It took me 1.5-years to get RSS after Dave Winer first showed it to me. So, I am getting faster. Took me just a few months to get friendfeed. Glad you kept after me.
- Robert Scoble
So how do I access it? <---I take that back. Didn't realize what I was looking at when I went to the site.
- Mattie Kenny
Josh: it was a seasonal thing last year at this time, so it is no longer possible. We may have to bring it back by popular demand, but for now the entries you see are all from last year.
- Bret Taylor
Bret - bring back those cute little red icons next to the FF posts! easy seasonal "flair" feature!

"Chromium, the open source version of Google Chrome, includes a more customizable new tab page. You can easily pin, remove and reorder thumbnails without having to enter in the edit mode. Pinned items are always displayed in the new tab page, which now shows only 8 thumbnails, even if they're no longer frequently visited. The list of search engines and the recent bookmarks have been removed and there's a new section of recent activities that includes recently-closed tabs and recent downloads. Another new section is called "recommendations", but it's still a work in progress. You can hide the thumbnails, hide the list of recent activities and the recommendations if you don't find them useful."

i thought chrome was open sourced and then packaged in google logos :s you think this new tab page will make its way to the full version :D

I'm now reminded of how I don't like musicals. Still, that's darn clever.

they got it so right about evite: why i don't use it. feels like it's only the 1st act... will share w/ a few theatre friends. (they probably wouldn't get the web stuff. lol)

If the Pre works as fast in practice as it does in that demo--I am IN! I am sick of waiting on my (slow) iPhone all the time ( a geeky complaint perhaps--but true.)
- Rob Michael (Atmos Trio)
If the demo was of the data, I would have my doubts, but it's the calendar. I'm optimistic, since information is goign to be stored in the cloud as opposed to locally (like the iPhone). I can't WAIT.
- Mona Nomura
from IM
For me--the Calendar is a very big deal. Palm was always great at it--my biggest iPhone gripe has been the slow (local) calendar.
- Rob Michael (Atmos Trio)
Did you see the accordion like motions? I like it more than uber scrolling like on the iPhone.
- Mona Nomura
from IM
Mona, agreed--Palm totally 'gets' calendars--and the whole PDA thing in general.
- Rob Michael (Atmos Trio)
Jeez, I should hope so - they've been in the business forever haha! RIM should be worried, not Apple.
- Mona Nomura
yeah, thats pretty retarded stuff. love the dragging on the calender. nice improvement over iphone. this thing is really well thought out...
- tommy payne

Dragging appointments on a palm device--a great feature that Palm has had for YEARS.
- Rob Michael (Atmos Trio)
LOVE that - makes life so much simpler. Right now I'm using Google calendar because I REFUSE to use MobileMe. GoogleCalendar (love Google) but the unintuitiveness makes me want to Hulk Smash my screen. And can you imagine? No more cables. No more synching. Omg, I am getting excited.
- Mona Nomura
from IM
I love how ex-Apple employees are kicking Apple's ass in it's own game. These guys should start an Industrial Design school. They could teach the world a thing or two. Like I said earlier - http://is.gd/jF31 - Pre/Nova UI > iPhone UI.
- vijay
this really shows you what's the value of running multiple apps at the same time. The home button UI on the iphone sucks for multitasking.
- Davide D'Incau
Mona: when you say "since information is going to be stored in the cloud" where is it stored? At Palm? Your Google Calendar?
- Benjamin Golub
after watching this video it made me wonder why nobody has incorporated flight status into calendars? if we can bring in real time weather, why cant we check on flight status and make the necessary adjustments automatically?
- Chad Stoller
When that guy was typing "andr" I immediately thought of Android
- Alfredo 亜瑠布れっど
Benjamin: For the Pre, it would be Palm. @Chad - That is a very good question.
- Mona Nomura
While the Palm intrigues me, I'm more interested to see WebOS on a multitude of Palm devices. A Centro or Treo Pro-type device? A horizontal as opposed to portrait QWERTY? WebOS has some real potential behind it.
- Mike Nayyar
Exactly, Mike - I've been saying this from day one. I am excited for Nova, not inclusive to the Pre. If you look at Palm's job search site, they have tons of hardware related engineering opportunities - http://www.palm.com/us... I can't wait to see the next form factor!
- Mona Nomura
from IM
They could even put WebOS on a netbook and call it Foleo 2 ;-)
- Ken Sheppardson
Ken, idea: Asus is releasing a touchscreen EeePC, right? Put WebOS on that...whoo nelly.
- Mike Nayyar
I'm a fan of both the Pre and iPhone, but note that part of the Pre's performance comes from the significantly faster CPU and more system RAM. They're the same specs the new iPhone runs, so they can both be quite snappy. That said, AnandTech did some real benchmarks and the Pre needs some optimization. The iPhone outclasses a bit in web surfing, but a LOT when it comes to app startup times.
- David Chartier
FYI to Twitter Users: If you follow me and you use the default Avatar, I will never follow you back. Also to spammers, at least you could make a little effort and come up with a fake face.
+1. Actually I don't automatically return follows on Twitter because Twitter's lack of specialized feeds like FriendFeed means my home page would rapidly turn into the noise nightmare that my FB home page currently is. Filtering is key to any such service being usable, and Twitter has no such native feature. Thus, returned follows on Twitter are reserved for people who *really* interest me
- LANjackal
A friend of mine, serial entrepreneur, crack programmer, etc missed the Twitter boat until yesterday when he signed up. I immediately DM'd him to change his avatar away from the default for exactly the reason you stated.
- Capn' One Eye - adrift
metagoeff - yeah I would def recommend anyone to do that before they follow anyone. :)
- Mike Bracco
Also people who have no profile or one with no real information in it, don't get followed back by me.
- Todd Brunner
I always wonder why one eye is bigger than the other.
- david
David, I always thought it was two birds on a wire or something, but I could be wrong of course. By now there are actually more actual newbies without an avatar/photo than spammers. The spammers are getting cleverer by the day in terms of creating semi-realistic profiles (including importing tweets from a number of other peeps). Some newbies can benefit from a friendly DM asking them to fill out their profile + photo for better results.

