I like having each service as an individual contact. Much easier. Can we see the same for Pownce?
- Chris Nixon
Well, IMified has taken bot to a next level.. I even created a customized option to check my google calendar appointments for today (a quick schedule for today) by interacting with bot! Not sure, if they have one for Pownce..

One year later. Just bumping this because it's the one year anniversary of the only item on FriendFeed to get more than 400 likes. (452 at the moment)

This looks like me as a teenager coming back from the grocery store with 10 bags of food on each handlebar...or when my parents would send me to pick up 2 family size pizzas an bring them back home to avoid the delivery fee. =D

Trying it out again. They need to enable searches to be pulled into other windows or something. One thing I love about PeopleBrowsr is being able to see everything side by side. If I could have this option with twhirl I would use it more often.

Some good new features. They really have thought about this.

Allready tried it out and I love it! I highly recomend Twirl as your Twitter and Seesmic client

Twhirl is looking good I like the linked comments, tweetdeck layout better though wish Twhirl would have a way of connecting the windows so they all move together like ImgBurn

I couldn't remember why I stopped using thwirl to begin with, and now I remember. It's addicting. With the new features, i fear for the worst.

I haven't got it to work yet :( 32bit Vista. It gets installed but when I try to start it the process starts but nothing "pops up". It runs in the background but it doesn't show. Have tried to uninstall twhirl and air, and the install it again, rebooted the computer several times, but still the same :(
- Qbat
Works fine on my machine, seesmic posting and all. :-)
- Richard A.
How is this conceptually different than Digsby?
- Patrick Moorhead
Awesome! I had stopped using Twhirl but it might be time to try it out again.
- Martha
good ol' loic. :P i dont like twhirl with FF (nothing to do with the program, just prefer the webpage) but that's handy.
- Terry O'Fee
cool! sorry for reply late & thank you for following me on twitter.i'll try to continually tweet valuable info. for you. have a nice day! regards,

Does anyone have it yet. I heard monday but I saw somewhere that someone already had the new twhirl.

Maybe someone here has some input for the startup/dissappearing problem many people have with twhirl. Go to this site and see if you can help us: http://getsatisfaction.com/seesmic...

I still can't abide by the FriendFeed window in twhirl. It almost gives me a head ache for some reason. Too much info/text on one window perhaps. Not sure what it is exactly. But definitely digging the ping.fm integration and the new seesmic stuff. Also, the big "Exit Twhirl" button on the Accounts dialog, placed right where one would normally find the "OK/Cancel" buttons to close the dialog, has bitten me almost every time I've been to the Accounts dialog.
- Craig Eddy
Amazing, but on a 15' screen, it implies to have 3 Twhirl windows over the web browser. Not very convenient, especially for FF :(
- Jérôme Flipo
Everything I have ever written on Friendfeed has been from Twhirl. Baffles me why some would prefer the site. New Twhirl features look killer, but I'd be using it anyway because of the Friendfeed integration.

I wonder if the two biggiest bugs are fixed. 1, that you can only see a few recent tweets everytime you restart Twhirl & and if you click on someone who has their profile on private, then it prompts you to log in again.

Best part: you could see any kind of app on this, it's not sharing a closed application market with a cell phone (like the iPod touch and the iPhone), so you won't have someone denying an app if it isn't in the best interest of the company or wireless provider.
- Shawn Farner
Looks very tempting. I've got a port of android running on my N800 which works pretty well, apart from the on-screen keyboard which is so buggy it's unusable (not sure if that's just because of the port). Fingers cross for a sub £200 price in the UK.

They're created by water soaking through limestone fractures in the surface, Zee....a looooong time ago. http://www.blueholes.org has good information on them.
- Candace

- Victor Ryden
Here's the Wiki on the second pic, the Great Blue Hole of Belize, The hole is circular in shape, over 1,000 feet across and 400 feet deep. It was formed as a limestone cave system during the last ice age when sea levels were much lower. As the ocean began to rise again the caves flooded, and the roof collapsed. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki...

i'm glad people seem to agree on the wonder of holes, of all shapes & sizes.

The one on the left above is the "Glory Hole" at Lake Hennessey (Lake Berryessa) in Napa... that thing is really amazing, but it rarely looks like that! Right now, it's a tower sticking up 20' above the water surface because the lake is so low...

