A.J. was *so* close to being done with his imaging project, but then at the eleventh hour, realized the default OS install wasn't compatible with the volume license. Much gnashing of teeth ensued.
A.J. is home safe and sound from a great Christmas trip, only to have to dig through a foot or so of wet, heavy snow just to get the car off the highway.
Merry Christmas, everyone! I hope you have a safe, fun, special holiday. :).
I've built a @FOGProject server, constructed a 20-node mini-LAN, created an XPSP3 base image, and provisioned 15 workstations. #nerdvanna
: The NWS is really on their game today --> "THIS STORM SYSTEM IS SO COMPLEX THAT WILL BE THREEBOUTS OF PRECIPITATION WITH THIS EVENT." <-- Do say.
: Definition of a geek holiday party -- Using sidewall cutters to open the spice cake sent from the ISP, then cutting and serving said cake with a case blank. We'll roast some chestnuts on the server rack this afternoon. Happy solstice, everyone!
A.J. finally got Snort running on an Ubuntu 9.10 VM. Now, to figure out how to _use_ it...
: Alden said, "Hey dad, the big moon is like snow in the night."
A.J. has 32 tabs open in _one_ window of Chrome (with three total windows). Take that, interwebs.
: Beer update -- The nutbrown (my 1st AG) has aged and mellowed into a pretty damn fine drink (and is in my glass right now); The strawberry-blonde is getting better, but needs a little more time in the keg; The cider is in the keg two weeks now, and I think we'll crack it for real around New Year's; The "H2IK December Ale" that Jason and Andrew...
: The Boy -- "What was that?" // The Wife -- "What was what?" // The Boy -- "It sounded like a bald eagle! ... And it was a _fart_!"
A.J. dreamt that Dale Thomas and Kris Day took me into the Chequamegon Nat. Forest behind my grandmother's cabin to teach me how to hunt ala slow-stalking but we got interrupted by a giant feral dog and huge bear having an epic battle in the woods that lasted 'till sundown.
A.J. is gonna get his wife a base cannon for her comp for xmas.

Building a full-on test lab network. #nerdvana
Building a bootable, live linux pen drive seems like soooo much less work than replacing a borked CD-ROM. Narry a screwdriver in sight.
@claudiabroman Interesting; do you tend to go personal on FB and biz on Twitter?
@john3932 Thanks for the nod, John! It's hard for me to pick a favorite, but I'm kinda digging "Slippers" this morning: http://ajvanbeest.com/writing...
@mark2a That's great to hear. Is there a place we can check out the plan?
How do you manage you FB + Twitter (+etc!) accounts? Cross-posting, diferent personas, or something else?
Boy, do we have the wood stove crankin' tonight! Currently, it's -1F with -17F wind-chill, and slated to get down to -15 ambient; wc = -25!
Tryin' out the HootSuite Twitter client; thinkin' it looks pretty... ahem!... suite. (http://hootsuite.com)
A.J. is five minutes away from cutting into a hooch-soaked grilled pork steak!
A.J. has two *giant* pork steaks marinading in Long Island iced tea. :).
A.J. is making some chow for Alden's b-day party tomorrow and hopes those preschoolers are up for fresh parmesan, garlic, and chive biscuits topped with sauteed shiitakes, wild leeks, and prosciutto in sweet cream stout reduction.
: On the nth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me, <sqrt>-i</sqrt>.