More votes than eligible voters means fraud.I don't see how else you could interpret it. The questions are was it organized and if so by who?
- Eoghann Irving
They took lessons from Chicago, apparently
- Craig Eddy
I am shocked - Shocked! - to discover VOTE FRAUD in this election!
- Joey Gibson
But this all misses the point. It's not that they found voter fraud, it's that the Guardian Council said so. They've effectively contradicted Ayatollah Khamenei.
- Eoghann Irving
It may be a big deal for the Guardian Council to say that there was fraud, but (they?) also said that "it isn't enough to change the outcome of the election" Right. Exactly a chapter out of Chicago, or US National elections. And let's all be honest with ourselves....How many elections really aren't fixed?
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
It is nothing like any US election ever. The political system in Iran is entirely different and it's a mixture of religion, non-elected officials and democracy. The non-elected officials hold most of the power. The fact that they are not all on the same page is very significant.
- Eoghann Irving
The NYT Lede blog yesterday posted a link to a Chatham House study that reported a turnout of more than 100% in two conservative provinces. (http://www.chathamhouse.org.uk/publica...) Questioning Leo's integrity was uncalled for. I don't know Leo other than listening to his netcasts since he started and despite our limited digital one-way interaction I trust his judgment and wait to hear what he says about a gadget before I seriously considering purchasing.
- Anant Gairola
I think Leo was cool with the "full disclosure" comment. It definitely sent him over the edge when Arrington suggested his review was influenced by a free review phone. It was definitely disrespectful. And, Arrington has acknowledged that.
- Jason Nunnelley
What pissed me off MOST about arrington, is that I think he was deliberately baiting Leo..arrington is all about the 'page hits"..see techcrunch v. Last.fm
- David J. Garcia
from twhirl
Do you think Leo has a comment to make? or is it now best left alone, as apologies have been made.
- Kevin J Hatton
Leo +1. What Arrington did was way out of line
- Goktug Okan Oguz
So what does John C Dvorak make of all this?
- Kevin J Hatton
Arrington is pissed becuase he didn't get one. He ego is out of control and it shows.
- Chris Patterson

- Mike Bracco
Sharon, looks interesting, will try it later.
- Kol Tregaskes
Sharon, have you received your confirmation email yet? I'm still waiting. :-(
- Kol Tregaskes
Unfortunately Kol, I'm unable to use this because of my archaic Windows 2000 OS.
- Sharon McPherson
I'm just downloading and trying it. Looks interesting although it requires .NET 3.5 so it will likely be as much of a memory hog as most AIR apps.
- Kenton
tried this today, and my biggest complaint is that it seemed to insist on using IE to open items.
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
second complaint was the response time...very slow. - I Did like the RSS feeds in it. but that's not enough to give up my PeopleBrowsr.
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
Installing now. On the face of it, this looks like exactly what I'm looking for.
- Todd Brunner
from twhirl
Kol: yes I played with it for a while, and didn't see the means to change it (and IE is certainly not my default browser!) Though this app looks like it could be cool, the .NET and Microsoft reliance are not for me. I thought on first run that the interface needed work. I liked the design layout and the multi-network connectivity, but it seemed to have been missing a lot of the features...
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
wow that demo is really impressive but from what rob has to say i have to agree that id stick to peoplebrowsr for now. need to read up more on this, looks exciting
- Freddie Benjamin
I retried this app, and it did not use my IE. Very weird. I haven't figured out what makes it use the one browser instead of the other. It was a pretty nice app, but I still think that it needs some work to be ready for the big time. Basicall there's nothing in sobees that's not in PeopleBrowsr BUT it's considerably less complicated than PB's advanced mode. The sobees response time was still not very good on my second run.
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
IMO, For more casual users this application may be a nice solution. If you aren't a power-tweeter, and want an integrated "social desktop" application, give this a try. If you're more of a power user I would recommend PeopleBrowsr.
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
Finally gave PeopleBrowsr a whirl on the strength of Rob's endorsements. Wow. It's TweetDeck done better!
- Kathy Fitch
Kathy: In Lite mode it is exactly that. In Advanced mode, it's a complete "Social Desktop" (And Thanks! )
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
Kol - Switched from Sobees to BDule ... Much more stable under Win 7 here
- Charlie Anzman
bdule is only a small part of the sobees application. useful, but not the full experience by any stretch.
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
Hmm. Guess I am too old to figure out how to make it all work...Seems a bit overwhelming!
- John Apps
The light version is faster, more stable and no log-in necessary
- Charlie Anzman
Tried it for a while, but stopped. I found it way too slow to be useful.
- Kenton
Charlie: When you say light version you mean the bDule version?
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
i install this but is giving me an error because it won't start (application say that there is one process that needs to be made...) how can i solve.
- Laurentiu
my suspicion is that you don't have .NET 3.5 properly installed. I've also noticed that exiting the application once running will not necessarily clear all of its processes out of active memory. A false start may leave the partial set running. You may need to use the task manager to end any associated processes (or reboot if that is easier)
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
Just for fun, let's imagine what it would be like if they did a new Star Trek movie for The Next Generation. Who would they cast in the roles? I know the original actors are still young compared to TOS, but this is just for kicks!
Robert Scoble as Neelix. Oh nevermind, that's Voyager.
- Rodfather
I stayed with the historical racial casting thus my picks are: Ben Kingsley as Pickard, Pierce Bronson as Riker,Lawrence Fishburne as Worf,William Hurt as Data, Cuba Gooding Jr as Geordi (on the edge with this one),Rene Russo as Dr Crusher, Jennifer Love Hewitt as Troi (Look them up, you will agree.)
- Travis
Ben Kingsly as Picard??? He actually might be older than Patrick Stewart, and he's short. I like William Hurt, he's a great actor, but I'd say he's a bit old for Data as well. And I don't know what you mean by historical racial casting.
- Matthew
Chris Rock for Laforge...................
- Kevin J Hatton
fan bloody tastic! So we can post here and Twitterers can comment away without any complaints! The only think you need to try and do is bring in comments (about a share) from twitter into here! :)
