It never fails to bum me out considerably to see young ladies being competitive towards one another in the social sphere. Not that we need to be joining hands singing kumbayah under the auspices of an unearned allegiance based solely on common gender, but...
... in a scene dominated by boys and men like punk rock, it's sad when the few girls and women in that scene should feel the need to jockey for position at one another's expense. Maybe it's another blessing of age to not be so invested in the fickle opinions of 20-something hipsters, but I was never like that honestly. I've always been a tomboy and like "one of the guys," yet have also enjoyed deep soul-nurturing relationships with other women throughout my life.

It just hurts me in a way, I guess, to see these younger women miss out on that b/c they feel the need to... I don't know what... for whatever reason. Sigh.

It also demonstrates to me that the younger generations have a lot to learn about community, what that really means and why it truly matters. </ageing riot grrl musings>
