"As you probably noticed, Google releases many interesting services as Android applications and some of them are part of Google Labs: an application that records GPS tracks, a star map, a directory of points of interest. The latest release is an application titled Google Listen, a player for podcasts. "Listen from Google Labs brings podcasts and web audio to your Android-powered device. It lets you search, subscribe, download and stream. By subscribing to programs and search terms it will create a personalized audio-magazine loaded with fresh shows and news stories whenever you listen.""

Can't wait for this to come to Blackberry. I spend at least 10 to 15 hours a week listening to podcasts now.
- Tony
@Tony Blackberry? Never happen. There are Podcast Clients for the Blackberry though
- Kreg Steppe
Had to fave this on youtube after watching it. It's the exact opposite of the "Shining" trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch... -- I want to see both of the movies advertised in the remixed trailers.

In just four months of my 20% time and with a little help from the 20% time of my coworkers this application has gone from an idea in my head to a full application ready for you, really demonstrating the ease and power of developing on Android."

damn. Android users get all the cool toys. I *hate* that I can't access Google Maps on my iPhone. That was one of the top reasons that I bought one in the first place. Does anyone know why Google Maps sucks so badly on Edge/3G on the iPhone?
- Thomas Hawk
Wait, what? Google Maps works great for me on Edge. I don't have 3G where I live. Once in a while I have to wait for the maps to load but I've even used it for some quick driving directions before.
- Paul Wade
Paul not the apple maps app, but try actually going to google maps website itself. I can't load custom maps that I make there and there is no way to get my custom maps onto the apple map app. The apple/google map app works great for me, but it's pretty worthless because I can't get my points of interest that I enter on the web to show up there.
- Thomas Hawk
OOOOH, I'll have to try that. I'm sorry that I misunderstood. Now I see what the problem is.

I'm getting hazed here for conspiracy? but I am against that. blah blah blah? the abortion pizza bit that I got blocked for was posted by the same person who started the kitty meme here. that keeps on coming back to ff. btw... who do I talk to about the NDS imposter here? http://beta.friendfeed.com/nds
- Noah David Simon
Well, at least every time you comment, it gives us another opportunity to get this article back into the main friendfeed cue so more people can read the article for themselves.
- Andrew Baron
It is instructive to actually read the linked article, and if one does, one will readily understand that CBS pulled the ad for reasons unrelated to deception. One might also wonder if the ad was aired during the primary season, i.e. in support of HRC.
- eggsy
More people learning about CBS's hypocrisy is always a good thing.
- Ben Jackson
from twhirl
how did it get up there in the first place? using footage of one of their reporters in a campaign ad? that makes CBS look bad.
- tiffany
Only if what the "reporter" said makes themm look bad.
- eggsy
well no, eggsy. having a reporter in a campaign ad makes CBS look like they're playing favorites. that's not a good look for any journalism organization, except maybe on the editorial pages.
- tiffany
The actual comment that *offended* CBS was presented in the ad as a general tenet of belief by Ms. Couric, which was exactly the way Ms. Couric intended it in the first instance. The fact that CBS pulled the ad is testimony to their angst at having to face their double standards, and nothing more. Did they really think that anyone would believe, even for an instant that Couric or CBS would endorse Palin?? Of course not.

"Check out Snopes.com - they are THE independent site on the Internet for snooping out urban myths - Snopes says the letter is real. The woman who authored it has posted her own blog over at the Huffington Post. Here is her email in full. For some reason, this email about Palin has struck a chord with people. I recommend you copy and send this post to your friends, or use the "send to a friend" link under the title of this post (it's the link that looks like a small white envelope with an arrow in it). This one you can send around with the certainly that it's for real:"

PALIN RAISES MONEY -- FOR OBAMA! **Exclusive** Obama scores $8 million since Palin's speech from over 130,000 donors - on pace to hit $10 million by the time John McCain hits stage, campaign says... Developing..
The middle one looks like a real mag pic - gorgeous :)
- Dom
Except that a real graphic designer wouldn't run type right across someones eyes. Slide the whole photo down about 10mm, and it'll be fine. And flip it left-right, so that she's on the left edge - for visibility if competing mags are stacked horizontally with just the edge showing.

Last week, Atrios highlighted a McCain-Palin image and remarked, “It just looks like something from a bad Hollywood sitcomish movie about a presidential campaign. Matt Yglesias added, “But what it really looks like — exactly like — is something from a movie where the joke is that Tina Fey is John McCain’s running mate. It’s the part she was born to play.” Ironically, in September 2004 — more than three years before McCain first met Palin — Life featured Fey and McCain on its cover:

