Noah, it's an image bookmarking service. The only way to get in on it is to be invited and each person gets one invite to pass on.

Is the chain still going? Because I would love to join the chain...

Windows 7 is really rocking! All the good stuff from Vista (yes, there was some), all the stability of XP, plus more. Best Windows yet, IMO.

windows 7 rc1 is like mac for your pc

I simply mean I have too many to keep track of, some don't post anymore, I need to organize my rooms, etc. Not that anybody isn't a "friend" ... didn't want that to sound bad. :)

Although I'm not a database guy, I like SQL Server.
- Alan Le
I hate SQL but I used to use MySQL because it was easy but then I migrated to Postgresql (probably just to be different). However, now I try to avoid database work whenever I can.
- Akiva Moskovitz
I want to say Access just to be contrary ;-) Dunno, I've dealt with Oracle, MSSQL and MySQL more than Postgre SQL. Of those three, I prefer the interface MSSQL offers, MySQL for size and speed, and Oracle for sheer unadulterated power.
- FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
For what purpose? For corporate work like data warehousing I want Oracle. For anything smaller it would be MySql.
- Rob Diana
I really like Oracle, but it's overkill for most stuff. I have a special place in my heart for PostgreSQL, but my workhorse RDBMS is MySQL.
- Mark Trapp
MS SQL is my default. MySQL when I'm going for free or w/ PHP. Oracle if I need a huge cluster and several terabytes, though MSSQL is catching up on that. Access or SQLExpress if I only have one user.
- xero
Do you vote for a specific DB because it's the only one you know, or because you experienced a few and decided this is the best one for you?
- Amit Morson
MySQL & PostgreSQL for web & other critical apps. SQLite for others. It depends of what I need to achieve..

it's interesting how the preview of the pics cut biden out.. kinda mirroring the media - how often do you see stories about biden? it's always mccain and palin vs obama.
- alphaxion
alphaxion: Take that up with the FriendFeed team. I just uploaded them in order. Not my fault it only displays three thumbnails. ;)
- Mona Nomura
The Palin one is particularly apt. Behind that face is a hollow pumpkin.
- Kamath (नमः)
I was a little freaked at Palin's RED eyes. They're not just red, they're RED! Aaaaah!
- Ladybug Heather
Palin makes the better Jack-o-lantern cuz she's freekin' scary!!
- Bonita Garrabrant
Indeed. The truth stretching looks fairly even. This whole debate was a re-hash of the last one.
- Mark "Rizzn" Hopkins
Thank you! You're only the third person who say that, Mark. Not sure how I feel about that. :\
- Mona Nomura
Well, I'm going to step away from my usual spot where I defend the r's from ad hominem attack and say that tonight's debate demonstrated everything that's wrong with the modern presidential campaign process. Here we have two (IMO) mediocre candidates from two mediocre parties staging a mediocre joint press conference. Our process is so stagnated it isn't funny. I'll be honest here, too. This is the first year I've ever held my nose and voted for a Republican for president. I almost always vote third ...
- Mark "Rizzn" Hopkins
... party because I'm of the firm opinion you should vote your conscious, and not who you think is most likely to win. Unfortunately, Ron Paul destroyed all the confidence I had in the LP this year, and I've never been a huge fan of Bob Barr. Of the candidates that are left, I'm most closely aligned with McCain (but that's even a stretch). Despite that fact, I still can't close my eyes to the fact that what was on TV tonight was a scripted and rehearsed event that was so obviously not a debate that I was ..
- Mark "Rizzn" Hopkins
.. reminded of exactly why I can't stand almost everything from the R's and the D's.
- Mark "Rizzn" Hopkins
Mark? I couldn't agree with you more. I keep repeating this, but it's not about Republican or Democrat, left or right, who's right, who's wrong, but the issues at hand. It's up to us to keep an open mind, stay up on the issues and be involved long after the election. It's time we (as a nation) THINK.
- Mona Nomura
I'm actually liking your comment, Mona.
- Pico Seno
@Mona - obviously thinking more is a good thing to be sure - but elections will really always be about a gut feeling of trust and a gut judgment of character. A politician can SAY anything they want, but if you don;t feel you can trust them it doesn't mean a damn thing. Sometimes that gut feeling is right, sometimes it's wrong... but it will always be deeply influential.
- Soulhuntre
How can you tell when a politician is lying? His lips are moving.
- Morton Fox
This is why voting records are the most important thing to look at when deciding who to vote for. Yeas and Nays are harder to spin and written in the public record.
- Robert Hafer
In other news: Clay Aiken is gay, and the sun will rise tomorrow.
- tj hanton
Robert: So what happens if you're lied to by your own government? And you end up voting for or against something under false pretenses? That stays on record for the rest of a politician's career.
- Mona Nomura
It says somthing about society. We prefer being lied to, even if we have to make serious decisions. Does this play into our perferance for optimistic rather than pessimistic statements?
- Roberto Bonini
This plays into not taking everything at face value. Things are not always what they seem.
- Mona Nomura
maybe McCain/Palin aren't meant for mainstream ...
- tj hanton
I mean, even their campaign is going negative.
- Victor Ganata
Check this 2007 Arizona Republic story about McCain and the Keating scandal. http://www.azcentral.com/news... Not a whitewash in my opinion, but it does lay out the complete story, pros and cons.
- Ontario Emperor
Maybe a bit of SNL to go with your Colbert report?
- Lorraine Ball
Interesting considering Palin just finished scolding Biden for talking about McCain's past ...
- tj hanton
I'm ready for the expose of Obama in the sixties - Obama stayed up late and watched the Monkees past his bedtime!
- Ontario Emperor
Wish they would talk about the 'close' relationship Obama & Ayers had as board members for the Chicago anti-poverty group. What's McCain going to say next, that this group was a terrorist cell? Absolute non-sense.
- Jim McCusker
Thanks all. It was nice, as Chez Panisse always is. Enjoyed a great pinot noir from Willamette Valley, Hamacher. We had 2005 and 2006; 2005 was better.

