Seesmic, Friendfeed and Twitter next to each other in a test version of Twhirl. Adding tons of Friendfeed experience improvements in there, Marco rocks.
Is twitter's api actually back up at 50 req/hr?
- Shawn Farner
The old Twhirl works for me in linux for me, it just won't remember my password.
- Daniel E. Renfer
from twhirl
Yes Marco does. Twhirl is becoming my info hub. And if Twitter dies, who cares I'm sure Pownce, Jaiku or whatever could be swapped in

"SARASOTA, FL—Through the ups and downs of raising four children, years of financial hardship, and all the stresses and turmoil of daily life, claims adjuster Arnold Schneider has stayed true to his wife of 42 years, despite his most determined efforts to engage in sexual intercourse outside of wedlock. "I could never be unfaithful to Helen," said the 63-year-old Schneider, who over the past four decades has unsuccessfully attempted extramarital relations with dozens of friends, acquaintances, work colleagues, and random strangers. "Sure, there have been some tough times, and we all have moments of doubt, but Helen is the woman I love.""

I've successfully written an FTP client from scratch over asynchronous sockets. Reasons for such insanity will (hopefully) become clear in the near future.
Yikes. I haven't touched sockets since college and really don't ever want to do it again. Well done.
- James (@willia4)
Juggling the sockets for LIST and RETR, and STOR is the trickiest bit. The FTP protocol turned out to be not nearly as scary as I had it built up in my head. Maybe that's because it's older than water.
- Paul Reynolds
Whatever your working on should also include a Kermit option for file transfers. Assuming it's an iPhone app, you could advertise it as the only iPhone app supporting the Industry Standard for Cross Platform File Transfer*.

I'm not even real sure WHY i'm so excited, but I sure am! Damn, Google knows how to build some cryptic buzz! I mean... I get the gist of it, but there are still so many unknowns...
- Brad Williamson
Guys, I have no more invites but when I get some I'll ask you all again if you want one. WAVE is so COOL! It has some getting used to but the playback solves it quickly.
- AJ Batac
Anybody have any goodness to spare? I'm ksheppardson you know where. They told me at one point I was in line for a sandbox invite that never materialized... Sigh....
- Ken Sheppardson
You'll be on my list Ken when I get more.
- AJ Batac
Thanks, AJ. I'm resisting the urge to just start badmouthing/bashing Wave as a failure out of frustration over not yet having been able to use it... ;-)
- Ken Sheppardson
"After filling in this form, you should receive a mail with your account details within a few days. Hope to see you on Google Wave soon,"... that was 59 days ago. :-/
- Ken Sheppardson
Is it everything you dreamed of? ;-)
- Grant Bierman
We'll see. I think it's too early for its time. 90% of my friends may not know what to do with it. Then again, I'm an early adopter. It might just be me imagining things again.
- AJ Batac
haha, so true of most folks isn't it?! LOL
- Susan Beebe
Wow, I forgot about email invites. (Guess I'm already in the Wave mindset.) I was just checking the home page, where it says "Your Google Account has not yet been activated for Google Wave.".
- Vezquex: God of FF
Nooooooooooooooooo! That means I have only 99,999 changes left! :(.... (just kidding, congrats!)
- Danny Minick
So do the people who receive invites have invites to give?
- Brad Williamson
Yes. Wait... Hold on. They're called nominations. If you've been nominated multiple times you get up pretty quickly. I think it's not like the Gmail invites that gets out instantly.
- AJ Batac
ehm isn't it a bit too much? bitchy i would say

Bitchy, playful... perfect. Especially love the last shot.
- Fossil Huntress
Oh looky...who do we have here?? Fancy that...it's Ms Von Teese!! *wipes the drool away from your mouth* ;p <333

Very nice; red is very hard to pull off as a color
- RAPatton

Oooo la la. Dita always pleases. And she looks HOT in red. Granted, these are photoshopped all the hell, but it works for Dita since she's more pin-up style.
- Jason Huebel
Wow! Didn't know there was so much love for the Dita! :-) she's a classic beauty, for sure...the SECOND most beautiful woman in the world! ;) <333

Uh oh...was i drooling again, Emma? :-o I really need to work on that....or get a bib ;p <333

The bib is probably easier. Because this group will surely have more Dita pics.
- Jason Huebel
@RAPatton... but there's something 'more'... that 'x' factor... sexual charisma? something witchy? in any case, i surrender... happily
- T. Brent, technopeasant
she's timeless....that's about the best way to describe her look...very few people can pull that off, in my opinion... ;-)

