"With all the hype, I wanted to see if the barefoot category is truly an improvement over either the waffled trainers so many runners have been wearing since the 70s or the bare naked feet humans have been running in for millions of years. I tested three different of the most popular models on the market: The Vibram FiveFingers, The Nike Free and the New Balance 100."

I was shopping around for some a couple weeks ago. At least to try. But the thing about saying "humans have run barefoot for centuries" is that you're forgetting one thing: humans have been running on paved roads for a little over a century now. Humans, in general, have *not* been running barefooted on concrete and pavement. I wonder if the foot can take it without a shock absorber...

I just got them 2 weeks ago. Love them. And yes your feet can take the concrete pavement. People run marathons in them all the time. If you haven't done any type of barefoot running before, there is a week or 2 transition period... my calves are still getting a little sore, but they are getting better (supposed to reduce milage, which I didn't). birthdayshoes.com is a good resource for VFF's. (and the looks you get from people are great! haha)

I want a pair as well - I don't plan to run at first, but I do so much better running barefoot style (chronic stress fracture in my foot), but that will have to wait until after the holidays.
- Jennifer Dittrich
Yea, I wear them everywhere, not just running. I am currently looking at getting another pair, too!
- Fox
One of my best friends loves her Vibrams for walking around. (doesn't run in them). As for the pavement: people do run on concrete, but it is best to find softer surfaces to avoid injuries. Numerous studies (including a long-term one I am a part of) have shown concrete to be the worst surface to run on a regular bases. (worse that grass, dirt, woodchips, treadmill, asphalt, sand and others)

I am feeling extremely sluggish today - I think it has something to do with that giant pizza from last night and the copious handfuls of almonds I've been scarfing all morning. Edit: Pulled out a 1 mi walk with 2x6 pullups after lunch.

Back to cycling outside (tons of traffic :( - bugs me - but leading bike trip in Italy in a month - so time to ride :) And as always, my short, but effective, weight workout.

today was one of those days where I wasn't feeling it, and just sucked it up and did it anyway
- William Harryman
What's up, William? Bored, tired, sick, hungry, stressed?
- Daniel J. Pritchett
I think I was hungry - was feeling like my blood sugar crashed after the first superset - but I did it and feel better now that I have a protein shake in me
- William Harryman
That's not so bad then. For me it's usually lack of sleep.
- Daniel J. Pritchett
hey Daniel - looks like you have upper your pull-ups :)
- SportyGeek Adj.
I did, just a little! Thanks everyone for the advice. I'm working on packing more sets into the day and it seems to be paying off bit by bit. Back when I was doing 1-3 sets to failure at night it just wasn't working for me. I have been better about upping my protein intake too.

Do you think that people would be less healthy and more overweight or more healthy and skinnier if all food was FREE? Would people buy a lot more [previously] expensive items like seafood and eat that more often or would people buy more junk? Or would nothing change?
I would eat much as I do now, maybe a little more sushi and sashimi :)
- William Harryman
Personally, I would STOCK UP on fish and shrimp and scallops and all that good stuff. I'd eat so much fish I would probably grow gills. That and good steak. I eat healthy now but I can't afford all that good stuff that much, I'm just 1 year out of college. :)
- Chris Nunz
Personally, it would be about the same except I would probably eat more organic foods. I would hope ppl would eat more fresh and whole foods - taking away the excuse for many ppl for not buying them. How great would it be if there was no more hunger anywhere in the world... ! :)
- SportyGeek Adj.
Much better, it looks very natural. Did she cut it or just color it?
- Admiral Anika
She colored it and just cut a little bit because she wants my hair to grow. Next time I go back, I am getting extensions (the ones I can clip in and out)
- Shevonne
Shevonne, You really should parlay your talent and obvious movie star good looks into a role in Dan Brown's Washington, D.C. based next film. "The Solomon Key." Just saying :)
- Eric Logan
If you take advantage of this offer right now, not only will I give you 20 lbs, I'll throw in another 20 lbs at no addentional charge to you!
- Akiva Moskovitz
@dcfemella / Shevonne, you need to grab "shevonne" as a username on a few more high PR social sites, and SEO them as well as your existing properties. Own all 10 spots :) You can probably even start a Wikipedia entry about yourself if you are so inclined.. if you do, and SEO it a little bit, the stub for that actress will be nowhere.
- Alex Schleber
@Alex You're right. I don't think I would ever start a Wikipedia page about me. I wouldn't even know where to begin. =D

Anyone looking for a winter marathon that is flat and warm in Dec. - come join me for one in Palm Beach this Dec. Or if you live in Fl., the 1/2 is a good training run for Disney in Jan.

