stevegarfield: Update: RT @zhanna: @danzarrella I retweeted just yesterday using the "via" syntax, & have many times before (not reflected in search tho). - http://twitter.com/stevega...
What do majority of locals in Iran have to say about the elections Robert? Did your wife get any idea by talking with her friends/relatives?
- Amit Nangare
Despots aren't nearly unpopular among tradtional news agencies. Odd, but they seem to embrace them.
- Jason Nunnelley
She said that she's hearing that Tehran closed SMS and lots of Web traffic today. That the protests are widespread and not just in Tehran.
- Robert Scoble
There were a few people who were able to get on FF from the universities
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
Oh, lucky Twitter wasn't blocked, I know some other services were.
- Ryan - @magicofpi
As a farsi speaker I can say that none of the things reported here on FF is being reflected on the english side of the media. And it's a shame
- Khosrow
fascinating. can't wait to check in on this conversation tomorrow.
- Brian Daniel Eisenberg
Mohammad here was saying that cell voice calls were blocked too
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
Amit: not enough info yet to give an accurate answer. Our family is nervous because we know that the clergy is in charge in that country and the people are not. The potential for a disaster like Tianenmen is very high.
- Robert Scoble
Khosrow: I'm so ashamed of USA media right now. It's horrid coverage, and that's if we get any coverage at all.
- Robert Scoble
@Khosrow - please help us understand your perspective on this... What are the Farsi people speaking about here on Friendfeed. I really want to know what the true story is.
- Brian Daniel Eisenberg
Khosrow: I really wonder why the USA media is so lame on this coverage. You'd think that they'd be covering it 24/7 because it has a big chance to have a deep impact on our relationship and the stability of the Middle East.
- Robert Scoble
Robert, this conversation in real time is so much more useful than on twitter. I hope all goes well with you and your loved ones. Peace!
- Rohit
I can say that this morning we were glued to BBC persian service and their reporting has been the best so far... I'm not sure how that has been reflected in their english service.
- Khosrow
you'd think they'd realize the chance that the US government is going to have (and take) because of this event
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
Khosrow: I need to follow BBC more closely. I didn't have it on the TVs I had access to today.
- Robert Scoble
There is a danger that any real info coming out of Iran will be lost in a sea of shouts of support and endless retweets, whilst it's important at this time to support prodemocracy movement in Iran,we will learn more by listening.
- Paul Downing
Robert, scary times - my thoughts are with you and your wife and her family
- Jesse Stay
that's just unbelievable - glad I own computers and not TVs
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
Robert: I was watching BBC online, they're live show is at 12:30 GMT
- Khosrow
Search here for "iran" (friendfeed's search is best for real time) with a filter for displaying only items with one like or more: http://friendfeed.com/search...
- Robert Scoble
FYI - there's a BBC World News iPhone App if you're not near a TV.
- Joe Breen
US media in general has historically been very bad at covering anything outside of the USA. As an English person travelling in the US it's very very noticeable how little foreign news you guys get to see. It's almost as if they have decided the rest of the world is not interesting enough for you. And also a possible contributor to many US citizens appalling knowledge of world geography. Hopefully the freely available world news via the internet will force them to change.
- Gilbert Harding
Fascinating Robert, keep up the tweets, etc. :)
- Doug
Gilbert, the thing that's offensive about it is how intimately connected our foreign policies are to this event. It's a very big deal that Iranian citizens are in conflict with their government. We hear something about Iran's efforts to seek nuclear weapons nearly every day. This is a huge news event in that context.
- Jason Nunnelley
It's a wonderous thing as an American to watch and read the news in several different languages and see how much the average American is missing out on
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
Gilbert: I doubt that the mainstream news media will change. Most Americans just don't care. That's the real problem here. But more and more will realize what they are missing out on thanks to Twitter, Facebook, friendfeed, blogs, and will just switch. Check out this video report:...
- Robert Scoble
Couldn't agree more Jason. What must not happen is foreign intervention. Change has to come from within the country. This is a first class example of why politics and religion are not the best bedfellows.
