Dubai Carbon Neutral Pyramid will House 1 Million
"The ginormous pyramid will cover 2.3 square kilometers and will be able to sustain a “community” of up to 1 million. Timelinks claims that their Ziggurat will be capable of running completely off the grid by utilizing steam, wind, and other natural resources. The tightly knit city will also feature a super efficient public transportation system that runs both horizontally and vertically, and plans are being drawn up to utilize both public and private green spaces for agricultural opportunities" - Andrew Baron

Well, an ant would have a much higher chance of survival due to the fact that it is less likely to be hit. If the ant was hit by some portion of the speeding train, then it is certain death. After all, a speeding shoe is also certain death for an ant. - Rishabh Mishra (p248)

10 Suggestions To Improve FriendFeed's Beta - http://www.louisgray.com/live...
Well put, Louis - I think you covered all my frustrations - Jesse Stay
2, 5, 7, 8 are my favorites. I'd also like to add the ability to hide certain post that match a keyword, e.g. McCain etc.. - Tibor Holoda
Tibor, you are right. Forgot that one. A rooms directory also seemed to small for a list of ten. - Louis Gray
Feel free to make it 11 point long, it seems everyone's a sleep still anyway ;) - Tibor Holoda
Good points. I'm particularly keen on 1, 2, 6 and 7. Reshared to Friendfeed Beta room btw. - David Young
I commented on it. Mostly love the suggestions. - Robert Scoble
1 and 10 I really like. - Johnny
#9 is essential. - Mohamed J
I'd also like to see Disqus comments to be treated as comments, which by implementing Louis suggestion in point 2, will make more sense i guess. Comments are comments, posts are posts. In case there will be no link to which the comment is added, it could work like posting a link with the Disqus comment under. Btw, @Robert, you don't have Disqus hooked up in FF ;) - Tibor Holoda
Excellent post Louis. You are pretty much spot on with those 10 suggestions. - Mike Fruchter
Tibor: I don't like Disqus pulling in comments here. Often I want different communities to remain separate. I'll manually pull in comments or point out when I've made comments that FriendFeeder's should be aware of. Like I did here. - Robert Scoble
11. add user definable font size. the new beta makes me squint :) - h1ro
#9! I hide things liberally and it does bug me, when I click on page 2, I'm seeing page 1 all over again. - Yolanda
Free booze?? - john conroy
Great suggestions Louis, I would also add: The Ability to Hide Specific RSS Feeds and Search All Entries by URL - Shey
and go-faster stripes, a background of babes in bikinis, and intermittant embedded hilarious fart noises. - john conroy
I have to so that FF has been growing well with the current feature set. Like all areas of activity contraints can sometimes be helpful. FF needs to innovate itself, rather than copy straight from Twitter (DM's), Facebook (profiles) etc. 2,4,10 are most important. The issue here is not so much what features we want as how can FF grow into a mature platform. - Roberto Bonini
Robert: I see your point, but i still think it would be a good thing to handle Disqus comments as comments, not as posts. User decides, if he wants them appear in his FF stream or not - like in your case. - Tibor Holoda
Great List Louis! #2 is my favorite one. - Peter Hoffmann
Tibor, I agree with you (Robert, when are you going to enable Disqus on your blog?). For the blog owner it's much easier to consolidate into one place if they can tie your comments straight to the FriendFeed post itself instead of an entirely new post. - Jesse Stay from twhirl
One more suggestion - tagging. I want to be able to tag individuals, both in my posts, *and* my comments if I'm talking about them or something they might be interested in. - Jesse Stay from twhirl
Excellent list. My top priority though, isn't on there - (as per Shey) renaming or separating "Blog" posts, so individuals can hide your blog vs. another "blog" .. I'd also like it easier to determine which services I am/am not showing per individual. Just give me some enable/disable checkboxes on the users page. Strands did this right. - Tim Hoeck
Great suggestions Louis. One clarification on #4 -- most people never see this "default" list because they were either invited by another user, or they import friends from email or facebook. The recommendations are then based entirely on who their other friends are, and will make a lot more sense. - Paul Buchheit
Indeed some good suggestions. My guess is that the reason that #2 (duplicates) has not been implemented yet, is that it is very tricky to do right. If they do manage to implement it and get it right, I will be very impressed. I would not be too surprised though, since Friendfeed has some really sharp people working there. - Robert Felty