- Zee.
This is great...should help new users quite a bit.
- Mark Krynsky
OK, I admit I'm dense. As an existing user will this help me find the folks I follow on Twitter?
- Laura Norvig
Cool, is it possible we could have the ability to bulk import or non-FF Twitter friends as private feeds so we can track them in FF? :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
Laura, existing FriendFeed users should just go to http://friendfeed.com/friends... and click on the Twittter (and Facebook and Google) icons to find their friends. Kol, not yet, but I'm hoping to add something like that soon (improved imaginary friends).
- Paul Buchheit
Thx, Paul - guess I haven't been to that page since the launch. btw, I'm definitely coming around to the new friendfeed (colors notwithstanding).
- Laura Norvig
Great to see the standards working -OAuth fro Gogole and Twitter login on Friendfeed
- Kevin Marks
That's a great tool, Paul! Found a few from Twitter and Facebook I didn't realise were on FF...:)
- WoH: Minding her Steves
Oh man, that is suh-weet. Works really well.
- Laura Norvig
Paul, that would be wonderful, thank you. I'm keen to use FF as a kinda Twitter client. I'd love the ability to import my group I've created on Tweetvisor too but that would additionally require exporting facilities from Tweetvisor, and from asking them they've told me it's low priority (which is fair enough).
- Kol Tregaskes
That's fantastic! Sharing with all of my not-yet-friendfeedified twitter friends. Thanks, Paul!
- Eric Johnson
This IS good. Thanks for the hard work, Benjamin Golub.
- Micah
WOW! 313 new Twitter people! Amazing what the OAuth did. Amazing. That just completely Rocks!
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
That was just too easy, and found a bunch of Twitter people. I just subscribed, but I hope they participate. I'm sure I'll have to trim later.
- Eric
Thanks for everything Benjamin and the others, that is really great. :)
- Alp
I was subscribed to exactly 100 of the people I follow on Twitter. Added 93 more. Funny, this is actually helping me find people I *don't* want to follow in either place.
- Laura Norvig
I'm looking forward to the "advanced imaginary friends" section which lets me as an existing FriendFeed user view all the twitter updates from people that don't use FriendFeed.
- Brian Sloane
Just posted this to my stream then saw this, Cool stuff Paul
- Charlie Anzman
Some time ago I spent lots of time in removing my Facebook-Friendfeed integration, and didn't succeed, Facebook refused to remove it. Since that - no info about any other my services to Facebook, ever.
- orie
Happy to hear that there will be an improved imaginary friend option!
- Jacob
The improved imaginary friend feature will be great. No need to visit Twitter much then!
- Pinksy
FriendFeed is constantly bringing new value to the service. I'm loving it!
- Amie Gillingham
I just imported 8,000 new Twitter friends. Worked MUCH BETTER than last time.
- Robert Scoble
Smart move guys. A quick way to grow FF users is to tap into the current hot properties. Can't believe other Social Networks are so slow to respond.
- Neill Adamson
Paul, is there a way to sync it so that people I no longer follow on Twitter are unfollowed on FriendFeed?
- Jorge Escobar
Great news on the advanced imaginary friends. That plus the ability to comment back to Facebook posts as easily as we reply to Twitter would be killer.
- Kevin Kuphal
Ca passe 50 fois par jour ce truc là sur FriendFeed ! C''est pas possible d'arr^ter, j'en ai marre de le voir franchement ... ^^
- Jean-Marie Gall™
from twhirl
@Robert cannot seem to do that with groups. What I want to do: Concentrate different RSS feeds (e.g. newswires) which do not necessarily have an account in any other social network into one imaginary friend's collection of feeds.
- Mark Jacobs
Mark, "groups" (formerly "rooms") are able to import feeds just like regular users (and imaginary friends). See https://friendfeed.com/xoogle-... for example (imports the blogs of all known xoogle startups). The only thing special about imaginary friends is that they don't have usernames (or rather we assign a random 128 bit username).
- Paul Buchheit
Paul, the DM option on imaginary friends should perhaps be removed. Also, imaginary friends do not show up on the search dropdown list when you type in their name in the search box.
- Kol Tregaskes
Paul, is it possible to automatically create "imaginary friends" from twitter following list? What I would like is to read all my Twitter in FriendFeed; many of twitterers though are not on FF, so I have to create them by hand which is tedious. Also, it would be nice to allow to add them to some special list.
- Ihar Mahaniok
Ihar, see my comment up in the middle and Paul's reply. Looks like FF are working on it. :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
Still would like an imaginary friend than making bunch of Groups to simulate peoples that doesn’t use FF. BTW, unlike the Facebook Connect login, when I tried logging in using Twitter, it made a new account for me on FF instead of opening my own (which also has Twitter activity added).
- Natsuki Seika
Nice - I would kill for that on my G1. Myst was my favorite game for years. Tried the sequel (Riven?) and it was so big and open-ended I just got lost. Could never find the corner of the tape to start peeling, so to speak.
- Mike Hartman
Downloading now - must avoid playing in church ;-)
- Jesse Stay
I never played it, but was always intrigued by it. Maybe I'll give it a go.
- Derrick
Whoa, really? Hmmm...I put so many hours into that back in the day. Never finished Riven, though. Got totally frustrated and quit. Now, if they get THAT into the app store, I'll be impressed. Four discs in the PC version.
- Jandy
They need the Kings Quest series now. I really miss that.
- Jesse Stay
Yeah, at the time I think Riven was the biggest game I'd ever come across, if not actually the biggest one released. And King's Quest would be awesome. I think I tracked those down for some emulator or other a while back, but I can't remember what I did with them.
- Mike Hartman
Definitely some memories in Myst. Actually kept a PAPER notebook.
- Denise
Denise, me too! Some of that stuff required DIAGRAMS.
- Jandy
Wow. If i do install this, I may never do ANYTHING again :)
- Roberto Bonini
Myst came out when I was in high school, and me and two of my friends played it every day after school until we beat it. I felt very nostalgic hearing the (wonderful) music in the linked video review. I'm not sure how much fun it would be now, though, having already figured out the puzzles before.
- Tom Small
Tom, I'm pretty sure I've forgotten all the puzzles, so it'd be all new again! I think I'm gonna do it - I got and enjoyed the iPhone version of Oregon Trail out of nostalgia, why not Myst?
- Jandy
I still have my Myst notebook too. Trying to decide if it's worth $6 (and how many hours?) to do it again. EDIT: LOL, tucked inside my Myst book is my hand-drawn map of the PS2 Baldur's Gate world.
- Tinfoil 2.0
Jandy: True. I'm sure I've forgotten most if not all of them, too. I'm thinking about buying it, too, if only to enjoy the ambience and music in some of the worlds again.

