First half an hour was fantastic. You enter an exciting world, good guidance on what to do in well localized mini missions. But then the kids entered into a adventure to sort adenine, guanine, cytosine and thymine towards some messenger rna or so. Clearly an adventure not aligned and not localized at all (all text plain English). Feed forward to tonight. Now the kids (8 and 10 years old)...

can't find the adventure menu, looks like installation has not the desired effect, calling EA helpdesk
- Lode Nachtergaele
OK, mistery solved, you have to select another executable called "Spore Galactic Adventures" (Spore Ruimteavonturen in dutch) instead of Spore (that is where the shortcut in the dock is pointing to)
- Lode Nachtergaele
Via Offworld: "Taking his original skeletal creations one logical leap further, Aaron Meyers has used the Spore API and ARToolKit to produce augmented reality versions of the day's top 100 Spore creatures, or simply step through the gallery one by one in your browser via the basic Flash visualizer."

I'm trying to make it to the center, but I can't make the jump and the Grox keep nailing me down. I suppose what is most frustrating is that every angle I seem to take won't let me jump past a certain point always leaving the center elusively out of reach.
- Ken Stewart | ChangeForge
There are many dead-end paths to the center of the galaxy: you have to back out and try a different path. It is extremely hard (impossible?) to get to the center of the galaxy without allying with the Grox (which will piss off everyone else).
- Mark Trapp
I don't even have the option to anymore... that sucks... and yes there are many dead end paths. Once I get so far down the road of trying, I can't even get back out... star hopping becomes a game of chance the closer I get too. That is rather frustrating.
- Ken Stewart | ChangeForge
I don't know if there is anything you can do that'll prevent the Grox from allying with you for the rest of the game, but you do have to do a lot to get them to like you. Check out: http://www.gamefaqs.com/compute...
- Mark Trapp
that's what I was afraid of... I made them very angry and getting them back on the friendly side isn't easy and has some bad consequences anyway... so it looks like I'm off to punch a hole!

I just joined the Spore bandwagon. Although late to the game, I now see why I resisted the temptation to buy the game on suspicions of misplacing time quite frequently ;-)
"Adventures is way more than just slapped-on content or a single new feature; you really have to play it to even get a feel of just how much is going on."

"Walking upright on two legs for the first time can be a challenging business. Some creatures are better adapted to it than others. This is not one of them." I had this creature in my game the other day. It was hilarious.
- Alan Le
I wish Spore had a God-mode where I can just sit back and watch the creatures I create survive and fend for themselves. I get to drop in Rogue and Epics creatures to see how they react. Or I could put a social creature surrounded by all aggressive creatures to see the results.
From BBC News: "Video game maker Electronic Arts has loosened copyright protection for the newest release of its game Spore. Released earlier in the month, the game received a flurry of complaints about a restriction that meant the game could only be registered to three computers. That restriction has now been raised to five computers, which the company says should account for all legitimate uses."