- Gilbert Harding
guruvan, looks like an interesting blog.
- Amit Morson
Robert, this is a real shame. I have been following the news closely on the BBC. Keeping your wife's family in my thoughts & prayers. Hang in there.
- Ryan Merket
Robert: Maybe many Americans don't care, but is that because they haven't been given the chance to care because of ignorance of world events?
- Gilbert Harding
wow. The collection of image/videos on the shooresh1917 blog (Rob linked it above) - what you see is astounding.
- Micah Wittman
Amit: that was a very interesting page. good comments, videos, pics...the works for the day
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
Robert, I don't think it's fair to continue with the idea that "most Americans don't care." I think most of us don't care to be lied to, scammed, conned, and continuously let down by our leaders. One reason the newspaper industry is in freefall is Americans are consuming their news elswhere. It's not primarily CNN, Fox News, or anything else traditional. The revolution in news isn't about cheap or fast or entertaining. It's about truth.
- Jason Nunnelley
Mine too - and with the folks around the world who have family there (Like Robert & his Wife)
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
Jason: Traditional media is in freefall because of lack of money via advertising mainly. And that is a direct result of dwindling circulation figures for the newspapers and magazines. You can't charge multi million circulation ad rates if you don't have multi million readers anymore. TV and radio advertising has been suffering at the hands of on-line advertising for a number of years...
- Gilbert Harding
Jason: I agree with you a bit. But then I meet people in planes who are just so ignorant. Makes me very sad. And they don't care that they are ignorant. But the thinking people have DEFINITELY moved on, totally agree. Someone tonight was making fun of the newspaper industry and parroting John Stewart: "how do you like your 'aged' news?"
- Robert Scoble
Seems like the new day in Iran started quietly.
- Amit Morson
mamoot: what are you seeing, hearing, what aren't we learning about?
- Robert Scoble
Mamoot we need words and pictures the traditional media isn't getting.
- Gilbert Harding
mamoot: is it true that friendfeed is blocked for most people in Iran? If so, how are you getting through? Are you on a university network?
- Robert Scoble
yes Mamoot - we want to know what the people are doing, thinking....from the perspective of the average Iranian.
- Brian Daniel Eisenberg
Mamoot: what are you seeing reported on your local media? What is the government reporting to the people?
- Robert Scoble
For those of you who were looking to translate Farsi, someone on Twitter just suggested this site. I haven't tried it yet but looks legit: http://www.stars21.com/transla...
- AllisonWagda
ماموت I'm glad you're involved in the conversation. Who in Iran is blogging, talking online and sharing things you know to be true.
- Jason Nunnelley
Gilbert, you're correct. One of the reasons for newspaper failure was their own refusal to adapt to a new market. However, the edge blogs and new media in general have over traditional media is more about the quality of the information. Secretly we all distrust traditional sources and believe individuals who are just sharing their personal stories. That genie is out of the bottle and won't ever be put back. It's too easy to get news directly from real people in real time.
- Jason Nunnelley
Robert: CNN was weak but NYT was not and The Atlantic's chief blogger, Andrew Sullivan, delivered superb coverage on the reports out of Iran today. Easily identifiable reporters and cameramen were threatened - one camerman from the UK's Channel 4 News was arrested when capturing the protests earlier today. He has since been released. OTOH, there were journalists Twittering events from Iran too.
- Debi Jones
Robert, you're right. Many people are willfully ignorant. Just don't encourage them to vote ;)
- Jason Nunnelley
Please give Maryam a big hug for me and tell her that I am thinking about her and her family.
- Teresa Valdez Klein
Apologies, translator site doesn't appear to work for me, but might for some others.
- AllisonWagda
Khosrow: these were the reports in the west last night, I was hoping to get more local confirmation of them now - those reports were not 100% confirmed yet
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
The freedom of information given by access to the internet and satellite TV services is proving a headache for governments trying to keep populations under control. The first instances of this resulted in the downfall of the Soviet Empire and the crumbling of the wall. It will continue to happen as citizens in those countries realise the freedom they apparently enjoy is not really freedom at all.
