How do they decide on the suggestions? All but one of the twitter users suggested to me have nothing to do with the topics of the people I already follow, and the only one I clicked on to follow turned out to have latest tweet in Feb 2007.
- Isha (Marysia)
That post is like gold dust to me. Trying to do my link building during my day job and all we got here is IE6 that seems to hang up on everything. Is there a button to like something like a billion times?
- Seang-Lim Tan
Thanks Alison, nice post. Good information and ideas to get the simple things right.
- Alistair (alpinefolk)
Thanks for this. What a great refresher. Cheers!
- Victoria Player
Is this the new feature? Very freaking cool.
- Ross Goldberg
If your watching the real time stream - then yes it is - The KEY is how you customise it - and the fact that you can comment on the fly and not have it reorder like the desktop apps do - brilliant piece of programming and has the potential to totally upsurp the whole chat/forum system with something that is way more interactive!!
- Ed Dale
It also allows you to quickly unsubscribe from people who are just using friendfeed for SEO purposes. IT's Really really big
- Ed Dale
I have to agree, this is a very cool, very game-changing feature.
- Chris Abernethy
It sure is Chris - all those follow you - follow me twitter types should be over here - where you can actually have a conversation properly in a medium that is designed to host it - this is a GAME CHANGER
- Ed Dale
Because of you Ed, I had my Twitter account for a year, then the odd situation of my friends all suddenly getting on and preaching to ME about Twittering...
- Sam Longoria
I'm so glad you're a professional noticer Ed. This real-time thing really opens up the conversation. I can see it being way better than trying to use Twitter for something it was never really designed to do. Can't wait for the IE report on this...
- SteveH
Thanks for making sense of it all Ed! I remember the old days of twitter when you gave us the heads up -it was so random then you'd have to be highly intuitive to get that it was going to evolve into something big.
- Rebecca Kellock
This is so much easier than trying to follow a conversation on Twitter. I imagine it will be better for cultivating relationships too.
- Shannon
Exactly Shannon!!! - if your going to chat - why not use all this leverage as well!
- Ed Dale
I've never replied/responded to anyone on twitter, this is just so much easier.
- Stuart Fraser
Ed said feedfriend is seo friendly; we good guys will get benefit just because we add value 2 the hungry google beast & 2 readers
- Johan Horak
afraid I am missing what the fuss is all about, from a marketing point of view
- Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
Hi Joelle, everyone who just subscribed to ed's feed, just saw your message. Imagine now if you provide valuable insights to the community and they subscribe to you about. It allows you to utilize Ed's exposure, and build your own community.

Hi all. For those of you interested in the technical side of these real time updates, the technology is known as 'Comet'. I've been looking at the Glassfish server - https://glassfish.dev.java.net... - which is an open source implementation of the Java EE application server, which can do this.
- Stuart
you can do comet on pretty much every server platform, the only annoyance being the httpd spec connection limit. FF have no problems since they have only 1 comet entity.
- Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
i am eagerly waiting for the FF filters that will allow to filter per person per app, so i will be able to filter out some people who tweet a lot which I want to follow, and the filtering will be either ban one app but not another, but also keywords, or even better, only what other friends have liked or commented. That will be powerful
- Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
Nice clear simple guidelines for what Clickbank products are worth even looking at promoting. Again, it's all about doing the research first!!

Hello, still trying out AWEBER...they have excellent customer service, but there software is not that user friendly. I have used Icontact in the past and am thinking of going back to them for my mass marketing needs...anyone else email opt in and auto responder suggestions?
Also, I have just posted a new article on http://www.richhowto.com . I used an inline form in the blog post, but it didn't turn out very well. Any suggestions on getting it in a niffty looking box?
- Michael Roberts
I used an online form maker for my hypno site at http://www.jotform.com - never really got to grips with the autoresponder stuff, hope that is of some help though
- David
I have used iContac for about 3 years now. It's alright. I have also used Aweber which I found easy and powerful much the same as iContact. The one I found very cumbersome and difficult to get my head around was Getresponse. What a pain. I would never recomend it to anyone.
- Greg Martin
Michael, I have tried GetRespone auttoresponders before and I have found it pretty user friendly. They have a free version so you can try it out. You can gett it free here - http://www.getresponse.com/orderfr..., have a nice day, Don
- Don Kerns
Thank you Don, though Greg didn't seem to think it was very user friendly, but I can take a peek at it! I just wish there was a really good software package out there. Aweber is pretty powerful but isn't very user friendly and are missing a few essential features in my opinion. Thanks all =)

Have just submitted my website page to social bookmarking. Ed only gives us 4 to submit to, does anyone else submit to other bookmark sites and is it worth doing it?
Propeller.com, Digg.com, Del.icio.us, Stumbleupon.com, Twitter.com, Reddit.com, Furl.net, Diigo.com - Thats all I do, I only really see traffic from the first four anyway:).
- Elliot Webb
Same for me. See real real result with Digg and Stumbleupon. Also submit article to Google. Using Stumleupon don't forget to update your profile and also play the game. Bookmark other pages than you own, you will have more results. Just tried new place to submit blog: http://www.blogcatalog.com/ Don't know yet if it is good but it seems to worth the try. If anyone have heard about it let me know.

I've heard recently that Google is paying lots of attention to what goes through GReader; so it might be a thought to also subscribe to your own RSS feeds (and maybe get your friends to do it too). I figure it's like chicken soup -- it can't hurt . . .
- LJF Wolffe
Smart Alec. 8-) Think willowbark tea, or your favorite cure-all. If nothing else, it gives the Big G one more nudge to go look at your site . . .

