Ever since I got my first Mac a few years ago, I was always in a hunt looking for an application which would allow me to design quality websites, but without the cost of an application like DreamWeaver. - Spencer Scott
It's been rumored for a while now, and this week at E3, an Electronic Arts executive has confirmed it: KotOR is going massive, multiplayer, and online. Could this be the one to beat World of Warcraft? - Spencer Scott
But doesn't get exciting until mobile devices are included - or are they already in the US? - mattpovey
so far its only Vista and XP, but mobile devices will be added in the future. Starting with the Windows Mobile platform first. I bet if you hack away at it now you can get it to work. If i can hit my corporate servers from my current phone (8525), there is no reason why a simple implementation of this would not work now. - Carlos Ayala
I was mildly disappointed it doesn't yet have a MAC version as I am having some problems with Foldershare there and was hoping this would be a good replacement. - Robert Gable
Robert - it blows Foldershare out of the water, I wouldn't be surprised to see Foldershare discontinued, actually. Mac should be coming really soon now - I've already seen video of it running on a Mac - Sarah Perez
While I really like Mesh, I hope Foldershare does not go away. The other day foldershare came in handy when I was at a client site and needed a doc from desktop that was in a folder that was not a part of the mesh. In addition I didn't want to remote in to get it either. Mesh is great and I am imprewssed by it but at least I can run Foldershare on my Macbook Pro and it allows me to take it on calls occaisionally instead of my Windows laptop. - Stephen Kennedy via twhirl
Point your mobile browser at http://m.mesh.com Tried it yesterday and although limited it works well. Even on my iPhone! - Kevin C. Tofel
DesktopX is a program that lets users extend their Windows desktop to support true objects (as opposed to just icons). These objects can be cosmetic in nature or using a plugin or some scripting a user can make a desktop object do virtually anything. - Spencer Scott
I'm more amazed at the lack of interest in his vote for the FISA. I've also heard that there's a bill in the senate that effectively proactively pardons the administration (including the president) from any prosecution related to the Iraq & Afghan wars. - Jim McCusker
That would raise interesting constitutional questions. - Andrew Feinberg
I'm convinced that W's last political act will be to pardon himself, Cheney, Addington and crew, with the quiet approval and acquiescence of O. - Paul Denlinger
People finally realizing that Obama is no different than any other politician? - Spencer Scott
@Andrew Congress already tried once back in 2006 (http://is.gd/SwY). I'd be curious to find out how far they got and who endorsed it. - Jim McCusker
@Paul I don't think the president can pardon himself, but he can pardon his administration. I expect to see him pardon all the key players during his last days in office. - Jim McCusker
Well... it's too late now. I'd rather see Obama than McCain - Mona N
He can only pardon someone who has been convicted..... - Andy Lewandowski
This is from a new site called www.formerobamasupporters.com. I have been seeing quite a bit of this over the last week, looks like a lot of people are - Spencer Scott
It was a show of hands thing so very informal. Could be 7 or 8 to 1 as well. Clearly the Pro crowd here though uses Canon over Nikon. Other manufacturers were not even mentioned. Strictly a Canon vs. Nikon show of hands thing. - Thomas Hawk
Wow wouldn't have thought it would be an informal landslide.... - Snay Trivedi
I am wondering if the D3 will slowly get the Pros to switch to Nikon or if the cost of glass will prevent it - William Reveal via feedalizr
Microsoft keeps talking about the importance of backup and photo storage at this conference. Wonder if they have something interesting in this space coming down the road. - Thomas Hawk
How were conference goers selected? It doesn't suprise me that Canon shooters outnumber Nikon shooters but that ratio seems very skewed. - Brian Sullivan
I think Pros still clearly prefer Canon. - Thomas Hawk
more PC users than Mac too, correlation? - Dave Cohen
That's because you're all lemmings. *ducks and runs* - Cecily Walker
So having a Canon makes me a lemming? I'm sorry that's the height of ignorance. - Mike Lewis via Alert Thingy
I knew I should have brought my hammer to work with me! :P - Mike Lewis via Alert Thingy
