Good for the UAE - RAPatton
and the UAE knew this... how? - MikeAmundsen
Mossad or the CIA I would guess. - Matt G
Props to UAE, but is it only a matter of time before Iran or N. Korea threaten UAE with nuclear annihilation? - JA Castillo
type of weapon? - Stuart Evans
My bets on the Mossad. The CIA is being neutered. Whoever did it, at least someone still has some courage and willingness to act. - Robert Kenney
JA, Iran won't threaten anyone with nuclear annihilation except Israel - RAPatton
"and the UAE knew this... how?" - I assume this is the same ship that has been shadowed since leaving North Korea. I believe it was forced to dock in Macau for a search. The real import of this story is that an Arab country (instead of the US, or Russia) seized the ship - good diplomatic work by someone, somewhere. - John Craft
ahh at least not nuclear - for now - Stuart Evans

Deflation and inflation both scaring some economists - Jun. 23, 2009
Deflation and inflation both scaring some economists - Jun. 23, 2009
LOL, this kind of thing is very confusing. Which side do you believe? - Alex Scoble from Bookmarklet
I wish I was an "expert" in the field, but I really don't know. I guess I'll side with the economists who say that inaction could have meant a Depression. I don't know how inflationary recent fed/treasury actions will be. - Mike Reynolds
*Flips a Coin* - Nicholas Kreidberg
Well, it means the economy is breathing. That's good, right? - Shawn Farner
I've been hearing for so long that inflation is a bad thing, so I assumed that deflation would be a good thing, but apparently, it not to be. Damned if you do and damned if you don't. Kind of lends a whole we-don't-know-what-we're-talking-about-vibe to economics. - Andy Bakun
It's quite long (47mins) but I found it interesting - http://bit.ly/I1DZH - Stuart Evans
Yeah, inflation isn't bad...inflation is normal...inflation that outpaces GDP and growth in wages is bad though, but that's not normal - Alex Scoble from IM
We are a long way from inflation. Our concerns should still be on deflation. - John Flynn
Let's just call it "flation". - Mike Reynolds
The media is ignoring the most appropriate buzz word - Stagflation - Aviv
I think this is just definitional confusion. People - media, economists, the hoi polloi - don't seem to get that demand destruction does not necessarily mean deflation. You can easily have an inflationary depression. [for more extensive convo on this, see: http://friendfeed.com/acitran...] - Anthony Citrano
It hasn't just been demand destruction, it's also been asset destruction. Certainly in the housing market and stock market, which are the major sources of assets for most of the public. - Cristo
"If they do bow to that view, then I think the risk will rise that we'll have outright deflation," said Zandi." -- I think the last word was suppose to be inflation here. - Cristo
Cristo: they are inextricably linked - the "asset destruction" to which you refer was driven by demand destruction. the decreasing value of the dollar, on the other hand, can somewhat be de-linked from demand destruction (in my unhumble view) - Anthony Citrano from BuddyFeed
How is the value of the dollar decreasing though? It has been doing rather well against world currencies of late and for people like Anthony who kept their money on the sidelines instead of buying in to the real estate market, they suddenly find their dollars to be a lot more powerful. - Alex Scoble
Farshad
What is the best IDE in your opinion ?
IDE=? - LANjackal
Integrated development environment - Farshad
Floppy? - Josh Haley
Eclipse with the Aptana plugin. - Kevin Mohr
Depends upon the target. VisualStudio is awesome for any .NET development. For script editing in a multitude of languages such as powershell and vbscript I would go with PrimalScript. For front-end web development you can't beat Aptana (Eclipse based). - Troy Forster
I want something suitable for rails, php , html and css - Farshad
I used to use Aptana full-time for RoR development. It's the best I've found. - Kevin Mohr
I have used Eclipse for Java, Php, Javascript and Python and I think is one of the best - Enrique Mogollan
Visual Studio 2008. Nothing like it. - Nitin Nanivadekar
I use Wing for python. located at Wingware. Excellent IDE. - TS_Rick from BuddyFeed
Text editor. Partial to TextMate at the moment. - mikepk
Just can't beat VS - Stuart Evans
I think aptana have all things all I need now, I have tested komodo too but aptana has all things inside, only problem is its java based and somehow heavy on system load - Farshad
Eclipse and sometimes Aptana - Parham
Meh, I can't believe I'm using Eclipse and "best" in the same sentence but maybe the best among herd of poor... My vote goes to Eclipse. - Berk D. Demir
Certainly Intellij Idea - Erdinc YILMAZEL
I think Troy Forster nailed it. - xero
Eclipse with Aptana plugin. Actually for scripting issues, no IDE is applicable. Any text processor with highlighting support beats. - Burcu Dogan

