Hey Shawn, Just saw this thread and always open to feedback - what do you think we can do to improve Mashable in your eyes? Thanks in advance, Pete - mashable
WoW....Mashable!....errrrr....heyyyyy....ummmm....never met anyone famous before, Hiiii....no no J/K So you’re serious in asking your question? So to your point, you’re HOT right now, but YES, lacking in really key areas, but nonetheless you’re raking in the money. - sofarsoShawn
To your question specifically, as @Mashable’s grown you’ve aggrandized & annexed territory over reaching beyond sufficient networks and to answer you question appropriately if you serious and in asking what you can do to improve in my own eyes, we gotta do this in a manner more appropriate than a FF thread. So i Ieft you my info at mashable.com, lemme know, I am severly curious and interested to see now what you think, and yea my apologies as to what I said. Im seriously surprised you care. - sofarsoShawn
always interested in making mashable better! you've got my details I think if you wanna mail thoughts over - saw your mail come in earlier - mashable
Yeah you already mentioned as much, but read above again. Mashable better in what terms? In what areas? With what criteria? And how would you be measuring: both qualitatively/quantifably? Through my eyes is far to{ ambigously metaphorical (pretty colours vs how things are understood and through what POV etc etc) otherwise I'm just pissing against the wind. Facebook Cited In A Third of UK Divorce Cases | "A third of divorce petitions filed in the UK this year contained the word ‘Facebook’, according to a survey from Divorce-Online."
Yikes, maybe I should tone down my profanity? Ummmm, nope. I'm never getting married. Article goes on: "The survey is a follow-up to a similar study in 2009, which found 20 per cent of petitions cited the social networking website. The company discovered the most common reasons where Facebook was named in evidence included: Inappropriate messages to members of the opposite sex Separated couples posting nasty comments about each other Facebook friends reporting spouse’s behaviour. Twitter, meanwhile, only featured in 20 of the 5,000 petitions examined by the website. Divorce-Online spokesman Mark Keenan said: “Social networking has become the primary tool for communication and is taking over from text and e-mail in my opinion. “If someone wants to have an affair or flirt with the opposite sex then the easiest place to do it. “Also the use of Facebook to make comments about ex partners to friends has become extremely common with both sides using Facebook to vent their grievances against each other." - sofarsoShawn from Bookmarklet

"Pirate Wi-Fi" On NYC's Subway Not Just For Hooking Up With Hot Strangers
"There's a secret mobile network being tested on New York City subway cars this week that could pave the way for far more than anonymous hot straphanger hookups. It's happening on certain cars on the L Train, the favored line of models, style aficionados, musicians, artists, and others zipping between some of the city's hippest neighborhoods (and other stops not cool enough to get into in this context). "The L Train Notwork" doesn't actually connect them to the World Wide Web, but it seems that way at first. Instead, users are linked to fellow riders in a chat room, plus webby-looking visual and literary content curated by the digital agency WeMakeCoolSh.it. Maybe one day soon, they'll get exposed to an ad or two, too." - Shevonne from Bookmarklet

Republic Wireless: Hybrid phone network offers Wi-Fi calls
"Smartphones let you do almost everything over Wi-Fi, so why do we still have to use up cellular minutes when making a call? That's the thinking behind Republic Wireless, a new hybrid phone network that lets you seamlessly make calls using any available Wi-Fi hotspot, falling back to the regular cellular network when you move out of Wi-Fi range." - Shevonne from Bookmarklet
because operators have virtually excluded any single phone which makes it out of box. this one (probably) will go down same pipes. Just in case you have not understood - yes, they DO exclude particular models, and it is legal thanks to American habit to allow legal entities to lobby. It is all about squeezing money out of you. - непростые коротышки
Hmm... Skype? Google voice? Can't they add a feature to take the call to their IP-based network when connected via wifi? Now you have to choose to do it manually as you dial a number. - 9000