PC users make smart choices in cameras, too. *hides in bomb shelter* - Kevin Williams
Canon and Nikon are equally good for Pro use. I know many who use Canon and many like me who use Nikon. Some argue the glass for Canon lenses is superior. Perhaps. - Photo Larry via twhirl
When I was researching to buy my first DSLR, the consensus I found was Canon for pros, Nikon for amateurs. That was anecdotal because that's what everyone I talked to said was the practice, not necessarily the way it should be. - Gregory Pittman
Canon is a MUCH larger company than Nikon. However, I just didn't like the feel of their cameras, and I prefer Nikon glass to Canon. That's what works for me. - William Beem
I love how competitive it has become. We all win as long as these companies put out great products! - Mike Lewis via Alert Thingy
canon has been the industry standard for forever so it isn't any surprise at all. - Damien Franco
That is quite a difference in preference. I also like Canon products. - James Mowery via twhirl
for the last few years canon has been killing nikon at the high end digital range. nikon has been working hard to catch up but the damage may have already been done. both companies make great cameras today and will continue to do so for years to come - sam b-r
I use/love Nikon, but I don't care what people have...as long as it takes pictures. - Kreg Steppe
My guess is it's about the same ratios among us amateurs using pocket sized cameras as well. Just spent sometime in BestBuy stores. Couldn't help noticing most people walk out with Canons. - shelisrael1
Wow, you mean I can be happy because I own a Nikon and I favor the underdog at the same time. Cool!. - Dennis E. Hamilton via twhirl
I use Canon; it just works for me. YMMV. However, Canon's wide angle glass is not the greatest so I'm starting to look elsewhere for alternatives. The 21mm f/2.8 Distagon is insanely sharp but it's no longer in production and copies are priced into the stratosphere. - Jauder Ho
hmm, that adds a new wrinkle to my decisions. One of the benefits(so I was told) of the Nikon is the ability to use the same lenses through the years? Personally I like Zeiss lenses, so whomever has those I tend to go w/. - clarke thomas
I chose Canon for two reasons. The first was that it felt natural in my hands. The controls seemed to be where I would want them. The second (and perhaps more important) was that two of my friends friends have Canon. It's great going on a shoot and having double the arsenal of lenses. But I think both are great choices and the competition makes for better equipment for everyone. - John Wright
Hmmm.. I agonized for weeks over what DSLR to purchase for my first one. I wavered back and forth between Canon and Nikon. Then, I went to the nest camera store here in Austin and ended up buying a.... Sony. It was the best bang for my buck and with the Minolta lens options available out there I have been very pleased with my decision. Of course, I'm no pro. - Jeff Jones
@shelisrael1 - P&S cameras are a different world. The margins are razor thin and Canon is larger than Nikon; better able to absorb the costs. Nikon's recent statements indicate that it wants to focus on the higher end market. Given it's position against Canon, that's a wise move. It can't complete as a commodity. - William Beem
I was considering buying a Canon Rebel XTI, but with the new Rebel XS coming out I dont know anymore. - Norman Hammer
I'd assume there's some selection bias in the attendees. - Eric
@ Mike Lewis, see Canon people can't even take a joke. I'm brand agnostic, and have even recommended Canon cameras to people who have asked. So dismount from that horse, if you don't mind. :) - Cecily Walker
@shelisrael - I prefer Canon's point and shoot cameras to Nikon's (and just about everyone else's). The reason I didn't get a Canon SLR when I was in the first in the market? Because I have ginormous hands and the Rebel XT felt tiny in comparison to the D50 I eventually bought, and because I couldn't afford a 30D or 5D. - Cecily Walker
We chose a Canon for our first DSLR on you a recommendation from a pro photographer. - Robert
I'm not buying that poll. Maybe Canon has turned into Comcast and stocked the room? - The Picture Man
And most "pro" drivers drive trucks and buses, but I'll stick to my BMW thanks. OK, not a brilliant analogy but everyone knows that Nikon has been playing catch up on the pro photography front. They have the line up now but the existing pros still have the legacy gear. it's going to be a long time before the balance shifts (if it does).