- Gilbert Harding
@Rob Nelson: I'm in the west as well, so I'm only relaying what I've heard and read in the persian FF, twitter and blogs..
- Khosrow
Mamoot: Thanks. It would appear likely then they have been arrested
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
Gilbert: Right you are. It's hard to control an informed population
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
Khosrow: If you're reading Persian you're one up on me ;)
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
mamoot" BBC news here in the UK showed footage of the riot police randomly beating prople with truncheons. One seemd to be trying to beat a protesters car to death and succeeded in knocking off a wing mirror before being hauled off by the mob.
- Gilbert Harding
But for now - all I can do is sleep and pray - it's 04:30 here.
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
Hi Robert...You know About Iran president Election... The Government Cheet in Vote of People and they Changed Vote for Ahmadinezhad
- RokhSaare
I'm hearing some rumors on twitter now that foreign reporters are being asked (forced?) to leave... but I'm sure Iranians will continue broadcasting information.
- Ryan - @magicofpi
Usually a coup refers to the opposition taking over the government - not the government retaining control (confusing how this used today)
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
mamoot: reports from the media covering protests has seen the unrest spreading to other cities and towns outside of Tehran. It must be difficult to get that sort of news if you are in Tehran with the communications limits imposed.
- Debi Jones
People Come Out From Their House and went to the Streetsss for Get Their Vote..Government Restrict all Of Phone Lines and Sms Services..And Most of sites are filtering by Telecomunication Organization....Yesterday and Last NIght most of people couldn't have a relation with another persoan
- RokhSaare
Rob: Maybe they mean coup as in "a successful move," although that's still a bad word choice.
- Ryan - @magicofpi
Rob, I think the way they used the word "coup" was to indicate it was a use of force and not law.
- Jason Nunnelley
it seems somewhat appropriate - as they were stealing power - but Khameni (sp?) was suggested to be in charge of the coup - and he is the supreme leader ... so yes. odd choice of words
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
Damn, I'm getting worried. Iran, North Korea, and we've over the last years have alienated our most important ally to help us with this, Russia
- Stephen Pickering
ماموت Those in power never give up control without a fight. Allowing the election was a mistake if they didn't intend to allow elections to effect change. Now the people have a moral ground. They were given a vote. They believe the government has defrauded them. The people will have to choose what they are willing to do now, whether to use their moral authority to deal with the rulers as though they are criminals.
- Jason Nunnelley
Stephen: This event makes it much more unlikely that Russia can oppose US-European interests as relate to Iran. This will be a huge turning point in Iran's relationship with the world
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
Agreed, it would just be a whole lot smoother without the Georgia thing and the missles in Poland.
- Stephen Pickering
Huge problem for countries ruled by religious fanatics. Fortunately we got rid of that in the west centuries ago. You cannot have a country ruled by a religious order because they think they cannot do anything wrong. They are the word of God and God will not let them do so. Of course there is no logic to that and no evidence to prove they themselves actually believe that. But they are...
- Gilbert Harding
true Stephen, but this is something that even Russia is not going to be able to defend. Especially if the arrests of the reformist is true. That's the sure sign of undemocratic practice, and unfair elections.
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
Gilbert? I think we have plenty of religious extremists trying to (and succeeding) running this country. (not quite as extreme as in Iran, but extreme nonetheless) We have not yet in 200+ years put this to rest. The church being the ruler is put to rest, yes. But, plenty of fundamental extremists hold office.
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
Rob that's true and evedent to us outside the US. But it's the same everywhere, the Government doesn't want to upset the voters and if a major proportion of voters are religious nuts you go along with it.