The purpose of @secretscoble @k4shif is so I can study how having a private Twitter account changes the experience of using Twitter.
Intimate conversations are way better..! :) - Melissa Gonzales
What are the thoughts so far? Would be interesting to understand. I always feel that Twitter is really cool as a comms tool aslong as you use it that way. Its down to the individual. - Paul Rawlings
Very interesting. Cant wait to hear about your findings! - Sean Simkins
Sean: so far the signal to noise ratio is much like my lists on FriendFeed. I like FriendFeed better, but there are quite a few people who aren't yet on FriendFeed. The thing is, though, most people aren't on Twitter, either. They don't watch their accounts very closely and/or they don't act on them if they do. - Robert Scoble
I don't understand why you invited people like Ijustine though? Go look at her friendfeed account, a typical day would be a dozen or so bikini pictures, a video about Apple and a bunch of tweets on some new shoes she is buying? - Mark
@Mark, yeah exactly, that's why I stopped following her myself - Stuart Evans
Another interesting experiment would be to allow anyone in who wanted to but to screen people before hand to make sure they weren't spammer, etc. You could create an account of tech-savy people that you could draw news from and do experiments with. Like a twitter that actually knew what they were talking about. - Sweyn Venderbush
Mark: because I've met iJustine. She's part of my experiment. - Robert Scoble
I trust you will be documenting this experiment? Or is it all just going to be in your head? What's your hypothesis? :-) - Mark
How will you control for extraneous variables ;) - Mark
How did you ensure your sample was representative and could be generalised to the general population of twitter? Haha, the science-nerd part of me is coming out now. - Mark

Sky News: A total of 264 British members of parliament have paid back almost 650,000 pounds (1.06 million USD) following expenses scandal.
i'd like to see that happen in the US! - MikeAmundsen
I'd like to see them prosecuted for fraud. They committed a criminal act, you don't get off that crime by giving back the items you took. - alphaxion
@alphaxion, exactly, so many people say the same thing in the UK but we don't see heads rolling. - Stuart Evans
why, Stuart? - A.T.
Thats a little over a third of the house :) - Roberto Bonini
@A.T From what i'm aware of most of the claims were within the rules of expenses(as crazy as they were) but the police are investigating people who deliberatly misled the expenses office, such as the claims for phony loans/mortgages and council tax overpayments. - Stuart Evans

AFP: Preparations are at an "advanced stage" for dealing with a mass outbreak of H1N1 flu in UK -- Health Secretary
Tea is being brewed by tanker full, pillows are being fluffed, warm blankets being knitted by grandmothers in every corner of the empire. England will see the induced 3-4 day of moderate discomfort with it's trademark stalwart stoicism. - Matthew DeVries
Brits are being asked to freeze and save all chicken bones. Volunteers will be sent from door to door to collect them. It is the crown's hope that chicken stock reserves will be at target levels by week's end. - Matthew DeVries
I've stocked up the halls soothers...Matthew I'm vegetarian, what am I going to do?! - Charlotte M
Charley - this is a time of slight inconvenience, we're all being asked to make sacrifices! - Matthew DeVries
so why is this spreading faster than normal flu ? or is it not and just media attention? - Stuart Evans
It is less dangerous and spreads less easily than the normal flu. The symptoms of it are less sever than the normal flu. In the US, 70,000 people are going to die this year of the normal flu, while this has killed maybe 20. - Matthew DeVries
Got to love the media to hype something up :D - Stuart Evans

