What is a space elevator? A Space Elevator, or more specifically the LiftPort Space Elevator, will consist of a ribbon made of a very strong and very light material, carbon nanotubes, anchored to the Earth's surface at the LiftPort Station with the other end reaching into space. By making the ribbon long enough, and attaching a small satellite as counterweight, the Earth's rotation will provide enough centrifugal effect to overcome the pull of gravity and keep the ribbon taut. The LiftPort Space Elevator will then provide a permanent bridge between earth and space. Elevator cars will be robotic "lifters" which will climb the ribbon to deliver cargo and eventually people to orbit or beyond. - Surferbill

"Popular, brand-name users"? What are those? I thought this was FRIENDFeed, not FanClubFeed. - Avdi Grimm
I suppose this is inevitable and an almost must-do for folks with too many follows. Even though I only subscribe to about 90+ folks here, I can feel the noise creeping in at times too, and have wondered if I should use the lists more proactively. But like cleaning up an inbox, it would take time to do it.. Well, at least I have one list right now - a list of all my colleagues. And, I think you have a good process there in sorting your follows. - Winston Teo

My problem is that everyone posts on many topics, so I can't sort by the genre of the users posts. All of my subscriptions are people I know ONLY on friendfeed, so I can't sort them by source of contact. They're all on at random times of the day or night, so I can't sort them by apparent location. All I have is my home feed, a list for the ones my stats say I find interesting, and a list for the ones my stats say are interested in me. Any tips? - Slippy Lane

Louis, excellent post as I happily find each time I read your blog! :) This list concept is really a great feature of FF and I am glad you're liking it. I need to fine tune mine some more... but it really does help deliver the best content to me and I am incredibly grateful for the filtering this provides...very neat! Thanks! - Susan Beebe
"At work and at home, I file all my e-mail. For example, I have top level folders for "Personal", "Family", "Commerce", and "Blog", and thinking of people on FriendFeed the same way isn't that much of a stretch." I never thought about it quite that way before. Nice post. Thanks - Roberto Bonini
Organizing my lists now - Caleb Elston
I am thrilled that FF offered the list functionality, but as a result, I've found myself looking at my "favorites" list 95% of the time and the other lists 5% of the time, so it's almost the equivalent to unsubscribing from most of my list. Then again, maybe that's not a bad thing. It avoids hurt feelings, it gives me an out, and I feel less drowned. - Adam Lasnik
Must read piece for first time FFers - Charlie Anzman
I'm sure it's a necessity for ppl with a huge # of subs; I'd rather not think about it cuz I know I'm "back page" material. Ah well. ;\ - Kimberly J

I personally think Mattb4rd got it right - it comes naturally to some people. Just ignore em - jerks are jerks. - Royce Mathew
Speaking as a recovering asshole, I'll say that people do it for many different reasons. Sometimes its because a given personality with whom you interact has become a communicative pebble in the online shoe of your life, and you just want to blast 'em. Sometimes it's because you've discovered that you're actually very good at being an asshole, and receive lots of praise for it. And sometimes it's because you're the kind of person that just loves to inflict pain. - Roger Benningfield

Veronica, just ignore the jerks. Problem with the Internet is that jerks can hide behind their web browsers whereas in peron they can't. Use the power of the "ignore", "block" or whatever means to ignore them. - imabonehead
