Actually, as far as I can tell, Like in FB does do something: it's basically an empty comment, so you get notified of new comments that occur after you Like it.
- Mistletoe Glen
@Glen: it's true but what bothers me most is that unlike friendfeed, fb delivers a separate mail for every person that comments on that post. #lame

I wouldn't say it is the best movie in 20 years, but best action-adventure sci-fi since the Matrix and that was a decade ago, so that isn't too shabby.

Yes,3D was a big part of love 4 Avatar. It wasn't old school Blue/Red Eyed Glasses. It was real 3D.Amazing,movie itself was well done also.

yeah, the 3D was great. early on I thought the insects were real and that there was a moth near the screen

Grocery bill. That's not even a question.
- Rochelle
If I got to choose the wine then I'd probably go for that; there are some nice wines I'd like to try but couldn't justify right now. I'd rather pay for normal groceries and know there was a special luxury reward coming at the end of each month.
- Mark H
Only if I spent $500 or more in groceries per month would I like the 50% off. Other wise, I would rather have the $500 bottle of wine and sell it to someone who could afford it at a slight discount.
- Melanie Reed
I'd prefer the discount. Then I could buy a $10 bottle of wine to celebrate. ;-)
- John (a.k.a. dendroica)
50% my grocery bills, especially since I don't drink (and even when I did, I certainly didn't drink wine).
- Curtiss Grymala
50% off my grocery bill would be heaven.
- WorldofHiglet
Definitely 50% of grocery bill. I wouldn't know a $500 bottle of wine from a $50 bottle. But wait - could I sell the wine? Because that would be more than the 50% . . .
- Amy℠
Add me to the 50% pile, I'm in the same boat as Jason and Micah
- Heather Solos
I love my wine but I'm with Anika....cheap wine & 50% off groceries!
- Bonnie Foster
from iPod
50% off. The wine-selling is intriguing, because that would be more than 50% off my grocery bill, but I'm not sure I'd want to go through the hassle of reselling it.
- Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
Have to take the Wine option... Hell wine ages and becomes more valuable over time & u can resell in the future!! :)
- Brady
50% off groceries so I can split the savings between the local food banks and animal shelters.
- vicster is...
I don't drink, so at first it would seem like a no brainer and that 50% off the groceries would be the smart answer, till I realized that I am too frugal for that to amount to as much as the amount I would get by selling the $500 bottle of wine. In order to save $500 on groceries, you need to have a grocery bill of $1000, and mine is around $150 for a family of 3. Even if I were to sell...
- April Russo (app103)
I just wouldn't want the hassle of trying to unload a $500 bottle of wine every month...
- Andrew C
50% of each grocery bill, for sure.
- Jan Ole Peek
50% off. But if you would suggest me the same thing with a $ 50 bottle of beer, I would change my opinion. ;-)

Seems redundant to post at this point but....50% OFF!

Robyn, thanks for participating! Actually, redundancy makes the internet work on several levels. :)

"First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin, then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it."

"Follow! But! follow only if ye be men of valour, for the entrance to this cave is guarded by a creature so foul, so cruel that no man yet has fought with it and lived! Bones of four fifty men lie strewn about its lair. So, brave knights, if you do doubt your courage or your strength, come no further, for death awaits you all with nasty big pointy teeth."

We took some tea and peanuts out with us, but no one had beer (we're on the bike). It happened halfway through our salads and shut them down,so we got no food other than what we took with us. Have moved to Logan's Roadhouse to try dinner again. If it catches on fire I'm going into hiding...

I'm happy to report that Logan's Roadhouse did NOT catch fire once we arrived =D At that point we were mostly full from our illgotten peanuts and rolls but we ordered and ate what we can. I also successfully recruited two new derby dames at the second restaurant. At least something positive came out of the kitchen fire, right?

- Paul Buchheit
Hopefully you bought clippers and did this yourself. I've been doing it for several years now. I think I've spent $80 on two sets of clippers in the last couple years vs. $20-30 every three weeks for a hair cut. Plus you can't beat the drying time. ;)

Ok for those that buzz cut their own hair. How do you trim around the ears and the back of the neck?