Excellent List and some good suggestions in comments as well. I really would like to see 2,3,5,6, & 10. The share on FF bookmarklet should be more like Tumblr's. I would also like to be able to filter my feed to prevent duplicates. I would like to cross post my tumblr to my main blog and twitter but in doing so I create more noise for my FF stream. If I could filter out posts from blog or twitter that started with "XYZ" then I could cross post freely without worrying about FF noise. - Keith - @tsudo
@Paul, thanks for the comment. I did test by signing up to just one individual, as if they had invited me, and by changing the one person I subscribed to, the recommended friends did change. That said, if you check out recommended friends in Facebook, there's the option to "X" out people you don't want and provide more. Plaxo also does this well. - Louis Gray
Re: #1 and #8 I would like to see profile information that I can search, so I can find FF folks who are geographically near me or who are in my profession or who share a common interest with me. Great post - thanks! - Courtney McGough
Pownce should worry about #10. FF will soon have to worry about cannibalizing its data suppliers, and what that means for ongoing openness. #! & #2 are the big ones with me, and I just don't see why FF enabled fake followers. - Tinfoil 2.0
being 1st or 2nd is all that matters in that particular field.... 3rd placings and below would normally whither away - Mark L from twhirl
I am really getting confused. I just commented on the post. Now I see the comments here as posts. Totally agree with Tibor, messing posts together with comments, be it from Disqus or anywhere else, does not increase transparency. - Jan Horna
#7 - want to make sure i understand that concept of "fake follow" - home feed contains all friends by default & you can then add them to a list/grouping to subdivide them for easier readability - to remove them from the home feed you have to actually de-select them when you add them to a list and then never go to that list again - is that what "fake follow" is - if so, way to much work for no return and only lame*ss self absorbed status mongers will be doing it - imho of course :) - mike "glemak" dunn
#5 - My thought would be to make an invitation-only private room. Wouldn't this solve the partial-distribution problem? - Mitchell Tsai
Mitchell, it could, and some do, but that's a room, and not a feed. Unless the room data permeates the feed, it could get missed. - Louis Gray
I like your list. One other feature I'd like to see is to filter by service in whatever view I am in. - Jeff P. Henderson
The absolute killer feature for me would be, if FF will recognize languages of the posts, or at least to differentiate between english vs. non-english and allow filtering. Would that even be possible or did my brain just farted? :) - Tibor Holoda
(sorry for cross posting) Firstly, I'd like to add to Louis' list the capability to search rooms and then to search inside rooms. Secondly, I must confess that support for a basic profile would be useful. But as always I'd encourage the reuse of data (so importing it from whatever source the user decides). DMs might be usefull, but I haven't felt the need for them so far. - Alex Popescu
I usually don't like to speak about things that are not ready, but this post was catchy. I currently have a prototype that deals with de-duping the resource links. I haven't looked into de-duping pure messages, but my gut feeling is that this might be even easier. I hope to find the time to deploy this app sometime soon. - Alex Popescu
About private messaging: at first I thought this was a silly idea for ff, until I realized that the private messages could just show up where ff items normally show up, e.g. private comments. - j1m

Ah thanks. I think this should be available via the list "settings" link too tho, like in that "Add to friends list" action box. Kind of like the "Remove label" feature of the "More Actions" box in Gmail I guess. - Philipp Lenssen
@Philipp - I agree, and I happen to implementing that now :) - Bret Taylor
@Bret, yes thats something to do, the add /block is confusing . verbiage change to unscribe ? - Peter Dawson
One minor thing, in the gray "Add/ remove friends" box on a friends list page, there's no undo option when you remove a friend by clicking their avatar image. (By the way is there as better interface metaphor for removing someone than clicking on their avatar image?) - Philipp Lenssen
This is an interesting way to find out that people should remove me from their home feed. ;) - April Buchheit
@Peter, I thought "blocking" and "unsubscribing" were two different things. If you block someone, you'll never see their posts again, even on the "everyone" tab or in rooms (I've actually blocked one person, that's how I know.) - Laura Norvig