For those of you who use Twitter, do you like seeing people you subscribe to tweet a link to each post on their blog? Or does that annoy you? (e.g., if you wanted to be notified of their blog entries, you'd subscribe to their blog's RSS feed)
Personally, I've assumed the latter and thus have avoided tweeting a link to every new post of mine on my blog. But I'm noticing that the former seems to be the norm... and if people really appreciate such notifications (maybe they don't use a feed reader?) then I'm happy to accommodate. - Adam Lasnik
For me, it's really easy for me to unfollow people who fill their twitter stream with redundant information. FriendFeed aggregates RSS feeds, if I really wanted that. - John μller
It depends on the percentage if their tweets that a self-links. If it's almost all they do, it's annoying. - Brett Kelly
I don't really mind that. What is annoying, though, is if people post their location (via Brightkite etc.) every couple of minutes. - Horst Gutmann
fact is that tweeting brings more readers... since I have 10 times more followers than subscribers - Ihar Mahaniok
Twitter is also much more spam-bot friendly than your RSS feed == Twitter is better ;-) - Horst Gutmann
It is helpful if I am a reader of their blog, and know that they will respond to @replies on the topic. - Mike Chelen
if they post all the blog entries on twitter, I drop their RSS feed and follow only the tweets. - righini riprova
Adam - If it's not overdone, think it's fine. Just more ongoing 'in-the-moment' discovery. Have even been known to do it myself .. occasionally :) - Charlie Anzman
I think it is cool in moderation. You have to mix it up. I respect when people post things from their blog and other sources in the same space. I am much more inclined to click their links if that is the case. - nickgs
I auto-tweet from my personal blog. Then again I don't blog every five minutes. - Ian May
It does not annoy me if the tweets are on the edges of the blog and not necessarily in the main body. - Lester Greenberg
Isn't that the whole point of social media site - to share interesting content? - Dilip Dand
I don't mind if it's in reference to something else, or even something really interesting, but yes, that's what Google Reader is for! - Californian
I really don't mind all that much. As long as it isn't spammed too often I can live with it. - John Ford from Nambu
Don't mind, not as annoying as the same re-tweets by 10 people your following - Stuart Evans
It's annoying if they send too many posts and if they don't give a good comment about the link. - Anurag Nigam
The latter for me - Brandon Mendelson
Depends on the context for me. If the subject of the post complements the views of the tweeter, that's fine by me, but too many irrelevant or offtopic and I'll unfollow without a second thought. - Stuart Gray
It doesn't really bother me. In fact, there have been times when I missed a post on RSS but then caught it on twitter. Typically if I see a blog tweet I'll read it I have time, but if not I know I can catch it later on RSS. - Alex Hellstrom
Wow, the diversity of opinions here surprises and intrigues me. Thanks, everyone, for the thoughtful input. I'm still undecided on what to do, but leaning towards tweeting more of my posts now (particularly given that I don't blog that often AND I do tend to tweet at least daily). - Adam Lasnik
I don't mind it at all. I have some friends who have set their blogs to auto-tweet whenever they have a new entry but also use twitter for comments and @replies. It is just one of many different pieces of content and, since it is under 140 characters, easy to ignore in its redundancy with my GReader. I say go for it! - Miss Elle
Agreed with Anurag too, the tweet should contain substantive context to help determine if the post will be interesting to me. - Mike Chelen

At the end of Independence Day, the humans are all 'Yeah, Go Us! We Rule!'... but wouldn't the aliens just send another massive ship (with Norton Antivirus installed) and blow our shit up?
Independence-Day.jpg
They did, but Norton Antivirus slowed the ship down so much that it took, like fifty thousand years to get here. - Mitch Wagner
Touche :P - Johnny Worthington
Actually, their trial subscription ran out. - CAJ, somewhere else
I dunno, but I love Will Smith kicking the alien because he smells. - Trish Haley
They used a trojan... norton didn't detect it :D they had information overload, their mailboxes got full of spam - Stuart Evans
Trish - Me too! - Penny
Norton Antivirus? You can't be serious. They'd get their asses kicked AGAIN! - Jim Iz Not on Ur List
Norton would suck every yottobyte of mem in their systems and send them straight down - Mo Kargas
AVAST! The anti-virus software for space pirates - Ladybug Heather
By that time, Johnny, we'll have Linux installed in our systems, and so we'll be able to send "sudo self-destruct" to all their ships. :D - Steven Perez
not to be a party-pooper, but that mothership and all the city-sized drop ships WERE their whole civilization...they had no homeworld, IOW. *slinks from room* - Joe Silence
Just the same, I'm gonna install that new Linux distro that will crash alien ships from my G1. :D - Steven Perez from IM
Repeat to yourself, "It's just a show, I should really just relax." - tehKenny, Dork
Maybe that was the entire race of aliens all in the one ship. Which would then mean that Goldblum and his Apple committed genocide. - Joe Pierce