Thx Zach, Mona, Jeremy. I love when we can get there. My top 3 restaurants in the Bay Area? Chez Panisse, French Laundry, Gary Danko. Any others?
- Hutch Carpenter
Happy anniversary, and yowza. That promises to be an amazing meal.
- Ayşe E.
Echoing @ayse. Tell us all about the dinner next week.
- Michelle Jones
Mine: Ritz Dining Room. NOT because it's Ritz, but for Chef Ron Siegel. I have been a huge fan of his for years, and the tasting menu never disappoints. Numbers two and three are dependent on the genre. In general, most Bay Arean restaurants are average, above average - at best. (Even One Market, Gary Danko, Chez Panisse and French Laundry <-- Keller is never there)
- Mona Nomura
Good tip Mona - haven't heard about Ron Siegel. Will have to add him to the list of those to try.
- Hutch Carpenter
If you need recommendations, I have a whole bunch. But be warned, I am VERY picky LOL.
- Mona Nomura
Oola is great; their foie gras is some of the best I've ever had. When you can't get that French Laundry reservation, Bouchon is quite good as well. Speaking of which, does anybody have a trick to getting a French Laundry reservation?
- Jeremy Brooks
Per Se > Ad Hoc > French Laundry. French Laundry is currently WAY overrated and their reservation system is now Open Table...
- Mona Nomura
*giggle* you said "Panisse" *giggle* Oh, and happy anniversary
- tj hanton
Thx Helen, Jeremy, Eric. Jeremy - we've been to French Laundry twice. Both times were for lunch. Neither time did we have a reservation - we popped in and asked about availability when we were up in wine country.
- Hutch Carpenter
Hm, interesting. The last time I went to FL, I had to make a reservation 6 weeks in advance. And we almost went somewhere else, because my mom initially balked at the menu. This was about 9 years ago, granted.

Boulevard and Jardiniere are high up on my list. BTW - if you're in Oakland for lunch, try Bake Sale Betty's ... ex Panisse folks - the fried chicken sandwich is delicious. I know it sounds ... greasy but it's not at all. Also dessert delight.

Thx tj, Parth. Jeremy - Aqua is another I hear a lot.

I believe you're looking for Cydia and/or Installer sources. All apps are listed in Cydia or Installer ... but the more sources you have, the more apps you have to choose from. However, only put sources of developers/distributors you think you can trust! Search the forums on modmyifone.com for sources ... lots of them there, and they'll tell you if they're bogus.

Firefly...a sci-fi show where you actually don't hear anything in space...what a concept! Let's make a sci-fi show MORE real, instead of less! Joss Whedon, you are a frickin' genius and a true auteur.
Best canceled show ever. "You can't take the sky from me!"
- Josh Haley
The real genius of Firefly is that (for the most part, anyway), they never forgot that the show wasn't about the tech and are about the people. Mal never needed to reverse the neutron flow because it turns out that neutron flows don't make good stories.
- James (@willia4)
Yeah Firefly was awesome. Don't understand the rationale for cancelling awesome.
- Mo Kargas
The first time I watched Firefly and saw that there were no sounds in space, I was utterly hooked. Brilliant show. I have memorized most of the episodes from watching them so many times.
- Joey Gibson
What do you mean there's no sound in space? :-D
-
Anime Law of Physics #3: In space, loud sounds, like explosions, are even louder because there is no air to get in the way.
- xero
Actually this was my biggest disappointment when BSG came on the air. I still cringe a little at the sound FX in the space battles there.
- Eric P
And come to think of it, I remember one of the commentary tracks for one of the Star Treks, they were talking about this. They said they *knew* there was no sound in space - but it was boring as hell without the sound effects. if you think about the original series, that kind of makes sense - it would be hard to build tension otherwise with just a model enterprise hanging there.
- Eric P
You can make up for the lack of sound effects in a space movie by overlaying a musical score that paces well and sometimes seems like sound effects.
- xero
Joss Whedon figured out the drama bit when shooting with quiet space. Cutting in and out fairly quickly between interiors where you would hear something and space shots where you wouldn't.

