The importance of community. If you have a wonderful community at Friendster, or AOL, or Yahoo, why change just because your community's service provider is uncool? Now if your community migrates elsewhere, of course, the situation changes.

I wonder why it is, though, that N American Friendster users migrated en masse to Myspace, Facebook, or first one then the other, but Filipino Friendster users stayed put.

It may be that a lot of people came into the game later, after the mass migrations had already happened. And sometimes it's good to be the majority and not have to deal with North Americans.
