"Over a span of four years, three girls from the same Cleveland neighborhood have gone missing. They all lived on the west side of the city. And they all vanished blocks from one another. Are the three cases connected? The FBI suspects they may be related. “We really believe someone out there knows something,” says Special Agent Scott Wilson. “We’re looking for that one tip that will lead us to find them.”" - Janet Forte from Bookmarklet

Social News: TechCrunch's secret Digg army
"How do TechCrunch stories make it to Digg's front page so often? With a little help from its friends, of course. Former TechCrunch writer Duncan Riley, now a foe of editor Michael Arrington, posted a screenshot from his inbox revealing what Riley calls "The TechCrunch Digg Club." It includes four writers from TechCrunch proper; seven from gadgets blog CrunchGear; two from TechCrunchIT, Arrington's incomprehensible enterprise-tech spinoff; plus two or three interns." - Igor The Troll יִצְחָק from Bookmarklet
Holy crap! If that is true and diggs team knows that, I think techcrunch url maybe banned/punished. - k00pa
No, TechCrunch URL certainly won't be banned, no way, really. We have been banned once and I know it does not happen to sites like TC. - Svetlana Gladkova from twhirl
Yeah Kevin Rose is Captain Crunch boy! LOL - Igor The Troll יִצְחָק
I wonder if Kevin will ban TechCrunch for a few days to get some hype for Digg? He definitely will get some PR out of this! LMAO - Igor The Troll יִצְחָק

you can actually buy diggs -- i 4get the website but you pay $20 plus 1$ per digg. - john conroy
@john: Really? You mean you really-really can buy diggs? That's an amazing surprise to me! - Svetlana Gladkova from twhirl
gregory: It's just that I've seen tons of places and people trying to sell diggs. But it is just so obvious that all these patterns are penalized that I am surprised anyone still bothers. - Svetlana Gladkova from twhirl
i happen to submit there stuff to digg, but thats b/c i like it. interesting stuff, will look into it. - Leximo
This should be no surprise, all the big players are starting to do this. Chicago Tribune employs a Digg spam force. - John Wesley

The first ever published article about missing South Florida mother, Lilly Aramburo written by Frank Alvarado with the Miami New Times. Pay special attention to the details given by Christen Pacheco and Kelly Starling. Make sure to read all 5 pages. Twitter is bringing about 10x more traffic than FriendFeed. YCombinator brings even more. TechMeme is in there too below YCombinator.
How long has FriendFeed been around in comparison to Twitter? - Ernie Oporto
I think friendfeed is just to complicated for people to get their head around it. Recently, I have been using FF more and more thanks to its conversational element. - Steven (optionshiftk)
hmm, i disagree - my gf gets it and she's not geeky in the slightest. I think it's because half of the time, people don't click the links to view the content - they assume the title of the post says it all or any images/text shared are the most important from the site... if you see what i mean. - Zee.
where is this traffic being brought to? - Scott Jarkoff
I agree with zee and scoble. But in terms of traffic i get the most in this order: Google (up to 500/minute depending on day and keyword placement), Stumbleupon (up to 16k day), Wikipedia (up to 10k a day), Mixx (up to 600/day), DesignYouTrust (up to 200/day),YCombinator (negligible), FriendFeed + Twitter (negligible). - Brandon
what site are you running Brandon?? - Zee.
LOL yeah, FF was confusing at first. :) - Ron
@zee... it's a couple different sites... one of them is http://dailytypography.com/ <== out of commission. I pretty much create a new website every time I have a new idea. I have over 180 domain names. The sites that don't net 30k in the first month I abandon. I need to find something and just stick with it. I don't do it for money, I just want an audience. You can find me on http://rummil.com now (i just started it the other day) :) - Brandon
I am still blown away how well the conversational element of FF works. It's fantastic. - Steven (optionshiftk)
@... definitely fantastic. - Brandon
@Brandon interesting stuff - will definitely stay tuned - Zee.
@zee thanks... :) - Brandon
@Brandon, I have a question for you. I get bunch of ideas but out of touch and have no time to do web development myself. My question is whether you will take on some of my ideas and convert them into websites, and we share any profits or fame :) what do you think?! - Hayk H.
Top 10 places that send traffic to my flickr photos: 1. Flickr, 2. Google. 3. thomashawk.com 4. images.google.com 5. collegehumor.com 6. image.search.yahoo 7. friendfeed. 8. stumbleupon 9. reddit 10. Pownce. Friendfeed is still less than 1% of the traffic I get at Flickr though. I don't think you do FF for the traffic. I think you do it for the community, sharing and experience. - Thomas Hawk
@Hayk I rarely do spec work but if you're serious tell me what you have in mind and I'll get back to you. allanpartridge[at]gmail.com ... I would of course expect that you'll be involved with each website... And, everything will be in writing via contract. - Brandon
@thomas ... CollegeHumor is a great source of traffic isn't it :D It's not that difficult to get featured in their hotlinks sections either. It's best to get featured in the hotlinks section on a friday bc the links stay on the front page sat&sun and most of monday too. Brings 10s of thousands of uniques a day. (your link doesn't have to be humorous to be accepted) http://www.collegehumor.com/hotlink... - Brandon
Brandon, sure! Just to make sure we are on the same line. I am looking for a partnership deal (so no seller-client but partner-partner), where I will of course be involved at every stage necessary. Contract and everything will be in writing, sure enough! If that is all fine by you I ll send you summary of few ideas I got in next few days. Let me know. - Hayk H.
@Hayk We're on the same page. Sounds good, I'll get back to you once I see those summaries. - Brandon
@ryo ... well i do get some traffic from FF and twitter each day but it's not a lot. I'd say roughly 60 from FF and 15 from Twitter each day. - Brandon
FF seemed difficult in the first 30 seconds... Now, SocialMedian is another story. - Victoria Plautia
Depends who you are. FriendFeed has delivered 10x what Twitter does for me. It's StumbleUpon, then Google, then FriendFeed, TechMeme, Reddit, Twitter, Feedly. - Louis Gray
My low-profile blog gets almost all it's traffic from Stumbleapon (one post in particular is lightyears ahead of the traffic for all my other posts combined), then Twitter, then FriendFeed, then Google searches. - Martin Bryant
@LG agreed ... Even if you are a Jets fan ... - Scott Moskowitz
@Victoria I agree on the SocialMedian issue. I have aboslutely no idea how that is supposed to be useful. - Gavin

Explain to me why the fuck a tech startup would be looking at a wine company's web site to learn site design? This is EXACTLY how to build an echo chamber-- by assuming know everything you know. Rewrite the article and resubmit. Provide a solution and concrete examples of the elements of winelibrary.tv (and others) that make it good. Do Over. -ER - Eric Rice from Bookmarklet

VMWare Fusion 2 Beta 2 available now - http://www.tuaw.com/2008...
While Fusion is great, if you don't need the graphics acceleration and can cope with only a single CPU per virtual machine then VirtualBox is fine. It also already has the snapshot features in this beta of Fusion and while the interface is a little odd they work fine. Mac OS X Server virtualizing would be fun though. - Russ