I think she's actually American, not Australian as the article says...
- Charley M
Patricia, that is Megan Fox from Jonah Hex and Transformers
- RAPatton
Oh ew. I don't like her at all. Though I'd be happy to be as attractive as she is, she looks average to me for how "hot' the media tries to portray her - I think it's all spin, angling by her PR and what not
- Patricia
@Anna -- My wife is half my age...is that not good in your book? Just curious...neither of us object to it.
- Douglas Hopkins
@patricia I think I like her for that reason! I don't know if I'd say average, but she seems more human...with real body proportions. Unlike the surreal look of models like Gisele Bündchen, Naomi Campbell or Daniela Pastova.
- Jess
To all my naysayers- it's the diff. between being attracted to her, and not. As someone who is not, I notice weird things like long torso... I could point to a hot guy and you would be like "his hair looks slimy" etc.

I am talking to Steve Levenger CEO and co-founder of Levenger http://www.levenger.com (his blog is http://blog.wellreadlife.com ). He is trying to convince me that paper is not dead. He has some great ideas, but needs more. Leave them here.
- Robert Scoble
I ♥ Levenger. There will always be people who like the high-touch pleasures of reading well-typeset books and writing on fine papers with high-quality writing instruments. I'm waiting for an order in the mail as we speak.
- Tinfoil 2.0
Not sure what it's like in the US, but here in Australia a lot of government regulations still require paper based records to be kept. Add to that the fact that only a few companies are setup to distribute letters and bills electronically. Also junk mail / paper-based advertising is a big part of the reason paper is still not dead.
- Jason Cartwright
Answer: electronic alternatives are not ubiquitous and universally accessible. it's making great strides, but not quite there. Also, universal wireless has something to do with it as well.
- Mark "Rizzn" Hopkins
Hah. He said friendfeed makes paper look boring.
- Robert Scoble
The interface is both intuitive and ubiquitous. Paper's lighter in small quantities and the form factor is more adjustable. Also, most things that destroy paper will take out a computer as well.
- Terry Robinson
Bring back the Circa Compact organization pages (ToDo / Goals), Steve!!!!!!! Paper is dead if you quit supplying great products for the medium!
- Jack Collins
Ask him why Levenger doesn't accept Paypal. I'd buy a lap desk this second if it did.
- Kent
Unfortunately, I can't agree, would love to hear Steve's points. I feel that the soon to be released flexible OLED devices will take the place of current newspapers, electronic forms are replacing paper forms, electronic medical records are replacing filing cabinets of patience history, digital media storage are making library contents accessible from almost anywhere in the world. Yes, this means that we are placing reliance on digital media, but weren't our forefathers placed faith on stone tablets
- Vinko
Vinko: the point he made that stuck with me is that things on paper that are signed are worth more.
- Robert Scoble
Yeah, there's no such thing as a digital original.
- Tinfoil 2.0
auditors. auditors want more then just electronic proof. first they screw up accounting; then we pay them to fix it (SOX); then they make us have dupes of everything in paper.
- clarke thomas
Brian: you are absolutely wrong there. Paper is MUCH more expensive.
- Robert Scoble
I love Levenger, Moleskine, and Franklin Covey stuff, but I have this mental block where I'm not willing to "mess up" the nice stuff, so I end up writing on index cards instead.
- Jon Adair
What I really love about paper versus digital is that, especially with index cards or loose sheets, I can spread things out and see much more at once than on my phone or even my laptop. I'd love to see someone make a really good Moleskine-like sketchbook that really opens up flat. And would it kill anyone to make journals, sketchbooks, etc. that have a built-in slot for a full-sized pen or pencil?
- Jon Adair
People who don't have computers (especially those that don't have easy access to computers, either) need paper.
- Rochelle
Both! I love physical notebooks. I also love the NET. I've debated this keep notes on paper or digital for ages. I've a little symbol system that has 'hyperlink' symbols from the NET (e.g. Google Doc) to the physical notebooks and a filing system (based on Star Names) that covers both. As a filing system it's bizarre but as a context in which I know I'm putting everything in a findable place it works well for me. I often start a note online, and continue it in one notebook and finish it in another.
- Julian Edward
Leave a comment here on why paper is not dead? I think I'll just mail the guy a letter. Where's my quill?
- shelisrael1
Several reasons come to mind: First the effective resolution of paper is much larger than that on a computer screen. (Of most screens, anyway) It's much easier to look at a big drawing, long chunk of text or pagefuls of equations on paper than on the computer. Second electronic ink input options like the Tablet PC are decent but very far removed from the actual mechanics of writing on paper. The PC is heavy and expensive and the format of the Windows electronic notebook is not portable in editable format.
- Jiahao Chen
For people like me who have to think carefully before buying gadgets, it's hard to beat the cost of pen and paper. Third, you don't have to power up the paper before writing on it. You can write notes on a bus where you'd fret about ruining a HDD. Fourth, if you drop paper or spill on it, it's usually no biggie. Try saying that for your laptop! Fifth, and most importantly, the current state of hardware and software is well-suited only to the input of ASCII (and some limited Unicode) text entry.
- Jiahao Chen
It is an incredible pain to work with information that is not easily notated in text form. Drawings are ok, but try working with chemical structures or mathematical equations on a computer. It's often an exercise in frustration reading documentation and/or shelling out lots of money for specialized software to deal with these data. Sixth, I write and scribble pretty fast, so much so that the time lag for Tablet PCs to process what I'm doing with the stylus is noticeable and distracting.
- Jiahao Chen
Sometimes Windows will hiccup and part of a scribble will disappear off the input buffer while Windows deals with disk paging or something like that. Having said all that, computers are great for many things, especially for typesetting documents and page layouts for things that are ready to show to other people. However they are still far from ideal media to play around with ideas and words, and scribbles often do a far better job than dealing with the intricacies of data entry on a computer when thinking.
- Jiahao Chen
OK, sorry for the terribly long answer and possible abuse of medium, but paper and pen works far better for me when jotting down ideas as they are forming, and are usually better than the computer for organizing these ideas as they coalesce into coherence. Once past that stage however, computers are far superior for producing legible output that you wouldn't be embarrassed to show people. BTW I love Levenger stationery! If I could afford it, I'd buy it all the time. Too bad I'm still stuck in grad school.
- Jiahao Chen
Remember Minority Report where Tom Cruise rearranges information on a big board in front of him? You can do that today with paper products.
- Bruce Lewis
I love the Levenger catalog!!!! Really nice, high quality paper / pen / ink products. Geared towards execs who remember the virtues of writing
- Susan Beebe
I confess, I am a Levenger addict. I am also an IT professional, who uses many paper based systems for managing GTD, as well as a paper based planner, which is wrapped in Levenger's Bomber Jacket leather. I have several notebooks with Bomber Jacket leather, and for some reason, it adds to the enjoyment of putting pen to paper. I also use "The Hit List", which is a Mac GTD app, but honestly, the feel of good paper, with a good pen can't be beat. Instant archive, and no worry about media failures.
- Bruce Garlock
I don't want any time-sensitive information via paper, it's too old. However I like paper for portability, longevity, tactile sensation and smell. Moleskines, post-its, notepads etc are all part of my daily life. BTW, love Levenger.com . I'm an old customer in Australia.
- Cait
I dispute that paper is always more expensive. Digital storage requires data conversion (if it's old), redundancy (if it's important and you want to keep something for a long time), hardware, monitoring and eletricity. But yes, sometimes it's more expensive.
- Cait
I do the vast majority of my work in digital form, but I also love paper, a fountain pen, good ink. Each tool has its place.
- Rob McNair-Huff
Paper can do so much more than computers can at this point. Try making a 3-D tactile model with a computer in just a few seconds. You probably don't want to see how far your computer can glide, unless you're mad at it. Paper is easier on the eyes than most monitors and screens at this point and even the ones that are getting closer to a soft medium for viewing paper is quicker. Paper is extremely cheap for area and the ability to write multiple contextual ideas down. Paper has at least another 20 years.
- Jimminy, CoG of FF
It's not dead because my parents and my wife still use it. It is going away though.
- Jesse Stay
It's also not dead because there are still art-forms that revolve around it. I will always still love drawing and painting on paper or canvas.
- Jesse Stay
i hate paper clutter. i am forced to collect them in order to document write-offs for taxes. it's unfortunately still a necessary evil.
- sɹǝɥʇɐǝɟʞɔɐןq
blackfeathers, check out Evernote - I've gotten rid of most my paper through them.
- Jesse Stay
I'm sure when Guttenburg first published his books, some people clamored for scrolls. Humans tend to be sentimental about technology. It's only a matter of time until paper is gone, and I say bring it on.
- Ian Wright
It's simply a massively entrenched technology. People joke around about stone tablets, but clay tablets really were the dominant medium for information storage for probably almost 4,000 years. Modern paper has been around for less than 2,000 years. I'm thinking its probably going to be around for a least a little while longer.
- Victor Ganata
Still always handy having some nice, solid records. Assume a worst-case scenario, if we had it ALL electronic...one decent, world-sized electro-magnetic impulse, there goes the entire planet's accumulated knowledge in one hit. Those ancients at least still have their stuff around 4000 years later because clay tablets and other solid mediums LASTED the distance.
- George Hall (Australia)