Stupid dumbarse humans...even stupider dumbarse aliens. Robots wouldn't have made those mistakes - Mo Kargas

QUESTION: How much is the price of gas where you are now?
June 10 from IM - Comment - Share
I think the 87 is $2.49 - Shevonne
It's been going up here in ABQ: $2.48 - 2.65 for unleaded regular. - Steven Perez from IM
For unleaded 95 octane in Norway it´s NOK 12.83 *per litre* which is about USD 7.608 per gallon. Shocking ? :) Diesel (which my family uses) is a bit cheaper. Strangely expensive perhaps, but it´s all environmental taxes because we drill it up just outside our shores and refine it ourselves. (Besides it´s obviously impossible to compare the prices just by themselves across borders). - Thomas Bøhm
Yes. Pardon me while I look for a paper bag to breathe into. :D - Steven Perez from IM
$2.59 per gallon for 87 in Reno/Sparks, NV - Hel Hel
I just paid $2.42 I think... - FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
Portsmouth, England - I just paid 98.9 pence per litre. That works out to somewhere in the region of £4/gallon I think. - Mark H
$2.62/87/Louisville KY - Tsali, The Native of FF
I've been watching the price slowly creep up for a while. Just wanted to know if anyone else noticed this. - Steven Perez from IM
It's been on the news for a couple of weeks. Gas is rising, but it usually does in the summer - Shevonne
Thought so. Thanks, Shevonne. - Steven Perez from IM
$2.45 this morning. Going up to $2.51/gal - ‘-.-’ Tutivillus Grift
About $2.50 for 87. - Aaron Hood
$7.34 a gallon (UK) - Stuart Evans
Regular is around $2.90/gal in San Jose, CA - Jeff P. Henderson
$2.89 in San Jose - Glen, Bespectacled Elder
$2.59 Southern, IL - David Cook
2.42 Colorado Springs, CO - Eric @ CSTechcast.com
Stuart: guess that's why everybody's screaming about the Tube strike today, huh? :) - Steven Perez from IM
2.39 for regular - martha
Yes, crude oil has been making a steady climb and is now above $70/barrel last I checked. - Eric @ CSTechcast.com
I dunno. I don't drive. - Michael McKean
$2.71 to $2.79 - James Ferguson
$1.07 CDN / liter. I guess that works out to about $3.60 USD or so per US gallon. - Andrew C

Any reason to go with Quicken over Mint?
Because you like paying for software? - Sparky
Also, Quicken can print checks!!!!! - Sparky
Putting aggregated finances online at all (or even sharing financial information with a 3rd-party when not absolutely necessary) is not something I would ever do. - LogEx
Mint only shows you what has actually passed through your accounts; it's great for tracking your spending. However, it's awful for money management because it doesn't know anything about checks, etc., that haven't cleared yet or are scheduled in advance. I use both; Quicken for money management, and mint for budgeting/tracking across multiple accounts. - Glen, Bespectacled Elder
Do you use Quicken, LE? - Tad from fftogo
Thanks Glen! That's good information. - Tad from fftogo
I tried Quicken many years ago, but no. - LogEx
Do you mean just for basic budgeting using Quicken online (a more direct comparison to Mint.com) or for detailed and useful information such as Quicken Home? I use Quicken online to track my banking (went bills are due, what has cleared) but I use Quicken Home & Business for the larger scope of my finances (taxes, business, mortgage). Mint.com doesn't hold a candle to either, from my experience. - Admiral Anika
I would definitely choose Quicken over just about anything else. I'm planning on installing it in my Windows 7 VM so I can handle our family's everything. - Akiva Moskovitz
I did like MS Money until MS have just decided to axe it :/ - Stuart Evans
Oh they axed it? Wow, I didn't know that. I liked Money a long time ago because the UI was more modern than Quicken's but Quicken has come along way while I've since gotten over liking what is essentially a browser for a UI. - Akiva Moskovitz
Are there any integration points between Quicken and Mint? Didn't realize they were complimentary... - Tad from fftogo
I use Mint because I don't use checks at all. Everything I do is either debit card or cash. However, the one thing about Mint is that debit transactions (and withdrawals) take time to clear (less than checks, but they are not instantaneous) - Justin Long
I've used Quicken since 1994, but the banks seem to make it hard to import your data these days. - Eric @ CSTechcast.com

