So, my whole problem with this article (and others I've seen like it) is the assumption that there can only be one or the other, that there can only be one female judge. It's like they can't imagine both women on the same program.

Yeah, that bothers me, though I think at least some of that is due to she and Shakira occupying the same genre (broadly.) I could see them bringing in other women in place of Adam, Blake, Cee Lo, for instance.

If it were just the genre issue, I wouldn't be as irritated, but I never hear people suggest changing out one of the guys for a woman.

I was just reading about how stand-up comedy, even these days, tends to be almost all male /because/ the lower rungs of the comedy clubs intentionally only book one or two women a night, and only one for each half of the night.

Yeah, that's why it gets me too. Personally, I'd love them to dump Blake for one of the multitude of female contemporary country stars out there right now. I like him alright, but that genre has a tradition of really strong women, and I feel like we're missing out on that right now.

I thought the original agreement was that she and CeeLo were only taking 1 season away from the show, and that they'd both be back next season.

I'm just listening to the show (not watching), so I'm not sure who's really done what. Whoever sang Broken Wing earlier was pretty good, but that's about all I've heard that's been really impressive tonight, so far

Truth. I love this song (and really, really love Bela Fleck's cover of it), so I'm really picky about other people covering it; but she's nailing it.

All of these singers that sound like they're singing with a speech impediment ('they shay' instead of 'they say', etc.) really annoy me for some reason. The judges always seem to love them, though. I'm not saying she doesn't have a nice voice, but the way she pronounces her words really gets on my nerves. I realize that's shallow.