Wow. I'm awed by the dialog in response to Robert's question about paper. We are living in interesting times as so many of us seek and find new balances between old technology and new--balance points that are themselves in a state of flux. We feel it's our duty at Levenger to side with paper and help it evolve in the face of the tremendous evolutionary pressure from advancing technology. If ultimately paper goes extinct, let it be a gradual and noble death.
- Steve Leveen
One bit of advice that I gave to Robert and I'd like to share with all of you. In the waning days of the Golden Age of paper-based books, grab hold of the books you cherish and write in the margins. Write in the front and back and everywhere in between. History has shown that the most valuable books of all are those written in by famous people. And you are all famous to your family and descendants. Actual ink leaving physical impressions on natural paper in your own hand--it will never come again.
- Steve Leveen
One curious little followup to this...I took a look today at the Twitter hashtags #vicfires and #fireupdates. NO tweets from #fireupdates showed up, even though it was a busy hashtag during the Victorian Bushfires. #vicfires only goes back to 30 days ago. Very good example of the IMPERMANCY of the electronic form. Any of us wanting to refer back to February 2009 for historical data on the Twitter record now really have nothing to refer to. Makes me wish I'd done my February 2009 tweets on clay tablets
- George Hall (Australia)
I guess I don't understand how the media is supposed to work. Seems like an unnecessary filter in most cases. A filter that doesn't necessarily have the sources best interests in mind.
- Rah-PM 2012
I think the filter is historical -- at one time going through the "press" was the only way to get your message out (and the only way for the public to make assessments of the message). Like the new reality of failing papers and TV networks there is a new reality for elector to elected official (and vice versa) communication.
- Brian Sullivan
Well, since they elected him, I guess they feel they have right of first refusal....
- Mike Shields
"Unnecessary filter"!? Oh, so you want the administration to tell the people what they need to hear and cut out independent journalists who can sniff out stories that aren't so positive, is that it? Why not just move to one of the many other countries where the government controls the media.
- Dawn
Uhm. I think you're missing the entire point, Dawn: Why should the media be upset if the government wants to talk directly to the people? That doesn't prevent them from discovering other things that "aren't so positive" to report on. Of course, that implies that they actually have the ability to find and report actual news.
- Rah-PM 2012
It's just like sports writers being upset when athletes blog or Twitter stuff directly to their fans with out going through them first. Do your job. Find and report news. It all shouldn't be handed to you just because.
- Rah-PM 2012
Having a seat in the White House means many millions of dollars in revenues. It's the most profitable job in media and because only about 40 people can fit into the White House briefing room it means a built-in lack of competition. The fact that Obama is going around them means a major loss in revenues for the media organizations. Oh, and Dawn, give me a break, these guys don't sniff out negative stories. They pretty much just take what the president gives them each morning and run with it.
- Robert Scoble
Anyone notice that Obama didn't take a question during his press conference from a single business reporter? And he's so "open" and "transparent." "Let me talk directly to the people" means "I want to set the conversation and not allow opposing rhetoric." That's why they have a war room in the white house to personally crush people who don't agree with Obama's policies. You people better take off your rose colored glasses and open your eyes. This is Nixon's enemies-list White House all over again.
- Dawn
Everyone knows that if you get too negative you get kicked out of the room, which means your organization loses millions of dollars in revenues and a LOT of prestige. (All the TV networks sit in first few rows so everyone sees that the big networks are there).
- Robert Scoble
I don't like the media's line, "He's just falling back on his strong public speaking ability." So what it's one of his strong points use it! Though I see Dawn's point as to not accepting questions regarding openness.
- The Real sofarsoShawn
Dawn, what are you talking about? I'm actually confused. This is a townhall, not a press conference. Why would he be taking questions from reporters?
- Rah-PM 2012
Dawn: Seriously? Where were you when the Bush admin was hand-picking people to attend "town halls" and actively preventing people from asking tough questions.
- The original Kevin
Robert, I agree that the press haven't been doing their job. But the press's fawning over Obama is going to stop. It already has in some circles. But they need to be given access and not be shut out.
- Dawn
Hey the Media runs a Union shop. How dare he not let the talking heads spin his words. ;)
- Tony C (Unrated)
from fftogo
Dawn: I agree that they need to be given access. I don't think the two are mutually exclusive. By the way, I remember hearing the same complaints when Microsoft started up http://channel9.msdn.com -- the journalists thought their revenues were being attacked.
- Robert Scoble
Sorry, Rahsheen, but we didn't like it when Bush pulled this shit. We should not accept it from Obama, either. Cheney used to "Speak to the people" too, which translated into a speech at a PAC rally and shaking a few hands.
- Peter Ghosh
I don't think they've been shut out, the general public has just been let in, rendering them useless. Why watch the media's interpretation of what Obama said when I can go to his website and watch him say it himself?
- Rah-PM 2012
Hmm if I don't do my job I get fired, maybe the press is getting fired?
- Bill Pennington
from twhirl
Peter, when Bush did his townhalls, it was with pre-selected (GOP donors and staff) people asking questions given to them. As for Cheney speaking to conservative groups, that's not even the same thing as this, he had every right to speak to those groups.
- Anika
Kevin: exactly. Every president controls his image through control of the media. Reagan did it. Bush did it. Clinton did it. Now Obama is doing it. It's the media's job to get around the gatekeepers and figure out the truth. Remember Watergate? How did that get broken? A secret source that met with journalists away from the briefing room.
- Robert Scoble
Bill: ask yourself, why does ABC TV have a seat in the White House briefing room, but not YouTube (or, better yet, not Huffington Post)? Obama just gave YouTube a seat there and the rest of the news organizations are pissed because their revenues are under attack. The rest of this discussion is just noise. Truth is, by going directly to the people Obama is giving more access and will get more attention on his ideas. The press hates this cause now we're watching ABC TV (or CNN) even less.
- Robert Scoble
@Rahsheen - I am referring to his Press Conference where he didn't interact enough with the press IMO. He was clearly POed at some of them, but has an obligation to interact with them. I've seen better performances from him.
- Peter Ghosh
A lot of you are missing the point of what I said: The media has no right to be upset about Obama conducting live townhall meetings and speaking directly to the people instead of talking only to them. The only reason they would be upset about him doing this is that they have no real skill in finding news on their own and rely on the administration spoon-feeding them the news.
- Rah-PM 2012
Robert -- http://www.editorandpublisher.com/eandp... -- the Huffington Post does have a "seat" along with a whole host of traditional "outsiders" - I am sure the revenue is what the "major" news outlets are upset about -- the reporting tide has changed and they are being shunted to the side in favour of less traditional news providers
- Brian Sullivan
He's obligated to talk to the press? Not sure I agree on that. He talks to enough press to satisfy me and he does in fact speak directly to the people on a regular basis. What function does him speaking to the media/press serve? Whatever questions they would have are answered at some point.
- Rah-PM 2012
Which they do Rahsheen. Keep in mind this group spent 8 years being stenographers. Most of them have no real journalism skills any more, if they ever had them in the first place. The media feels it's the gatekeeper. The reason they are upset is because Obama is giving us the info without the layers of pundit asshattery included on the news shows. With the Bush WH, they had the questions already, they knew the answers already. They didn't have do any real work.
- Anika
Dawn: if by "fawning over" you mean being ridiculous, then maybe. See, as proof the "analysis" of Obama's last press conference. He got dinged by the "fawning" press for talking so much about the economy, the budget, etc. when he was responding to THEIR questions.
- The original Kevin
There are really three distinct modes here, and I think we're lumping two together: There's (1) let the press ask questions, (2) let specific, random citizens ask unfiltered questions, and (3) generate questions by some democratic nomination/vote process. Personally, I find (3) the least desirable. That seems to generate the most general, mundane, middle of the road Qs ala "What are you going to do about the economy/health care/education/etc." I'd rather see specific questions about implementation...
- Ken Sheppardson
...and you get that with (1) or (2). With (1) you get (we hope) thoughtful, probing questions from people who understand the issues... if journalists are doing their jobs. Not so much with (2). Come to think of it, I like (good) journalists. Who'd have imagined.
- Ken Sheppardson
But heck. You can do all three. Is somebody in the media complaining that they don't have enough access?
- Ken Sheppardson
"Over the weekend, SeesmicSeesmic reviewsSeesmic reviews announced their own desktop application for Facebook, as well as plans to integrate Status Updates into their own TwitterTwitter reviewsTwitter reviews client - TwhirlTwhirl reviewsTwhirl reviews. Today, popular Twitter client TweetDeckTweetDeck reviewsTweetDeck reviews is beginning testing on a new version of its software that includes integration with Facebook as well. In a blog post, TweetDeck describes the functionality offered in what for now is an optional test version of the software: “You can click on the Facebook icon at the top and, once you have signed into Facebook and given TweetDeck authorization, this will add a new column full of each of your friends most recent status update which updates automatically once a minute.""
- Amani
Friendfeed indeed. Facebook is not a network, it is a way of life. If I want that way of life, I'll go there. Microblogging apps need to fit into YOUR life. It seems that no one other than Twhirl understands the importance of other networks. This is just a bandwagon jump on the part od tweetdeck. Pah!