Israeli military developing battlefield robot snake | Israel | Jerusalem Post
"A robot snake, capable of recording video and sound on the battlefield, is on the way to join the the IDF's hi-tech arsenal. According to a Channel 2 report - click here to watch the clip - the spying robot, which is about two meters long and covered in military camouflage, mimics the movements and appearance of real snakes, slithering around through caves, tunnels, cracks and buildings, while at the same time sending images and sound back to a soldier who controls the device through a laptop computer. Able to bend its joints so well that it can squeeze through very tight spaces, the new device will be used to find people buried under collapsed buildings. The snake is also able to arch its body, allowing it to see over obstacles through its head camera. Researchers studied the movements of live snakes in order to create the most natural and realistic robotic version." - RAPatton from Bookmarklet
Interesting fact: All snakes encountered whilst in the army were killed or captured on site by at least one soldier in the group. If this is seen, it will be useless, methinks. - Michael W. May

I don't have one either. Not enamored with AT&T. Trying to figure out which toy of verizon's to purchase. - Peggy Dolane
Pretty much. - Geoff Schultz
I do not own an iPhone. - Russellreno
i dont have an iphone - Allen Stern
Wanna buy a 16GB black 3G model in pristine condition? [dead serious] - Josh Haley
I hear AT&T is a huge downside to having an iPhone - what's up with AT&T? (I haven't used AT&T...) - Jannifer @wordsforliving
I canceled my AT&T plan & gave my old iPhone to my g/f. AT&T service is not worth $90/month =). - Richly N. Chheuy
no, i have a g1 - Christian (Simply X)
I love the iPhone, but hate AT&T. Sticking with the Pre - Rodfather
Why do people hate AT&T? - Jannifer @wordsforliving
Because AT&T are rat fucking bastards. :) - Christopher A Carr
For one thing, they have horrible customer service. - Christopher A Carr
Sounds like they are price gouging - they must be making a killing on the monthly fees! - Jannifer @wordsforliving
I don't have an iPhone either. - Morton Fox
I mainly don't like the coverage. They all suck when it comes to services and contracts. - Rodfather
Blackberry Addict! More economical to have in Jamaica:) iPhone would be too expensive to have for me here, meh. - Gordon Swaby
Um, lots of reasons to hate AT&T... right now I'm hating them because after buying the original iPhone, then the iPhone 3G, I now have to pay $399 to upgrade to the same low-end 16GB model that new customers pay $199 for... that does NOT sound like rewarding your customers for their loyalty... it sounds more like punishing them :-( - Fred Davis
Fred: It's still better than *any other carrier* because they don't let you upgrade until your contract is up or close to with the exception of Verizon. The reason why it is $200 more is because you weren't paying the subsidized on the original iPhone. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn... - Zach Flauaus
nope... got the Pre! - Lisa Immekus
i don't have an iphone, either :) - yagami
I don't have any cellphone. - Joe Pierce
Nope. Waiting for 5G - Charlie Anzman
No iAnything in my house...yet. - Jack (a.k.a. Jeber)
Too expensive on the contract side. Weak that they want you to pay more than other phones for the contracts. No good explanation other than "they're subsidizing the iPhone" pfft. Shopping for a nokia or maybe looking at a G1. I just don't like T-Mobile much either. - guruvan (Rob Nelson)
Two major strikes for me: 1) Not open. 2) On AT&T. Do not want. - Adam Lasnik
No iphone here - Tai
im still addicted to black berry messenger and actually being able to type well, also not having my calls dropped - Zachary Adam Cohen
Don't have one: wife insists we stick w/Verizon (Good service; boring phones) - Tony C
Have iPhone, but no iLockInPlan. - Micah Wittman
how do you have service Micah? - guruvan (Rob Nelson)
Rob, I continued with the plan I had (here in Canada) which I started with a plain ol' SIM-based cell phone. I don't have iphone-specific functionality (like visual voicemail) or internet access via cell network, so I just use wifi for email/browsing. It's a 1st gen iphone. - Micah Wittman
Rob, one tip: to disable iphone trying to access the net through the cell network (which if you don't have a data plan can just get charged at an on-demand rate - not pretty) you need to change the access point name in the settings. SEE http://brent.kearneys.ca/2008... - Micah Wittman
No iPhone here, thanks. No Apple Crap at all , in fact - sjjh
Nope! No iPhone! I think iMacs are great stuff but if I buy a mobile, it should be mine to do whatever I like with it. And anyway my old Nokia N95 can do anything the iPhone does and more. iPhone envy? Don't think so. - Adrian Scicluna
no iphone - τorƍue
No iphone. Verizon is way better than AT&T for me. I tried AT&T for 6 months (family plan with my brother) and it was way worse in my travel areas. Doesn't work in my parent's house in Ohio. Drops more calls (and delivers voice-mails late) about 10X as often as Verizon. On the other hand, if I lived in Fairfax, CA, I'd have to have AT&T, since Verizon is poor in north Marin. - Mitchell Tsai
NO - Yuvi
No, I don't have one and probably won't get one. Nokia make better phones. ;-) - Kol Tregaskes
No I-phone here. - Brent - Loving Life
My $29.95 Virgin Mobile cheapie does just fine. - Mark It's 2000-Oh-1-Oh J