I start next Friday and able to work from home for the majority of the time. It's an admin role for 3 months but it's better than nothing, which is all I have now. :-) And back to the previous company I worked with doing the task I did several years ago - so in my comfort zone. Thank goodness, such a relief! :-D
- Kol Tregaskes
I'll be keeping an eye out for another role in 3 months but glad to have something after such a long time and so much searching. And in the end the job comes through my previous work, i.e. of word of mouth. The best way, by far, to get work. ;-)
- Kol Tregaskes
Thanks, Tina, Michelle. Woot indeed. :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
oh wow! Awesome! Awesome! Awesome! This is so great! I'm overjoyed for you... it couldn't happen to a nicer or more deserving guy. Maybe it will turn into something longer term with increased responsibility? Now all you have to do is post a PICTURE of you doing your new thing. ;-)
- Jim Addz No Value
Jandy, yeah but hopefully next week's activities might ease things if I'm out of work again but that's another story for then. ;-)
- Kol Tregaskes
Congratulations Kol. You worked really hard for it, you totally deserve that. Hey, see if your office lets you use bit of friendfeed during work time ;-)
- mridul
mridul, thank you. I'll be at home but won't have any time during the day for anything other than work. It really is a bum-on-sit role admin role.
- Kol Tregaskes
Thank you, Susan, Caroline, James, Fikisha, Simon, directeur, Dee, LAN, Oguz, Bindu, JA, Carlos, Rah (I'm sure your announcement is not far off), Chaz, Charlie, Timothy, Sporty, Sajida, Jeremy and Laura. Gosh, thank you everyone! Hope I didn't miss anyone there? :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
Congrats! I'm glad to see companies are still hiring. I'm still looking, but this is encouraging!
- Danielle Closs
Congrats!! :) I'd have commented earlier but my only net access is via iPhone and I can't stomach the slowness enough to be checking up on ff as much as I used to.
- alphaxion

Danielle, thank you. It's an urgent requirement and only for 3 months but I'm not complaining. :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
Mitchell, it will be but I have a long wait, I get paid a month after my invoice is put in and that's a month away. So at least a 2 month wait! :-(
- Kol Tregaskes
at the very least - could work on other income producers in the time - long time to wait but if the money is worth it, [correction sent to wrong one]
- Ray Marr aka Knatchwa

Raymond, much easier said than done. It's worth the wait.

Because if it's in print, it must be true... wait a minute, I think I have an out... just stamp the invitations "source: New York Post"

Congratulations, my man! As Lou Reed might say...it's the beginning of a great adventure. Or maybe it was indenture. Lemme go check...

As it gets closer ... Remember ... you still have time !!! (Just kidding :)
- Charlie Anzman
LOL, yes Robert is invited...he's one of the groomsmen. And thanks everyone for your congratulations. :)
- Alex Scoble
@Derrick & Shevonne, exactly what I don't like about it too. Too hot and way too many ppl with pools of sweat ... :(
- SportyGeek Adj.
can't take the heat - feel like passing out as soon as I get through the door
- William Harryman
I did it regularly and enjoyed it for a couple of months. I ended up straining an internal oblique - never went back.
- BEX
I'm not sure what kind of yoga I do for p90x, but it hurts. There are also some balancing poses. It feels kinda good after the fact, though.
- Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
LOL ... good job trying it though. I did it for 7 months straight but have taken a break. You should try power yoga - Rahsheen, I think that is what you do for p90x. Also look into hatha and vinyasa as well. Good stretching is good for you.
- Amani
I *LOVE* how I feel after yoga. I need to get back into it. Feeling too fat to get into my poses though. That made me LOL and feel :( at the same time.
- Derrick
you could always do the 30-day challenge. Guaranteed flexibility and weight loss.
- Amani
from IM
What is this you speak of, Amani? I did the most *basic* yoga class and I was pouring sweat and sore for the next day. And this was maybe 18 mos. ago.
- Derrick
bikram has a challenge where you go to bikram for 30 days in a row and it is called the 30 day challenge. They say if you can complete this , it is a tremendous accomplishment and does just as much for the mind and spirit as it does for your body.
- Amani
from IM
Oof, bikram is dos muchos. I'd be happy if I could just get back to my basic class maybe twice a week. I'm making a priority. I really can't explain how much it did for me, mind and soul, in addition to body.
- Derrick
i'd probably pass the hell out and hit my head on the way down. this kind of yoga is humbling. plus i sweat like a mutha
- Cee Bee
one of my lifes most humbling experiences was going to bikram. Time for me to try some new types before i fully commit to 6 more months.