- Gilbert Harding
Dear robert reporting from tehran : phones are back but we have a big problem in out internet backbone ..they banned most of the sites and droped most of the stm16 lines in lct
- جـوان ایرانی
Thank you to all the brave folks from Iran helping us understand what is going on over there. Stay safe and continue to fight for what you believe in. The entire world is watching, Good night all.
- Brian Daniel Eisenberg
There is no doubt we are living in interesting times. I just hope the true meaning of that old Chinese saying doesn't prevail.
- Gilbert Harding
Jannifer: nah, just doing a lot of reading and thinking about the events of the past few hours. Thank you to all my friends in Iran. I hope to get there someday and hope you all are safe.
- Robert Scoble
Friendfeed in Farsi. Amazing bit of far-sightedness on some ones part.
- Gilbert Harding
Gilbert: for some reason friendfeed got a lot of overseas fans. The friendfeed team noticed this and has added features for these groups (Iran, Turkey are two I remember). It is indeed very smart, but Silicon Valley has thousands of Iranians, so it's a brilliant way to have your service spread from Silicon Valley to other countries.
- Robert Scoble
Robert: What we need now is a universal translator. I'm sure some of these guys are being very interesting. It's a shame we in the West can't read them. But yes a smart move on the part of the Iranian community in Silicon Valley. My point was that in the light of current events it was also a fortuitous move.
- Gilbert Harding
Is Flickr still available in Iran? I know it's blocked in the UAE, but that's because of the availability of images of women showing a tad too much flesh. Hypocrisy gone bloody mad.
- Gilbert Harding
Those in charge in Iran would do well to remember what happened to Ceauşescu in Romania.
- Gilbert Harding
Gilbert, I think they prefer the Tiananmen Square events.
- Amit Morson
ماموت, for the middle east and everyone's sake, I hope you make it.
- Amit Morson
Amit, they may prefer that scenario but will they get it? As I said earlier, the change has to come from within. There must be no intervention from outside Iran. Least of all from the US.
- Gilbert Harding
Agreed with Gilbert. - "That's why Iran's most prominent reformers, including Nobel-laureate Shirin Ebadi, have said the best thing the U.S. can do is step back and let Iran's indigenous human rights movement progress on its own, without overt involvement from the U.S-however well intentioned." (from http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009...)
- Ryan - @magicofpi
Ryan agreed. Well I'm happy to say it's a fine day here in the UK and I'm taking my wife out for a walk. So thanks for the interesting conversation chaps. Have a nice day. Night, Evening, wherever you are and stay safe.
- Gilbert Harding
just watched Aljazera on the Iran situation, just woke up
- Kim Landwehr
That's why in case of 'troubles' in a Country, whatever the reason why, the Internet 'd never be interrupted, and Bloggers & FriendFeeders/Twitterers/Facebookers "protected'/non-insolated/'wise'". My encouragements to your wife, Robert.
- Thierry R. Andriamirado
Uh..of all the news I saw on Iran today, CNN had the most. ALL cable networks pretty much dropped the ball.
- geoff hines
CNNi is pretty much the only one I'm seeing with any coverage today.
- Mark "Rizzn" Hopkins
This whole event must be extremely difficult for Maryam, you and your entire family. I hope this ends peacefully, but I am thinking the country is at a major tipping pint (i.e. revolution)
- Susan Beebe
I didn't read all the comments, but from what I read you're only getting one vision of this news from my Iranian friend. The other fact is, in the last week, Mousavi kept telling his followers that we are the winner if there's no fraud. The election was held and they lost. So the only way to justify it is to say that there was fraud and they cheated and so on. Actually they don't have any proof of it yet.
- Seltoon
The other fact is, every riot in the whole world is acted like that, even in EU or US, That's the way it is. So these clashes were expected to happen.
- Seltoon
I'm 21 and a student. There's no need to call me that. It's good to hear both sides of the story
- Seltoon
I visited Kevin Marks at Google today. Here's the video of what he showed me: http://www.blip.tv/file... -- how to make your blog more social by adding FriendConnect to it. More details shortly here:
I shot this with my Canon 5D MKII. Unfortunately I have to manually focus and everytime I do that the noise from me manipulating the camera gets transfered to the video. Sorry about that. Still learning how to use this new equipment. This is the kind of video we'll be doing more of for Building43.com.