Spore update: Have been really digging it - a really interesting game so far, but it's feeling a little directionless currently on creature stage: can't seem to make friends OR kill anybody right now, in a loop of trying and failing and dying. Blurg.
If you want to be social, immediately evolve a singing mouth. The nests around your first nest are all easily impressed by singing. Then get dancing, and so on. You'll also want to evolve parts that give better singing/dancing/pose/charm as well, but you won't have enough evolution points for that at first.
- Mark Trapp
I finally got through creature stage, but I was constantly wondering "am I doing this right" - lots of trying to make friends or defeat foes, and not having enough stuff to do either very well. It got frustrating and not too fun. Looking forward to Tribal stage, but wondered where the issue was...
- Steve Isaacs
With Sims, it's always pretty clear how you level up your experience. With Spore, I wasn't quite sure.
- Steve Isaacs
Mark - also, in the midst of my evolution I got then lost the pose functionality - now I cant find how to get it back! Advice?
- Steve Isaacs
Steve, you get pose through graspers/hands: most of your hands should have some level of Pose.
- Mark Trapp
It's easier to specialize than try both-- pick parts with high biting, charging, poison if you want to kill and high singing, dancing, posing, and charming if you want to be nice. Value the rating of the part over aesthetics-- you can always change it back out before the tribe stage.
- Shannon Jiménez
The other thing is that ratings don't stack: if you have a part with 3 pose and another part with 4 pose, it doesn't equal 7 pose, it's 4. The part with 3 pose is superfluous and can be sold for evolution points.
- Mark Trapp
Ahh thanks, all - I guess I was trying to have a Creature of all trades...
- Steve Isaacs
You can, later in the creature stage, but you'll find yourself outgunned or outplayed quickly if you don't focus on social or combat exclusively at first. Try to at least get a 2 rating in all four of the categories (so you have options), then see how you fare. You can impress/extinct nearly every creature near your first nest with just the basic social/combat attributes (but you need them all).
- Mark Trapp
Thanks for the tips - last night's session was much more fun and productive...

"Spore’s creators took a great deal of time developing a framework where users can create a wide variety of life-like organisms, vehicles, and planets without designing and animating them individually. Wright says in an interview with Popular Science “The art staff is very unusual in that most of them do some level of programming. The team is unusual in a number of factors because we’re doing this all procedurally…you can easily send anything you’ve made in Spore down to a cellphone, it’s just a matter of reconstituting it at that resolution. Our creatures should be compressible down to about 3K each, and they’re one of the largest pieces of content.”"

The display Evolution points A / B is confusing. B is your total, cumulative points for all levels you've completed. So don't worry if you see 0 / 1, 0 / 2, 0 / 3, 1 / 4, 0 / 4, 0 / 4, 1 / 5, 0 / 5.. that's how it will look like, B will always either stay the same or go up, and A will be most of the time 0 and sometimes 1. I think you will roughly get the same progress always regardless of what you do.

http://www.spore.com/view... The automatic upload of all incarnations of my creatures has gobbed everything up, IMO. The older creatures made with creature creator are better. Also, I've found the thumbnail of my buildings often shows the back, even though I swear I keep the default orientation. Sigh...
- Shannon Jiménez
http://www.spore.com/view... - i raced through as a carnivore. more function than form :p. i'm going to start over and try to set a theme.
- Rodfather
I raced through as a carnivore the first time too. Then I decided to try it as an herbivore. Guess now I should try omnivore...
- Shannon Jiménez
http://www.spore.com/view... -- played once with my 3-year-old as an herbivore but we're still in the creature phase, and once by myself as a carnivore, just entering space phase.

trying to get subscribed with spore but still not succeeded :-(

Same problem as with Creature Creator on Mac. It locks up in full screen mode, has to be killed remotely because i can't tab out and then completely screws my displays. EA is definitely no Blizzard.
Locks up constantly on exit. Wonderful QA EA. Hurray for a horrible first impression.

"EA is definitely no Blizzard.": This bears constant repeating.

Spore runs fine on my Imac running leopard, only registration was/is a problem
- Lode Nachtergaele
game works just fine for me on my iMac and MBP
- timepilot
The problem turned out to be audio. Spore doesn't appear to properly handle audio. It must be trying to access the device directly instead of going through the OS. I have to actually set my system audio to one of the 'Built-in' output devices for the game to run. Kinda sucks. My machine is an digital audio workstation so i use a high-end external audio interface to drive my speakers. Spore is the first app to have a problem.

What do you mean by average? My laptop is a couple years old so it's not top-of-the-line new, but it's not horrible either. 2.33 GHz, 2 GB RAM. Running Vista. Spore works fine, though I find it crashes occasionally if I don't close all other programs.
- Shannon Jiménez
Well mine has ADM 64 x2 Dual Core 1.70 GHz, 4GB of RAM and chip based Nividia Graphics (thats what I'm mainly worried about).