Thanks for noticing this... and posting on it. It's startling to watch these interviews. Tim Russert was famous for giving guests a tough grilling, but compared to what we're seeing now, he was a marshmallow. Russert always let them skate after a they repeated their stonewall talking point. But the new old media is starting to do the job this old couch potato always wanted them to do.
- Michael Markman
If the MSM does anything, it's because they think it'll get them better ratings and profits, not because they've collectively rediscovered their purpose in life or anything. Producers have told the "talent" to be more aggressive because they think that's the popular trend.
- Russell Beattie
I noticed a little less tolerance from them lately, and I was hoping that the ribbing from Colbert el al. was having an effect.
- Mr. Gunn
actually when they break news, they break news. sleazy, but news breakers.
- jeneane sessum
They were right about Edwards. Remember it was Drudge who had Lewinsky as well, before Newsweek, so the mainstream media doesn't get everything.
- Louis Gray
He-said, she-said won't matter much, I don't think. She'll deny it, story over.
- Russell Beattie
ChiliMac: but why are they on the forefront of this story?
- LPH™ and his dog P™
They seem to be right about a third of the time. They were right on Edwards.
- Eric @ CSTechcast.com
the story has a ring of truth b/c they say the announcement came after famiy notified the story was going to be published
- R. Ferguson
I love it. Obama consorting with an unrepentant bomber, funneling money and trading favors? No coverage. But if it's about Palin suddenly the left will take the Enquirer as a source? Let me guess, she saw bigfoot and elvis on a UFO?
- Soulhuntre
from twhirl
however it is a sad day in when the Natl Inquiry influences a presidential race. Thank you John McCain for this leadership.
- R. Ferguson
How is it McCain's fault? Just because he decided to run? Should Obama run unopposed?
- Gregory Pittman
@LPH: At the forefront of what story? That a daughter told her parents she was pregnant and they fought about it. The National Enquire at best will make a story that is half truth and half lies just to juice it up a little.
- ChiliMac
@Gregory Pittman - to be fair he does prefer it that way, it's how he won his first election (by hiring lawyers to get his democratic opponent thrown off the ballot) :)
- Soulhuntre
gregory that to prove his Maverick status he clearly chose someone with little more consideration than the flip of a coin. I don't care for Romney, Liberman, or the other governor considered. But at least they appeared qualified and unlikely to damage the ticket.
- R. Ferguson
It's amazing how much power is ascribed to Bush and now McCain. Somehow McCain has single handedly destroyed the political process and the entire media debate system in a week or so. Damn, that man is GOOD.
- Soulhuntre
@Soulhuntre, LOL. Ruth, I haven't seen anything about Palin that says she will damage the ticket. There might be stuff out there. I don't know. But I've always preferred facts, not partisan assumptions.
- Gregory Pittman
from twhirl
Ruth, Palin's not damaging the ticket. She's making the Democrats nervous.
- Larry Huffman
Wondering what the Enquirer has. Hope she wasn't doing John Edwards.

There's a war in her family. Daughter, sister, ex-brother-in-law, mother-in-law. lots of inbred competition going on there.
- Dave Winer
When did the National Enquirer become a credible (news) source? About the same time as Fox News?
- Ian May
strange, link not working for me, and front page says it's under construction/ maintenance
- Duncan Riley
Its been a long time since the media had a really juicy political scandal. She has scandal and DRAMA smell all over her.
- CW™
@Sean McGee - of course that's a pretty standard Obama thing. Someone in his staff or on his team does something trying to make an attack stick and when it fails Obama tries to pretend it wasn't from his team. It's a nice tool but makes him look pretty weak as a leader the more he uses it.
- Soulhuntre
OK, for everyone NOT in North America, the National Enquirer is GEORETARDED. Used Proxify.org or another proxy to view
- Duncan Riley
@Larry Huffman - very nervous indeed. They've tried the idea that a mother shouldn't be considered for high office, they've tried attacking her daughter, they've tried that insane "fake pregnancy" rumor and now they are left saying "hey! she can't be VP - she only has a little more experience than Obama!" - the harder they attack her, the more they endear her to a lot of voters as they look more and more insane.
- Soulhuntre
@Soul, do you mind giving an example of a time when his campaign did something and then he acted like it was not them.
- R. Ferguson
Always get a laugh when repubs talk about facts. They shouldnt' even be allowed to use the word fact. And yes, I'm sure nervous now that they've brilliantly locked down those 3 electoral votes Alaska has...
- Indio Apache
from twhirl
or maybe there are ppl across the country who use the internet and see politicans speak for themselves or their surrogates and supporters use social media to come to their own conclusions. Soul & Sean M, I look forward to your examples.
- R. Ferguson
get over it already, Sarah Palin will be the next VP
- David Ward
@Soulhuntre: "of course that's a pretty standard Obama thing" No one on the McCain team has ever done that, right? No one in any other political campaign, left, right, conservative or liberal has done that, right? You want to be partisan, that's fine, but don't go taking high ground when it's all at sea level.
- AJ Kohn
the National ENQUIRER is sleazy, but once in a while it breaks something factual - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki... - so let's see... this is turning into a political soap opera. thanks to a stupid vetting.
- ~C4Chaos
Breaking news! Campaigns have meetings to talk about strategy, positions and craft messaging, sometimes packaged for media outlets in bite size formats. Investigative reports have found that they also have speech writers and folks interested in public relations on their team as well. Yes, it's true! Wake me up when the talk on *issues* begins.
- AJ Kohn
@Ruth Ferguson - you are correct, I phrased it badly. Obama acknowledges it was his team or associate, then throws them under a bus by claiming he didn't know what they were doing, what they believed or that they didn't represent his views. This link is a decent starting point with some examples - http://news.yahoo.com/s...
- Soulhuntre
looks like a good use of the web to market the paper version.
- Andrew Warner
The Enquirer became a credible source when they broke and stayed with the John Edwards story. Its a new world. Just because its the Enquirer or Drudge or FriendFeed, new credible sources are everywhere.