from twhirl
above shows us how much variance there is in the term "cup"... generally a "cup" of coffee is supposed to be 6-8 oz. I probably consume 20 ounces or so in a day (at most)
- Anthony Citrano
Usually 1-3 triple shots a day (which I guess equates to 3-9 cups?). BTW, Robert Hafer should have signed an endorsement deal with Folgers...15-20 cups/day?! That's impressive.
- Thomas Tracey
I usually have a mug of about 10 oz for a cup
- Robert Hafer
I drink about 12 cups (as in the measurement) of espresso ground, dark Sumatran in a 24hr period. Some is drip made, some is espresso machine made. I'm a freak.
- Michael W. May
Usually 2 espresso shots and 2 cups of the dark roast at the local coffee stand. Not nearly as bad as I used to be.
- matthew john ernisse
Couple of espressos - maybe a coffee here and there.
- Mattb4rd
About 8 to 10 cups a day. Just regular fresh ground coffee, that I , or my wife, makes ourselves. A dash of milk, no sugar. None of that expensive fancy stuff.
- Ian May
allot, like a pot a day (a pot is what 12 cups?)
- chaz2b
I have one coffee drinker: my wife, and that's enough for me ;)
- Jemm
2-4 cups every morning before I leave the house for work. No more. No less. LOL
- Sean
2 cups every morning and on very rare occasions a coffee in the early afternoon. When the in-laws visit we have decaf after dinner.
- Heather Solos
I have an obsession with my Keurig KCup brewer and will have a minimum of 2 8 oz. cups each work day. When I'm more tired, cold, or enjoying a particularly good coffee blend I'll drink more.
- Sally - Skyrimmin' It
3 in the morning; maybe another 1 or 2 in the afternoon, but not always; sometimes a decaf in the evening.
- Steve Lowe
Three not really big mugs. I really need the caffeine. Might be a little bad...
- Meryn Stol
It depends on the kind of day I'm having. At work I will tend to have anywhere from two to five cups in the morning and at least one more cup post-lunch. I would say 90% of the time it's just two cups in the morning, one in the afternoon. On my days off, I don't usually have more than whatever my French press can make.
- Hookuh Tinypants
I don't drink coffee because I don't like having it, may be I am the wrong one to comment here !
- Jayavasanthan J
Increases with my stress level. These days only 1-2 cups (very relaxed) of strong, black coffee: never ruin good coffee with sugar or milk
- Kristine Lowe
That's hilarious! Reminds me of ppl who put "Java: 5 years of experience" on their CV when Java was only a public language for 3.
- Kevin Elliott
A profession usually nets one some sort of financial compensation. Who's paying these "professional tweeters' for all of their time spent tweeting?
- Jeff P. Henderson
I need some names and output to judge what they're up to. I might be interested in supplementing my income :)
- WoH: Minding her Steves
Whatever happened to all the Professional Friendsters?
- James
And I appreciate that "meeting the dictionary definition" is short-sighted, but the point is, how do they do it as a job? How do they make a living out of it? Assuming they mean that they're "experts", then who defines the criteria of "expert tweeter"? Crazyness.
- Neil Barnwell
from twhirl
@Bob Blunk: Sure, I hadn't thought of people *employing* people to Twitter on their behalf. Strange world we live in.
- Neil Barnwell