- Robert Scoble
I shot this in 1080p on my Canon, brought the file into iMovie, saved it out at a lower bit rate, uploaded it via TubeMogul.com which pushed it over to Blip.tv. Pretty good quality for on camera microphone. I was using a fixed 24mm F2.8 lens.
- Robert Scoble
I look forward to this integration as well.. maybe over the weekend
- Sardar Mohkim Khan
I hope to make a lot more "how to" videos for http://www.building43.com -- what do you think? Do you like these? If so, we'll do more from other companies too.
- Robert Scoble
Considering the room we were in was just fluorescent lights, the colour came out pretty well. Nice camerawork.
- Kevin Marks
really cool video. I tried friendconnect on my blog, but because of my small blog community, it didn't show much friends, so I uninstalled it. But watching this video makes me want to install it again :)
- xavier vespa
Kevin: this camera (the Canon 5D Mark II) rocks. The more I use it the more I fall in love with it. Only problem is it's a bit tough to manually focus and that also causes audio "clicks" to be generated. I'll work on that, we're getting external microphones for these. Both Rocky and I have a 5D MKII now.
- Robert Scoble
interesting, Blip was displaying the MP4 file up to now. In the background it was transcoding to Flash. Now it's playing the Flash and the quality isn't nearly as nice. The full MP4 is here: http://blip.tv/file... -- much better quality, if your computer can display it.
- Robert Scoble
I've had friendconnect on my blog for a while, it's been great. Google chatback is great for interacting with visitors to the blog, too.
- Iain Baker
It's nice to watch an interview where the image is so sharp.
- Richard A.
Can everyone play the MP4? If so, this quality freaking rocks!!!! Check this out if you can play it: http://a1.video3.blip.tv/0020000... Richard, you ain't kidding! It's amazing that I can shoot and deliver this quality now from an SLR that isn't even optimized for video!
- Robert Scoble
The quality is really good but the shallow DOF is a bit of a problem when viewing Kevin's laptop screen.
- Yuval Atzmon
Yuval: yup, and that's with a 24mm F2.8 lens. Makes it hard to focus, too, because the screen is too small to see properly (you can't focus through the lens, because the mirror is up to allow light to go to the sensor). I'll get the hang of it, though, and I'll also play around with fstops to get more depth of field.
- Robert Scoble
In the flash video version I can see jumps when the camera is moved fast. Will try mp4 version. Edit: The download took serious time, server had a low bandwidth... quality of the video is great, but I still have horizontal and angular cuts when camera moves back and forth between his face and the laptop screen. Might be because of my refresh rate and/or DirectX-graphic card version though.
- ilter
Watching the mp4 feed via Silverlight 3 beta 1 which now supports mp4 video, playback, quality very good, but agree about shallow DOF issue.
- Martin Duffy
I like the idea of more "How-To" video's. However, I would consider taking the time to do more editing. Like how about having the interview cut between you and him talking, to a screencast that is nice and clean/visible. Basically, keep the great dialog but improve the video of the screen you are both talking about.
- Kevin Keeney
Kevin: we will try to do more, especially as we construct building43.com since we have two camera and Rocky does editing but I have tried to do this several times and it is pretty tough to justify/do. Why? One reason I get the access I do is because I don't take much time. Doing this would require a lot more time and access to the interviewee's computer. Not to mention editing time, which costs money. Keep in mind I am mostly playing around right now until we get building43 up and running in May.
- Robert Scoble
I'm still wondering, what can FriendConnect do for new blogs, not the static ones?
- Toni @ NavinoT
Robert & everyone, I'm trying to listen in on these conversations for Building43. Regarding the comment about doing screencasts (time and cost), what if you could do both simultaneously? Robert, you could do your video for the live interaction effect while the demo/interviewee is processing the screencast and edited/voiced over later. Using something like Jing could achieve this but its just a thought.