Nope. - ♥patricia♥
i don't and i am confident that i never will. don't even have a smartphone - Nathan Rein
no iphone, no plans to get one. Happy with whatever Verzon offers - currently a BB curve that does everything I need it to. - Mike Nencetti
In 3 days after everyone buys a $99 one... Yup! :-) - Walt Ruppar
Don't have one, don't want one :) Not an Apple fan. - Renee Hendricks
I'd love to have an iPhone, but do not want to get anywhere near AT&T. Can you imagine the sales if Apple had not been stupid and tied themselves to crappy AT&T? Looks like Palm Pre is the way to go for me. - Chris Gardner
I have great luck with AT&T, and always have, but I can't get over the double rate for the data service for the iPhone, and I'm not happy with any of the carriers tethering restrictions. - guruvan (Rob Nelson)
Nope! I don't have one and don't want one. My WindowsMobile based HTC Touch Pro has a full keyboard, has less restrictions (totally open system), and has more features. Also, I use Sprint which has faster data speeds anyway, and since I'm on the grandfathered SERO program, I only pay $30/mo for unlimited EVERYTHING. most of my iphone buddies pay at least TRIPLE THAT every month. hahaha, suckers! - veo
right, because what one has means nothing as long as others have less. :p - Josh Haley
Don't have one. - Penguin It's Cold Outside
G1 Android here, although I do have the broke ass version of the iPhone, the iPod Touch. - Haggis (Sean Loyless)
Nope. I don't ever plan on getting one myself, either (well, never say never, but still) - Hel Hel
not only do i not have an iPhone, i have no phone at all. part of the cell phone-less minority - Imabug
NO! I love the thing, but I refuse to pay the outrageous contract fees. And I admire Imabug. - Amy℠
I don't have an iPhone, but I think that'll change with the iPhone 3G S. - Diego Espinoza V.
I don't have one. However, I got a G1. :) - imabonehead
nope - Kamilah Gill
No, Apple says that, collectively, 40 million "iPhone OS devices" have been sold. There's gotta be at least, like, 50 million people on the planet, so you have plenty of friends. - David Chartier
Nope...not yet anyway :P - Shey, Jamaican of FF
Nope. I won't get one either. Wouldn't mind something comparable in a Blackberry kind of way, though. :-D - Lisa L. Seifert
no, you're not. It only seems that way sometimes.... - WorldofHiglet