Well, I could say they're just skinning Webkit and adding some more on top. Just like Avant 'extended' the IE engine. I don't see how this could be a big deal.
- Yuvi
I kept hearing about a gBrowser from AlbinoBlackSheep.com
- Outsanity
Please, please, not ANOTHER browser to test sites against :( OK, it's Webkit, but that V8 is damn new :( OMG
- Claudio Cicali ♋
Yuvi - How could it NOT be a big deal? This is Google we're talking about here.
- Steve Isaacs
@Steve - in the same way Picasa isn't? I mean, if it were a brand new rendering engine, from the ground up, I'll fight to be the first to say WOW. Webkit derivative? Meh.
- Yuvi
By itself perhaps not going to add drmatically to what is already in the market, but imagine if Google puts not only Gears and Webkit, but also plugs into the browser some/most of its other online tools such as text editors, calendars, reader, translator, etc. All in one - all open source. Wouldnt that be cool?
- Hayk H.
IMHO, Chrome will have to be sufficiently different and better than IE, FF, and whatever else to gain traction. Otherwise, why would any mainstream user bother to change?
- Mark Dykeman
If google did't really and did it well then say bye to Microsoft
- Ahmed Ramy Zaky
from twhirl
@Ahmed - Absolutely! If we get a better Browser than IE Microsoft is doomed! </sarcasm>
- Yuvi
Until large corporations dump Windows, Office and software en masse, Microsoft isn't going anywhere, regardless of how good or useful Chrome is. Why? Because cloud computing puts too much stuff outside of the corporation's firewall and direct control. It's just against the grain of the culture. Let me put this another way: how much of Google's staggering array and collection of documents, generated by Google for Google, are really out in the cloud? I'm willing to bet that an awful lot of it isn't.
- Mark Dykeman
Knol, Chrome. Are these signs of Google losing its 'authenticity' touch, becoming a follower (imitator) rather than a leader?
- Yung-Hui Lim
Mark, you are right. Google is not cut to make corporate scale apps. It does fun stuff, free stuff. One of the top Googlers - forgot his name - who left Microsoft for Google and spent there a year, went back to Microsoft . In his blog he told how there are probs in quality and looks and style are given more thought and attention than reliability and functionality. But if Google puts a huge amount of those "useless" apps under one roof and makes a good promo, maybe Chrome will gain some ground. only some.
- Hayk H.
I'm not all that impressed yet but I'm reserving all of my incredibly influential opinions until I mess with it myself.
- Akiva Moskovitz
I will say that Chrome is an interesting development, if only because it gives us some ideas at what Google's management team is thinking about and where they want to do. I just think that there has to be a HUGE value in the new tool before most people will change. It would be neat if somehow Google could make a browser that didn't need to be installed on a PC, but I have no idea how you'd do that.
- Mark Dykeman
I guess nobody remembers 2005 when everyone fell all over themselves because Google was doing some kind of earth-shattering deal with Sun that was going to destroy Microsoft and end the world as we know it. If Google announced they were going to make ice cream, people would be all, OMG! Google ice cream! It's going to be the best ice cream ever! Even though it will only be available in...
- Karim
it's definitely a a big deal for kiosk or International travel, now I'd be be able to bypass proxies/GreatFireWalls, but on the corporate side of life...it creates a hurdle...how to block? people should be working, not bypassing the corporate filtering.

Tomorrow is chrome download day! Firefox is buggy!
- Ron
It was pretty clear that Google was up to something once they started hiring Mozilla engineers. I mean, Google didn't hire people like Ben Goodger just to write Firefox extensions.
- Paul Grav
I'm not sure it's a huge deal either. V8 seems to compare to Squirrelfish which was announced in the beginning of June. They are splitting things into separate processes which might make things more resistant when stuff crashes. I'm not sure I buy all their arguments from the comic. You might be able to see which pieces of the browser are using memory, but it will be hard to track total usage. I don't understand why they can't launch mac and linux at the same time to grab the momentum.
- Charles
www.google.com/chrome remains dark at this time.
- Robert Linthicum
@Robert, Google loves that strategy of building suspense. They always "leak" some information or let the online community buzz for some time - spinning all kinds of stories before launching their products. This mystical air and suspense building has to do with human psychology and it pays off well in all industries and especially when coming up with new products or services! Google always fully exploits this!
- Hayk H.
If this means we can stop talking about Palin and about the iPhone I'm all for it!

