I switched over to reading mostly a 'subgroup' ("Favorites") on FF, and was missing the serendipity of new voices. One way I've remedied that is to do searches on some of my favorite things ("a cappella", "lindy hop", etc.) and see who and what comes up.
Often I'll also leave comments or likes, too, and I have no doubt this both surprises and pleases many of the folks who don't tend to get a lot of traffic to their FFF :)

This approach makes sense Adam. It's hard to follow 1,000 people actively. Pick a smaller group, add keyword-based entries. It's how I'm tracking the Enterprise 2.0 space - a few people + tweets and bookmarks tagged e2.0.
