There are two reasons I can think of why some people think they can smell when a woman is menstruating. One, they can smell dried/drying blood and pieces of uterus lining, which is quite conceivable (no pun intended), and *may* be due to lack of hygiene from not changing pads/tampons or not bathing often enough **or** it might be unavoidable (heavy flow of blood). Or, they might be smelling a hormonal change, which can alter the natural scent of your body and has nothing to do with hygiene. I know when I have my period that my skin smells different. Check to make sure you can move your shoulders comfortably without feeling constricted by shirts and/or exposing half your torso (unless you want to of course).
