tempus on In an attempt to honor retired NBA great Michael Jordan, the Cleveland Cavs' star Lebron James is campaigning to retire the number 23 from the entire NBA, and wants to start by changing his own jersey number. - http://www.reddit.com/r...
"not a big fan of this idea. Jordan was a really great player, but every generation has its great player/s, and singling out Jordan does an injustice to other greats."

"When I was 9 or 10 we were playing in a friend's basement, and his older brother showed us how he could soak his hand in gasoline and light it without burning himself. We were in awe. Somehow this led to us soaking a tennis ball in the gasoline and setting it on fire, then playing a crazy game of kickball that ended when the ball got kicked into the toy chest, setting it on fire. His parents were pissed, as were mine when they told them about it. We're lucky we didn't burn the house down."

"My Golden Retriever Soolin was crate trained when she was a puppy. By the time she got to be a couple of months old we had settled into a routine where she would go in the crate at night, then she would wake up in the morning when the alarm went off and I would let her out of her crate. She'd hop on the bed and we'd spend a little time bonding before I got up and got ready for work. One morning she woke up well before the alarm and was very antsy. I thought she just had to go out, so I got up to let her out of the crate but instead of heading for the door she hopped up on the bed. I climbed back under the covers. She jumped into my arms and almost instantly exploded with nasty nasty diarrhea. It got everywhere - my chest, into my lap, it soaked my down comforter, and in an effort to save the bed mattress by tearing off all the bedding, it got all over the house. It was one of the most foul experiences I've ever had. I wrote it up on my blog when it happened as 'the worstest dog story..."

Graphic adventures have made something of a comeback over the last couple of years, thanks in no small part to the success of the wonderfully funny episodic Sam and Max games, but they’re still very much a niche game genre. This wasn’t always the case – back in the 80’s graphic adventures were one of [...]

I really enjoyed Modern Combat – I played through and enjoyed the single player campaign, and I played a ton of multiplayer when it came out. I also enjoyed World at War, its sequel, and still occasionally play it online. I won’t be buying the sequel. This fantastic chart over on Destructoid sums up why: this [...]

"This site: http://pine.fm/LearnToProgram/ is for this book: http://www.pragprog.com/titles... and is a pretty great introductory 'learn to program' book. The website contains the original tutorial that led to the book. The language it uses to teach is Ruby but the principles are broadly applicable. You can run through the tutorials on his site in a day or so. http://openbookproject.net/... Uses python instead, is free online, comprehensive, and written by an educator. There's also a community site for that ebook with tons of additional material here: http://www.openbookproject.net/pybibli... Both are great ways to dip your toe in the water and get a feel for how coding works without spending any money."

There are multiple solutions to this scattered across the web, and there are probably better places than this to find out how to do it, but since I just went through finding out how to make this work and had to multiple google to find all the pieces of the answers I needed, I figured [...]

<p>I’m testing embedding a google wave into a wordpress post using the wavr plugin. The plugin dialog seems busted but hopefully the syntax still functions. If you don’t have a google wave account yet you probably won’t be able to see/interact with this.</p>

tempus on I still like to push the shopping cart and then jump up and "ride" it. I'm in my mid 20's. What childhood related activities do you still enjoy? - http://www.reddit.com/r...
"42, and when no one is looking I still go up staircases 4-5 stairs at a time. Sometimes I get a running start to take as many as I can in one leap, 6 is the best I can do these days. Makes me feel like a kid and that I haven't aged too much yet. (except that I can't take stairs down 4-5 at a time like I used to, hurts my knees too much ;-("

Susan and I had a great Saturday. We started the day by heading north to Brattleboro, VT, where we stopped for coffee and lunch fixings at the local coop. Then we headed East on route 9 to the Pisgah State Forest in NH, where we went on a ~7 mile hike along the Pisgah Mountain [...]
