Two ways to download software updates in Snow Leopard | Utilities | Mac OS X Hints | Macworld - http://www.macworld.com/article...
if you have multiple Macs in your home, for instance, this can be a real timesaver. The obvious choice is a new entry in the Update menu in Software Update: Go to Apple Downloads Page. On the Apple Downloads page, you’ll find—in theory—every software update that Apple releases, each of which can be downloaded and saved on your Mac. Downloading a number of updates one by one can be a bit of a chore, though. The other alternative is to use the softwareupdate program in Terminal, which still has a download option available in 10.6. In Terminal, type softwareupdate -d (then press Return) to launch the softwareupdate tool in download mode. Unlike using your browser, this command will download all available updates at once, and will do so without requiring your admin password. Let the program run, and when it’s done (the Terminal’s command prompt will return), you’ll find the downloaded updates in the top-level Library -> Updates folder. - Tom de Grunwald

Music - News - Artists 'support bandwidth throttling' - Digital Spy - http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/music...
"Our meeting also voted overwhelmingly to support a three-strike sanction on those who persistently download illegal files, sanctions to consist of a warning letter, a stronger warning letter and a final sanction of the restriction of the infringer's bandwidth to a level which would render file-sharing of media files impractical while leaving basic email and web access functional." - Tom de Grunwald

Television Review - 'Somebody Told Me About ... Carla Bruni' - On the Sundance Channel, Having Everything, Including the President of France - NYTimes.com - http://www.nytimes.com/2009...
"Call it a hottieography" " Unfortunately, this one-note approach doesn’t do justice to Mrs. Sarkozy’s life, which must be fascinating to live but begins to lose its interest on screen well before the end of the 80-minute film. As compensation, we get glimpses of her family’s palatial homes in the Côte d’Azur and Italy — that one’s actually a castle — and her current digs at the Élysée Palace in Paris. To Mrs. Sarkozy’s credit, she acknowledges the privileges — the physical gifts and the family fortune, amassed by her father and grandfather in the tire business — that have made her charmed life possible. “Yes, of course I feel guilty about that,” she says. “But you know, my guilt brings me to a point where I try to be good enough for my life.” " - Tom de Grunwald

Race to Be an Early Adopter Goes Mainstream, a Forrester Survey Finds - NYTimes.com - http://www.nytimes.com/2009...
For decades, the adoption and use of the latest technologies was limited to a subculture: Whether called “tech enthusiasts” or “gadget geeks,” the implication was that most of the world got along fine with older, established products and services, while a smaller group pursued the most leading-edge technology. But according to a study released Wednesday by Forrester Research, a marketing firm based in Cambridge, Mass., a shift has taken place. What used to be the pursuit of a few has become decidedly mainstream. We’re all gadget geeks now. According to the study, which surveyed 53,668 households in the United States and Canada by mail, half of all American adults are gamers. Sixty-three percent of American households have a broadband Internet connection. Three-quarters of American households have cellphones and PCs. And nearly 10 million American households, out of nearly 118 million, added an HDTV in the last year, a jump of 27 percent over 2007. - Tom de Grunwald