from twhirl
The browser itself doesn't excite me. It seems ok, and when it is eventually released on the Mac, I'll certainly give it a try. What does excite me though, is the prospect of IE losing even more market share.
- Paul Grav
I installed the IE beta today. It is interesting and a definite improvement, but I wasn't blown away by it. Fortunately, it locked up, and I had to remove it.
- Michael Fidler
I was just looking at a couple of large multi touch monitors. If this is where monitors are going, the browser that works best in that environment will have a leg up on their competition. Side Note: I was just wondering if you are still thinking about doing a follow piece with the brilliant storytelling photographer(can't remember his name), it was mesmerizing!
- Michael Fidler
Webapps that can launch "in their own streamlined window." Could this include AIR-like Twitter tools? Will Google Docs start to feel more like a real alternative to MS Office for non-power users?
- Kevin Sablan
I'm wondering if this means that, once released on the Mac, Chrome will not be the sort of browser that chokes when the Flash player crashes.
- Paul Grav
Wouldn't a browser also close-the-loop for Google in terms of browsing behavior metrics if they're able to get a representative market share?
- Jim McCusker
I like it. Even if it is Webkit with something on top, at least I can just install it and use it. Seems extremely fast so far.
- ComicList
It's fast, but it wouldn't cooperate when I tried to post to my Myspace blog. But then again, it is a beta.
- ComicList
I'm guessing Google meant to release this tomorrow. I'd never heard of a modern tech company announcing a significant product via snail mail, but my guess is that if Phillip was in the USA instead of Germany he wouldn't have gotten the scoop on the rest of the tech world, as his copy of McCloud's comic would be waiting until after Labor Day like everyone else.
- Kevin Fox
Kevin, that's an interesting, and likely take. On the flip side, wouldn't we have heard from other tech news sources who said they knew but were waiting until Tuesday? Given I haven't heard that, I have to assume the leak/scoop to Google Blogoscoped was intentional.
- Louis Gray
"We're releasing this beta for Windows to start the broader discussion and hear from you as quickly as possible. We're hard at work building versions for Mac and Linux too"
- Benjamin Golub
Roger, no embargo was broken by Philipp. He just got a comic book through the post and posted about it.
- Tony Ruscoe
Yay! "We will be launching the beta version of Google Chrome tomorrow in more than 100 countries.", "So check in again tomorrow to try Google Chrome for yourself. We'll post an update here as soon as it's ready."
- Majento
Sigh. Mac and Linux go last again. Quasi-fail.
- Louis Gray
i wonder if it will rival the awesomeness i have in flock.
- Admiral Anika
Quasi-fail, Louis? Try COMPLETE fail. Consider that they're using WebKit as the base - and there are plenty of Mac engineers at Google. Nothing would have pushed Safari 4.0 out the door (in beta or final stages) quicker than a Mac version of Chrome (interesting choice of brand, considering how heavily it's associated with Mozilla's XUL).
- l0ckergn0me
I don't think its a complete fail to be Windows-only at launch: their main target is presumably IE, by (eventually) bundling Chrome into the Google Pack that is pre-installed on lots of PCs. IEs 70% browser market share is still large enough to be very threatening to Google, as the Microsoft anti-trust prohibitions expire over the next few years.
- DGentry
... by the dawn's early light... what so proudly we hailed... at the twighlight's last gleaming. Basement of hate. This is a picture of the Berlin Wall and the garage wall underneath the building that held the Nazi headquarters. When you visit this site you can feel the hate. It's something I can't describe. The pictures on the wall and stories show how hate built.
The history that took place on this site is stunning. Something I've always wanted to visit to understand more. The hate built starting with everyday words by everyday people, grew into little stupid laws that codified that hate, then moved to bigger actions. Only time to stop it? When it's simple words. Something I need to be reminded. Who says words don't matter? Not these walls.
- Robert Scoble
Berlin is a very sobering place to visit. So much to see but so little of it is due to a happy past.
- CJPhoto
I can't like this. Not even for bookmarking. What angers me is that people forget this lesson of history, and atrocities are repeated every day.
- Mo Kargas
Oh wow, Robert. Thank you SO much for sharing this, and your words. It blew me away... I love technology