@Laura, its not the same, Block/subscribe buttons are available on your profile, when I click username. That is, b'coz I am not following you. However, with some1 that I am following, there is only a unscribe button. There is not block button. So for my followers, it just scribe /unscribe and with others I can Block/Subscribe. - Peter Dawson
Uh oh Paul, why are you removing April? - Jim Norris
@Jim: I know! Why does he hate me so much? I must post too many baby pictures. - April Buchheit
I immediately asked WHAT why is Paul removing April - bad example dude! LOL and NO we won't remove April...never! - Susan Beebe
April, are you being obstreperous again? - Gabe
OT: In reader, I only saw "To remove someone from your home". I was like "Wow! advice on eviction!" Then I saw the rest. - Robert Konigsberg
it would make sense to have this option on the feed list as well, otherwise we do have to go into each and every profil everytime we want to hide, but it usually is the overview where we see what we want to do. [gm script anyone?] - Nicole Simon

that is so frickin' sweet! - Jeremiah Palmer
I'm truly amazed at how good the UI is. The subtle touches like the use of blue links in just the right places or the contextual help like "How does hiding work?". Really great job. I think mioNews just became a little less useful to me, since FF now natively has friend groups. Oh well :P - Patrick Lightbody
please have an option to set font size! - h1ro
It has a great feature in allowing me to separate different people into different lists - that will be worth the whole interface change in itself. I hope that rooms also have embeddable feeds tho! - Justin Long
FF is in a frenzy. This is 16 hrs old and 3rd on my Best of the Week. Congratulations Bret and team. - Russellreno

How he still won the race at this stage is beyond me. (Phelps at left.) - Steve Rubel from Bookmarklet
an incredible finish! - Goktug Gedik
If you look at the images and ignore the arms paying attention to the body though Phelps (except for his arms) is actually in front. His arms are moving though and the other swimmers arms are just pointed forward gliding. It would be interesting to see high speed footage of the next few frames -- the ones between this and the touch (if they exist) - Brian Sullivan
great photo finish.. i remember that he is the left one so fantastic finish for him :) - Alp Çoker
is there a hi-res super-slow-motion video of this scene? - Goktug Gedik
Seems like the key information is between slides 4/8 and 5/8, rendering this frame-by-frame slightly silly. I'm also gonna quibble over the size of SI.com's top banner, forcing me to scroll down with each click. What I do like however is Phelps' arm-speed and rate of approach, awesome final push. - Marko Bon
I made an animated gif of those pics here http://picasion.com/pic2... - paisano from twhirl
Unbelivable. And thanks for that gif paisano. - Roberto Bonini
Brian, good point. I have seen the photos a few times now and didn't notice how far ahead Phelps was until you pointed out to look at their bodies. I was always focused on their hands. - Mike Boudreaux from fftogo
Love the Gif Paisano! - Marko Bon
Amazing. Cavic may have won if he hadn't tilted his head up like that. - Mike Reynolds

this is a case where traditional photo journalism would be improved with more tech.... the GIF animation is terrific; just wish it could have been done by the folks with access to the super hi-speed images. thx paisano! (& I am Italian ;) - dave mcclure
Agree Dave. Wondered why they didn't create a high-quality animated gif themselves. It's easy to do and take no time at all. Heck, they could even make it more fun like allow us to zoom in and around the swimmers to view it from different angles...top, side then underneath. heh - paisano from twhirl
Since there are over 24 frames per second even in ordinary video film, and far more than that in high motion film, we certainly could have used a few more images. Although, this is impressive and his last half stroke effort, amazing. - iSteeve
24 fps gives a picture every .04 seconds or so -- the margin of victory was .001 wasn't it? So we may actually be seing the 24 fps frames here. I am not sure about high speed cameras -- what is the fps for them -- were they actually active and is footage available? - Brian Sullivan
I used Tivo to slow this down on Saturday and was amazed at how close the finish was. What's even more amazing to me is how little NBC used the underwater cameras they had installed. I would have liked to have seen more footage from below the water - the little that they did use really illustrated the differences in technique used. - Al Stevens

Welcome Twitterers! Here, let us show you around FriendFeed's cool features...
