I dont know, but it comes up so often in convos I have with librarians that it must be stopped!

L.O.L. "Step away from the Comic Sans. Crack would almost be a better habit to have."
- B. Hatin
Curious - what fonts do you like? Always been partial to Arial and Helvetica but is that so old school?
- Mlibrarianus
I know it's probably boring, but I use Garamond a lot.

lol @Shiftless - and I say that knowing full well how crack destroys lives. That's how strongly I feel *grin*.Times New Roman does me fine, Franklin Gothic Book is okay too. I like papyrus, but would never use it in a professional document.

Ooh! I like Papyrus, too. I last used it on invites for a small event.

Comic Sans: The font of authoritative office dwellers. Notice how the bulletins posted telling you what to do usually use Comic Sans. My theory is that they feel the fun in the font detracts from them being dicks.

Our department guidelines for video tutorials (established pre-me) include Comic Sans. I've been waiting for an opportune moment to start this battle. (It probably won't really be a battle, but would be a pain to re-do them.)
- Jàson Puçkett
the postings for the Head of the Life Sciences Library and the Head of the Law Library were both done by a headhunter who uses Comic Sans in their advertising. bru.tal.

Only a wet blanket would note that Comic Sans is a typeface. 11-point Comic Sans is a font. (11-point Comic Sans Italic, if there is such a thing, would be another font.) Well, actually, any Comic Sans is silly outside of...comics. (And since I'm not a sans fan in general, it's a double whammy.) Anyway, good post.

I hate Times New Roman. I use Trebuchet and Calibri for most of my stuff.
- ~Courtney F.
Walt, I think that battle is pretty much lost, except among typesetters.

And I really like Lucida Grande, Georgia, and Vera Sans Mono on the screen. I so seldom produce stuff for print that I haven't thought about that in a long time. I like Optima and Gill Sans, but feel like I have seen a little too much of both of those lately.

Steve: I know, but once in a while... Actually, I'm growing fond of Constantia, although for my own print work I use Berkeley Book (because I paid for it, perhaps?).
- Walt Crawford
I stick to Times and Arial almost exclusively. They are so common as to be invisible to most people, and that is almost always what I want.