Dave: hah! Mona: hmm, I have no idea if some of my stuff has disappeared over time.
- Robert Scoble
Does not compute, Dave! And the STARTonomics one disappeared, too! :\ Robert: This was from last night...
- Mona Nomura
maybe part of FF attempt to collect/aggregate similar items, perhaps?!?
- dave mcclure
Mona I see one of your STARTonomics post to the Social Media room here http://friendfeed.com/e... I remember you had a comment, which I don't see here, so you must have posted it twice...the 2nd one appears to be indeed missing
- Susan Beebe
when script writing ideas are being posted to the rocketboom room, we have noticed items vanishing.. then reappearing 4 hours later. I mentioned this in a post a day or so ago... no-one else reported the same problem then, seems it's spreading.
- alphaxion
It's ok, it happens. :) I'm just causing a stink because it's not everyday I get geek points awarded like that. NOT that I'm keeping track or anything... HA
- Mona Nomura
I see you, Mona... trying to hide your post it where you are keeping tally.
- Yolanda
we're actually having to cache our links and article ideas into a txt file just in case they go walkies right now... haven't raised it as a problem just yet - wasn't sure if it was room related or system wide. It appears to be system wide :S Oh, and your points will be refunded in about 4 hours time, so don't worry :)
- alphaxion
Mona - Reshare this to the FriendFeed Feedback room so the FF team can address it for us
- Susan Beebe
Anthony: Not at all. FriendFeed has been nothing but great. I whined for my own selfish purposes and turned it into a bigger deal than it is. Like alphaxion said, it shoud reappear in a few. :) I'm not concerned! @Susan: I did a search in the FF feedback room and someone posted something similar. I'm sure they're working on it! Thanks for the input, everyone!
- Mona Nomura
I wonder if it's something to do with the related feature
- alphaxion
"Mona OverFlow" may be the best description. I am testing a small app that uses Yahoo Pipes and AppEngine and right now the only feed I've had a problem with is Mona's. After processing it's almost 2MB! Scoble's only reaches 300K :)
- Andrés David Aparicio
Not only do you keep your points, but in sympathy, let's double them to 20. :-)
- Dave Winer
Do I want to know what is going on here: "Dave: hah! Mona: hmm". ;-)
- Kol Tregaskes
BTW, who is counting up the points? :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
But Dave - Sympathy points are not Geek points! I will just have to regain them! :)
- Mona Nomura
Mona: I think you get the geek points back just for distinguishing the two categories.
- Aaron Hood
it may be in a result of application changes, e.g. logic that drives the "related" post algorithm...not sure. In any case, I need to be able to find stuff i bookmark here.
- Susan Beebe
I'm sure it's a UI flaw and the data is still intact. I have faith in them. :)
- Mona Nomura
Good point about sympathy points not being geek points. But you get to keep the 10 you got -- they exist completely independent of the FriendFeed database.
- Dave Winer
Dave - I'm tempted to put 10 Dave Winer points on a piece of flair. And put it right next to my Red Swingline! YAY!
- Mona Nomura
Just like being an ignorant bitch? (sorry poli-geoff is out of his cage already its too late the damage is done)
- Geoff Schultz
Just the thing she was trying to work against. :p
- Helen Sventitsky
Keep sticking your foot in your mouth, you white trash ho. Are you working for the Democrats. LOL No education or common sense. Shining example of a Republican candidate. And like them, she has a gay friend. Oh, that is another SNL skit waiting to happen.
- Stephan Miller
she will mess up sooo many times if she ends up in the white house...
- Zee.
Being uninformed on your government is a choice
- Alex Scoble
Liked so that people see this, not necessarily because I agree with her...
- Jared Smith
Her "Best Friend" of 30 years, I guess one can't toss boulders in the glass house.
- Jacob
Oh, but if you point that out, you're not being fair! :p
- Helen Sventitsky
Same here Jared. My comments would only be filled with curses, so I'm refraining.
- Carmen
What I want to know is who is her lesbian friend? And why would a lesbian be best friends with someone like Palin? I find that very interesting and wonder if it is true at all. I've had people tell me this before and then when I push them on it they can't name their "best friend." Also, if I had a best friend and I was running for Vice President that person would be with me every stage of the way. Just saying.
- Robert Scoble
Yeah, because it's so easy and fun being gay in America. Why not choose to be gay!?!
- AJ Kohn
When we look beyond the cheap tinsel we are most likely to find, tinsel
- Dave Martin
Would you rather she didn't share her beliefs? I personally wish more candidates would state their true (non party speak) beliefs - then each person can make an informed decision in the booth. BTW, amazing how many of you can't articulate your opinions without resorting to name callling. Talk about unprofessional.
- Dan Nimtz