Also, they used to say that nobody got fired for buying IBM, isn't that a better analogy on the photo front? - Fraser Smith
Strange how a Pro camera poll has spawned so much debate about P&S and Prosumer models. - The Picture Man
@clarke thomas - Zeiss has several lines of manual focus lenses that fit the Nikon and several other mounts. See http://twurl.nl/x2p15o. However, they do not have one that directly fits a Canon which will require the use of an adapter. On the flip side, due to the large diameter of the Canon lens mount, it is possible to use lens from quite a few vendors although you have to test for clearance from the mirror. - Jauder Ho
Personally, I'm waiting to see if Zeiss will make an updated version of the 21mm Distagon. www.16-9.net is a useful resource if you are interested in lens comparisons. I would also add that the Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8 looks to be a pretty impressive lens too. - Jauder Ho
Especially insane if you happen to work for a company that already offers Exchange push. I just (in the interest of full disclosure) looked at all of the features again and, to be honest, the only thing that really appeals to me is having an @me.com email address simply for ease of use. Then again, if I'm going to use that email address, and everything's going to come to my phone, that's going to annoy the hell out of me. I like the customization that I can do thru other services, to pick and choose. - Bradley McSpinn
i think google's vision on .mac, and now .me is for a lesser tech-aware crowd to get into doing simple things online for a premium. Most, if not all, of these services are available elsewhere for free. - Brian Ries
You can host your own domain on the service and $99 a year is not bad at all. Would you complain if they said it was $8 dollars a month? For someone who doesn't want to use GMail's crap IMAP implementation it's a very good deal. - Michael Narciso
69.99 if you buy mobileme at the time of purchase of an iPhone 3G - Cole Orton
you can use your domain with .mac but only in a limited way... not with your email... - Robert
Cont: and for the average joe user who doesn't want to deal with setting up hosting services and maintaining it's a pretty good service. I like how it's synced up with almost everything I do on the iPhone and my Mac. I can't wait for my .mac to be upgraded. - Michael Narciso
waiting for the service, i have high expectation - Hunkie Chan
"but purchasers of an iPhone 3G will be able to score a subscription for $69 on Friday" this is clearly targeted towards new customers. As usual existing customers get pay higher fees - I guess that is the price you pay for your loyalty. - Vic Podcaster
I agree with everyone else, that yearly price is a bit on the crazy side. $99 lifetime wouldn't be bad though. - Chris
What does Yahoo! POP mail access cost? - Adam Turetzky
I like having a personal syncing system for contacts and calendar, outside of work. This is well worth $8 a month. - Andrew Burd
I looked at the pros and cons of using .Mac in the context of Google Apps and much of what you can do with .Mac is available in some form or another through Google and other services but .Mac offers a very easy way to back stuff up really easily in a way that integrates far better with the Mac OS than anything else. I am still not sure about the $99 cost but it was ultimately worthwhile for me to sign up. I am quite excited to see what the move to MobileMe adds to the mix. - Paul Jacobson via twhirl
I can't see the point of $99 for something you can pretty much get from either a web hosting account (with equiv features less than $99) and a Google Account. Any WebDAV disk mounts just like MobileMe/.Mac. So "integration" isn't really a selling point. It's just easy setup. - Robert Accettura
Yeah, I agree that the service could do with being a bit cheaper, but I do think that there is a lot of value in the service. What I really love about it is the synchronisation of my data across multiple devices. I can completely drop gCal now that there's a calender web UI for MobileMe. - Paul Grave
My biggest worry is that Apple has always been slow to iterate when it comes to their web properties (specifically .Mac). Hope this product continues to evolve even after it's launched. - Kevin Rose
