Playing hard to get is an art, and not something that should always be used. When used most effectively, it's more of a backing off and not smothering someone with too much attention, till they show they want it. Great news, love the efforts still put in to FF.I use Google Reader to share into FF (PubSubHubBub) then FF to Twitter (now Real-Time). The URL shortener is great (ff.im), and so FF is central to my social lifestream. I don't care what Scoble says, FF is technically better and feature-rich. - Keith Rowland

The worst part of this is that the trademark filing was only this past April. I am not sure if they will be able to use it against applications built prior to the filing. If they do attack apps like TweetDeck and Tweetie, then it will become obvious that they do not like their developers. - Rob Diana

One of the questions I asked when I investigated trademarks was when the product/service was first used. "First use" needs to be shown in the trademark app. The TWEET trademark filing by Twitter does not show a "first use" date, which is interesting. - Tamar Weinberg

I think Twitter may be able to enforce that nobody uses the word "Tweet" from the time that Twitter filed the trademark app and onward, but it would not be ethical nor would it be legally enforceable, I believe, to force people to get rid of the names they'd been using forever PRIOR to the filing. - Tamar Weinberg

Robert, you can easily turn FF into just an aggregator. Feed your services in and don't interact. The only thing missing is an account setting to automatically disabnle comments on all of your posts, which can easily be requested in the Feedback room. Some people will tolerate a little higher noise in their S/N ratio to glean extra information from open conversations on FF/Twitter. Others may want to eliminate the noise and just focus on a few select feeds. Ahh, I think I am running into the "10 updates to wall per day FB restriction". I just joined FF and was testing this functionality out this morning. All services go to FB (excepted those from FB itself). That is why I would like to choose: FB already imports Flickr, YouTube, Digg and more, so they are duplicated, while entries from FF or services not supported by FB might stay out as over quota. - Flavio

This tech has been around for ages. It's getting much needed promotion right now, but it's not new. The name comes from XMPP's pubsub mechanism, with hubbub on the end. The option for PingShot has also been in Feedburner for months. - Marlin Forbes

Re: BackType - I've noticed that they'll recrawl your comment if you modify it, within a few hours, after some testing. Not sure if it always happens though, but I've seen at least 4 reappear after I've modified them. - Tyson Key

On Twitter you can drop off of searches and you're royally screwed. On FF you don't have to worry about all the Twitter glitches. The Twitter search glitch has really been the source of MUCH heartbreak, for me and for many others. I loved those Twitter hashtag chats so much. Without them, my life will never be whole again.