Bryan: there are special attachments for the ears, and for the neck, I use a second mirror and a trimmer (smaller, battery powered version of the buzzer).

so no, but i had a pair in 87 my friend grant gave me. wore them to a red hot chilli peppers concert with no shirt, i had a good time dancing. but looking back it was probably wrong. saw a bizarre version few days ago in tokyo, top half was like a nice pleated dress pants. it was very very wrong

There used to be a restaurant in Kansas City called Otto's that had a burger called the Fatboy which was a 1/4lb spiced burger, with three kinds of cheese (including bleu cheese), tomatoes, lettuce, onions, pickles, and a fried egg.

Well, now, that says it all: Big D. Snufffers is added, Mark. ;) If its from Texas, you know its good. "The Dallas Morning News" Ahhh, missed hearing that for a long time.

- Mark Interrante
Whichever one is closest. Because I'm hungry!
- Josh Haley
Mark, I can attest to Beck's Prime (Houston). Holy WOW that is an insanely good burger!

@Ha3rvey - yes - it actually has the top 50 burgers. Their methodology is something to behold - 31 tasters covered 12,343 miles, testing 253 restaurants.

8.0 on Sundance Square in downtown Fort Worth has a pretty damned great burger (or did around 2000-2002). there's also a place in Arlington on the edge of the UTA campus (off Abram a few blocks west of City Hall) called J. R. Bentley's that has a really good burger.
- Joe Silence is not Santa
The Grape? Really? I pass by that place all the time. It's about 3 miles from where we live. I need to check this out.

And Snuffers? That's less than a mile from The Grape. Two places to hit on Greenville Ave. I'm doing this soon.

Is there a prize for eating all 50 on that list? I mean, besides the triple bypass?
- Mistletoe Glen

Hodad's in San Diego (http://www.hodadies.com/) on Ocean Beach isn't bad. There was a soul food place in San Diego too when I was growing up that used to do a big 1/3lb patty and topped it with a couple slices of cheese and a nice split hot link/smoked sausage type thing that was INCREDIBLE. It was only open a couple of years, but that joker certainly was memorable.

Joe Pizza. Rte. 44 Canton CT. Fresh-ground, half-pound, 15 toppings no extra charge. $6.50. No burger I've had anyplace else, even at triple the price compares. Seriously. And their eggplant fries with marinara sauce are to die for.
- Bob Morris (polizeros)
How could I have missed that? Thanks, DS

I think, probably because of the situation, but the best burger I've ever had was at a Friendly's when we were about halfway down to Savannah a couple weeks ago. We got the the $10 combo that includes a drink and a sundae, and everything was SO PERFECT.

My favorite burger of all time is the Ronie Burger at the Miracle of Science Bar and Grill in Cambridge, MA, just north of the MIT campus. It's stuffed with jalapenos and topped with pepper jack cheese. Comes with a side of new potatoes and tomato chutney. When I was a tyke in Utica, NY there was a spot that my dad took me to called Tiny's, which was a bar and grill. He made these burgers with a lot of black pepper and used hot mustard and ketchup to dress it up. I'm sure they were surprised that a tween was eating a burger that didn't resemble McDonald's. Place is long gone and now I only eat burgers that I cook, since I'm GF now. Can't be grabbin buns from anywhere.

This would be a lot more compelling if there were any actual instances of it happening. The headline says "Thieves do this" and the story says "Experts say we are sure thieves must be doing this." Disconnect in concreteness there.
- Dave Slusher
it still doesn't hurt to be a little careful. Not necessarily a good idea to announce one's every move, all the time, as some folks do.
- Ian May

I'm not disputing that it's a good idea to be careful. I'm saying that when you claim X is happening and you have no cases of X, that's not good.
- Dave Slusher
Is announcing you are leaving town on vacation on Twitter riskier than letting the mail spill out of your box or your trash can stay at the curb all week? Certainly not, but that makes a far less sexy headline.