- Jason Cronkhite
Just enabled this on my site interested to see if it draws people into the conversation. Feel free to stop by KnowtheNetwork.com
- Keith - @tsudo
Pardon the hijack, but I'd love to get people's recommendations for screenscasting software ... looking at SlideShare and Evernote....
- Richard pancakhaus Walker
Love the How To video, more please. Would be interesting to see Facebook Connect as a comparison, although guess its slightly different? ;-)
- Steven Horner
@Richard - neither of those are screencasting software
- andy brudtkuhl
nice, been using friend connect for a while, glad you got it working
- Wayne Sutton
Glad you finally got it up on your blog Robert, now add some gadgets.
- Kevin Marks
yeah, open standars will be good. i'm hoping.
- rama mamuaya
The article's analogy to when AOL "opened up" internet email to the masses scares me to death.
- Jon Adair
We need decent FriendFeed to Facebook integration. Going via Twitter isn't the best solution.
- Peter Kelley
Interesting that there are so many retweets, and so few comments. What is there to say in the moments before Facebook eats Twitter?
- Cliff Gerrish
Seeing integration for FriendFeed where we can comment on Facebook entries directly, see more data flow over from Facebook to FriendFeed (sans every annoying notification about every quiz someone takes) will be very nice.
- Kevin Kuphal
Actually, I think Twitter can be saved in several ways. I think they could come out on top if they really kicked things in gear differently. Been blogging some thoughts on that,
- Ken Camp
I agree with the comments about open standards. Along those lines, I don't think choosing a platform needs to be an all or nothing decision. The redundancy and additional reach that multiple platforms provides now is very beneficial. Inter-service messaging would be helpful and annoying if you are tracking multiple services, but there would be a way to "tool" around that issue.
- Larry Roth
Shouldn't Twitter be saving itself? Why would it be up to the users to save Twitter? And re: standards - the word 'open' is redundant. You just need a standard that works to transport messages between the services.
- Cliff Gerrish
I'd admit it...I was getting a little misty-eyed. Hard not to.
- CAJ, somewhere else
When will Simon Cowell bag the ugly ass haircut?
- Alex Scoble
I love these things. Worth watching.
- Robert Scoble
Robert, agreed. I wish the iphone had the ability to send a link to a youtube video quickly so this could be sent to my daughters today
- LPH™ and his dog P™
I wish they tuned down the audience a bit... Could barely hear her at times
- Mark Philpot
this lady certainly has a voice! good for her i say for being brave. :)
- Tatty Gibson
OMG, I'm in tears here. That was lovely and wow that song with all that. Had to favorite it. </sentimental wimp>
- Admiral Anika
Is good to see what nature can do. Incredible voice!
- Rafael
That's a magnificent clip, I wish America's Got Talent was so entertaining and surprising.
- Jonathan Coffman
i watched this last night, love her! Her voice is a true gift.
- Laura Zickus
Thanks for sharing that - perfect for this time of year
- Jesse Stay
She's this year's Paul Potts. Great voices, the pair of them.
- Mark H
That was just amazing. And the perfect song for both her situation and to start the waterworks. Now i have to follow the show and see if she wins.
- Kevin Fox
While I absolutely detest these shows, I must say, this woman got to me.
- Rob Michael (Atmos Trio)
Oh, Duh. Got it, Kevin. This reminds me of the British man who sang opera. It was unbelievable. I think our American shows shoudn't limit the age. I'd love to see what some of the older folks here can do.
- Dawn
Dawn, America's got talent doesn't limit age either
- Jesse Stay
Great! I was thinking of American Idol. Never seen America's Got Talent.
- Dawn
"so you think you can dance" limits at 30 years or so. Such a shame.
- Kevin Fox
"So that's just one side of me!" Hahaha. So nice, she's courageous and willing, good game! So modest to have her walk away after her performance, I'm almost crying.