Beanzawave: The World's Smallest Microwave
Beanzawave: The World's Smallest Microwave
"The Beanzawave, which measures just 7.4 inches tall by 6.2 inches wide and 5.9 inches deep, doesn't even need to be plugged into an electrical outlet. The device contains a USB port, so mid-afternoon snacks can be heated up at the computer without expending excess power. In the future, Heinz might experiment with lithium ion batteries--making the Beanzawave ideal for camping trips. Heinz claims that snacks can be warmed in under a minute thanks to intense heating action from a combination of cell phone and radio frequencies." - Live4Emma (L4S) from Bookmarklet

no, but it might cause the worlds smallest pace maker to have the world's smallest malfunction which would lead to the worlds smallest law suit... :-p - Live4Emma (L4S)
Heinz: Putting the 'micro' in microwave. - Kevin Shaum
It's a really cool gizmo but don't most offices have a microwave/kettle/kitchen available... I'd figure most people would want to get away from their desk for some part of the day... - Stuart Evans

Can't help but think that 70p for a Twix bar is outrageously expensive. I didn't get one, but I looked in the vendomat when I got coffee...
wowwwww that is crazy, i've been going to home bargains lately, was there earlier, had a pack of 4 Twix for 99p :D - Stuart Evans
For what it's worth, they were selling tubes of Fruit Pastilles for 60p, and packets of crisps for 50p, or something like that, too. - Tyson Key
Of course, it was a vending machine at college, so the reasons why they charge so much are anyone's guess... - Tyson Key
+1 for Home Bargains. They have all sorts of weird stuff in there, but the prices were pretty reasonable, last time I looked in one that was somewhat local. - Tyson Key
Was a few years back in college when I last went, been to one recently, starting to appreciate how much supermarkets rip us off these days. Home Bargains ftw! Another example of awesome price, 1 litre bottle of lucozade.. 99p home bargains, £1.79 in tesco :O - Stuart Evans
Hmm, has anyone tried Lidl or ALDI, out of interest? I've never been to one, but some people seem to like the products, despite them being the ultimate in bargain-basement (although I have been to Netto, years ago)... - Tyson Key
yeah have been to both, not for a while though, lots of imported stuff, home bargains focuses on normal brands at discount price :D - Stuart Evans

it would go perfect in the bathroom. Put it right above the toilet and it would seem they are looking into the toilet with you as you go. - Lokei Atikus™®
I have no problem with that. There's nothing at all wrong with naked bodies. And pregnancy is beautiful. It's not my style but if it's theirs, so be it. We shouldn't criticize others' creative/artistic decisions/opinions/preferences. Unless, of course, you don't mind people doing the same to yours. - ·[▪_▪]·
Boob face, I agree with the naked bodies and the creative part, but come on, if I were to take a shit on a piece of canvas and put it on display am I not weird for doing so, even if I call it art or a family momento? Just saying:) - Lokei Atikus™®
@Lokei, liking the toilet position, can see that freaking some people out :D - Stuart Evans
@Stuart can't you just look at her and see her looking for it to go all the way in the toilet?? - Lokei Atikus™®

What's the best place to upload longer videos? YouTube has a 10 minute limit. Google Video no longer accepts new video submissions. Vimeo has a monthly bandwidth limit (but I"m thinking of paying for premium service). Any good quality services without these problems?
I've been using SciVee lately - one big reason is that they accept FLV files which are relatively small for high resolution http://www.scivee.tv/ - Jean-Claude Bradley
Blip.tv has a 1GB limit (http://blip.tv/faq#maxsize), and also accepts FLV files. - Vlado Handziski
Thanks Jean-Claude and Vlado. I've never looked at blip.tv before, I'll have to check it out... - Michael Nielsen
sevenload? - Björn Brembs
blip is good. I roll my own using Ooyala - Deepak Singh
I'll have to check out blip - especially for non-research related screencasts - Jean-Claude Bradley