I wonder where these thieves get the address for @funkymonkey, or whatever, while they troll Twitter?

Just love the "balls just shriveled back up" portion.

It's better than Windows 7, if the name is to be believed. ;)
- Tyson Key
You know, I have to give Microsoft a lot of credit. Windows 98 is a flaming pile. It's so thoroughly unstable that I can't believe people loved it so much. Then again, there weren't very many viable alternatives (oh OS2, how I miss you).
- Jason Huebel
Mmm, OS/2. I managed to get that running under QEMU, on a once-only occasion.
- Tyson Key
I should clarify... I give them a lot of credit for having much more stable OS's these days. The best thing they ever did was move to NT.
- Jason Huebel
If the world were a fair place, OS/2 should have been the successor to Windows 3.11.
- Jason Huebel
I don't want to look like a fanboy (oh well, I don't care actually :p) but nothing beats Linux and BSD ;-)

Same here, directeur. I'm not sure why, but no matter what happens, I can never seem to get along with Windows, and I usually always find myself hitting some stupid artificial limitation, or wanting some missing feature. I prefer KDE on Linux over any version...
- Tyson Key
I installed Windows 3.11 on a virtual machine once, it was fun.
- Bryce Roney
Oof. You're hard-core then. I've been known to run aewm on occasion.

I still remember how awful FVWM and TWM were on a prehistoric version of RedHat Linux. They made CDE "usable" for me, when I eventually managed to try Solaris last year.
- Tyson Key
@directeur, I don't currently run Linux as a desktop OS. I have a couple of servers (with GUI's) running Gentoo Linux. I've got a Macbook that's my primary machine (I don't have a desktop PC at all), so Mac OS X is my primary OS. All the Unixy goodness with a nice GUI on top.
- Jason Huebel
I used to enjoy using the "Classic" versions of Mac OS, but I don't particularly like GNOME, as much as it tries to imitate the former in various ways. Probably since I was burnt by a buggy early version of it, along with dire Linux 2.4.x and X11 VGA drivers.
- Tyson Key
Hard-core, I don't know :) But I feel more productive with ratpoison. Idon't need a lot of apps (GUI, that is) so, I have a urxvt open with screen (zsh, vim, mplayer) and firefox, I use gimp and inkscape on occasions, but it's mostly all done in the terminal. I have this ibook G4 and honnestly even if flash doesn't work on a PPC. I won't login into OSX.
- directeur
The cooperative multitasking architecture, and some unusual UI quirks infuriated me otherwise, though. (Blocking non-modal dialogue boxes, random UI hangs whilst waiting on background processes and Extensions, the Bomb dialogue box, and some other stuff that I can't remember at the moment).
- Tyson Key
I still miss certain features like the Control Strip, colour labels for files, and the ability to copy and paste custom icons as file metadata. The Clipping Files feature and the Scrapbook application were useful too, and I've never seen a decent replacement for those on Linux.
- Tyson Key
I personnaly use the shell for everything related to files/streams... (anything that is a text). You'll laugh, but I once coded a GUI app (that's destined for a windows market) on Linux using python. I coded everything, made my tests, and when it was time to deliver an executable/installable I used my bro's PC :)

Honnestly, I won't use "balls" in a post here (I'm too shy, I think) but Jason's sentence made me LOL! :)

Jason, I'm glad you chose to do that. I thought "well that's a bit graphic, but it's so *perfect*" XD I laugh all over again each time I read that.
- Kamilah Gill
Oh, I get being crass for effect. I certainly employ that little tactic. But yeah, I just can't picture you saying it, for one. And two, like I mentioned, I just don't like balls used in that way. Quirk of mine. Some words are pretty, some not. Hee.
- pea
Oh yeah. That's definitely not a pretty word. ;-) And you wouldn't hear me say it IRL (although I'd definitely think it). Just not something I'd say out loud.

sometimes I'll say something like, 'she's got balls' but most of the time I tend to stick with "she's got nerve". depends on how mad I am. :) most of the words I only think and try to not say are cutesy stuff that I picked up from working with kids for so long.
