Neat! Still a bit bare-bones (e.g. no direct support for adding specific online profiles as in FF, though you can add arbitrary links). Also hope they'll expose some of the data they collect (e.g. the OpenID mappings) in a more machine readable format. Didn't know about MicroID [http://microid.org/] -- looks like a great idea!

Just finished my modest literature list. Have seen a mention somewhere of API but haven't looked into it.

You can also attach several OpenIDs to one ClaimID.
- Jan Aerts
yeah, seems quite bare-bones, but at the same time streamlined. If only one could configure one's claimID-provided OpenID URL as delegated. But it wouldn't be in claimID's interest I suppose to have users use them only as a 'proxy' for some other OpenID provider.

Also, if they could have something like the 'verified' flag for publications (verification coming from a future CrossReg contributor ID service, see related FF discussion here: http://friendfeed.com/e...), we'd really have something going! I mean, Jan could easily boost his profile by claiming authorship on papers from the other Jan Aerts's. Dunno, maybe the MicroID thing could be used to streamline this?

Mummi: I was thinking the same thing about microID and publications. But think that it's technically impossible. And I would *never* claim authorship on papers from another Jan Aerts :-) (Although there _is_ one who also work on chicken genetics)

Claim ID?! I'm on there. http://claimid.com/maxine. I always use this when commenting on Blogger blogs, though Google supports it, it does not really like it all that much compared with commenting with a Google ID. But tell me, what's the advantage to me? Claim ID does not aggregate or track my comments on a range of blogs, and that's what I'd like - to track the conversations I've participated in, in one place. Nobody seems to do that yet - the services I've heard of/tried, eg cocomment and the other one with a similar name, don't work well enough.

Jan - OK, let's say for the moment that we believe you're a Good Guy (!). What do we (or potential future employers) know about who's who in chicken genetics, or even science general? I'm really playing the devil's advocate here of course, but seriously this can be a major problem for people with common names in say China or India (see nice piece in Nature here: http://www.nature.com/news...).

Needs a screencast (such a no-brainer--show me in two minutes why I would want to use this service).
- Hope Leman
Mummi - Don't have to play devil's advocate: ClaimID is not the end of all our identity woes. It's just the idea of the microID (and firefox button!) that's different here compared to say OpenID. At least you can digitally sign your own websites.
- Jan Aerts
Maxine - You can always push the "post to claimID" button for this post. At least the post now appears in my comments list on claimid.com/jandot. Of course it is (a) not signed, and (b) not the comment alone but the complete post. So part of the functionality is there, unfortunately not all.
- Jan Aerts
I actually contacted the ClaimID guys to ask what's in store for the future. They let me know that it basically runs on its own at the moment and they're trying to finish their graduates so obviously limited time now. However they do say they're particularly interested in the problem that we're facing.
- Jan Aerts
Where is that "post to claimID" button, Jan? And thanks for the update on ClaimID.
- Maxine
Small correction to my comment above: seems that you CAN set your claimID OpenID as delegated after all. After I registered via my myopenid.com identity the first time, now my public page http://claimid.com/mummi has the openid.delegate stuff in the HTML header. Now I can use http://claimid.com/mummi but have the authentication delegated to http://mummi.myopenid.com/. Nice
