I am thinking about getting a netbook. Any advice?
I use an eee pc 1000h -- it's great, recommend it highly - Dave Winer
I ordered an Eee PC 1000H after several recommendations, haven't gotten it yet though, so can't give any personal experience. - Daniel Bruce
EEE PC 1000H. I have an EEE PC 901 and my brother 1000H. The last one is better. - alinmechenici
How's the battery life on it? - Karoli
I hear OS X works well on the Wind... - Alexander Carlill
I've been doing some research on this. Here's a vid: http://video.google.ca/videose... - B2B Specialist
I have an Acer Aspire One (Linux) and love it. It helps if you live inside the browser and don't need apps. - Andy Beal
@Andy That is definitely my MO. How is the UI/keyboard? - Steve Rubel
I thought you had a MacBook Air? A netbook is much smaller but a lot less power. And a smaller screen is not that good for the eyes. - Digerati Asia
@Hacker that's correct. It's a discretionary purchase to say the least! That's why it's just a thought right now. - Steve Rubel
I've heard a lot of good things about the Dell Mini 9, esp. re: OSX. I'm thinking about getting one myself. - Rubin Sfadj
I'm looking into a netbook too - what are the limitations to connecting to the enterprise? i.e., file xfer over VPN. - Bill Sanders
i still love my lenovo ultra-portable...i've spilled coffee on it and it didn't break...thing is a champ -- get a 12", you'll be really happy with it, definitely the best size. 13.3 is too big, 10" is too small: http://tinyurl.com/3amkdy - Adam Singer
Dave Winer: I love my white one too. :D It's absolutely "eye candy". - Erhan Erdoğan
Karoli: It's around 4 hours(at high performance, while full workin) 6-7 hours(power saving+in a slow day) - Erhan Erdoğan
MSI Wind or HP Mini 1000 - James Kendrick
@James What do you think of the Mini9? And are netbooks redundant for a MacBook Air user like me? - Steve Rubel
I drool over the MSI Wind myself - Michael W. May from twhirl
I have an air, so I think they are redundant. - Francine Hardaway
Some people have big problems with MSI Wind and Apple routers. I was one of them. Still get comments on my blog post about it, got one today. If you use an Airport of some ilk, you may have to return the computer. Make sure you can. http://bit.ly/coxx - Dave Winer
@Dave I read that in my research. - Steve Rubel from IM
Samsung NC10 seems to be the best 10" netbook at the moment: http://www.umpcportal.com/product... - Ben L.
Dave W., Steve R.: Oh! After Friendfeed, world of geeks get smaller. : ) - Erhan Erdoğan
@Steve I do think that a netbook is not going to buy you much since you have an Air. They are mostly for those with heavier/ bigger notebooks who want small and light to carry around. Plus they are not Macs. - James Kendrick
@James that's where I am netting out too. Still, I want to be part of the cool kids club! - Steve Rubel
I must be the only geek in the world who sees no reason for wanting a netbook - Deepak Singh
I got the MSI Wind and I really like it. Keyboard is a good size, but the one button for rt-clicking is kind of hard to get used to, but that's alright. $399 at Best Buy! - Sarah Perez
What is the average resolution on netbooks like the Acer Aspire or ASUS Eee PC? - Mitch
I found my answer: 1024x600. That's a bit of a turn-off for me. - Mitch
I just ordered an MSI Wind; intending to run OS X on it. - Chuck Lawson
Samsung NC10 - Jamie
I've had a few friends rave about the Acer's over here, but I don't know what their market availability is in the States. http://www.trustedreviews.com/noteboo... - Ed Richardson
These look nice . . . http://www.engadget.com/2008... surely you can't go wrong with a red netbook! - Ed Richardson
I have a UIMPC, an Ultra-Immoble-Personal-Computer. My Dell Latitude's battery so fried that I need to stay plugged in. Waiting for laptop to die so that I can get a new one, perhaps a real UMPC :) - Mike Reynolds
Steve - no surprise here but I'd suggest getting a Dell Mini 12, though @gapingvoid really like the Mini 9. I'm waiting for the 12 given the thickness of my fingers :). - Bruce Eric Anderson
Since 95% of the components are the same in netbooks, I'd look at the 5% differences. Some will meet your requirements, while some won't. Example: need a full-sized, correctly place Right-Shift key? Some have 'em and some don't. Do you have any special requirements for your computing needs? - Kevin C. Tofel