I want to use it, but not willing to pay for it. If I buy the devices, the service and space should be free. - Matt Musgrave
I've subscribed to the service since day 1 when it was the free iTools and I couldn't be happier with the easiest and nicest looking system for quickly sharing photos online which takes almost no technical expertise to get something that looks good quickly. Syncing my bookmarks, contacts and calendars across 4 machines has totally been worth the money! - Adam Turetzky
I don't see the need for the service. With the exception of Back2MyMac, I can do anything offered on my own. - mark
Would be nice if other companies jump on-board with this and use Apple's push implementation. Think of the other enterprise mail/contact/calendaring companies that DON'T want to use Exchange. I can think of lots. Zimbra. Novell. SugarCRM. Kerio. The list goes on. If they get on board, MobileMe could be huge. - Glenn Batuyong via twhirl
In case you needed more proof that democrats have no idea about oil and energy we take a look at the latest nonsense from Nancy Pelosi. - Spencer Scott
Thanks for the "Better Recommended" script link. Looks slick. - Ken Sheppardson
I'm hoping that eventually some combination of Google Friend Connect, MySpace Data Availability, and Facebook Connect will achieve some sort of universal friend network... - Nathan Chase
Stardock is pleased to announced the release of CursorFX 2.01 today. CursorFX is an application that lets users easily change their Windows cursors to one of thousands available for download. - Spencer Scott
Ironically, Sarah, I have almost stopped using Facebook completely. Twitter and FriendFeed have really taken over for me. What is sad though is that most of my friends don't understand why I like these services. Quite odd. - James Mowery
facebook is good for those who are not as social media obsessed as us, though. :) - Sarah Perez
I'm sure this doesn't come as a surprise to most people who have already seen the incredible bias when it comes to the coverage of Barack Obama and John McCain. - Spencer Scott
I don't have aan acount there ... I just look to get an idea of who is following me .. it's not an absolute requirement for me to follow back :) just one of the different personal guidelines I use - Steven Hodson
I try to make sure I know people that I'm connected with on linkedin since it's "professional" - Eric Berlin
i don't like linkedin - but i do the same thing you do steven - hypocritical or dichotomy - not sure ;) - mike "glemak" dunn
I just check a person's blog/twitter or whatever and try to get a feel for them. I just added Eric cuz I like what I saw on his blog w/o even scrolling down. That's how I roll... - Rahsheen Porter
I have an account I haven't updated in like 5 years and 3 job title's ago. Only email I ever get from LinkedIn is when existing/former colleagues move on. Kinda creeps me out. - Brian Daniel Eisenberg
LinkedIn has actually helped me relocate college alumni and classmates. I wish they would do a little more with UI and maybe include graphics. - James
thats great and where's you linkin profile on FF eh ? - Peter Dawson
have you tried out the Greasemonkey script that displays Twitter bio info on peoples' FF user pages? it's awesome, Corvida wrote about it on RWW this weekend - Marshall Kirkpatrick
i'm with you steven. blogs and linkedin. but also if they post interesting things or comments if i have time to check it. - MG Siegler
Uh, Steve, where's *your* LinkedIn link..? ;-) - Sprague D
@Sprague as I said in a reply in the "folded" section of replies I don't have a LinkedIn profile because I never figured anyone would be interested in a cranky old fart enough to warrant signing up :) - Steven Hodson
linked in helps when job hunting. Especially in a town as small as pdx. - Shawn Smith
LinkedIn gives some bonafides. I do the same for people I am curious about, whether on FF or not. - John Samuelson
I can't resist the temptation to look at people's LinkedIn profile, but I usually save LinkedIn for people I've actually worked with/for, per the site's instructions. :) (not trying to be snarky, i just use the different web services for different reasons, some for professional reasons, some for self-expression, some for old friends and family, etc) - sergiooo (droffset)
Steven, of course they would. I use LinkedIn way more than Facebook or MySpace. - Cyndy
