pass. My thoughts are with you and your family. **hugs**

When I first came on to ff today, this is what I saw at the top of the feed. As I leave, it is at the top again. Thus, I both start and end the day smiling.