-nuff said....or not said. I don't want any more snowballs thrown at me...PLEASE!
- Jennifer Windrum
and you people complain about a little chapstick and lips every now and again. sheesh. I'd much rather see chapstick and lips any day of the week over getting a "crush jason alexmi" request or getting *two* sammy is sexy requests in the same day!
- Thomas Hawk
no doubt. i'm always blocking apps. i don't want play around with hatchlings or pieces of flair or get involved in any dang food fights.
- Jason Shultz
from twhirl
That right there is the biggest reason I can't stand Facebook and I would dump it in a heartbeat if it didn't mean that all of my family and distant friends would instantly have a shitfit.
- Hookuh Tinypants
Also - Facebook = "Real life Friends". If you only friend people you're actually friends with it's actually a terrific application for keeping in touch. If you try to treat it like a Friendfeed/Twitter/MySpace then you wind up with a load of crap and its utility takes a nose dive.
- Eric P
thankfully i've avoided this kind of garbage
- chrisofspades
I didn't add them. They are invitations.
- Thomas Hawk
Totally agree with you. couldn't have said it better.
- Karoli
@Haggis: Agreed. And I too block pretty much every app invite I get. The irritating part is when someone gets all uppity with me because I didn't return their snowball or superpoke them back. I'm like...srsly? You send me that ridiculous crap and then have the nerve to get mad at ME for not participating?
- Hookuh Tinypants
@Amanda: I tell/have told all my friends that they can send those requests, but that I categorically deny all of them. It's surprising how that already decreases the number of requests.
- Rene, Pro Button Pusher
I do get tired of all that crap. My bro sent me a video to watch on Farcebook a few days ago, but to see it I would have to download yet another silly wall. I don't need more than one, nor do I need to install multiple calendars so you can see when my birthday is. Go to my profile.
- Ian May
For every app invite i block, i seem to get twice as many the following day. Its better now their not all over people profiles pages when they do get added though.
- Simon Wicks
Thomas - I think you're really gettign confused between Facebook and these leeches trying to suck off the Facebook platform. Just ignore them and these requests would never appear. Or better yet - DEfriend anyone who would be so stupid as to include you on a list of requests. JUST DUMP THEM - and everything will be fine.
- Marc Canter
But seriously...you really should accept my Pirates vs. Ninjas request.
- Adam
Yep. I put a moratorium on adding apps and made that abundantly clear, but I still get all the cr@p.
- Julie Barrett
from twhirl
this is just one example of the silliness and boring nature of facebook. Frankly it's just not engaging. There's so much wrong with it and this is just the start. FriendFeed is a far superior platform for probably 100 different reasons.
- Thomas Hawk
I have found that blocking invites from certain users and applications is very helpful.
- Adam
@Thomas I agree with you 100%. I think FB is near unusable.. You're right it's not engaging - it's more of a distraction and there's very little value proposition for me to connect with people. I get the same with email/IM/flickr.. FF is far superior in my estimation
- andy brudtkuhl
that's just crazy! insane! crazy?...insane?
- .LAG liked that
Holy crap and I cry when I see 3 of them on my bar.
- Anika
Just looked at this and confirmed that I have no interest in joining Facebook.
- TranceMist
I'm not a fan of the tons of virtual goods and apps either, but I've got tons of friends who would qualify as "normal people" and cannot imagine living without FB. It's a rich way for them to keep in touch with people. I like FF a bunch but I also recognize the bandwagon effect that exists with FB.
- Cecyl Hobbs
@Morton Fox: I do the same. Problem is that you have to opt out of each crappy app that anyone you know has managed to dig up. If you don't log in often and deal with these head-on, the simple act of opting out can be daunting.
- Keith McCammon
It's striking how many people hate Facebook who nevertheless for various reasons feel unable to abandon it -- not so much a virus as a fungus. It's depressing to think that due to network lock-in my daughter may be stuck on it for years to come.
- Tim Ostler
something will come along to replace it. it's the inevitability of things.
- Jason Shultz
from twhirl
I don't get why people who don't like apps don't block them all, or why people who do like them feel the need to send invites to everyone, let alone whine that you haven't accepted. Most apps I use have a button that shows your friends with the app, and I only send to those.
- Lix
@Keith IIRC there's a greasemonkey script that lets you block them all at once.
- Lix
Yep. Stuff like that's why I get the heebie jeebies about 5-10 mins after logging into Facebook.
- Susan A. Kitchens
Ahhhhhh, the voice of reason! I'm so glad I'm not alone.
- Rob Fahrni
yep, I just IGNORE these types of apps/notifications- I have SO many sent to me and I would literally need to quite my job to attend to them full-time. It's insane. I think 95% of them are a waste of time imho... there are always going to be those people who love to do the spamming but it doesn't mean you need to pay attention to them :) One part of FB that I also do not love.
- Deanna Belle Govoni
This is one of the big reasons why I try and limit friends to people I know in person, and a few others who I can trust to not act like invite-wielding idiots.
- Chris Charabaruk
Why would you blame facebook for you having idiot friends?
- Richard Lawler
Who ever said Facebook is cool? It's a rambling mess suitable only for people with lots of spare time and nothing else to do with it.
- Todd Brunner
from twhirl
shit like that is what makes me hate FB. they need an option saying "please auto ignore all invites from everyone". i used to have a greasemonkey script which did it, but the bloody things are getting smarter
- Terry O'Fee
Richard: Who said I have idiot friends? Intelligence has nothing to do with people trying to share their fave FB apps with everyone else, especially before Facebook put in limitations to keep apps from spamming their users' friends.
- Chris Charabaruk
Thing is, once burned, twice shy. So only people I can trust to not send me lots of invites get to be friended to me on Facebook.
- Chris Charabaruk
it's just some people. i know great people who forward every single email online. there's one person, ive given her an old yahoo email adress so i dont hurt her feelings :P
- Terry O'Fee
Smart people catch on to spamming apps quickly, they recognize when they've been spammed, instead of signing up and passing them along, or continuing to request you join (insert game of the week.) If your friends can't figure out what's annoying to you, how can you expect Facebook to?
- Richard Lawler
immediately block app requests as they come in! according to the picture there were not so many apps involved here, but blocking them from the beginning on spares you more invitations..
- Johannan Edelman
I thought my FaceBook was bad when requests piled up, but you definitely win! I don't feel quite so irritated about it, now ;o)
- Seth Greenblatt
Yeah, that's one thing I hate about FB, those cutesy apps. I almost never participate in that...
- Rick Cogley
Aman: Sad to see I'm not the only one who suffers so.
- Chris Charabaruk
WOAH! You know, I think it is funny, I removed ALL my apps the other day, AND told all my friends that I removed my apps, and they are STILL sending me app invites. If you keep up on it, it's fine. If you don't, it looks like this... /sigh
- Danielle Closs
Some apps are good but most are just spam. Good apps are hard to find but there are a few nice ones out there, I like the ff app and the twitter app. I also use the slayers app and the compare people app. I'm a little shallow.
- Wesley Robin Guerrero
I hate the updates that I don't need. A large number of apps are useless.
- Palak Mathur
if your notification board looks like this, you just seem to agree to all those useless "send xyz a flower/pet/other crap"-applications. ignore those and you'll have your personal internet-operating system based on your friends and your life
- natadd
from twhirl
Mine looks almost as bad as that and I only have 8 friends (real life friends & family)
- April
Thanks for the pic Thomas, you've reaffirmed my decision to ignore all the app requests I get from friends with too much time on their hands.
- pitlord
from twhirl
I like FF for commenting on stories and seeing a discussion. I like FB for smaller discussions. FF bigest minus for me is the lack of a notification if someone specifically responds to me.
- ChiliMac
That's a big list... I'm getting tired of hitting the ignore as well.
- Gary Gifford Jr
I'd be a rich man if if I got a penny for everytime I click ignore. I'm just not making that much use out Facebook nowadays! That's why I decided to give FriendFeed a test trial.
- Vincent Nguyen
This is why they made the block function, I've blocked over 500 applications and I don't get many requests anymore. I promise, it works.
- Aaron Myers
It looks like facebook just threw up on your screen, IGNORE ALL!! And back away slooowly...
- Peter To
I don't get it. I have 600+ friends on FB (not crazy huge, but not an insubstantial number). About once a week, I do a combo of ignore-app's and ignore-all-apps from a few friends, and voila! In about 1-2 minutes, I'm all set. 1-2 minutes a week. How many friends do you have on FB, Thomas? And how many years has it been since you've cleared things out? While I think FB shares some of the blame, is this situation any different than not cleaning *anything else* out once in a while?
- Adam Lasnik
I use Remember the Milk. Not that I'm helping at all.
- Araceli
Have not used either one. I use Omni Focus. Things seems to me a polished version of that. If you have used Omni Focus and liked it then you may like Things.
- walterh
I tried Things, but didn't like that it resides just on my Mac. RememberTheMilk is online and supports adding tasks via Twitter. If the tool isn't easy and convenient, you're not going to use it. RememberTheMilk wins on both counts.
- Brian Shoemaker
I’ve used both but I prefer Things. RTM is better for integrating into things like google calendar, etc, but I like Things for the interface (shortcut keys, tag filtering, etc.)