I too am using LinkedIn more than many other s/m sites. More value there for my biz. - Rick Mahn via twhirl
I usually checkout peoples LinkedIn pages, I find it gives me good impression of that person and if I want to follow them. - Arthur Guy
awesome news, now how about posting TWiT a few minutes early tonight in celebration? - Jordan
We don't hold on to TWiT - Dane posts it the minute it's ready. (Which should be soon.) - Leo Laporte
Is it cool just to buy a 32MB iTouch, most of the coolness, none of the AT&T? - Steven Van Tilburg via twhirl
Leo, can we get an audio stream feed of the daily TwitLive for us bandwidth challenged. I'm using EV-DO and it still doesn't quite keep up with your high bps. What speed are you sending out? - Keith Rowland
I figured it'd be cool to buy a used, deactivated iPhone with most of the coolness and none of the AT&T, and it would still have the potential to be a phone again. - MiniMage
I wonder if Super Monkey Ball would fit on a 32 MB iPod Touch:) - Grant
I have to agree with Keith, Leo. Is there going to be an audio stream or podcast of some of the twitlive activities for the new iPhone debut? Being on dial-up it's hard for me to watch the video streaming. - Molly
Waiting to see magic unroll on the iPhone 3G marathon coverage.. Leo, who is joining you on the 24 live? - Du Senyao Peter
Leo should do it telethon style... Have really cheesey variety acts, I'm thinking a singing dog and a bird that runs a obsticle course. Then every hour you could cut to a scene of Dane and Colleen at a bank of telephones and a counter of some sort. "Hi and welcome back to the iPhone-a-thon, lets go to Dane in the tally room... how we going Dane?" - John Worthington
Is that a question you really have to ask? :) - Spencer Scott
half the time I can't even get updates. twirl acts brain dead... - Eric Ortega via twhirl
I took Leo's advice and basically use friendfeed all the time now - Harry Myhre
I would switch to FriendFeed full time, but 6 followers on Twitter is better than 0 on FF. T_T - DeathByNinja
you can follow your twitter friends on FF. Look for the "imaginary friends" feature. With that feature you can pull your friends' feeds from other services into friendfeed. - Harry Myhre
Harry, I love that feature! I have a bunch of friends that use one or two services so FriendFeed doesn't really benefit them, but at least I can follow them here. Since none of my friends use it, my dilemma falls more in line with people not following me. :D - DeathByNinja
This is a photo I took at Sea World Orlando. It was a beautiful waterfall scene I thought others might enjoy. The download includes multiple resolutions including widescreen. I also included a link to download the logon for Windows Vista users. - Spencer Scott
I don't know who did his policy brief, but I love every point of it... I hadn't been seriously considering voting for Obama till I read that policy brief - David Silvernail
Robert, you REALLY, REALLY need the FriendFeed comment plugin on your blog. Remove your comments entirely and replace it with that and you'll be set. You won't have to post a link every time pointing people back to FF too. :-) - Jesse Stay
Obama. Evidence: http://youtube.com/watch?v=m4y... . It's an hour, but make time to watch this. The difference between McCain and Obama couldn't be more stark. - John Craft
Uh... this is so obvious it's silly! :*) - Susan Beebe
Don't really care what their "tech" policy is. I'm more concerned on who will control spending and not add more social programs for everyone else to pay for. - Spencer Scott
McCain, the man who admits he's computer illiterate, has a tech policy? - Mike Cohen
McCain, I've been told knows about the Internet and if ellected he might even look at it. - paul mooney
Do you think Obama came up with his tech policy all on his own, Mike? We talked about this on L33t Tech last weekend. Neither one of these guys can be bothered to write their own speeches. Do you think they have a cogent tech policy on their own without advisors? No! Both their tech policies came from advisory panels. It has nothing to do with whether McCain knows how to use the Internet. - Mark "Rizzn" Hopkins
Mark - Most things in Washington involve advisory panels of some sort. Wonder who's on these ones? - Tom Landini