Mo: I understand that. There's no love in this building, that's for sure. By the way, this is my first test of FriendFeed's new photo upload. Worked great! Love how the photo shows up on my blog's sidebar too http://scobleizer.com

But I rather upload the photo to Flickr to keep it in my photo library and let Flickr update FriendFeed, FaceBook, etc. Not sure I see the benefit of uploading the photo to FriendFeed.
- Julio F ~ @SocialJulio
Robert. You are right about the 'little stupid laws'. That is why the versions currently being passed in Italy against the Roma are so worrying.
- mattpovey
There's a lot of really emotionally powerful stuff like this in Germany. If you're travelling about a bit, make sure you take the chance to go to Dachau, near Munich, too.
- Mark Ng
Mark, indeed. Dachau is the one that really brought it home for me. The stark and sterile nature of the whole place really demonstrated how much of a systematic process this was. I was there in winter and I stood in the parade ground for about half an hour just to try and get a glimpse of what it was like. I couldn't hack it. Knowing that hundreds of people stood there for hours on end chilled me more than the conditions...
- Johnny Worthington
Can I also note that Germany is a great place with wonderful poeple... It is one of my favourite countries. Beer Halls = All sorts of drunken win. While there is no relation to this topic, I think it is not said enough :)
- Johnny Worthington
My mom grew up in Germany, so I agree.
- Robert Scoble
We still have chips of the wall from that exact spot, hacked by my 6-yr-old daughter with a claw hammer one weekend after the Wall fell open.

A good friend of mine visited some of the Nazi places, and he described feeling sick at his stomach as soon as he was getting close to them. I agree with Gregory, the "energy" is real, it just doesn't have mass or volume so it is harder to quantify.
- Charlene Kingston
Completely agree... when I visited Auschwitz in Poland (years ago), it was not the horrific pictures, nor the "information" I had about the place but this gut feeling that overwhelms you once you set foot on those premises... Writing this I can still feel it.
- Philippe Borremans
I was in Berlin in Feb and saw the Topography of Terror. There is a bad vibe there. However I think this (from a trip in Poland was worse and much more disturbing).http://inao.blogspot.com/2006... and the fact that the Nazis then sold the hair.http://inao.blogspot.com/2006...
- Ina
No need to go to Munich for Dachau; there's Sachsenhausen right outside Berlin. Before the Ostblock fell, it was an even more interesting exhibit for some slight revisionism to fit the communist POV. It's since been 'fixed'. You get a pretty good (authentic, real) vibe there like at Dachau or any of the others more complete/preserved camps, imo.
- abacab
You're probably not going to able to see it on this trip but the Kehlsteinhaus (Hitler's retareat in the German Alps) is a must-see
- Steven Cains
here are my photos from dachau - http://flickr.com/photos... - it's near munich and worth the trip - as you walk down the long road to inside the compound, you can feel the screams - i thought i wouldn't be emotional there, but i was. there were a lot of people sitting on the benches crying

JPG Magazine announced their next issue themes earlier today. I submitted this photo for the upcoming "Faith" theme. It's a photo I took of Rabbi Josef Langer conducting a Chanukah ceremony in Union Square. There are 40 days left for you to contribute your own "faith" photos for consideration as well as their other two themes "Nighttime" and "Delectable."

What is the belief system behind the great photo -- the same as Ari Fleischer's?
- Sean McBride
Great job, Thomas. Enver! Stirring up the Doctor's Plot again?

Ok - the belief system = Chabad-Lubavitch -- pro Likud, pro Benjamin Netanyahu, pro Joseph Lieberman, pro neoconservatives, pro Christian ZIonism, pro Bush 43, pro Iraq War, pro Iran War, pro Greater Israel, pro West Bank settlements, etc. (Please correct me if I am wrong.) And, yes, Ari Fleischer, Bush 43's former press secretary, is a member. Fleischer is now a key player in Sheldon Adelson's Freedom's Watch.

One of the commenters at weather underground said something apt this morning: Fay is apparently going to become a permanent feature of Florida, like Jupiter's Red Spot.
It's a beautiful morning here in Pensacola, but Fay will be along shortly as she continues her walking tour of the Sunshine State ... ;-)
