yes i believe that the next update to google docs, spreadsheets etc is called google wave and has been purposely designed to allow for group sharing and document modifications etc so it might be worth while keeping an open mind. However a ff room should be ok for now and we may not need the additional functionality! - hughmac

I think we should stay with the program and use google groups... if the 30dc is using it then there must be a reason and it may cause some confusion to fragment things with other systems...just a thought - Dave Dunn

As long as you are up to date & understanding how the different bits work, then once 30DC starts you will see how it all fits together. As far as Facebook goes, at the moment, all you need to do is find friends & use Facebook to communicate with them - Steve

I am having a few problems:- still getting the bouncy box with seesmic and can not connect my facebook account, tried the suggestions on the forum but still no success. Spent all day yesterday trying to register social bookmarking accounts with social bookmarker and last pass and had issues. Found it is quicker to register individually to each site and hope this will not be a problem later with social bookmarker for posting. And still need to catch up with the download files. Getting there slowly. - Etena

mmmh etena comments are a little concerning. I'm a newbie to 30DC and have followed all of Ed preseason stuff. So far it hasn;t mentioned anything about having book marking accounts. Should I have some accounts? Which ones? Ed talks about delicious etc but as yet, he hasn;t done a tutorial on any of these. What should I do? Go ahead and start frantically registering with all these services or just wait and see what Ed suggests? - Max

Up to date with all the preseason myself... Max, last year they used a service called socialmarker.com which lets you bookmark sites really quickly... you'll probably want to look through the list of bookmarking sites on there. The big ones to go for would be digg, propellor, reddit, delicious & possibly technorati... but you'll also want all of the ones that are ticked when you press "dofollow", as google loves these :) - Sean Lloyd-Booth

Sorry, Max didn't mean to put you off. The 30dc is brilliant and I would recommend it to anyone and although preseason can be a bit overwhelming, all will become clear when we start the challenge in August. I think it may be my computer that was having issues with social marker as it didn't work very easily for me so I tried to find my own solution. I am a newbie to book marking, social marking so I probably did something wrong. - Etena

Hey Etena... Yeah I signed up to all the sites manually (i.e. without social marker), but once you've signed up to most of them then that's when it becomes useful. All it is really is a site where all the social bookmarking sites can be viewed in once place... if you open up multiple tabs up in firefox with all the different sites in, and if your pretty quick at copying & pasting the info in, then it wont save you a great deal of time :) - Sean Lloyd-Booth

Hi Sean Lloyd-Booth.. This was what I found, it was quicker opening up several tabs and signing in that way. I also set my preferences and settings to private within these sites until I am ready to use them or have learned more about them. I expect that i will need to change these settings to public or friends when I am ready to bookmark or post? This was just my personal preference. - Etena

Nah setting them to private should be fine... I think that means that people can't look at your private details, anything you post will be visible to everyone :) - Sean Lloyd-Booth

If you're looking for a simple portable player then VLC 1.0.0 just came out (along with a portable version). It's very light weight and runs many different kinds of media formats. I could be missing something, though. I'm not sure exactly what you need from iTunes. But Media Monkey could be a great alternative. - Nicholus

That would be a good start. You can review Dan's tips on making better copy. There are many resources on the subject out there. I couldn't get Mass Control, but I found out the videos Frank put out for the launch were great in this particular area. - Jorge Blanco