Check out the search engine. It's like Summize, except it searches ALL data types, not just Twitter messages. - Robert Scoble
Click on the "me" tab. That shows YOU what YOU posted. But then click on the "comments" and "like" links over on the right. That shows you what you commented on, or liked. Well, unless you're looking at the me tab on MY account! - Robert Scoble
what are the best apps? just installed MySocial 24x7 the FF3 sidebar, also playing aroung with Feedalizr and Alert Thingy - Tomas Nihlen
Don't miss the "Show best of." These will show you the most popular FF items of the day, week, or month. Great way to get up to speed on what gets discussed here (and to find some new people to subscribe to). - Robert Scoble
only thing is: (and like to emphasize that: I simply miss Twitter!) Come to think of it; can we, as long as Twitter's down, do a Miss Twitter Election? - Adri Munier
Comment often. Like often. These are signals to other people that you found an item engaging and important. Soon you'll find that we're also engaging on YOUR items. - Robert Scoble
Make sure you add all your feeds. Flickr photos. Upcoming events. Twitter (so we'll know when it's back up and be able to discuss your best tweets). Your Digg and Del.icio.us accounts. And lots more. The more you put into FriendFeed the more people will engage with you. - Robert Scoble
Is this planned maintenance or more of the same? I am trying to come up with reasons why FF should continue to take second place and I still can't work it out. What am I missing? Twitter's simplicity? I just don't see Twitter as an effective conversation tool. It seems more appropriate as a one way communication tool. - Paul Jacobson from twhirl
Don't miss the "more" menu under each cluster. It does a lot. It also lets you delete comments if you start a cluster, link to a cluster, and, well, more. - Robert Scoble
Click the icons off to the left. Click a Flickr one, for instance, and you'll see all the Flickr photos from everyone you're following. Hint: if you want to see ALL Flickr photos from EVERYONE, click on the "everyone" tab first, then click the icons. - Robert Scoble
I've been resistant to this. I like the simplicity of twitter. However, I also like being on a network that actually works, so maybe it's time to go ff full time. - Adam Christie
This is a good, short intro for FF newbies. Wish someone had posted a similar note when I first joined. FF is a bit murkier than Twitter for new users. I also found http://frienderati.alltop.com/ to be very helpful. - sage brennan
When you get tired of seeing a particular FriendFeed item, just click "hide." Don't worry, that just hides it from your view. You can see hidden items at the bottom of the page. - Robert Scoble
Click on "Friend Settings." There's some cool stuff in there. This is where you can see who is subscribed to you, who you are subscribed to, some cool stats (useful after you like and comment on a bunch of stuff to learn who you like the best) and some ways to find new friends to subscribe to. Just don't subscribe to that Scoble guy, he's very noisy! - Robert Scoble
Can we all just leave Twitter? - Anthony Onumonu
Once in a while you'll see a jerk in here. Here's how to deal with them: visit their page, then at the top you'll see a link titled "Block." Don't be afraid to block jerks. That helps keep the community clean of drama for everyone. Heck, don't be afraid to block me if you don't want to see me anymore. You define yourself by who you follow and who you allow into your life. One thing: you can still see people you blocked in the "Everyone" tab. They will still show up in searches you do there. - Robert Scoble
Feel free to use the hide button as you read items, even if it is a topic your interested in. Don't worry, if more conversation occurs on the topic, it will pop back up in your feed again. I like to use this to "clear" the screen, so it isn't so cluttered and I am not re-reading something I have already seen. - Tim Hoeck from NoiseRiver