Sounds like what you're really asking is: "Can I have everything for free please?" I recommend paying for Vimeo's services or finding a similar competitor that makes you happy. Hosting and serving all this video is not free, or even cheap. - David Chartier
That's exactly what I'm asking. I'm looking for the best price, and having looked at what other services offer, free, it wouldn't surprise me if someone else can do all that I want, for free. So I'm looking for it. Nothing wrong with price-shopping. - Michael Nielsen
Well my apologies then, guess I read it wrong. In that case: I thought YouTube let users pay up or apply for a "Director's" account that lifted many of its limits. Am I nuts? - David Chartier
David: Thanks. They've made Director's accounts gradually harder and harder to get, I'd guess because of problems with piracy. A couple of years back, all you had to do was apply (wish I had). Things gradually tightened up, and when I looked into it a couple of months back, I couldn't see any way I could get such an account. If you know how, I'd be delighted to hear! - Michael Nielsen
viddler has no length limit but 500mb size limit - Stuart Evans
Try using Blip.TV. There is no length limit but there is a size limit. I think it's 1gb - Alex Schlotzer
actually, the perks of the directors account are gone for new applications - you're limited to 10 mins now and size of upload. There's no point going for that title any more, - alphaxion

Networked LCD screens to turn bus stops into art galleries - The Next Web
"Londoners may soon have something new to look while they travel around the city. A plan has been announced that would allow people to upload their own works of art to a website and have them displayed on the rooftops of bus shelters around the city. The Bus.Tops project would see the tops of sixty four bus stop shelters around London removed and replaced by networked LCD screens, visible from both above and below. Anyone will be able to upload their artwork to the Bus.tops website and, providing it gets enough votes, have it displayed on the bus stop of their choice." - Martin Bryant from Bookmarklet

Re-Tweeting On Twitter Only Adds To Overload - http://techpulse360.com/2009...
i think this blogger is totally missing the point of retweeting.. ppl who are retweeting are not clogging the system.. they would be tweeting something whether it b a RT or not.. RT's are an amazing part of the community louis! its how i got your attention! - Jason Pollock
Louis, what do you think about what Jason said? I agree that when I see a good tweet I want to re-treat it for others and myself also(to keep it). I've also met ppl by RTing and others have called my attention by RTing my tweets. Maybe ppl should just think for a few seconds before clicking the send key. I RT good stuff and if there were no RT's I'd have to research more. We're not all writers like you Louis :)) - Myrna
I love it when Jason does it. :) My previous comments about retweets have said that it'd be great to rework them in your own words and give credit. - Louis Gray
It's also worth saying that just because I share all these items doesn't mean I agree with 100% with every single article and writer. - Louis Gray
Well I agree with both Jason and Myrna. It's not overload, it's sharing. And if someone is doing it excessively (according to whatever standard each of us has of this), just unfollow. Problem solved. - Vlad Bobleanta
RTing is one of the things I dislike about twitter, if you follow a group of people of similar interests, one person posts something good and you get another 5 posts of RTs - Stuart Evans
Yes, make your own comments so people will know your stand. Of course, many ppl do give their feedback but its not FF where you can say more. Louis, yes, I understand. I won't hold you to every word that you share. - Myrna
RTing shares tweets that you found interesting but that your followers may not have read, it doesn't add to the number of useless tweets or "noise" as the bloggers seems to think. You can even filter out any tweet with "RT" if you're using TweetDeck (other clients probably have this feature too) if you really don't want to see them. - Antoniu
the 'like' function on friendfeed and facebook is cleaner repeater. maybe a twtterverse tool will too present the 'I agree, but have nothing to add' in a similar fashion eventually. - Lane Rapp
I see RT as part of sharing what is interesting. it's just like FW with email. Only potential downside I see with RT is not much room for commenting on why you shared it - Rob Williams
Lane, the 'like' function doesn't really fit when someone dies or some other catastrophe. It feels ridiculous to click like at these times although you want to say that you appreciate the information. - Myrna
thanks for all your comments on this thread! its a good one! friendfeed rocks! also, thanks for all the gr8 content louis! - Jason Pollock