Favorite item on my bookshelf: a signed copy of "Horton Hears a Who!" :)
- Frankie Warren
I need to get more for Josiah. We only have "I Wish That I Had Duck Feet". His favourite book at the moment is "Hairy Maclary from Donaldson's Dairy". We have that at least twice a day ;o)
- Mellissa Jane
We were such geeks, we started reading the Cat in the Hat to my kids even before they were born! Fox in Socks is my husband's favorite! I like Green Eggs & Ham and the Lorax
- Martha
I loved Dr Seuss but I don't remember Fox in Socks. Is that newer?
- Internet Strategist
believe it or not, i never read any dr. seuss books.

"Lynsey Addario, a Turkish-American photojournalist based in Istanbul, has won a John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation Grant for 2009, the Foundation announced yesterday. The grant, which is made secretly, is popularly known as the "Genius Award." There is no public nomination process and no one knows they're being considered until they win. Winners receive $500,000 over five years. There are no strings attached, but the award is given with the understanding that it will help foster independence and freedom from financial worry for work yet to be done."

"If you can't install Google Chrome and you must use Internet Explorer, there's a way to use Google Chrome's rendering engine inside IE: Google Chrome Frame. After installing the plug-in, you can test it by adding cf: in front of any URL from the address bar. Google Chrome Frame is an interesting option for the developers that write web applications and use HTML or CSS features that are available in any modern browser, except IE."

Birthday dinner was a success -- supposed to be Mahi burgers, but none at the grocery store, so went with Grouper. Never had Grouper until tonight and it was a good substitute. Also had hamburgers and pasta salad and cinnamon rolls. Saving ice cream and cake for tomorrow night. Thanks for all the comments and well-wishes everybody!

Listening to Evo at 11 where he mentioned me by name and played "Drunk Man's Junk." This is maybe the 30th time I've heard the song, and it still makes me laugh.
Welcome Baby Ryan!!! My baby Ryan (17 years!) and I are honored to welcome another superstar to our planet! Love, hugs, and lots of kisses to Baby Ryan, Mommy Maryam, Dad Robert and big brothers Milan & Patrick and of course Grandma!!! My guess on Ryan's arrival (predication) was only 23 hours off. I thought he would arrive on Friday, Sept. 18th at 11:45 pm. Love to all, Kelly & Ryan Kim
- Kelly S. Kim
What a moment, eh? I remember when my daughter came into this world, it was so exciting there were no words for it. Congrats on your wonderful baby boy!
- Michael J. Carrasquillo
Congratulations! Welcome to the world, Ryan. :-)

Congratulations Robert and Maryam! And welcome Ryan. If I was having a baby today, I'd begin a blog for him/her straight away as an online diary they could look back on when grown up.

"The mouse’s many features may be a bit overwhelming for a beginner, with assignable buttons and tabs for iTunes, browser and Facebook controls. The best way to get familiar with it is to watch the demonstration video on the Air Mouse Web site. Many fans of the app also use it as a remote for a computer running a TV or have used it to control a presentation while roaming a room."

2nd vote for Snatch that I just installed to control my Mac Mini running plex. Really nice with downloadable remote templates to run Hulu app, iTunes, Keynote and a bunch of other stuff. Pairing was very easy and worked more importantly. $3.99 on app store is cheaper than Air Mouse I think.

My 30,000th Photograph on Flickr The photo above represents my 30,000th photograph published to Flickr. It’s a milestone and part of my continuing goal to publish 1,000,000 photos to Flickr before I die. This photograph is from one of my favorite shoots. A shoot I did with my wife and children a ways back in this storm drain in Big Tujunga Canyon.
- Thomas Hawk
@thomasHawk didn't you say you wouldn't use flickr after they were gits once long ago?

Congratulations, Thomas! By the way, that shot would be perfect in my Vanishing Points group... I'll add an invite to it on Flickr.

