Cool Mods - Apple Disk ][ Drive Mac Mini
The modder managed to get a whole Mac Mini inside this Apple Disk ][ Drive, using the 5-1/4 inch drive for slot loading DVD's. - Simon Wicks from Bookmarklet
That's fun :-), That's when I started playing with computers. Not with apple, but 5 and a quarter inch. - Richard A.
This looks like it could either be an Apple DVD Player from 1999, or a Prototype Mac mini from WAAAAYYY back in time. - Liyan Brown

I wondered if it were possible. - MVB (Curmudgeon of FF)

Slick! Hope this is really doable. - Bill Sodeman
This is neat! Only... It would be nice if Apple actually developed one that is universal for ALL iPhones and iPod Touches that can plug into the slot at the bottom. - Liyan Brown

How’s Your Battery Life With iPhone OS 2.2.1? - http://www.theiphoneblog.com/2009...
How’s Your Battery Life With iPhone OS 2.2.1?
I have yet to update to 2.2.1. Anyone here notice any difference in battery from 2.2 to 2.2.1? - David Bisset (sn) from Bookmarklet
It's hit or miss at the moment. It can be stellar, and it can be awful. It's basically a crap shoot. - Mike Nayyar
So basically the same as 2.2? I think it's a mental thing - upgrade and you get paranoid about your battery... - David Bisset (sn)
Same. As good as it was in 2.2. - Paul Grav
I have not upgraded to 2.2.1 just yet, but when I upgraded to 2.2, I noticed a difference. I did some testing and found that the drain was related to Exchange Push. Here's my write up: http://www.thebernharts.com/archive... - Neil Bernhart
Push email is a battery killer - it's also over rated. Management training used to teach you to take control of interuptions. Push email is just a series of interuptions - I used a blackberry for 2 years, I'm more productive without it. - Shauns
I've found the biggest drains are WiFi being on when you aren't using it and some apps left running when you hit the power button. The iphone is the single worst phone I've had when it comes to battery life. But then, that might be because I use it quite a bit. - alphaxion
At least, I didn'T get any difference going from 2.2 to 2.2.1 - Matthias Faller from twhirl
No difference for me. My battery is usually done by around 7-8pm, later if I turn off wifi. - Jonathon
I get 3 days battery life on my little non-PDA cell phone and I'm SOOO happy I don't have AT&T. - TranceMist
My battery life is worse, about 30% less efficient (estimating) - Wes Hoogenboom
I charge once a day. - orionstarr
Horrible. I can´t get throught the day with a night charge. - Pedro Rodrigues
I noticed on mine if I charge it for 30 minutes or so that charge holds for awhile - orionstarr
up to 2 days, charged when sync, about 20 min - Лучше не знать
My mum hasn't updated her iPhone 3G since she got it! That was like June 2008. She is annoyed that some of the Apps she wants won't work though... I'll update it for her soon enough. - Liyan Brown
I have not noticed the difference I tend to be no more than 20 feet from a charger! - Carl Plant
mine battery's fine. it gets me through a full day with a few dozen % left - Alex
No difference - LoreArtifex
I haven't noticed any difference. - Spencer

"So right or wrong, Apple's fault for not making the hardware, Microsoft's fault for not making good enough software, it really doesn't matter. The economics are there, the market is there and it really it isn't that difficult, and frankly, it is kinda cool. Unless something drastically changes, Hackintoshes are only going to become more popular." - David Bisset (sn) from Bookmarklet
The next thing to "look forward" to is viruses. - Richard A.
As long as the market share stays under 25% I don't think viruses will become a huge problem. - Aaron Hood
Tempting but I don't want to deal with trying to make Apple software updates work. - Rodfather
@Rodfather, relax, sometimes even ppl with legitimate apple systems have problems after applying official apple updates - Mihai Tarmure
and only updates that change your mac os X version are potential problem makers. those dont roll that often. individual app updates dont mess up anything (like itunes update, quicktime update, etc) - Mihai Tarmure
I wish I had a Hackintosh!!! - Liyan Brown
Liyan - This was the article that I was going to point you to... - Aaron Hood
insanelymac.com that is the forum where everything starts and ends regarding osx86 - Mihai Tarmure
to be honest, viruses aren't really a problem on windows either. They have become quite rare in my experience looking after a company full of machines. What has become massive and widespread are trojans and malware, of which osx has plenty. This is mainly because the whole scene has become profit orientated and so the oldschool VX'ers are dying out. - alphaxion

Well, I'm off to my local Apple store to try and procure a MacBook Pro with a student discount. Anyone have any software picks I should load up immediately?
vmware fusion and/or lightroom - Cee Bee
Adium, Firefox, Perian, VLC, Picassa. Those are my go-tos anyway. - Mark Foundos
Evernote. MarcoPolo. CyberDuck. Mailplane, if you use Gmail. And Perian, of course. - Bill Sodeman

Quicksilver is a dead app. Use Launchbar it's very good. First thing I install. - John Samuelson from BuddyFeed
@John What do you mean Quicksilver is a "dead app"? - Clay Newton
Quicksilver isn't dead if the latest update was 2/16... http://code.google.com/p... - Dr. Apps from twhirl
I'd also look at Xee - great image viewer, works well on zipped collections too. - Bill Sodeman
More suggestions: PopChar, MagiCal. - Bill Sodeman
Thanks guys! Wouldn't you know it, I get the thing brand new, and there's a dead pixel in the middle of the screen. I'll go back tomorrow to get a new one, but I'll check out all of this this stuff. - Mike Nayyar
VMWare Fusion + BackTrack4; Quicksilver; Mailplane; Firefox; Twhirl; AdiumX; TextMate; Transmit - Carlos Granier-Phelps

Screenflow, for whenever you feel like doing a good screencast of your screen! - Liyan Brown
@Clay @DrApps I'll be very surprised if Etienne & co can keep up without more help, although I wasn't aware of how much effort has gone in recently into new builds and updates. The latest build looks like it's usuable for some and a crasher for others. It's in no way meant for a new Mac user! - John Samuelson

Apple’s upcoming Mac Mini: if this is what it’s going to be, it isn’t look good
Highly unlikely this is it. Has Apple ever put that many USB ports on anything? What would be the point? - Kevin Pedraja
Why would they include mini-DVI and mini-DisplayPort? I still don't buy it. I think it's a home made job... - Aaron Hood
I doubt this is a real thing. Probably some bum decided to fake one and sell people out. - Liyan Brown
I don't buy it either. The video originates from a poster in macrumor's forums. He didn't really want to say where he obtained the unit from. I think it's more likely that this thing is a fake or a prototype than the next Mac Mini. 1. 5 USB slots, why 5 and not 4. Bizarre. 2. Mini-DVI and Mini-DisplayPort. I seriously doubt Apple would complicate things by having more than 1 display adapter slot. 3. The Apple logo on the top isn't black a la Time Machine. - Paul Grav