I like Twitter and will go back as soon as it's up. I used to look at it as FriendFeed vs. Twitter. It's not. They both work great together. FriendFeed is much nicer place to have a conversation. - Robert Scoble
The best thing I ever did was to add a few greasemonkey plugins like the one that removes viewed links and filter by service. It's OK now. - Calley Nye
FriendFeed's worst attribute is that it rewards people who visit often. Click "F5" to refresh your browser's page. This is especially important if you're following lots of people, or are watching the "Everyone" page (it changes every few seconds). - Robert Scoble
Is someone posting too much information? You can "filter" content by service for a user, or by a service for all users. Click the hide button, then click 'See options for hiding other items like this' - Tim Hoeck from NoiseRiver
Do a search under the Everyone tab for your city name to find FFs and topics from your local area. This ain't just a San Fran Soical party! - Johnny
If you have one of those newfangled iPhones, check out http://www.friendfeed.com/iphone - Robert Scoble
Oh one more thing....what's the deal with rooms? Do you have to make your own or can you find existing ones? - Calley Nye
@scoble but doesnt FF refresh automatically? whats the interval on the auto refresh? - Sebastian Keil
Even if you don't have an iPhone (I have a KU990), try fftogo.com. It works on most java enabled phone browsers and is a great way to fill in time when in lines - Johnny
Friendfeed defaults to showing not only the content of those who you are subscribed to, but items that were found interesting by your friends by other people. This is called 'Friend of a Friend' - If you would rather not see these entries, click 'Hide' on one of them, then use 'See more options for hiding items like this' - there will be an option to hide items from Friends of your Friend. - Tim Hoeck from NoiseRiver
Sebastian: FF does refresh automatically, but not fast enough for me. So I manually refresh it every few seconds. - Robert Scoble
Calley: I'm subscribed to a bunch of rooms (mostly cause people invite me in). They haven't become very useful to me yet, although I'm noticing a few are getting more active lately. You can see the ones I'm subscribed to by visiting my FF at http://friendfeed.com/scoblei... and clicking over on the right side. - Robert Scoble
FF is more than a aggrigator site, it's the true social. Just don't find links and publish photos, discuss them and share in the collective power of community. - Johnny
@Calley Nye (siliconcalley): You can make your own rooms if you want, or you can join others. Currently, its not immediately apparent where to find existing rooms, but there is a number of sites that have friendfeed room listings. You can also search google with something like: twitter site:friendfeed.com/rooms - I also recommend joining this room: http://friendfeed.com/rooms... - Tim Hoeck from NoiseRiver
if Twitter was micro-blogging, would FF be classed as macro-blogging? - Johnny

OMG, i didn't know there's a Scoble script allowing FF users to add Scobleizer in a tab on FriendFeed. http://bit.ly/dRo2L - Nir Ben Yona
There's a script for everything... - Calley Nye
A big +1 for Mona's link to the bookmarklet, that's a really sticky way of getting involved with FF - share stuff, then share again, then share some more! - Iain Baker
The reason I'm actually using FriendFeed right now (besides because Twitter is down) is that I was researching for a post. A really cool tool called Moopz - just posted http://www.techcrunch.com/2008... - Calley Nye
Whoa please don't tell me this conversation ended because Twitter went back up. LOL - Calley Nye
...I think it was because you said you're only using FF since Twitter is down ;) -but on a serious note, after a certain number of comments the post no longer gets 'bumped' so I don't think people are aware there are new comments added on the thread - Mona Nomura
