"Are you sick of UK newspapers and (my fellow) politicians beating up on gaming? So am I. The truth is, UK gamers need their own pressure group. I want to help you start one up. I don't know how it should work yet but please register your interest if you agree that gamers need their voice hear in the corridors of power. And if you have any ideas, please post them to the wall." - Kol Tregaskes

"In 2008, the median age for Facebook was 26. Today, it's 33, a good seven years older. An interesting turn of events for a site once exclusive to college students. So where are students hanging out now? As it turns out, Gen Y likes Twitter...Well, maybe not, but they are using it" - Mitchell McKenna from Bookmarklet

Does anyone know how to get upload full-size pics into Facebook via the Android app instead of the itty bitty ones? No obvious setting I can find. Thanks! (UPDATE: FIXED)
08Meadow001[1].jpg
"The largest dimension should be at most 604 pixels (the largest display size Facebook supports)" -- http://wiki.developers.facebook.com/index... You can use Pixelpipe to upload to both SmugMug, etc. (for the original) and Facebook at the same time. - Tracy
What I meant was pics that appear as full-size on Facebook instead of looking like thumbnails. Does that make sense? For some reason although my Droid is taking 5MP pics they're getting scaled down to 300px or something when uploaded to Facebook - LANjackal from IM
PROBLEM SOLVED: The answer to this is to simply take the pictures directly in the Android 2.0 camera and upload to Facebook from there. Do NOT use the Facebook for Android app itself. - LANjackal

I still can't get FF and FB to work together. FF can't import my FB status updates, and I can't get FF posts to appear on my FB wall like real posts, complete with images.

Startup School: Paul Buchheit Wings It, Tells Us What He’s Learned
"FriendFeed Co-Founder, Paul Buchheit has taken the stage at Startup School at UC Berkeley. Buchheit is talking about what he’s learned so far as an entrepreneur, from creating Gmail to founding FriendFeed. Buchheit made some interesting points from his career at Intel, Google, FriendFeed and now Facebook. He’s also winging his presentation to see how it goes (and he’s doing a good job at it)... - sofarsoShawn from Bookmarklet
...Buchheit talked about his past at Google, where he is of course known as being the creator of Gmail, as well as Intel. At Intel, Buchheit learned that he didn’t enjoy working at large companies. People often ask what’s the formula to startup success. Buchheit answered with that Google had a formula for making successful products that everyone had to follow. Buchheit also mentioned... more... - sofarsoShawn

StatShot: Facebook Share of U.S. Social Networking Market Climbs to Nearly 60%
"Facebook accounted for nearly 60 percent of all U.S. visits to a social network in September, nearly tripling over the same month last year, according to the latest stats from web traffic intelligence company Hitwise. By comparison, MySpace, which took the No. 2 slot, saw U.S. visits to the site plunge to 30.3 percent from 66.8 percent in September of 2008. Meanwhile Twitter’s percentage of visitors mushroomed to 1.84 percent last month from .15 percent in the same period the year before — a surge of 1170 percent." - LANjackal from Bookmarklet

"A little over six months ago, we performed a comparison of the top users on Facebook and Twitter and the number of fans and followers on each. Six months later, the top Twitter users have experienced a 500 percent growth in their follower base whereas Facebook fans have grown by approximately 200 percent. Facebook however has a much greater overlap, a continuing trend that we saw a few months ago. Below, are charts of the top 50 users on each site and the number of followers or fans on the competing site. Twitter Is Catching Up To Facebook The most dramatic difference between the numbers from only six months ago is that Twitter’s top users almost have as many followers as Facebook’s top pages. Facebook’s top pages were previously 5 times as large as the top Twitter users, but now that number has decreased significantly. What we can’t derive from this data is the percentage of followers or fans that actually read the content published by each user. So is Twitter really worth close to $1 BILLION DOLLARS? (insert Dr. Evil Impression) - sofarsoShawn
1. The comparison is interesting but I think that one must remember that the problem on Twitter is that it's only text based, whereas Facebook, like FriendFeed has images, which makes stuff much easier to follow. - See-ming Lee 李思明 SML
2. What I would like to see is when I've finally convinced enough people to use FriendFeed, and this being an unwalled garden, I think that in time it would then be really interesting to compare FB vs Tw vs FF. - See-ming Lee 李思明 SML
I agree, it's an apples (walled) and oranges (unwalled) comparison & thereby no real quantifiable equivalency ratio. Further it's been researched that a large percentage of Tweets are SPAM & more SPAM and. & yes no one doubts that Twitter has exploded, so has Facebook, however they both fill different niches. - sofarsoShawn
Twitter has way too much spam. I agree. Do you have the source / research? I am always interested in figures. - See-ming Lee 李思明 SML
Sysomos did a fairly thorough researched report on it in early august vs the shoddy peer analytics one later that month that was hugely in accurate in it's method. The Sysomos found 5% of tweeters make up 75% of all tweets & 24% of all accounts are bots and I'd say spammers cuz they come from sources like digg, twittertips, marketers though they don't define them as such. Spam is a more... more... - sofarsoShawn
Here's the report: "Twitter Bots Post 24 Percent of the Tweets While only 5 percent of the users make up 75 percent of the tweets" http://news.softpedia.com/news... the peer analytics one, you'll have to Google. Also I wonder what category goes in those annoying bumper stick quotation tweets, that are ubiquitous now, say something ORIGINAL. - sofarsoShawn
@sofarsoShawn Thanks for the #data! - See-ming Lee 李思明 SML
The question is, is the # of followers a meaningful metric that we should pay attention to? IMO, twitter is not really catching up to facebook, because metrics like usage levels (time spent on site, pageviews) etc are more meaningful here... Twitter is in no position to catch up to FB in those ones, at least not anytime soon... - Onur Kabadayi

Facebook, you are pissing me off. My profile has been hosed for the last day or so. This afternoon, I've put in my THIRD request to have it fixed. WHY THE FUCK HAVEN'T YOU DONE IT, YET?!?!?!?
I'm considering nuking my profile and starting all over again. I'll have to take screen shots of my friends before doing so. SUCH...A...:PAIN!!!!! If I don't hear from them in the next day or so, I may have to do this. Which means I'll have to get a new custom URL, reset all of my apps, and send out about 300 Friend Requests that people may may or may not reply to. "History is littered with good ideas that didn’t work out because they were ahead of their time. Tablet PCs didn’t work out a decade ago, but with technology advances, they’re poised to make a comeback. Microsoft’s local information web site Sidewalk.com was a bust in 1997, but now sites like Yelp and Google Maps offer local information that many people couldn’t fathom living without. Virtual currency sites like Beenz and Flooz never took off, but the idea is making a comeback on social networks." - Kol Tregaskes from Bookmarklet
""This week we saw the release of the highly anticipated Google Wave. Wave is an innovative communications platform that combines asynchronous communication (like email) with real-time communication (like chat), an application platform, and discovery tools. It’s been touted as both an email killer and a Facebook killer. In short, there’s a lot of hype, and while Wave may prove to be a huge success, I think one thing it potentially represents is a great opportunity for Facebook. - Kol Tregaskes
Well it might make me use Facebook is it used the Wave protocol. ;-) - Kol Tregaskes
*yawn* This is one of Mashable's "what if" articles that really have no connection to reality. The hardcore geek crowd of Google Wave is ready for this. The Facebook crowd likes things simple, and FB's having a hard enough time maintaining simple chat as is. - LANjackal