Dan... cause you can't fight an illogical argument with logic...
- Johnny Worthington
DEATH TO INTOLERANCE!! Kill it where it stands. Slash it's violent throat and stab it's unloving heart.
- Dawn
@Dan: Calling this woman an idiot is not an opinion, it's a statement of fact.
- Eric P
I totally respect Sarah Palin for making the choice of being blatantly stupid. It's not a choice that I have made, but I am not gonna judge her.
- Andre
Of course im unprofessional Dan I don't get a pay check for this shit.
- Geoff Schultz
She CAN'T know how stupid she looks or she would have had a mental breakdown by now.
- Stephan Miller
@Eric Yeah, ok you're the expert. I was more pointing out "white trash...", etc. Serves no useful purpose IMO
- Dan Nimtz
from twhirl
Owing to how free she is with her opinions, I am forced to wonder how many other people share her views.
- J. Abdul-Qahhar
I live around white trash and know it when I see it. I fought to get away from people like her. Just the fact she is running for office is appalling. Anyone see Idiocracy. This is the beginning, mark my word. And sometimes it takes an expletive. I don't say "Oh,poop" when I slam my finger in the door. If she gets to the white house, this will hurt more than a broken finger.
- Stephan Miller
that someone like Palin could be VP and possibly president is very very scary
- Ryan
Based on her communicated belief system thus far, I just don't see Palin with a best friend who is gay, nor do I understand (like Robert) why anyone who is gay would consider her a best friend. I think its a "make believe" friend.
- jcunwired
I've just scanned this, so I may have missed the details. Is the main bullet point from this thread that Sarah Palin is a gay moose who's best friends with Scoble? That doesn't seem correct.
- Chris Nixon
There's a column on a gay conservative site about this too (I can't remember which, I saw it briefly this morning while horking down cereal). She really does have a long-time lesbian friend apparently. One assumes they must never discuss gay identity issues.
- Soup
Therefore, wouldn't heterosexuality be a choice too? Life's about choices ... wait ... isn't she Pro-life? She CAN'T be pro-choice too ... time-space continuum collapsing ...
- tj hanton
Not a fan of Pitchfork either but I LOVE 90's and Emma's album picks for the share. ;)
- Mona Nomura
Too much Radiohead and NO CRANBERRIES! I expect the former, but the later it simply unforgivable. Bah... Pitchfork... bah... (yes, I agree Emma's pic choices were choice) Also notable and inexplicably missing: U2's Achtung Baby, Alanis Morissette's Jagged Little Pill, Counting Crows' August and Everything After, Peter Gabriel's Secret World Live, Fiona Apple's When the Pawn (or Tidal), or any Dave Matthews Band (who for many defined the 90s). I'll stop now ;)
- Michael W. May
LOL...I did say there were notable exceptions! ;p

Oh yeah Melissa. The shampoo head massage. ahhhhh
- Carmen
Carmen - I just want a separate service for that. Combination head massage and shampooing cuz that water feels gooooood.
- Melissa
The cutting is meh, but I agree that the wash and rinse should last an hour.
- FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
I heart the shampoo and massage. That and a nice glass of something. The haircut is just me catching up with my stylist. :-)
- Mathew A. Koeneker
I'm another one who believes the shampoo could be a lot longer. The guys where I go are just... guh. The stylist is a longtime friend of mine, too, so the haircuts always take longer than they should and are always fun, but... yes. More shampoo time, please.
- Nine
I go to a place called modern male that caters to male clients; a head and shoulder massage plus a straight edge shave is part of the haircut
- RAPatton
Hah, not me. I find getting my hair cut to be an irritating experience regardless of how sensual the woman is. I usually can't wait until I get out of there and I generally hate any conversation that happens in the chair. I have a stylist now whom I actually like and will talk to (she's a vegetarian from New Orleans so we share a love for food) so it's not as bad as it was before. But, no, it's not sensual for me; it's discomforting at best.
- Akiva Moskovitz
I can honestly say I've never had my hair cut by a beautiful woman. They've all been either aging, Asian women (PAST their prime) or old, Black guys. Not sure why, but that seems to be the demographics for Barbers throughout my life.
- tj hanton
You can say that again RAP. I have a HUGE crush on my tonsorial artist.