Hasan, I did stop using Flickr for a while over some some censorship issues a while back. As you know I feel pretty strongly about censorship. I changed my mind though and couldn't really stay away.
- Thomas Hawk
"My 30,000th Photograph on Flickr" way to go @thomasHawk. I remember reading yr 10^6 & thinking thats ambitious. Now the Q. In the back of my mind I've been thinking about "how do you a) backup online against flickr takedowns? b) manage & curate the images as times goes on: cost, time etc?
- Peter Renshaw
Well mostly I back up my photos by using drobos as primary storage. I also keep another copy of my finished photos on hard drives off location. I upload pretty much the same photos to Flickr and Zooomr. So I've got two copies. Additionally, almost all of my flickr photos are fed into clustershot where they can be marketed for stock photography. I always upload original sized photographs...
- Thomas Hawk
30,000, wow! Made me look. I'm only just past 20,000. Had no idea where I was. Need to pay attention to those landmarks. This is a wonderful shot, but then so many of yours are. You live to witness and share beauty.
- Patricia F. Anderson
500 a week! I feel slug-like. I'm so glad you do what you do with your talent at photography. Thank you for your inspiration and dedication to your craft, 4 children and spouse and a full time career aside. Very thought provoking and challenging. Congratulations on your milestone.

just got a call from my dad, my mom is now in the nearby ER with a blood infection and a temperature of at least 102F. gonna step away from the computer for a bit now.
last message says her temp is down but her other vitals are dodgy. she's been through triage and evaluation and they're waiting for a room in the ER to come free now.
- Joe Silence is not dead
Dead Silence, I hope she continues to improve. I had a blood infection once and it was really scary.
- joey
I hope everything works out all right. Best wishes to you and yours.
- James (!?)
Sorry to hear this. Take care and let us know how she's doing.
- Linda Lorie
around 11:30pm last night i talks with my dad again via phone and discovered he hadn't eaten a thing apart from some trail-mix bars since that morning. he's 68 and less than a year out from thyroid/parathyroid cancer surgery (he's in remission now) so i consider this a big deal. my wife was awake and immediately whipped up some rice porridge from scratch with chicken and woodear mushrooms and a bit of garlic and some other things. i love her! i hauled it and some other stuff up to the hospital.
- Joe Silence is not dead
when i got there the staff were moving my mom to a wing on the other end of the hospital. after she finally got transferred to the new bed and they started going through the "paperwork" on a portable workstation it was discovered that the admitting physician (who my folx never met!) had totally failed to approve my mom's pain meds. the last time she was in hospital the same thing happened and she wound up crippled and in a nursing home for nearly four fucking months! we were pissed.
- Joe Silence is not dead
after we regained our composure and raised hell, my dad ate and i went home. i think i got to bed at 4am. woke at 7am and showered and am now eating my own breakie. can't taste anything. maybe some picante sauce on my eggs? this shit sucks.
- Joe Silence is not dead
Please let us know soon as you can. In prayers.
- Melanie Reed
her pain meds were straightened out by daybreak. attending has been. much antibiotics, mostly intravenous, and she seems to be resting well. my wife got it into my dad's head that he needs to look after himself if he's going to be any help at all to my mom, so he actually ate properly today. now he just needs to go home and get some SLEEP. apart from this, i haven't been told much else.
- Joe Silence is not dead
the latest from my dad: "Her infection was looking worse, if anything, when I left early this morning. But she's due for a second round of IV antibiotics. So maybe something will start working. As of right now, they don't even know what kind of bug is causing the sepsis."
- Joe Silence is not dead
the doctors seem to lack any sense of urgency and this is really pissing me off. they haven't even bothered to culture the infection yet to see what's eating my mom and it's almost 48 hours now! i guess SOP is to just load her up on whatever antibiotics are handy??
- Joe Silence is not dead
it's definitely a staph infection. also, the antibiotics are giving her an allergic reaction. red and scalded looking with skin falling off back, arms and legs. she's miserable. :(
- Joe Silence is not dead
:( sorry to hear this, DS. Now they know for sure what it is, though, maybe they can deal with it better.
- WorldofHiglet
my dad rang and told me things are getting worse. the antibiotics aren't working and my mom is getting more and more septic. dunno how this is gonna go now.
- Joe Silence is not dead
What have the doctors said? It can take time for antibiotics to work. All the best to you and your family.
- WorldofHiglet
latest news: my mom was sent home last night but will be getting antibiotics intravenously twice a day for two more weeks. out of the woods but not actually well yet. major progress, however.
- Joe Silence is not dead
Dead Silence, that's great to hear. I hope she continues to the point of actual wellness :)
- joey
Sounds like great news - may the major progress continue.
- Kurt Starnes
That does sound like good news at last - good to hear she is on the better side.

Whoa, I just ran across a firm that I thought would be a good sponsor for CREATE South 2010 and was thinking about contacting them. Within 5 minutes, I had already received an email from them saying they'd like to be a sponsor of the event. Can it really be this easy?