As Things is Mac only - and I'm cross-platform, I have to stick to RTM. I still think it's good and don't see anything out there to better it
- Stuart Webb
I forgot to mention Toodledo publishes to various formats including iCal. Too bad Google Sync server doesn't seem to support vTODO objects.
- Paul Reynolds
I use Protopage. I create tabs for different projects and each of those tabs have their to-do lists, sticky notes and related bookmarks. I keep one master page for my every day to-do's and what not.
- ChiliMac
I started using the GMail's task features... suited me fine for a while. I just shifted to doing all that offline on Microsoft's OneNote

I would always prefer to be alone. I've done the "hang out with someone you don't like" thing before and it made me want to stab my own face off.
- Hookuh Tinypants
All by myself. I'd rather be. All by myself. Woo ooo ooo
- Morgan
Alone. I hate being around people I don't like.
- James Ferguson
Ohhhh, much rather be alone. And I am an extrovert for a living. I'd rather be alone 'cause I really like me! Why tolerate someone I do not like when I got this fine bitch at home? Please....
- Nakachi
Depends, sometimes I find it interesting to converse with people I don't like to see their "side" of things, though I tend to stay non-confrontational in those cases. =p
- Daniel Bruce
me myself and I....the only ones who understand me anyway
- suzanne
Nakachi, that's what I tell my husband. Interesting because in social situations, I'm the butterfly and he's a wallflower. But he always wants people over whether we like them or not. I'm like "I'd rather chew my toenails than hang with them for 5 min."
- Anika
+1 Robert DeBord and LOL @ Morgan. Depends. Being alone *edit* can be selfish for those who love themselves like Nakachi, but it's hard for Derrick's roommate because she's got issues (I think this has already been established), and then there are the martyrs like me who will sit with someone I don't like if something is to be gained by that person. Or maybe I'm just fooling myself.
- Trish Haley
Jason, I'm thinking about a friend of mine, who, well...we hang out from time to time, but it seems like it's a chore. Re: my roommate, the poor thing. She seems to just like chaos. It doesn't matter to her. But the thought of kicking it at home alone (which I love and covet) might as well be murder.
- Derrick
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. There is a larger gap than your logic can leap between selfish and loving one's self. If you do not like someone, where is the obligation to be around them? Why am I selfish for having the ability to gain from myself?
- Nakachi
hey, you're not the only one nakachi. i liked what you said, but it depends on the situation. if someone you don't like could use your company at the moment then choosing to be by yourself would then become selfish. EDIT: I edited my first comment... reread and looked like I was calling Nakachi selfish. Sorry! For the record, I like her style.
- Trish Haley
Trish, I don't see it as selfish per se. I love myself, I amuse me and I'm not going to bore the shit out of myself. I think selfish would be to participate in a charade where you lead the other person to think you're interested in them. Derrick, I have (had) friends like that. I have to mentally prep myself to deal with them for a few hours. To me, nothing is worth that, even the relief you feel when you part.
- Anika
Trish, I think choosing to be with someone you don't like as though you like them just because they want some company is false and misleading, much worse in my book than selfish. But, you are right, it may well depend on the situation.
- Nakachi
@Derrick: I totally get where you're coming from on the hanging out with someone feeling like a chore. I have a couple of friends like that...nice people, and can be interesting to interact with online, but in person...it's hell. I can only tolerate like very short bursts of them before being with them turns into a chore. And by short bursts, I mean about 10-15 minutes. Tops. Normally I'd think perhaps it was me, but we have mutual friends who feel the same way as I do...
- Hookuh Tinypants
OK, ok, glad we're good Nakachi. And you're right Anika, it would be selfish to sit with someone IF you were being two-faced and misleading. I would rather "chew my own toenails" than be that person. But if this person is just someone that could just use an ear and you have no hidden agendas then sitting with them would be what a good human being would do.
- Trish Haley
Alone, but that isn't shocking for me. I sometimes prefer to be alone than with people I like. I sometimes prefer books to people. It's just how I am.
- Katy S
Alone. I wonder if most of the people who would answer the other way are off keeping each other company rather than hanging out on FriendFeed. :)
- Ruchira S. Datta
I'm never alone, the imaginary friends are real, and more fun than annoying people I don't like.
- T-Bone Tsali, FF Cherokee
Alone. But some of my best friends would go the "quantity not quality" diection. Beats the hell out of me.

well I myself sometimes prefer to be alone rather than with someone I hate or I can hardly handle ... but if I'm in the mood I will go out with them but very rarely.
- Viva Vida
If it's only "don't particularly like" then it depends on my mood. Of course, its hard for me to imagine someone I don't particularly like. I'm a social slut and I like just about everyone for the unique qualities that everyone has.
- Zach Landes
I'd rather be alone vs. hanging out with someone I don't like.
- Herb Hernandez
Alone so I could find new friends to hang with
- Susan Beebe
sometimes i rather be alone than hangout with the people i love, so no
- Peter Efland
With someone I don't like, like that particular person visiting me each 2-3 days that is really non-techie and gets on my nerves by bragging on anything. Since I still don't have the internet at home, it pisses me off to have debates on who's right (the old 'what's the meaning of X?' with no Google's define:X available...). With that in mind, I prefer to have someone to hang out with, in the worst of cases, at least to make him/her learn about new things, else it's a dead end, buddy, I'm leaving.

yeah cause its easier to go back and check your links in delicious if you want to keep it if it's not just another lolcat pic.. things move too fast to go back in here
- Terry O'Fee
I still do because I find them a bit easier to find later. Plus they get pushed here, twitter and, after a few build up, to my blog as a link post.
- Scott Kingery
It's easier following up on a link in del though.
- ◄ani625Ξ ಠ_ಠ
Bookmarklets rule and FF has nicest one so far.
- Rodfather
I wrote a delicious clone and integrated it with my blogging software.
- Wirehead
I use Delicious all the time. Like the fact I can take my bookmarks anywhere that has a internet connection. Use FriendFeed to share funny pictures.
- Hector Ramon
I think the only person I ever shared links with on delicious was myself. In the future. On another computer. The firefox plugin is great -- and I wish Chrome had something like it so the links would more easily go cross-browser in near-realtime.
- lilbyrdie
is there a bookmarklet for delicious? I used to use the plugin for Firefox, but now I'm on Camino and I never looked for a new one.
- Veronica
@Veronica - see here for the bookmarklet: http://delicious.com/help... - I tend to use Google Bookmarks for the stuff I use day-to-day and delicious for all the things I think "that might be useful in the future"
- Andy Davies
I use delicious to feed into friendfeed

I use Delicious for myself, FF to share with others. :)
- mikepk
All of this talk of feeding on delicious friends is making me hungry!
- Paul Reynolds
I use del.icio.us more, with friendfeed. Now they route to Twitter near realtime; before, they were homebodies.
- Denise Howell
I don't share links. I keep them all to myself. Screw you guys. OK, maybe Twitter.
- Mike Nayyar
I never used Delicious to share links. It's a tool for saving links for yourself primarily IMO. Delicious has been so valuable to me personally because of that. I think ur doin' it wrong.