Anyone know how to make pop up windows in Flock larger? I have had several non-ad pop ups open up and I can't scroll or enlarge the window to see what I need to see. Searching google was NO help.
There are addons for Firefox/flock which let you set what controls show on popup windows (eg size controls, menu) but I can't for the life of me find them now. If I do, I'll let you know!
- Kevin Wilson
This "feature" is a common headache in firefox and flock. That's what happens when developers only test against Internet Explorer. sigh
- MyklK (Michael K)
Type: 'about:config' without quotes into your location bar. Type 'feature' without quotes to the Filter: box. Double click dom.disable_window_open_feature.resizable (the value column will change to true), then see if you can resize the popups :)
- Paul King
from twhirl
Not sure if this will fix problem (not really sure what prob is) but try: Flock - Tools - Options - Content - Advance (top) - Allow script to Move Resize Window enable
- Richard Gee
Susan, You should go the route that Paul describes in the About config: that should let you resize it.
- Ron"micronet"Harwood
@Richard, The "Allow script to Move Resize Window enable" is to allow other web sites to control resize and moving of your window. This can be set to your preference. :•)
- Ron"micronet"Harwood
Paul IS King! Thank you SOOO much. That seems to have been the fix I needed. My next test will be to see if it works when I need to print a shipping label via Paypal...those pop ups have been the most annoying! Thanks again!
- Susan Whitehead
What Paul said :) No wonder I couldn't find the addon when it was an about:config tweak!
- Kevin Wilson
Yeh this is cool. I have RSS'd this into Google Reader. 30DC is really helping me become more pro about online marketing. Awesome stuff here.
- Greg Martin
Is there an order in preference in choosing between .me .mobi ..biz or .us?
- Bjorn Weisser
sorry (finger slip). what's your business name and niche? I'm sure you can find a good domain name even though the obvious ones are taken. besides, if you do the job of promoting it right, it doesn't matter what you domain name is - I mean, who knew (or knows today) what the word Google means a few years ago?!
- Tommy Gordon
from twhirl
I just got a reply from Caro on this. I should use my phrase+blog.com if possible. I guess .com is the way to go even if you have to hyphen it or add blog to it. Thanks for the help. this challenge beats any extremely difficult soduku puzzle.
- Bjorn Weisser
absolutely right. check out http://tattoo-ideas-4u.com (an old domain of mine) it took a little time, but it has quite a few visitors every day with a long hyphenated name.
- Tommy Gordon
from twhirl
Remember to check out expiring domains as well. A good domain age and some links already in place is a great way to attract Google quickly. I've done this for one of my sites.
- Mark
http://www.makewords.com/ good site for ideas, check the Keyword theme box at the top for variations. Try not to go for .info as I heard somewhere the big G didn't like it. You can add-- the, my, our, etc or go for a plural as long as you have the main keyword/phrase
- Carmel Baird
using Tommy's tattoo site as an example because I have a plural phrase also, what other things might work? I thought of 4all or maybe putting 101 in front.
- Kelly
I've had great success with .com, .net. .co.uk and .info and have NOT seen a problem to be honest. The key is good 'on site' SEO and then backlinks. (I wouldn't get too tied up with the extension! ;0)

I have 7 micro niches all within a niche. Do I need a landing page for each micro niche's keyword phrase, or can I have them all on one site under different catagories?
Roy, here's what I'm doing... I have a niche market with a whole pile of qualified keywords. I am regestering a domain name for the easiest one to rank for as per the SEO competition scale. Since these are all related, I will then go back and create sub-domains later on. Although, since this is using a blog platform you could essentially just setup one blog and create seperate pages for each keyword on the blog... (Second thought, that's what I'll probably do... setup different pages on one blog)
- Mike Hill
from twhirl
@Mike Hill Can I do this with an Amazon Affiliate aStore?
- Roy Gould
Roy the answer to that prolly lies in how much if any upfront money you want to put out as far as buying domain names for each one. Now from what I know, someone please correct me if this has changed, Google views subdomains as a domain in its own right. So if you use the free hosting on one of wordpress directs sites you could have a different blog for each one.
- Curtis Miller
Roy now that I have seen the software I would create one site with your very best keyword (most promising) and then create pages/categories for the remaining keywords you have that qualify...
- Mike Hill
from twhirl
Roy that is exactly my plan, luckily most of my micro-niche phrases contain my main phrase, massive lsi and siloing potential this way. That is why I will be using pages and categories.
- Mark Myers
Thank you I want to try and be circumspect because I want to protect my keyword phrases. Let's just say that I am offering a form of media. I have keyword phrases that pertain to different titles within the same genre. So, for instance, would I use the genre keyword phrase for a WP blog with affiliate links to the product in Amazon? Or would I link to my aStore? What about the other 6 distinct keyword phrases that fall under the genre heading.? How do I exploit those without giving them each a separate page?
- Roy Gould
You could use a Silo Structure for the main phrases and sub-phrases. There are plugins for wordpress that build a silo for you automatically. You could do it yourself using categories and setting up a URL structure that uses the category in the URL (also a plugin in wordpress).
- Craig Eubanks
The video says you have your main phrase at the top of the list of all keywords for the site. Obviously, each post you add will be in one category, so that will take care of that...
- Frann Leach
Craig what is the name of the plugin you're talking about? Wouldn't setting your permalinks to %category%postname% do the same thing?
- liz
Me too! I submitted a problem ticket for this. I am having the same problem with the work around solution too.
- Debbie
I like the option to spend some $ Well done.

that's what is so great about 30DC. Even though there are some youngsters on the block, this is a bunch of people who can take the heat in the kitchen. The pressure from learning so much new stuff is huge. Its taking me way out of my little comfort zone and I am luvvin it!

Wow - even more juicy information for us to play with - imagine seeing heat maps of search queries! Awesome upgrade (again) from Google.
