"As an individual, it kind of gives me the heebee jeebees to give Google more data, but I'll probably use it anyway. As an administrator who supports systems and users on various networks and often finds myself not sure what DNS server to use on a network, I'll definitely use it all the time. Until now I've loved OpenDNS, but I always forget the ip and have to look it up - 8.8.8.8 on the other hand is a lot easier to remember. It also occasionally frustrates me when OpenDNS resolves an invalid domain name, so that's another plus. (I know you can configure OpenDNS, but its another step I don't have to worry about)"

"This guy is doing some benchmarks and provides a simple shell script to test the speed compared to other dns servers: http://www.manu-j.com/blog...... Seems as though it's probably much faster than other public services like OpenDNS when outside the US, but in the US it's about the same speed or slightly slower."