"Facebook's new Timeline, currently in a limited developer release but set to be unveiled to its hundreds of millions of users any day now, is going to shake up the social networking landscape. It's going to bring lifestreaming - formally a geeky activity based around RSS feeds - to the mainstream. In my view, Timeline is the smartest and most significant thing Facebook has done since launching a developer platform in May 2007. I think it's that important. So where did the inspiration for Timeline come from and why is it going to be such a big deal? We can see the future just by looking at two earlier lifestreaming products: FriendFeed and scrappy start Memolane. Steve Jobs once famously said, quoting Picasso, that "good artists copy, great artists steal." Sure enough, as with most game-changing things on the Web, Timeline is not an original invention by Facebook. Although Timeline wasn't directly stolen from anyone, it was clearly influenced by FriendFeed and Memolane. - sofarsoShawn from Bookmarklet
"One of the strongest inspirations for Timeline came from within Facebook itself, in the form of a startup it acquired in August 2009: FriendFeed. Co-founded by Bret Taylor, who is now Facebook's Chief Technology Officer, FriendFeed was a social media aggregator that was much beloved by Web geeks. FriendFeed was always far too geeky for mainstream users, however to his great credit... more... - sofarsoShawn

what I can't stand is the Social Media over load, it's supposed to be "life streaming" but none of 'em really offer that sort of service, so I post content my content to fit the service when it should be the other way around, the service should be adequate enough to express my content. So if you combined my Twitter, Facebook, tumblr. and G+ into one, then you'd get a fuller picture or... more... - sofarsoShawn

Why Are So Many Tech Titans Ignoring Google Plus? - Forbes ~ cuz it's, in all honesty, kinda boring
"Congratulations, Larry Page. You are officially the most popular person on Google Plus, the social network your company launched four months. As accomplishments go, that’s a little like winning the limbo contest at your own bar mitzvah. But there’s a bigger problem: It seems you might only be winning because no one else in your peer group is playing the game. To get to No. 1, you had to edge out Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, who, in a nice irony, sprinted out to an early lead in the G+ popularity derby. Now you’ve surpassed him, with 601,000 or so followers to his 599,000 or so. But Zuckerberg is operating under a considerable handicap: His profile is totally private. No one he hasn’t “circled” sees anything he does. You, on the other hand, share all kinds of stuff. That sparked my curiosity. Sure, you’re an interesting fellow and all, but you’re hardly the biggest personality on the tech scene. How is it you’re beating, say, Ashton Kutcher, the only Silicon Valley money man with... more... - sofarsoShawn from Bookmarklet
And Kutcher is no outlier. Of the name-brand tech founders and investors I (unscientifically) surveyed, only a couple have updated their public G+ profiles in the past few weeks. Some haven’t done so in months. This even though many of them, including Foursquare founder Dennis Crowley, Union Square Ventures principal Fred Wilson and TechCrunch founder Michael Arrington, are avid... more... - sofarsoShawn

iPhone 4S vs. the smartphone elite: Galaxy S II, Bionic and Titan -- Engadget ~ WANT
Now that we know how the iPhone 4S stacks up against the iPhone 4, let's take a look at how Apple's latest smartphone compares to its mightiest competitors on the other major platforms -- Android and Windows Phone. In Google's camp we chose the superlative Samsung Galaxy S II models (focusing on the announced US variants) along with the Motorola Droid Bionic for its qHD and LTE chops. We then picked the upcoming HTC Titan to bat for Microsoft's team. RIM's not included here since it's still stuck in the junior leagues. We left out the intriguing Nokia N9 because it's a niche player. Check out the fancy table after the break -- the results are pretty clear cut! - sofarsoShawn from Bookmarklet

Spec charts like this never tell you what the experience of using a product is like. Or if the UI is consistent and features are simple and well-integrated. Or if it feels solid in your hand after a year of use. Or if you can easily and fully use it without relying heavily on connectivity to a cloud-based account. - Tinfoil 2.0
You're no fun, LogEx :( - Eivind
Master chef here: Step 1) Take some gingerbread overrun with bugs, Step 2) This one's really important for the outcome so take note. Add a whole lotta whollop of an over reliance on cloud base networking then 3) Mix this all together in an a third party knock off manufactured South Korea and voilà. You're the proud owner of some stupefying leftovers. Bon appétit! Ie the Galaxy S II - sofarsoShawn