- ElijahBailey-Zu of FF <0,
Wow. I usually avoid all of these types of shows. But that was very cool!
- Louis Gray
I actually felt a lump form in my throat. Good for her.
- cecily
As LG said, it's my first view of that. Damn talents' shows, they got me.
- ElijahBailey-Zu of FF <0,
Not bad! I still prefer this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch... - That said, it was a surprisingly good performance. Not as much as Paul Potts, who was entirely horripilative and transcendent.
- david beckwith
This was a surprise--and lovely, thx
- susan mernit
Awesome performance. I've never seen the look of pleasant surprise on Simon's face before. You could tell that even he enjoyed it. He still needs to get a better haircut though.
- Alex Scoble
Britain may have talent, but that's more than I can say for Simon Cowell. The man is the Antichrist, as far as i'm concerned.
- Iain Baker
He was a tamed little kitteh for 6 minutes during that performance though.
- Alex Scoble
Don't know enough about Cowell to make a value judgement on the man. Sometimes (and I don't know if this is the case with Cowell) the a-hole attitude is a public front. It's possibly the case with Gordon Ramsey, and it certainly is with Ann Robinson - I've been to a recording of 'The Weakest Link' at Pinewood Studios, and she switches 'bitch mode' on and off along with the cameras.
- Ian May
Wow! Brings back memories when I first saw paul potts...
- Jorg Jansen
Seriously? This reeks of scripted viral. The show caught (online) fire in '07 with the Paul Potts audition...arguably the hottest shared video of the year. When the show returned last year, there wasn't an act even minutely close to the WOM impact Potts had generated the privious year. Clearly the BGT online buzz strategy for '09... Potts 2.0. #fail
- Zach Lytwyn
The best thing about this thread is that there is really only one cynical jaded comment out of all of them.
- cecily
Watching Simon's eyes go wide was soooooo worth it.
- Great Scott!
ahh, the power of the edit. great job of making her look like a 'cat lady' for the first several minutes. all the more powerful when we find out she's not totally daft.
- MikeAmundsen
That is one courageuos woman with an amazing voice. Goosebumps all over.
- Jochen Lillich
@scottmonty 2010 Ford Transit Connect; Does Ford Do ANY USA consumer research or do they just "hope" this will work? - http://www.mediapost.com/publica...
Ultimately, says Hurt, the success of the vehicle will depend on whether that "white space" is real or a mirage. (What research is there to make these gambles?) I really don't get it. Ford is "Hoping?" I'm "hoping" that Obama will pay my bills for me, is it that kind of "hope?" Ford is hoping that consumers -- particularly small-business owners -- will climb over each other for one, as there hasn't been anything like it since Chevrolet discontinued the Astro (and GMC Safari) four years ago.
- Jim Peake
from Bookmarklet
This pervasive notion that auto companies don't do any consumer research needs to stop. Does anyone honestly believe that multimillion dollar decisions are being made without any input from the target market? Here's a little detail on exactly what has happened so far with the Transit Connect. First of all, this is a *concept vehicle*, meaning that it's not a production model; it's designed to get feedback from consumers.
- Scott Monty
Second, we had a number of people in the field, interacting with families to determine their needs. We met them at children's museums, parking lots, bus stops, daycare centers and more. For people who don't want a minivan for aesthetic or cultural reasons, they still need the functionality & space; plus, many 5+2 vehicles don't have much functional/useable space in the 3rd row. We found that families will trade some size & space for better fuel economy, better ride & handling, and a lower price.
- Scott Monty
"BeachTek is happy to announce their new DXA-5D XLR adapter that has been highly anticipated for the Canon 5D Mark II camera" - A box that fits on the bottom of your 5D so that you can plug in some serious mic technology

I think an important element to this that isn't immediately obvious (if you don't click through) is that this is addressed to Gary Vaynerchuk of Wine Library TV, who has started to use a video as an email auto-responder: http://tv.winelibrary.com/garyvs-...
- Mark Trapp
