My next door neighbor (#1) came over yesterday. She's having disagreements with my other next door neighbor (#2). Neighbor #2 says that neighbor #1 has problems with everyone in the neighborhood and is confrontational and abusive. Would I sign her petition stating whether I have had problems with her (neighbor #1).
ack! I'd stay well away from any of that.
- Call me Bronco
Until recently, #1 had some relatives living at her house. There were a lot of people coming and going at all hours of the day and night. Now you may remember my previous posts. Once, we had 5 squad cars show up because someone was waving a firearm. A US Marshal came to my house looking for 3 teens that had been reported living next door. 2 squad cars showed up to arrest the 14 and 15 yo for murder in a drive-by shooting of a 16 yo girl.
- Greg Guitarbuster
I would like to stay out of it, but I live here. I have no doubt that my policeman neighbor is giving her lots of extra attention. I don't know if that amounts to harassment. I don't want gang members living next door to me. This isn't like online, I can't just block and ignore. What do other people think?
- Greg Guitarbuster
I would stay out of it. But I would probably anonymously tell the policeman that she came by. It's strange that she came by with a petition and wanted you to state right then and there whether you have a problem with her or not. It's backing you into a corner, which is not a neighborly thing to do.
- Jason Huebel
So this is an hour later. Did you sign or did you just send her on her way?
- Jason Huebel
I think I'd do what Jason suggested. I certainly wouldn't sign any petition. That would put you (and anyone else who signs as well) squarely in the middle of something you really don't need to be involved in. If she really feels that she is being harassed, she needs to take that up with the police department. From what you've described of the situation, it doesn't sound good. Be careful.
- Junebug (aka Sarah Jill)
I told her that I hadn't had any problems with her personally, but that I was concerned about the crime and violence based on what's happened since she moved in.
- Greg Guitarbuster
yes, the crime and violence are issues that affect you and melinda which i think you're helpless to do anything about except to wait - waiting is never easy but i have a feeling that in this case your no good neighbor will find themselves forced to move as i'm quite certain has happened many times, most likely because someone was after them -
- sally stokhamer
i was feeling extremely..uncertain..for the first time in almost 20 years about what i've done with my life. what i've spent so much time and effort (and, far less importantly, money) pursuing and striving to accomplish and investing so much of my self-worth in. i felt like a fake and a sham and a liar and failure and delusional.
- Joe Silence is not dead
the one thing i've had confidence in about myself was pulled out from under me by my own total lack of...i dunno what. it's like i suddenly couldn't talk or form thoughts. like i'd been publicly exposed as a fraud and then struck blind and deaf to contemplate my own deceitfulness.
- Joe Silence is not dead
Joe, I'm having those same thoughts and I have a very short deadline to pull things together. Not that I'm good at taking my own advice, but I'll give it a shot. We need to stop listening to the negative self worth thinking. Your confidence in some area is shaken, but surely you can think of many other accomplishments. Self reflection is a good thing, we need to change, but we need to keep some balance with our self criticism.
- Greg Guitarbuster
Joe, I feel like that often, especially now that I've left my job and given myself a few months to 'take my craft seriously' and focus on it. It's hard to get back into things and when we're juggling one particular dream or passion with hundreds of others (family, love, etc.) and obligations (money, survival, etc.) it can be hard to forget everything else we've accomplished. But we're...

Three days after Sweetwater performed on The Red Skelton Show, singer Nancy Nevins was hurt badly in a car accident, which stopped the progress of the band. Due to the accident, Nancy experienced brain damage for a number of years following the collision, and permanent damage to one of her vocal cords.

there's a lot of suffering behind this story, isn't there?

Apparently so. Their first album was one of my favorites and I wondered what happened to them. Nancy was hit by a drunk driver and was in a coma for weeks. She says that it took 12 years to recover including learning how to sing again.

Sally, I spent some time several years ago tracing my dad's family (the German ancestors). This is a new website that wasn't available then. Once you get past a couple of generations it gets very difficult. They had large families and the German's had a surname, first and middle names and a 'calling' name (like public and family name). To make it even harder, they used the SAME names over and over for generations.

Another branch of the family lived in South Dakota in the 1800s. They had two daughters and one son. The closest neighbors were miles away. They had two sons and one daughter...you guessed it...they each married.

I borrowed the money for an appointment with my GP yesterday. I stopped my anti-depressants several months ago when I couldn't afford them any more. At best, they made me feel mediocre all the time, no highs, no lows. Now I'm giving lexapro a try based on the facts that the doctor recommended it and he had lots of samples.
It was real hell when I first quit, then things were okay for a couple months. For the past couple months, the depression is back as the stress and bills are piling up and I haven't been able to make progress with making things better.
- Greg Guitarbuster
Well, it's a really bad time of year for depression anyway and having financial problems on top of it can't be making things easy. Give yourself some credit. I hope you're able to find an affordable source of Lexapro after the samples run out. If not, make sure you taper off. Cold turkey withdrawal from anti-depressants is miserable.

Greg, for me sometimes it helps to ask others for ideas. They may think of strategies or resources that you can't because you're too close to your own problem. This is one of the reasons I love FF so much.

Spend more time focusing on "to done" lists than "to do" lists. "To do" is overwhelming for you right now and making you shut down. If you chart what you've accomplished (including even little things like doing the dishes...that's an accomplishment when you're depressed), you'll get a sense of achievement and control. It also helps you focus on the positive rather than the negative....

I tried most general search and it worked. Any more specific ones (like "search my friends for ...") takes a minute or so to show Service Unavailable message. Retries sometimes help. Does search attempts warm up caches? And one of the subsequent requests just fit in request timeout? Is that all that bad with hardware resources at FriendFeed? Is that the way service is dying?

Besides writing thousands of poems, di Prima took part in experimental films, radio shows, poetry festivals, panels, and conferences. She wrote plays and kept dozens of elaborate and delicately crafted chapbooks, traveled around the world to poetry festivals, had her work translated into several languages. She currently lives in San Francisco, where she continues writing and publishing, and teaches poetry workshops. Full bio and publication list is available on her website: http://dianediprima.com. THIS BIRD FLIES BACKWARD is the first film exclusively about di Prima. It is a portrait of a highly unique, classically educated, raw, powerful, and visionary literary voice.

It would be nice if I could just add tags to my emails in Outlook, a la Delicious, instead of trying to choose a folder to put them in. Then I could figure out why I decide to keep some emails, and the tags would create instant "folders".
