@Kol, the invitation process seems to be based on nominations. For example, everytime someone nominates/invites you, you get bumped up the queue for an account until you're at the top and you get sent an invite by the team

How does anyone know if someone has already been invited? You could go back and edit your comment when you receive an invitation, but since that takes days, it could be ages before you know.

I think something deeper might be happening. Geeks seem to be disappearing off of social networks in droves. I am seeing this trend across all social media but biggest on FriendFeed which definitely was affected by sale to Facebook and it is clear that Facebook doesn't see FriendFeed as important.

Jesse: I have heard the same thing (that the FriendFeed team is now working full time on Facebook projects) but will interview Paul in next week to find out what he sees happening over next year.

Robert, wait for the interview. My perception is that if they are working on other projects, that's a good thing. They should be working on other projects and learning the Facebook environment. Then, my hope is that they'll be able to take that and integrate it into the FriendFeed environment in a way that respects the FriendFeed culture and brings the good parts of Facebook in as well....

Despite the drop in numbers, I'm not seeing a drop in the level (and energy) of engagement here. Additionally, I'm still picking up new subscribers, and finding new and interesting people to subscribe to... For me, Friendfeed is still the most fun place to hang out on, and that's down to the people and conversations I get to engage with - and long may it remain so! :-)

@Sunny and @Prolific - there's an OpenFF group (http://friendfeed.com/openff) looking at writing an open source equivalent, which might be a good place to get involved, rather than reinventing the wheel. It's gone a bit quiet because the key people have been busy with their day jobs, so I'm sure that any contributions will be gladly accepted!

FF needs to be acquired by a non-profit like Wikipedia, and set up as a hub for all things real-time on the web. Which would you rather turn to for real-time information and conversation... Twitter or a properly configured and managed FF topic room/group? "Properly configured and managed" is the key phrase... some group of folks needs to get a reasonable paycheck to find and organize all relevant voices and feeds on the web.

Endless use of 3D environment for example virtual reality (may be virtual wikipedia etc) .

The closest we can get to 3d web is the intereaction with 2d web using touch signals (touch screen etc.) and virtual world gaming (which is still 2d that looks like a 3d environment because it is still inside a computer screen).

my server side states show no timeline updates for 3 hours but some search updates. also if you go directly to some peoples pages it's hit-or-miss if their timeline shows updates. Nothing mentioned on the IRC dev channel and one status.twitter.com update an hour ago about it. But the feed from twitter to friendfeed is working partially.

Na fail whale for me, but retrieving tweets from any client seems impossible, posting from clients drags slower than snail mail, and twitter site takes ages to load, but it does load. It's been on like this since yesterday. I dont know what the problem is, but likely another hack attack. Time has come Twitter learned how to deal with bot attacks already! Grrr.
