"I ran across a great analogy once involving a computer system. Basically, it's not that light takes time to travel, it's that updates to the system propagate at a finite rate. That's why gravity's effects don't travel instantaneously either. (If the sun were to suddenly vanish, we'd continue to see light from it AND we'd continue to orbit it until the effects of the vanish reached us 8 minutes later)" -
